The Accuracy of Casts Obtained Using Different Impression Techniques and Impression Materials in Combined Parallel and Angulated Implants: An In Vitro Study.

Aim The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the accuracy of casts made from two elastomeric impression materials (polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) and vinylsiloxanether (VSE)) using different impression techniques on parallel and angulated implants. Materials and methods The reference model was fabricated using auto-polymerizing acrylic resin on which three implant analogs were placed of which two were parallel to each other and the third at 20-degree mesial angulation. A total of 60 impressions were madeof which 30 were by using PVS and 30 by VSE. For each material, 10 impressions were made by closed tray technique, 10 by open tray techniqueand 10 by open tray with sandblasting and adhesive coating of the impression copings technique. The inter-analog distances of the casts obtained were evaluated and compared with the reference model by a vision measuring machine. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey's Honest Significant Difference (HSD) post hocand independent samples t-test. Results When the inter-analog distances of the duplicate casts were compared with the reference model, the mean error rates for parallel implants decreased in the order of closed tray technique, open tray technique and open tray with sandblasting and adhesive coating of the impression copings technique for both PVS and VSE impression materials. Similarly, the same order was observed for angulated implants for both impression materials. Using the closed tray technique, there was no statistically significant difference in the accuracy of the cast between the two materials for parallel implants (P = 0.525) and also no significant difference between the two materials for angulated implants (P = 0.307). Similarly, there was no statistically significant difference in the accuracy of the cast between the two materials for parallel implants (P = 0.455) and also no significant difference between the two materials for angulated implants (P = 0.519) using the open tray technique. Whereas for the open tray with sandblasting and adhesive coating of the impression copings technique, VSE produced a more accurate cast than PVS for parallel implants and was statistically significant (P = 0.033); however, there was no significant difference between the two materials for angulated implants (P = 0.375). Conclusion For parallel implants, VSE by an open tray with sandblasting and adhesive coating of the impression copings technique produced a more accurate cast than PVS. For angulated implants, there was no significant difference between the two materials and it was only the technique that significantly affected the accuracy of the cast.

Denture relining using digital replication method: A dental technique.

The aim of this report was to digitize traditional denture relining using a digital duplication method, in addition to assessing the wear resistance of three-dimensional (3D) printed denture teeth. A complete denture was relined using light body impression. The denture with impression was scanned yielding a standard tessellation language file that was designed to print the denture base and teeth. The printed teeth were fitted into the sockets of the printed denture base and then bonded using auto-polymerized acrylic resins, followed by finishing and polishing. Dentures were inserted and fit and occlusion were adjusted as needed, and the patient was scheduled for follow-up appointments at one week, three months, and six months. At each follow-up visit, dentures were scanned using a 3Shape E3 desktop scanner and scans were superimposed. The occlusal wear was assessed in reference to the first scan after the denture insertion visit. The accuracy of the intaglio surface of dentures was within clinically acceptable limits. The clinical evaluation of inserted dentures in terms of retention, occlusion, esthetic, and patient satisfaction was encouraging. Using digital duplication, conventional dentures could be relined. The advantages of digital records include eliminating polymerization dimensional changes, and reducing cost and clinical time by minimizing the number of visits, which is particularly helpful with geriatric patients.

Effects of a Benzalkonium Chloride Surfactant-Sodium Hypochlorite Combination on Microhardness and Mineral Content of Dentin

This study aimed to investigate the impact of the combination of Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) and sodium hypochloride (NaOCl) and its application after ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in root canal irrigation procedures on the microhardness and mineral content of dentin. Distal roots of mandibular third molars were embedded in auto-polymerizing acrylic resin, sectioned coronally to apically resulting in fifty-four root sections. Thirty sections underwent microhardness evaluation, and twenty-four sections were randomly chosen for mineral analysis. The microhardness assessment comprised three groups: Group 1 (2.5% NaOCl), Group 2 (2.5% NaOCl with 0.084% BAC), and Group 3 (2.5% NaOCl with 0.084 BAC post-17% EDTA). Initial and post-irrigation microhardness values were measured for each group. For mineral analysis, samples were categorized into four groups: distilled water, 2.5% NaOCl, 2.5% NaOCl with 0.084% BAC, and 17% EDTA+2.5% NaOCl with 0.084% BAC. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy immediately measured magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium mineral contents on dentin surfaces post-irrigation. Results indicated a significant reduction in root dentin microhardness for all solutions (p<0.05). However, no statistically significant difference in the percentage of reduction was observed among the groups (p>0.05). XPS analysis revealed no significant disparity in dentin surface mineral content among the groups (p>0.05). In conclusion, the addition of Benzalkonium chloride to sodium hypochloride, either alone or after EDTA, did not induce a significant alteration in dentin microhardness or mineral content. These findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of dental irrigation protocols and their effects on dentin properties during endodontic procedures.

Effect of Incorporation of Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone on Transverse Strength, Impact Strength and Surface Roughness of Autopolymerizing Acrylic Resin

Autopolymerizing acrylic resin is one of the most frequently used materials in dentistry, but it has relatively poor mechanical properties This study investigated the effect of the addition of poly vinyl pyrrolidone on transverse strength, impact strength and surface roughness of autopolymerzing acrylic resin. A total of 60 specimens were prepared, 30 specimens of each conventional and modified autoplymerizing acrylic.20 specimens of each groups were fabricated with dimensions of (64×10×2.5) mm to conduct the transverse strength and surface roughness tests, while the remaining 10 specimens of each group were fabricated with dimensions of (80×10×4) mm to perform the impact strength test. The results of this study showed that the modified autopolytmerized acrylic had significantly higher transverse strength, and significantly lower surface roughness values while there was no significant differences in impact strength value. It can be concluded that addition of Polyvinylpyrrolidone can improve transverse strength and surface roughness of autopolymerizing acrylic resin.

Microleakage Evaluation of a Silorane-Based and Methacrylate-Based Packable and Nanofill Posterior Composites (in vitro comparative study)

This study compared in vitro the microleakage of a new low shrink silorane-based posterior composite (Filtek™ P90) and two methacrylate-based composites: a packable posterior composite (Filtek™ P60) and a nanofill composite (Filtek™ Supreme XT) through dye penetration test. Thirty sound human upper premolars were used in this study. Standardized class V cavities were prepared at the buccal surface of each tooth. The teeth were then divided into three groups of ten teeth each: (Group 1: restored with Filtek™ P90, Group 2: restored with Filtek™ P60, and Group 3: restored with Filtek™ Supreme XT). Each composite system was used according to the manufacturer's instructions with their corresponding adhesive systems. The teeth were then thermocycled, immersed in 1% methylene blue dye for 24 hours at room temperature, embedded in auto-polymerizing acrylic resin and sectioned longitudinally bucco-lingually. Microleakage was evaluated by assessing the linear dye penetration at the tooth/restoration interface occlusally and gingivally. The highest microleakage score occlusally or gingivally was recorded and the results were analyzed statistically using SPSS version 13. The results of this study showed that the silorane-based posterior composite Filtek™ P90 showed significantly less microleakage than the methacrylate-based packable composite (Filtek™ P60) and the nano-filled composite (Filtek™ Supreme XT) when the tooth-restoration interface is located in enamel.

The effect of various surface treatments on the repair bond strength of denture bases produced by digital and conventional methods.

There is limited information on the repairability of prostheses produced with digital technology. This study aims to evaluate various surface treatments on flexural bond strength of repaired dentured base resins produced by digital and conventional methods. A total of 360 samples were prepared from one heat-polymerized, one CAD/CAM milled and one 3D printed denture base materials. All of the test samples were subjected to thermocycling (5-55°C, 5000 cycles) before and after repair with auto-polymerizing acrylic resin. The test samples were divided into five subgroups according to the surface treatment: grinding with silicon carbide (SC), sandblasting with Al2O3 (SB), Er:YAG laser (L), plasma (P) and negative control (NC) group (no treatment). In addition, the positive control (PC) group consisted of intact samples for the flexural strength test. Surface roughness measurements were performed with a profilometer. After repairing the test samples, a universal test device determined the flexural strength values. Both the surface topography and the fractured surfaces of samples were examined by SEM analysis. The elemental composition of the tested samples was analyzed by EDS. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed for statistical analysis of data. SB and L surface treatments statistically significantly increased the surface roughness values of all three materials compared to NC subgroups (p < 0.001). The flexural strength values of the PC groups in all three test materials were significantly higher than those of the other groups (p < 0.001). The repair flexural strength values were statistically different between the SC-SB, L-SB, and NC-SB subgroups for the CAD/CAM groups, and the L-SC and L-NC subgroups for the 3D groups (p < 0.001). The surface treatments applied to the CAD/CAM and heat-polymerized groups did not result in a statistically significant difference in the repair flexural strength values compared to the NC groups (p > 0.05). Laser surface treatment has been the most powerful repair method for 3D printing technique. Surface treatments led to similar repair flexural strengths to untreated groups for CAD/CAM milled and heat-polymerized test samples.

Impact of effervescent denture cleaning tablets on color and surface characteristics of additively manufactured and hand-cast splint materials.

This study is to evaluate the color stability, surface roughness, and hardness of additively manufactured and hand-cast splint materials after a 6-month commercially available denture cleaning tablet immersion simulation. Disc-shaped additively manufactured and hand-cast auto polymerizing acrylic resin specimens were prepared (N = 40 each). All specimens were exposed to coffee solution totally 2days. Thereafter, all specimens were immersed into three different effervescent solutions that simulated 6months of clinical use. The total color change (ΔE*ab), surface roughness (Ra), and Vickers hardness (Vh) were measured at baseline and after immersion protocols. A two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni's post hoc test were used for color change. The dependent t-test and ANOVA were used for roughness and hardness evaluation. Additively manufactured splint materials were more affected by coffee immersion. It was observed that all denture cleaning tablets induced a noticeable alteration in color of the specimens (p < 0.05). Roughness and hardness measurement changes after solution immersions were statistically significant for both splint groups (p < 0.05). On the other hand, distilled water and denture cleaning tablets created similar roughness and hardness measurements at baseline and after immersion. After 6months use of tested cleaning tables, the color stability, surface roughness, and hardness of both groups were affected. The evaluation of the surface properties of splint materials could be recommended to the dentists in periodic controls during splint treatments. The use effervescent denture cleaning tablets altered the surface characteristics of tested splint materials over time with nonsignificant difference between each other. After 6months, awareness should be raised about surface characteristics of splint materials.

Comparative evaluation of wear resistance between lithium disilicates and polymer infiltrated ceramics manufactured by computer aided design (CAD) computer aided manufacturing (CAM) against natural tooth enamel

Advances in CAD/CAM technology led to development of monolithic all ceramic restorations with superior esthetics like Lithium disilicate. But the major concern of ceramic materials was its wear towards the opposing enamel. Polymer infiltrated ceramics were developed by incorporating resin polymer in ceramics to produce esthetic stability of ceramics and low abrasive nature of composites and very few studies were done on this material. A total of 30 disc specimens were fabricated by CAD/CAM .15 discs of CAD/CAM lithium disilicate (IPS E.max CAD) and 15 discs of Polymer infiltrated ceramics of dimensions 10mmx3mm. They were named as group 1 (CAD/CAM Lithium disilicate) and group 2(Polymer infiltrated ceramics). 30 tooth specimens were mounted on auto polymerising acrylic resin blocks. Tooth specimens were placed on the upper member of the two body wear testing machine (Pin on disc wear and friction test rig, Magnum) and Lithium disilicate and polymer infiltrated ceramic disc specimens were positioned on disc of wear testing apparatus under constant load of 5kg (49N). The specimens were made to rub against one another in a rotating cycle to simulate oral wear cycle. The test was run for total of 10,000 wear cycles at 30rpm on wear machine for each sample. Wear of group 1 and group 2 and enamel wear of group 1 and group 2 was measured before and after wear test by profile projector.Wilcoxon test was done to compare the groups. Results showed that wear was greater in group 1 (Polymer infiltrated ceramics) compared to group 2 (CAD/CAM Lithium disilicate) and enamel wear of group 1 was greater than enamel wear of group 2. This study was performed to evaluate the wear resistance of CAD/CAM lithium disilicate and Polymer infiltrated ceramics against natural teeth enamel.

Evaluation of the marginal adaptation and debonding strength of two types of CAD-CAM implant-supported cement-retained crowns

BackgroundIn-vitro data from a clinically well-known lithium disilicate ceramic reference was used to assess the expected performance of resin-based materials in implant dentistry. The purpose of the study was to compare the bond strength and marginal adaptation of nano-ceramic hybrid composite crowns cemented to stock cement-retained abutments to lithium disilicate crowns.MethodsTwenty abutment analogs were embedded into auto-polymerizing acrylic resin blocks. The blocks were divided into 2 groups according to the restorative crown material. The 2 groups were divided as follows: Resin nano-ceramic group and lithium disilicate group. Abutment analogs in both groups were scanned using a laboratory scanner, and the restorations were designed, manufactured, and cemented with resin cement over the corresponding group. All samples were tested for marginal adaptation and bond strength after storage for 24 hours at 37 °C in 100% humidity. Data were collected, tabulated, and statistically analysed using the appropriate tests. Normality was checked using Shapiro Wilk test and Q-Q plots. Data were normally distributed. Variables were presented using mean, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) and standard deviation in addition to median and Inter Quartile Range (IQR). Differences between groups regarding debonding forces was assessed using independent t test. Two Way ANOVA was performed to assess the effect of material and bonding on marginal gap. All tests were two tailed and p value was set at < 0.05.ResultsMarginal gap and debonding force values were significantly different according to the type of material used (P < .05). Resin nano-ceramic crowns presented lower marginal gap values before (20.80 ± 8.87 μm) and after (52.11 ± 22.92 μm) bonding than lithium disilicate crowns. The debonding force value for resin nano-ceramic crowns (284.30 ± 26.44 N) was significantly higher than that for lithium disilicate crowns (253.30 ± 33.26 N). Adhesive failure mode was detected in all the specimens in both groups.ConclusionsThe type of material used for implant-supported cement-retained crowns had a statistically significant effect on marginal adaptation and bond strength. Resin nano-ceramic implant-supported cement-retained crowns had better marginal adaptation and higher bond strength than those manufactured using lithium disilicate.

The effect of hydrofluoric acid treatment on the repair strength of polyamide denture base materials: An in vitro study.

Although polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dentures can be repaired using autopolymerizing acrylic resin, achieving it using polyamides is difficult. This study aimed to achieve acceptable bond strength using autopolymerizing acrylic resin by applying surface treatments to the polyamide denture base material. Thirty-six disc-shaped samples (27 polyamide, 9 PMMA) were prepared. Based on the surface treatment applied, the polyamide samples were divided into three groups: No surface treatment (n=9), tribochemical silica coating+silane coupling agent (n=9), and 9% hydrofluoric acid+tribochemical silica coating+silane coupling agent (n=9). PMMA specimens received no surface treatment. Polyamide and PMMA surfaces had auto-polymerizing acrylic resin bonded on them, and then a shear bond strength test was performed between them after aging. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used, and statistical significance was set at p<0.05. PMMA had the highest shear bond strength, the untreated polyamide group had the lowest shear bond strength, and the difference was significant (p<0.05). The group treated with 9% hydrofluoric acid, tribochemical silica coating, and silane coupling agent exhibited the highest shear bond strength of the polyamide groups, and the bond strength in this group was comparable to the PMMA specimens (p>0.05). The polyamide denture repair strength can be improved by 9% hydrofluoric acid, tribochemical silica coating, and silane coupling agent application to the polyamide surface.

Effect of Surface Textures and Fabrication Methods on Shear Bond Strength Between Titanium Framework and Auto-Polymerizing Acrylic Repair Resin.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of airborne particle abrasion (using different sizes of alumina particles) on the shear bond strength (SBS) between cast and milled titanium metal frameworks and auto-polymerizing acrylic repair resin. Forty flat cylindrical titanium disks were divided into two main divisions: cast and milled titanium. The two divisions were further subdivided into four groups based on metal surface treatment. Three particle sizes of aluminum oxide air abrasive powders (50µm, 110µm, and 250µm) were used for metal surface treatment by airborne particle abrasion. One group was the control group with no surface treatment. Auto-polymerizing acrylic repair resin was applied to all titanium disks. The specimens were subjected to SBS testing using a universal testing machine (Instron Corporation, Norwood, Massachusetts, United States). Surface evaluation was performed using a scanning electron microscope. One-way ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. The results showed a significant increase in SBS after airborne particle abrasion of both milled and cast titanium groups (p<0.001). The SBS was directly proportional to the size of the aluminum oxide particles. The milled titanium group showed higher SBS values than the cast group when the surface was not treated with alumina particles (p < 0.001) and when the surface was treated with the smaller particle sizes of 50 µm, whereas the cast group demonstrated higher SBS values than the milled group (p < 0.01) when the particle size was increased to 110 µm and 250 µm. It could be concluded that SBS between titanium metal frameworks and auto-polymerizing repair acrylic resin was directly related to the size of the alumina airborne particle abrasives. The fabrication method of the titanium frameworkalso influenced the SBS as the untreated milled frameworks demonstrated favorable SBS values compared to the untreated cast frameworks.

Dimensional Stability and Retention Strength of Impressions to Custom Impression Trays Fabricated Using Conventional Method and Additive Technology - An In-vitro Study.

3D printing technology is replacing manual fabrication in all fields. 3D-printed impression trays should be assessed as they could replace conventional impression trays in the future. In-vitro comparison and evaluation of the dimensional stability and retention strength of impressions to custom impression trays fabricated using conventional method and additive technology. A maxillary edentulous auto-polymerizing acrylic resin model served as the master model. Two moulds were prepared from the master model in order to obtain 12 casts. One cast was scanned for 3D printing digital light processing (DLP) and fused deposition modelling (FDM) 24 impression trays using polylactic acid (PLA). Twelve casts were used to fabricate light cure impression trays. Polyvinyl-siloxane impressions were made on the master model using 36 impression trays and 18 trays each were used to assess dimensional stability and retention strength. In dimensional stability analysis, one sample t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between each group and the master model followed by a one-way ANOVA. There were significant differences, but the difference was less with FDM trays (P < 0.05). In retention strength analysis, one-way Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed statistically significant difference between each group and post-hoc test revealed specific difference, the highest with FDM trays (P < 0.05). Dimensional changes were observed at 30 minutes and 72 hours. Lesser dimensional changes were observed when impressions were made using FDM trays followed by DLP and light cure trays. The mean retention strength seen in descending order was FDM, followed by DLP and light cure trays. The best retention strength was noticed when impressions were made using FDM trays.

The Effect of Recycled CAD/CAM PEEK Fibers on the Transverse Strength of Repaired Acrylic Resin

One of the significant advantages of Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is its ability to bond composite materials. This makes it a versatile material that can be used in a range of dental applications, including as a framework for fixed or removable dental prostheses. The aim of this study is to evaluate the transverse strength of heat-cured acrylic resin after reinforcing repaired material with recycled PEEK fibers obtained from a CAD/CAM machine. After milling, PEEK fibers were collected from the CAM machine. The size of the PEEK fibers was measured by utilizing a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM); with the particle grit size being 200 µm. Thirty specimens were used and divided into three groups of heat-cured acrylic resins was evaluated. All specimens have been stored at 37°C prior to fracture, and specimens have been then repaired after fracture with an auto-polymerizing acrylic resin using Ivomet. Group A of heat-cured specimens was used as a (control group) and repaired with no additive to the self-cured acrylic repair materials. While group B has been repaired by self-cured acrylic reinforced with of 1%wt. PEEK fibers, group C has been repaired by self-cured acrylic reinforced with the addition of 2%wt. PEEK fiber. There is a difference between groups A and C; however, there is a significant difference at 0.05 when comparing with groups B and C. When compared to (1%wt. PEEK-fiber) and the control group, adding (2%wt. PEEK-fiber) improves the transverse strength of the repaired heat-cured acrylic resins.

Effect of repair and thermal cycling on the flexural strength of denture base materials fabricated from different methods

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the flexural strength of the denture base materials produced by different methods after repair and was to evaluate effect of thermal aging. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 specimens were fabricated by conventional, CAD/CAM milled, and 3D-printed denture base materials for this in vitro study. Specimens were divided into four groups; non-repaired groups (N), repaired groups (R), non-repaired-aged groups (N-aged), and repaired-aged (R-aged) groups. In N groups, specimens were stored in the water bath for 24 h before the flexural strength test. In N-aged groups, samples were subjected to thermal aging for 5000 cycles, then tested. For repaired R groups, samples were repaired with auto-polymerized acrylic resin and storage in the water bath for 24 h then tested. For the R-aged groups, samples were repaired with auto-polymerized acrylic resin, aged for 5000 cycles, then tested. All specimens were aged with thermocycling (TMC; 5000 cycles, 5◦C/55◦C) and repaired with auto-polymerized acrylic resin or composite resin. Half of the repaired samples were subjected to shear bond strength (SBS) test while the other half were subjected to TMC to simulate the aging of the repair material. Then, artificially aged specimens were also subjected to SBS test. Data were statistically analyzed by three-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Comparative evaluation of shear bond strength of three different glass ionomer cement (conventional, zirconium-reinforced and advanced glass hybrid) in primary molars: an in vitro study.

The success of restorative materials is largely dependent on their capacity to adhere to the tooth structure and withstand the various forces present in the oral cavity. So, the aim of present study was to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of Type IX Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC), Zirconomer, and Gold Label Hybrid GIC in primary molars. Thirty primary molars were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The molars were polished to provide a flat dentin surface after being inserted in auto polymerizing acrylic resin. The samples were randomly divided into three groups, equally and were bonded to GIC. On the dentin surface, restoration cylinders were made using a plastic mould that had an internal diameter and height of 5mm and 3mm, respectively. The cement was manipulated according to the manufacturer's directions through the plastic mould. Then, the samples were stored at room temperature for 10days to mimic oral conditions. The Universal Testing Machine was used to test SBS. One-way ANOVA and the post hoc Tukey test were used to statistically assess the collected data. A statistically significant difference was found in all three groups (p < 0.01), with Zirconomer demonstrating highest SBS, followed by Type IX GIC and Gold Label Hybrid GIC. The SBS value of Zirconomer was better when compared to Type IX GIC and Gold Label Hybrid GIC.

Decontamination of lithium disilicate ceramics using various photosensitizers, herbal and chemical disinfectants, and the effect of surface conditioners on bond strength values

AimTo assess and compare the antimicrobial efficacy of disinfectants on lithium disilicate ceramic (LDC) used in dental applications and shear bond strength (SBS) of LDC after using different conditioners hydrofluoric acid (HF), self-etching ceramic primers (SECP) and Neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate (Nd: YVO4). Materials and methodsOne hundred and twenty LDC discs were fabricated by auto-polymerizing acrylic resin using the lost wax technique. S. aureus, S. mutans, and C. albican were inoculated on thirty discs (n = 30 each). Each group was further divided into three subgroups based on different disinfecting agents used (n = 30) Group 1: Garlic extract, Group 2: Rose Bengal (RB) activated by PDT, and Group 3: Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). An assessment of the survival rate of microorganisms was performed. The remaining thirty samples were surface treated using three different LDC surface conditioners (n = 10) Group 1: HF + Silane (S), group 2: SECP, and Group 3: Nd: YVO4 laser+S. SBS and failure mode analysis were performed using a universal testing machine and stereomicroscope at 40x magnification, The statistical analysis was conducted using one-way ANOVA and Post Hoc Tukey test. ResultsGarlic extract, RB, and 2% NaOCl sample displayed comparable outcomes of antimicrobial potency against C. albicans, S aureus, and S. mutans (p > 0.05). Furthermore, SBS analysis showed HF+S, SECP, and Nd: YVO4+S exhibited comparable outcomes of bond strength (p > 0.05). ConclusionGarlic extract and Rose bengal activated by PDT can be contemplated as alternatives to the chemical agent NaOCl used for LDC disinfection. Similarly, SECP and Nd: YVO4 possess the potential to be used for the surface conditioning of LDC to improve the bond integrity with resin cement.

Use of final irrigant potassium titanyl phosphate laser; Sapindus Mukorossi and Fotoenticine on the bond values of zirconia post-to-canal dentin

AimsAssessment of the efficacy of final root canal irrigants Sapindus mukorossi (SM), Potassium titanyl phosphate laser (KTPL), and Fotoenticine (FTC) on the push-out bond strength (PBS) of zirconia post. Materials and methodsThe root canal procedure was initiated using the 10 K file and the working length was determined on single-rooted human premolar teeth after decoration. The canals were then enlarged using ProTaper universal system and filled using single cone gutta-percha (GP) and AH Plus resin sealer. Post space was prepared by removing 10 mm of GP from the canal. All the teeth were then allocated into four groups based on the final irrigating regime used (n = 10) Group 1: 5.25% NaOCl+17% EDTA, Group 2: 5.25% NaOCl + KTPL, Group 3: 5.25% NaOCl + FTC and Group 4: 5.25% NaOCl+ SM. Zirconia posts were cemented in the canal space. The specimens were sectioned and implanted in auto-polymerizing acrylic resin. A universal testing machine and stereomicroscope at 40x magnification were used for PBS and failure mode analysis. ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used to make group comparisons(p = 0.05). ResultsGroup 4 (5.25% NaOCl+ SM) coronal section displayed the highest PBS (9.29±0.24 MPa). However, group 3 (5.25% NaOCl+ FTC) apical third (4.08±0.14 MPa) showed the lowest bond values. Group 2 (5.25% NaOCl+ KTP laser) and Group 3 at all three-thirds unveiled no significant difference in PBS(p>0.05). However, Group 1 (5.25% NaOCl+17%EDTA) and Group 4 displayed comparable outcomes of bond strength(p>0.05) ConclusionSapindus mukorossi has the ability to be used as a final root canal irrigant alternative to EDTA. However, future studies are still required to conclude the outcomes of existing research.

Effect of Root Canal Taper on the Ability of Endodontically Treated Teeth using the TruNatomy and Protaper Next File Systems to Resist Fracture.

This research was done to evaluate how the root canal taper affects the Endodontically Treated Teeth (ETT) prepared with the TruNatomy and Protaper Next file systems in terms of fracture resistance. Forty recently extracted mandibular premolar teeth were used in this research, which was classified into four groups at random. Groups 1a and 1b used TruNatomy 4% and 6%, respectively, while groups 2a and 2b used the Protaper Next 4% and 6% file systems, respectively. The root canals were cleaned, shaped, and sealed using cold lateral compaction. The root canals were then fixed in standardized autopolymerizing acrylic resin blocks and tested for vertical root fracture using a universal testing machine. Newtons were used to measure the forces needed to cause fractures. Data were statistically analyzed. In comparison with other groups, group 1a (TruNatomy 4%) displayed greater fracture resistance (423.322.43 Newtons), and group 2b (Protaper Next 6%) displayed the least fracture resistance (264.512.76 Newtons). Protaper Next file system had lower fracture resistance than TruNatomy file system. With the use of greater taper instruments, a notable decrease in the fracture resistance of ETT was observed.

The Effect of Disinfection Methods on C. Albicans in Three Types of Denture Base Materials

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of disinfectant solutions on Candida albicans (C. albicans) for different types of denture materials. A total of 144 specimens (10x10x2 mm) were obtained from three different materials: autopolymerized acrylic resin, heat-cured acrylic resin, and hard relining material (n = 6). Three disinfectant solutions were used: 100% white vinegar, 2% chlorhexidine digluconate (Saver) and denture cleaning tablets (Corega). The specimens were placed on Eliza plates and 1.5 mL of Yeast Extract Peptone (YPD) was added to each well. Then, 30�L of candida culture was added to the wells. Next, the specimens were incubated at 37�C at 80 rpm for 48 h. Disinfectants were added to the Eliza plates. For all specimens, the disinfectants were replaced with 2 mL of sterile water and kept at 100 rpm for 30 min. Then, 0.1 mL of the liquid was taken and inoculated into the pads containing YPD medium. After incubation, the candida colony growth on the pads was measured. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images were taken from randomly selected specimens from each group. Statistically significant differences (𝑃 [ 0.05) were found between the disinfectant method groups and the control group for the three types of denture materials. The 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (Saver) disinfectant was the most effective for C. Albicans ATCC 60193 and oral isolate of C. Albicans for all three of the tested denture materials. The effect of cleaning of tabs (Corega) and white vinegar was found to be similar.
