On the influence of infrastructure availability on companies decisions toward modal shift and relocation of falicities

PurposeReduced availability of transport infrastructure affects highly dependent global supply chains (SCs), leading to modal shifts in the short term. Since relocation decisions of facilities may result in the long term, this paper evaluates companies’ business decisions in reaction to availability reductions of inland waterway transport (IWT). MethodologyA transport model evaluates the impact of reduced infrastructure availability through heuristic optimization based on the Traveling Purchaser Problem. The resulting increase in operational costs is used to assess the probability of relocating facilities based on a Facility Location Problem (FLP) which enables deriving the benefit from infrastructure conditions. FindingsThe study identifies critical thresholds for infrastructure availability that affect companies’ relocation decisions regarding the maintenance of public infrastructure. The case study exhibits actual critical infrastructure assets. Practical implicationsInsights into the decisive consequences of companies’ decisions are given, and awareness of the relevance of infrastructure investments on local areas’ attractiveness is raised. The results imply considering public infrastructure investments in maintenance for private business locations. OriginalityThe paper highlights a new way to sustain local industries and connects short-term agility and long-term resilience with companies’ decisions and the exogenous factor infrastructure availability. The applied use case focuses on the barely studied waterway infrastructure that gains importance in light of sustainability and climate change.

The Economic Agglomeration Effects of the Industrial and Business Sectors in Pengerang Johor, Malaysia from a Spatial Perspective

The economic agglomeration effects of the industrial and business sectors refer to the positive externalities that result from the concentration of firms in a specific geographic area. These effects can take different forms, including increased productivity, better innovation, and lower firm costs. Additionally, the concentration of businesses and industries in one area can result in knowledge spillovers, where firms can benefit from the expertise and knowledge of other firms in the same field. This study aims to provide spatial visualisation of the industrial area with GIS technology within the Pengerang District. Data from the Pengerang City Council and Companies Commission of Malaysia was utilised to conduct a Getis-Ord Gi* (Hot Spot) analysis to determine the agglomeration pattern of industrial and business activities in the study area. This study identifies Bandar Penawar and Pengerang as the areas with the highest concentration of industrial and business activities. The factors or effects of the economic agglomeration in the study area include the concentration of industrial and business activities, the presence of supporting industries and services, the availability of transportation infrastructure, and the availability of skilled labour. The study also identifies the positive spillover effects of economic agglomeration, such as increased productivity, knowledge spillovers, and innovation. The analysis results can guide future strategic planning in the industrial and business sectors in Pengerang District.

ВЛИЯНИЕ ДЕЛОВОГО ТУРИЗМА НА ЭКОНОМИКУ ГОРОДОВ И СТРАН

The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the impact of business tourism on the economy of cities and countries. The author conducted a literature review on the definition of business tourism, based on which it was concluded that business tourism is a travel undertaken for the purpose of participation in business events. The main factors influencing the development of international business tourism have been identified. The statistical data reflecting general trends in the development of the global business tourism industry has been analyzed, which showed that this sphere is actively developing and has a significant economic potential. It was determined that for the last three years the first seven positions in the rating are held by China, USA, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, France, Italy. As a result of the correlation analysis of the relationship between business travel expenditures and GDP of the leading countries in the business tourism industry for 2020–2022, it was concluded that the development of business tourism is an important factor in stimulating economic growth and attracting investment. The positive correlation between business travel expenditure and GDP indicates that an increase in business tourism contributes to economic growth. This is explained by the fact that business travel promotes business development, stimulates economic activity and attracts investment. Based on the study of global trends in the development of business tourism, it was proposed to focus on interregional business tourism for the development of this industry in Russia by creating special programs and packages for interregional business travel, supporting and developing business centers and conference halls in different regions, improving the quality and availability of transport infrastructure, promoting domestic business tourism through media and marketing campaigns, and simplifying the procedure for obtaining visas and permits for foreign business travelers, Given the large territorial size of the country and the presence of various business centers in different regions, the development of interregional business tourism will expand the geography of travel and attract more representatives of the business community.

Problems of northern import in the regions of Siberia and ways to solve them

The geographical boundaries of the territory of Siberia and the reference zones of the Arctic development have been clarified. The results of the analysis of natural resources and mineral deposits are presented. In particular, the Yamalo-Nenets zone: gas -66%, oil and condensate - 20% of the all–Russian reserves; Taimyro-Turukhanskaya: coal-77.6, nickel- 71%; North Yakut: antimony mining 100%, diamonds 98%, tin 40%. The development of their and other minerals is relevant in solving the problems of the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Their implementation is largely due to the availability of transport infrastructure in the studied regions and the effectiveness of the organization of Northern delivery. The transport infrastructure is represented by all types of transport. It is most developed in the Yamalo-Nenets zone and less in the North Yakut zone. Review of Urban Transportation in India

Cities play a vital role in promoting economic growth and prosperity. The development of cities largely depends upon their physical, social, and institutional infrastructure. In this context, the importance of intraurban transportation is paramount. This article provides an overview of urban transport issues in India. Rather than covering every aspect of urban transportation, it primarily focuses on those areas that are important from a policy point of view. The article first reviews the trends of vehicular growth and availability of transport infrastructure in Indian cities. This is followed by a discussion on the nature and magnitude of urban transport problems such as congestion, pollution, and road accidents. Building on this background, the article proposes policy measures to improve urban transportation in India.Indian cities cannot afford to cater only to private cars and two-wheelers and there has to be a general recognition that policy should be designed in such a way that it reduces the need to travel by personalized modes and boosts public transport system. This requires both an increase in quantity as well as quality of public transport and effective use of demand as well as supply-side management measures. At the same time, people should be encouraged to walk and cycle and government should support investments that make cycling and walking safer.

Evaluation of the effect of JSC RZD transportation infrastructure availability on the risks of losses in the process of transportation

Aim. The availability of transportation infrastructure facilities affects the quality of the transportation services provided by JSC RZD. At the same time, this effect may significantly differ depending on the operating conditions of the transportation infrastructure or a specific railway line and can cause various degrees of risk of damage to the transportation process. Such risks are defined as risks of train-hour losses due to transportation infrastructure failures. Planning dependability management activities under conditions of scarce resources requires targeted identification of the transportation infrastructure facilities whose availability most significantly affects the magnitude of the risks of damage to the transportation process. The aim of the paper is to develop a method for evaluating daily availability and identifying its correlation with the risk of train-hour losses. Methods. The authors used the methods of risk management, probability theory and mathematical statistics, correlation and regression analysis. Results. The paper suggests representing the daily availability indicator of JSC RZD’s transportation infrastructure facilities as a two-parameter gamma distribution and describing its effect on the risks of the transportation process with a regression model. Conclusions. The paper’s findings can be used as part of transportation infrastructure dependability planning and targeted allocation of resources, as well as for substantiating the dependability indicator when evaluating the practical capacity of railway lines and utilization ratio and in a number of other operational tasks.

A Delphi approach to evaluating the success factors for the application of smart mobility systems in smart cities: a construction industry perspective

This study evaluates the critical success factors for smart mobility systems (SM) and assesses its current application level for smart city development using Nigerian as a case study. This study is based on a mixed-method approach (Delphi and quantitative survey). The study revealed seven critical success factors of smart mobility. Furthermore, the findings of this study revealed that factors like sustainable, innovative and safe transportation system, availability of ICT infrastructure, local accessibility of transportation infrastructure, availability of transportation infrastructure (bike, cycling, pedestrian mobility facilities), are the most significant smart mobility success factors. Also, a good consensus was achieved for all the success factors. The Mann Whitney test from the final Delphi result revealed no significant difference in the responses of the two groups of experts. Assessing the level of application of the smart mobility success factors revealed an abysmal application level according to the expert's opinion. This study contributes to the body of knowledge as it reveals the SM success factors that should be considered to achieve a sustainable smart mobility system in a city. The findings of this study will assist cities worldwide in developing smart mobility systems and further improve their competitive advantage. The study concludes that the evaluated success factors are significant in smart mobility systems development and application, based on expert's opinion. However, its level of adoption and application is still low in Nigeria. Therefore, it is recommended that the government and policy decision-makers in urban transportation infrastructure development should use the results from this study, as a scorecard to know lagging areas and factors that need significant improvement and application to achieve a smart mobility system.

EFEKTIFITAS PEMBUATAN KOMPOS MENGGUNAKAN AMPAS TAHU DENGAN MEDIA TAKAKURA

Ternate City is experiencing solid waste management problems, namely the problem of transporting waste, based on data from the environmental service in 2019, the availability of transportation infrastructure is only able to transport 100 tons of garbage per day. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of composting using tofu dregs with Takakura media. This research method is an experimental research type using a post-control design approach. The control variable was composting without Takakura media, while the treatment variable was composting with Takakura media. The aim is to compare the effectiveness of tofu dregs in composting. measurement results for 20 days for tofu dregs at a temperature of 32°C, a pH of 7.5 and a humidity of 60%. From the results of the study, it was found that the quality of the compost had met the standards based on SNI 2803:2010 and for the control, namely 31°C, pH 7.5 and humidity 60%. The conclusion is that the amount of compost produced for the two composts is different. Tofu pulp has a composting time of 20 days with the amount of compost as much as 5 0ns, meanwhile Control has a composting time of 20 days with the amount of compost as much as 2 ounces. It is recommended that further researchers use vegetables for composting using Takakura media because this material is very much found in households.

Economic Evaluation, Use of Renewable Energy, and Sustainable Urban Development Mamminasata Metropolitan, Indonesia

The acceleration of the development of the Metropolitan Mamminasata area has an impact on the socio-economic dynamics of the community and the use of excess energy resources. The purpose of this study was to analyze (1) economic growth and energy security work as determinants of urban development for Metropolitan Mamminasata, (2) the effect of economic growth, energy consumption, availability of transportation infrastructure, and renewable energy on the quality of the environment and the sustainability of the Metropolitan Mamminasata system, and (3) renewable energy management strategies and sustainable urban development for Metropolitan Mamminasata. An explanatory sequential approach was used. Data were obtained through observation, surveys, and documentation. The results showed that renewable energy which has the potential to used, in the Mamminasata Metropolitan urban area to support economic growth and increase urban productivity, namely water energy, wind energy, and biomass energy. Furthermore, it takes the effectiveness and efficiency of energy users toward improving environmental quality. Economic growth, energy consumption savings, the availability of transportation infrastructure, and renewable energy have a significant effect on environmental quality, with a determination coefficient of 82.3%, and the sustainability of the Metropolitan Mamminasata system, with a determination coefficient of 75.7%. Use of renewable energy in the management of urban development will require support from government policies, as well as community and business participation. This study recommends a renewable energy management strategy as an important part of supporting the sustainability of urban development in Metropolitan Mamminasata, Indonesia.

Kajian Estimasi Variabel Pemudik Lebaran di Pulau Jawa Tahun 2010 dan 2011 Dengan Survei Rumah Tangga

Homecoming, called "mudik" in bahasa, at Lebaran is a culture in Indonesia to visit the family at the hometmvn. Hence, it needs bigger transportation capacity than usual. Infrastructure planning for all transportation mode needs the prediction of travelers number, origin and destination of travelers, the utilization preference of all transportation mode, the distribution of travelers per day as the basic availability of transport infrastructure and the prediction of economic effects by the travelers to the local destination. Whereas, there was household survey at 6 big cities in Java Island i.e Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogar, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi), Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya as the origin of travelers to five provinces destination within Java Island (excluded DKI Jakarta) and outside Java Island. The result of survey analysis from 34.3 million citizen at big cities in 2010 with 6,580 household samples which consist of 22,949 respondents found that 23.9% travelers, using cars 27%, buses 40%, motorcycles 14%, trains 12%, ships 1 %, airplanes 3%, and others 3%. The peak time of travelers held on the first, second, and third day before Lebaran and the seventh day after Lebaran. Weekday trip patterns of students in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria

Data used were obtained from Obafemi Awolowo University Annual Report publication, questionnaire administration and interview on socioeconomic characteristics of off-campus resident students; travel characteristics and mobility pattern; perception on the availability of transport infrastructure as well as factors that determine the decision to reside off-campus. Results showed two main types of mobility patterns, viz: unidirectional (89.8%) and bidirectional (10.2%) movements. An average student spends between ₦31 and ₦175 (US$ 0.09 and US$ 0.48); and between 15 and 30 minutes, daily from their residence to the university. Gender, amount paid on house rent, family house ownership, and source of income were the main factors determining the choice of residential location among students. Proximity to bus stops and/or junctions, quick and easy access to motorcycles and buses, and nearness to park or garage were the most important factors that influence accommodation location choices among the off-campus resident students. The study concluded that transport infrastructure influenced the residential location decisions among off-campus resident students in the study area.

Satisfaction Level of the Blind on Urban Transportation System in Greater Jakarta

The availability of transportation infrastructure and facilities accessible for people with disability is required to provide convenience for people with disability in conducting daily activities independently. Data collection was conducted on a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with of 13 blind people as subjects of research. They are members of Indonesian Visually Impaired Union (PERTUNI). Other sources of data were field observation and secondary data of design and service standards. Transportation related to blind people on this reseacrh consisted of Urban Railway System and Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit System. Observation, FGD, and the study of design and service standards of the railway station include type of information service, ticket counter, tap card equipment, priority seats, and toilets. Observation, FGD, and the study of design and service standards of Transjakarta line includes pedestrian facilities, stairs, guiding block, type of service information, officers, convenience of Transjakarta boarding/ alighting, and TJ card. In general blind people in Greater Jakarta have not been provided with easiness and accessible urban public transport mode since universal design principle have not been totally adopted, e.g. in terms of gap between train and station platform, auditory information in the bus, gender identification of toilets, conditon of guiding blocks etc

Analysis on Transportation Infrastructure Availability to Achieve Environmental and Social Sustainability in Karawang

Sustainable infrastructure is the key to development success. At the same time, transportation infrastructure development will involve social and environmental conditions of the local surroundings. Assessment of the availability of such transport infrastructure is one of the solutions adapted from social and environmental impacts. By conducting a correlation test, the presence of transportation infrastructure and the social conditions of the environment can be identified. The results obtained show that the accessibility, the level of security, and the level of equality are correlated to social and environmental sustainability in Karawang. In terms of environment, the availability of transportation infrastructure is not directly related to the impact of environmental sustainability. The impact of the perceived environment also has no effect on the journey. Correlation results indicate that the length of travel time and congestion level do not make the perceived impact greater. The impact of the perceived environment is merely due to the high utilization of private vehicles in Karawang which subsequently leads to higher energy consumption.

Approche SIG Pour La Modélisation Du Réseau Routier Et La Mesure De L’accessibilité Aux Équipements Publics. Cas De La Ville d’Agadir

The study of road networks and accessibility to public facilities in Morocco doesn’t receive enough importance in regional planning. Most of the work carried out in the field is limited to diagnosis, relying on traditional tools of analysis and description. The goal of this article is to propose a thorough analysis of public facilities accessibility using isochronous maps, which will not only make it possible to evaluate the quality of urban transport system, but also guarantee the equity of the geographical distribution of public services. The study area is the urban commune of Agadir city on Morocco’s southwest coast. The approach used for this purpose is based on urban road network modeling, travel time calculations and geographic information software (GIS). Therefore, a Geographical Information System dedicated to Transport (GIST) was built, supplied with structured data in a geodatabase, and analyzed by using ArcGIS Network Analyst extension. The results demonstrate that Access to public facilities in the city of Agadir differs in quality according to districts and the types of services. However, the most remote marginal areas remain the most affected areas, both in terms of equipment distribution. the availability of transport infrastructure, or the quality of service in urban public transport.

PERENCANAAN OBJEK WISATA ALAM DAN TANTANGAN DALAM PENYEDIAAN INFRASTRUKTUR TRANSPORTASI

Development of the tourist attractions are the leading sectors in encouraging the growth of development in the region. Each area that has a potential tourist attraction is planed and developed as a main destination that will be offered to tourists. This study analyzes the development planning of natural attractions and challenges in providing transport infrastructure. This study was conducted in Simalungun using primary data through observation of objects and explorative analyzes. The results showed there is a natural tourist attraction waterfall Tinggi Raja with huge potential, but constrained by the availability of transportation infrastructure that is very damaged. Simalungun government has not planned construction of the necessary infrastructure in the development of attractions.

НЕМЕЦКОЕ ВЛИЯНИЕ НА КУЛЬТУРНО-ЭКОНОМИЧЕСКОЕ РАЗВИТИЕ ДОНСКОГО КРАЯ XIX - НАЧАЛА ХХ В

In the early 19th century, with the arrival of foreigners, there began the development of the Province of the Don Cossack Host. It was provided by favourable factors: vast areas of uninhabited land, low cost of land and low rent. In the second half of the 19th century the colo-nization of the Don Cossack Host became more intensive. It is the Germans, both offi cials and entrepreneurs and ordinary colonists who played an important role in this. In the article the author tries to show the degree of infl uence of the Germans on the socio-economic and cultural development of the Don Cossack Host in the 19th - early 20th century. On the basis of the scientifi c literature and archival materials, there are analyzed the activities of the Germans of different status and class: from the Ataman of the Don Cossack Host to an at-torney at law. The author describes the role played by the offi cials of the German nationality in establishing economic and cultural life in the Don lands. It is found that they were the initiators of the opening of schools, newspapers, parks, as well as educational institutions. In addition, attention is paid to the fact that the area was inhabited by German colonists engaged mainly in the agricultural or industrial entrepreneurship. They were able to develop their activities through the use of modern advanced technology, sound economic policies, the availability of transport infrastructure and sources of raw materials, as well as the initial absence of fi erce competition. The author concludes that despite their German origin, all of them considered themselves Russian subjects and made efforts for the prosperity of the region in which they found themselves due to various circumstances.

Impacts of geological store uncertainties on the design and operation of flexible CCS offshore pipeline infrastructure

Planning for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) infrastructure needs to address the impact of store uncertainties and store flow variability on infrastructure costs and availability. Key geological storage properties (pressure, temperature, depth and permeability) can affect injectivity and lead to variations in CO2 flow, which feed back into the pipeline transportation system. In previous storage models, the interface between the reservoir performance and the transportation infrastructure is unclear and the models are unable to provide details for flow and pressure management within a transportation network in response to changes in the operation of storage sites. Variation in storage demand due to daily and seasonal variations of fossil fuels uses and by extension CO2 flow is also likely to influence transportation infrastructure availability and the capacity to deliver. This work evaluates, at the level of infrastructure planning, the impact of geological uncertainty on CCS pipeline transportation and injection infrastructure. The analysis presented shows how to consider uncertainty in store properties in combination with CO2 flow variability to estimate the likely impact on pipeline infrastructure design. The operational envelope of the storage site infrastructure is estimated by combining the Darcy flow analysis of simple reservoir models with rigorous process simulation of the storage site wells. The proximity of wellhead conditions to the CO2 equilibrium line and the maximum velocities inside the well constrain the operational envelope of the storage site and limit the ability of the storage site infrastructure to handle CO2 flow variation. These factors, which are significantly influenced by variations in subsurface conditions, have also an impact on the design of the offshore pipeline infrastructure, needing to accommodate changes in pressure delivery requirements. Based on the evaluation of examples developed for different offshore transportation scenarios relevant to the United Kingdom, detailed insight on the expected impacts of store properties on pipeline transportation infrastructure design and operation is provided. For instance, it is found that enabling storage site flexibility is simpler in stores with an initial pressure above 20MPa. Given reductions in reservoir permeability, the requirements for pressure delivery are strongly dependent on the store temperature. Although the analysis is performed for specific geological characteristics in the North Sea the evaluation methodology is transferable to other locations and can be used for site screening to identify sites which are more flexible in terms of uncertainty in store performance.

<b>“Government is not interested in our Welfare": Farmers’ Perception on Agricultural Transportation System in Imo State, Nigeria</b>

This aim of this paper is to present an analysis of the state of current transportation infrastructure in agricultural producing areas of Imo state identifying the problems associated with it, focusing on socio-economic and political issues related to rural-urban movement of agricultural produce. This study was carried out in Imo state and involved two methods, semi-structured Interviews and questionnaires. 79 semi-structured Interviews were conducted with the stakeholders who are the consumers, farmers, traders, transporters. 30 open- and closed-ended questionnaires were responded to by different levels of government officials in the ministry. Regarding the availability of transport infrastructure to support agriculture, there was a 100% agreement from the farmers, consumers, traders and transporters that there is very little available infrastructure in their locality contrary to the views of the Ministries of Transport, Agriculture and Commerce and Industry who negated this assertion. Regarding the prioritization of policy in development plans, the interviews revealed that the government effort is shared equally between the rural and urban areas but the rural dwellers think otherwise. There was 100% agreement from the traders, consumers, farmers and transporters that government efforts have been focused in the urban areas with very littledevelopment in their rural settings. This paper suggests ways of improving transportation infrastructure provision in the state by assessing needs of those locals involved in the production and distribution of agricultural produce. This assessment justifies the need for transportation infrastructure provision via the potential economic gain of the state which can be achieved via the better movement of agricultural produce. This paper links the theory and practise of agricultural transportation in Imo state and stresses the need for prioritisation of transportation infrastructure provision in the state. This connection encourages/incites government towards provision for the needs of the local areas and away from its current ‘policy without facts’ common in transportation infrastructure provision.Keywords: Rural transport, Agricultural agents, Policy, Transport infrastructure, Rural roads

Impact of Transport Infrastructure on Firm Formation

This paper investigates the relationship between the availability of transport infrastructure and new plant openings in Portugal. The paper estimates an econometric model that uses plant-level data and geographic information systems to test whether denser motorway and railway networks have a positive effect on the formation of firms in Portuguese municipalities for various sectors of the economy. In addition to a study of the role of the own-municipality transport infrastructure, tests for the presence of spatial spillovers from the transport infrastructure were also conducted. The results suggest that both the railway and the motorway networks act as determinants of new plant openings. Expanding the local municipality railway and motorway networks by 10% can produce an increase in new plant openings from 0.9% to 2.7% and 0.7% to 2.6%, respectively. Positive spatial spillover effects from the transport infrastructure were also found: improving the motorway and railway networks of neighboring municipalities by 10% increases plant openings by from 2.7% to 5.1% and 2.4% to 6.7%, respectively.

Effects of Transportation Accessibility on Residential Property Values

The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between the availability of transportation infrastructure and services and the pattern of house prices in an urban area and to assess whether public investment in transportation can modify residential property values. This study was developed for the Lisbon, Portugal, metropolitan area (LMA) as part of a broader study that intends to develop new value-capture financing schemes for public transportation in the LMA. The paper focuses on three central municipalities in Portugal (Amadora, Lisbon, and Odivelas), where these effects could be more easily measured because of the existence of a significant variability of public transportation services. The paper tries to determine, with different spatial hedonic pricing models, the extent to which access to transportation infrastructure currently is capitalized into house prices and isolates the influence of three different transportation infrastructures: metro, rail, and road. The results suggest that the proximity to one or two metro lines leads to significant property value changes. Results further indicate that the classic hedonic price model (ordinary least-squares estimation) leads to similar coefficient values of the local accessibility dummy variables compared with the spatial lag model and thus provides a steady basis to forecast the property value changes derived from transportation investment for the study area in the absence of a significant property value database.
