Summary The growth of Avena coleoptile segments during expansion for 24 hours either in the presence or absence of indole acetic acid is accompanied by an actual decrease in their content of soluble protein. Gel electrophoresis of coleoptile segments which had been allowed to expand, either in the presence or absence of IAA, reveals no specific protein which was not already present in unexpanded segments.
