The Effect of Parenting Styles Based on Teeneger Approaches to Prevention of Free Association in Teeneger in Padangsidimpuan

Introduction: Free association is a form of association that isn’t bound by social rules and norms caused by a person's inability to sort out information that must be applied in everyday life. Promiscuity is synonymous with teenagers Objective: This research aims to analyze the influence of parenting styles based on adolescent approaches to preventing promiscuity Method: This research is quantitative type with the method used retrospective research, because the researcher will explore teenagers' experiences related to parenting patterns carried out by parents in everyday life, and without any treatment. The sample size was 120 respondents. Result: The results found that the majority of respondents had an authoritative parenting style, 107 people (89.2%). Based on preventing promiscuity, the majority were able to prevent 112 people (93.3%). The bivariate results for both variables show that the p-value is 0.011, which can be interpreted as having an influence on parental parenting on preventing juvenile delinquency (0.011 < 0.05) Conclusion: Actions to prevent promiscuity according to teenagers are closely related to the parenting patterns used by parents. Authoritative parenting is the best parenting style compared to other parenting styles in caring for teenagers. This is because this parenting style provides teaching in the form of a sense of responsibility and explanation in every action, so that teenagers will understand the reasons for what actions they can and cannot take.

Parenting styles and its impact on career decision-making among emerging adulthood

Emerging adulthood is characterized by the need to make significant life choices. These life choices have their roots in historical and sociological circumstances. More recently, academicians have started to investigate how parenting styles may affect factors related to career decision-making, such as career decidedness. This study was conducted to explore the role of parenting style on career decision-making among emerging adults. 350 college students from different colleges in Tiruvannamalai city were selected through stratified random sampling and the data was collected with the help of the Parental authority questionnaire by Buri (1991); Career decision-making inventory by Singh (2014). Results revealed that the authoritative parenting style was positively associated with career decidedness and negatively associated with career indecision of career decision-making. Whereas authoritarian parenting style had a significant positive association with career indecision and a negative association with career decidedness. Furthermore, there was a significant gender difference in career decision-making among emerging adults.

Relationships between Parenting Style and Children’s Self-Efficacy: A Systematic Review

It is crucial to identify parenting techniques that are suitable for the present-day environment to promote the optimal mental well-being of children. Following a PRISMA method, this study conducted a systematic review of the relationships between parenting style and children’s self-efficacy. A total of 32 journal articles published on Scopus and Web of Science in the last five years were included in the review. The synthesis indicated that while an authoritative parenting style often generates good results, parents’ permissiveness nowadays can be beneficial to offspring’s growth of self-efficacy. Combined with the analysis of different dimensions of parenting style, this study concluded that a warm-based parenting style is favorable parenting for developing children’s self-efficacy, no matter the children’s age, cultural contexts, and types of self-efficacy. This study not only highlights the gaps in existing research and offers guidance for future study in the field, but also provides practical implications for contemporary family education. Parents and educators can gain valuable insights to implement effective parenting strategies and create a supportive atmosphere that is consistent between home and school.

Impact of Parenting Patterns Against Early Marriage

This article explores the impact that parents' parenting styles have on the tendency for early marriage in their children. In-depth research has revealed that parents' approach to raising children can have a major influence on children's perspectives, decisions and attitudes towards marriage in the future. From a rigid authoritarian parenting style to a supportive authoritative approach, as well as a permissive parenting style that tends to be loose, this article discusses how each of these parenting styles can shape a child's view of the institution of marriage. The analysis also includes the influence of family communication, the values that instilled, as well as the level of parental involvement in the child's life regarding marriage preparations. A number of relevant studies and scientific findings will be described to support the claim that parenting styles play a crucial role in encouraging or inhibiting the tendency for early marriage. This article seeks to provide a better understanding of how parental parenting styles can form the basis of children's decisions regarding marriage. The conclusion of this article provides in-depth thoughts about efforts that can be made, both in family education and parental guidance, to form parenting patterns that support their children to make more mature marriage decisions in the future.

A structural equation model of factors influencing intimate partner violence victimization and health outcomes among men who have sex with men in Bangkok, Thailand

Intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization is a serious public health problem. Factors influencing intimate partner violence among men who have sex with men (MSM) are not well understood in the Asian context where a powerful patriarchal system exists. In order to understand these factors, this study aimed to develop and test a structural equation model (SEM) of factors influencing intimate partner violence victimization and the resulting health outcomes. Data were collected from 382 male couples, who were registered as members of the Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand. The SEM was developed using AMOS version 24.0. that the model fits the empirical data very well (c2/df = 1.09 , p-value > 0.05, GFI = 0.975, RMSEA = 0.015) and found that 1) Intimate partner violence victimization among MSM was directly influenced by the variables of the greatest effect, younger age followed by open sexual orientation; 2) Physical health outcomes were directly influenced by presence in a risky community and history of family violence; 3) Psychological health outcomes were directly influenced by permissive parenting style, and 4) Both physical and mental health outcomes were indirectly influenced by younger age and open sexual orientation. The results suggest that intimate partner violence prevention programs among young MSM should be implemented at an early age, particularly targeting those with a history of family violence, substance abuse, low education and those living in risky communities. Authoritative parenting styles and stigmatization are also matters of concern.

THE INFLUENCE OF PARENTING STYLES ON MATHEMATICS LEARNING MOTIVATION IN SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This study aims to determine the influence of paternal parenting styles on the motivation of seventh-grade students to learn mathematics at SMP Negeri 2 Bukittinggi. A correlational research method with an Ex Post Facto approach was employed, involving 156 students with a sample size of 31 individuals. The instrument used was a questionnaire, and data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0. The results indicated a significant influence of paternal parenting styles on students' mathematics learning motivation, reflected in various parenting styles. The regression equation for authoritarian paternal parenting style and mathematics learning motivation was . For the democratic parenting style, it was . The neglectful parenting style yielded , while the permissive style showed . The correlation value obtained was = 0,602 with a coefficient of determination of 36,2404%. Hypothesis testing resulted in a value of 3,298, which was greater than = 1,96 at a 0.05 confidence level, indicating that the hypothesis of a significant influence of paternal parenting on mathematics learning motivation was accepted. This underscores the importance of the father's role in influencing the mathematics learning motivation of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Bukittinggi for the academic year 2021/2022.

Parenting Style as Correlates of Anxiety Among Young Adults

Abstract: This study recognizes the crucial role early familial experiences have in influencing mental health outcomes and examines the association between parenting methods and anxiety levels among young adults. In this exploratory study, a broad sample of young adults (ages 18 to 25) completed self-report questionnaires to gauge their anxiety levels and describe their parents' parenting approaches in retrospect. Incorporating Baumrind's authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful parenting styles, the study used a comprehensive framework. The results showed a strong relationship between different parenting philosophies and young people' anxiety levels. Interestingly, those who grew up in authoritative households demonstrated reduced anxiety, underscoring the benefits of equitable parental response and engagement. On the other hand, those with histories of authoritarian or negligent parenting showed higher levels of anxiety, highlighting the possible drawbacks of excessively strict or uncaring parenting styles. In order to better understand the intricate interactions between parenting practices and anxiety consequences, the study also looked into potential mediating factors, such as attachment types and perceived social support. The findings of this study add to a more complex knowledge of the long-term effects of early experiences providing care on the mental health of young adults and could guide the development of focused therapies to lessen anxiety-related problems in this population. In the end, this study emphasizes how critical it is to take a multifaceted approach to studying the complex relationships between parenting practices and anxiety during the transition to adulthood.

Relationship between Parenting Educational Styles and Well-Being in Families with Autistic Children: A Systematic Review.

The prevalence of diagnosed cases of autism has increased rapidly, which has raised interest in studying the variables related to the well-being of these families. The purpose of this paper is to review the recent literature on other variables related to family well-being, such as parenting styles. We conducted a systematic review using the PRISMA check list and bias assessment with the aim of analyzing if the concepts of autism, well-being and parenting style are related. We screened 755 references from relevant databases like Scopus, Pubmed, PscyInfo EBSCO, Web of Science and Dialnet, updated on May 2024. Sixteen full text articles and abstracts were read. It was identified that the authoritative parenting style, as well as those based on warmth, establishing relationships and emotional bonding, and low expressed emotion were positively related to family well-being. On the other hand, authoritarian, permissive and overprotective styles, as well as critical, punishing and training-based, were negatively associated with well-being and quality of family life.

Parenting styles and young children’s problem behaviours: the mediating role of electronic media usage

ABSTRACT To explore the relationships among parenting styles, children’s electronic media usage (EMU) and children’s problem behaviours (CPB), 1,224 preschoolers aged 3–6 years old (52.0% boys; 30.9% aged 3 years old, 34.6% aged 4 years old, 26.1% aged 5 years old, and 8.4% aged 6 years old) and their parents were enrolled in the present study by means of a questionnaire administered as an online survey, with the primary caregivers completing the questionnaires regarding parenting styles, strengths and difficulties, and time their preschoolers spent using electronic media. The results indicated that there is a significant two-by-two correlation among the three variables. The authoritative parenting style significantly and negatively predicted recreational e-activities (REA) and CPB and significantly and positively predicted educational e-activities (EEA). The authoritarian parenting style significantly and positively predicted REA and CPB and significantly and negatively predicted EEA. A further bootstrap test indicated that children's EMU partially mediated the relationship between parenting styles and CPB.

Differences in mothers’ and fathers’ parenting styles

Aim: To examine parental experiences and investigate dif-ferences between mothers’ and fathers’ parenting practices.Methods: We used a qualitative methodology in this study. We conducted semi-structured interviews with both moth-ers and fathers from fifteen families between April and May 2021 in the Makarska Riviera region in southern Croatia. All interviews were conducted face-to-face, mostly in cafés and participants’ homes; they lasted 15 minutes on average.Results: Most fathers were stricter and had more authority over their children, while mothers were more permissive. Although both parents were involved in raising their chil-dren, the mothers had a slightly higher level of participa-tion. The parents used their free time to interact with their children. They set boundaries and expected their children to respect them, but also provided affection, warmth, and security. They addressed all parenting dilemmas by mutual agreement. Compared to their own parents, they used a soft-er approach with their children and preferred the authori-tative parenting style.Conclusions: It appears that parental practices have changed over time – the older, rigid, authoritarian parenting style has been supplanted by authoritative parenting. Nowadays, fathers are becoming increasingly involved in the family sphere and child-rearing, indicating a shift toward modern, equal parenting.

Parents as Teachers in Modular Distance Learning: Relationship of Parenting Style and The English Academic Performance

The purpose of this study was to examine the pupils’ parenting style and their English academic performance during modular distance learning in select two schools in Alamada, Philippines. More so, the study even explored the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics and English academic performance and the relationship between pupils’ parenting style and English academic performance. The researchers chose one hundred twelve Grade VI pupils through stratified random sampling with proportionate allocation. An expert-validated survey questionnaire was used to identify the parenting styles utilized by the respondents, while their English-accumulated grades served as the basis of their academic performance. Based on the result, the majority of them are 10-12 years old, male, Ilonggos, and have parents with high school education. It further revealed that the parenting style experienced by the respondents is authoritative. More so, the English academic performance of the respondents was satisfactory. It also revealed that sex, age, parents’ educational attainment, and the English academic performance of the respondents have a significantly weak relationship. More importantly, the study revealed a significant yet weak relationship between the respondents’ parents’ authoritative and neglectful parenting style and the respondents' academic performance in English. The findings suggest that incorporating authoritative parenting during modular distance learning positively influences the English academic performance of the pupils, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in shaping educational outcomes in this mode of learning. It is then recommended that parents as teachers should be careful about their parenting style since this ultimately affects their pupils’ academic performance.

Navigating the Maze: Parental Alienation, Self-Esteem and Parenting Styles

This study examines the interplay between childhood parental alienation, adult self-esteem, and parenting styles experienced during upbringing. The sample comprises 125 Romanian participants (76% female, 24% male), aged 21 to 59 (M= 33.8, SD= 8.88). Distinct datasets were formed based on the absence of either parent during childhood, enabling separate analyses for mother-child and father-child relationships. Results reveal a statistically significant negative association between childhood parental alienation and adult self-esteem. Moreover, a significant positive correlation is found between experiencing democratic parenting during childhood and current self-esteem. The study also demonstrates that the authoritarian parenting style only moderates the relationship between parental alienation and self-esteem within the father-child relationship, albeit at a low to moderate level of influence. Conversely, this effect is not observed within the mother-child relationship. These findings have been further analyzed in the context of current research on the topic, thus contributing to the comprehension, prevention and management of parental alienation, its impact on adult self-esteem, and the promotion of healthier parent-child relationships

The Impact of Parental Solid Self, Treatment Involvement, Stress, and Parenting Styles on Children’s Mental Health Symptom Severity

With the increasing rate of mental health disorders among youth in the United States (U.S.) and the essential role of parents in children’s development, many studies have investigated the relationship between parental factors and children’s mental health. The current study expanded on this research by exploring the impact of parent solid self (i.e., one subcategory of differentiation of self), parenting stress, parenting styles, and parent involvement in treatment on children’s mental health symptom severity. The sample included 216 parents (U.S. residents; Mage = 33.84, SDage = 5.384) with at least one youth aged 3–17 years actively or historically in mental health treatment. Participants completed an online survey that included a demographic questionnaire and measures of parenting styles, parental solid self, parental stress, and children’s symptom severity. A simple linear regression found that parental solid self and stress levels were associated with the severity of children’s symptoms. A two-way ANOVA revealed that parenting styles had a significant main effect on children’s symptom severity. Results also showed that the level of authoritative parenting style mediated the relationship between parental solid self and children’s symptom severity. This study further highlighted the importance of promoting individual therapy or psychoeducation for parents and how it might benefit children’s treatment. Future research may consider children’s perspectives, how parents engage with their child’s treatment, incorporating more expansive assessment methods, and longitudinal designs to further explore the impact of parents’ differentiation of self, parental stress, parenting styles, and parental involvement in treatment on children’s symptom severity.

THE IMPACT OF PARENTING PATTERNS ON SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL CHILDREN DEVELOPMENT

Parents in a family have a big responsibility in raising their children. An important part of building character is being a good parent. You can shape a person's character by teaching him values. Children learn religious and social values ​​from the way their parents treat them. This goal can be achieved if parents use the right parenting style. This is because the parenting style experienced by children will affect their social and mental growth. Therefore, parents need to learn more about how children develop social and emotional skills so that these skills develop well and can be accepted by society. The purpose of this study is to describe how parents help their children learn social and mental skills. The type of research carried out was qualitative research. This study was attended by all parents who had children aged between 9 and 12 years. The research was conducted in Bangsalsari, Jember, East Java, Indonesia. Observations and conversations are used to collect data. The triangulation method and Milles and Huberman theory can be used to check the validity of the data. Research findings show that parents have formed a democratic pattern towards their children by listening to and supporting their ideas. Authoritarian and loose parenting styles are not widely applied by parents who have their own children.

Parenting Style and Resilience among Homosexual in Indonesia

This study aims to determine the relationship of parenting styles and resilience in homosexuals (gay) in Indonesia. The research method used is quantitative with correlational design. A total of 454 homosexuals (gay) in Indonesia are used as participants using incidental sampling techniques. The measurement of this study used the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) scale with fathers’ authoritarian parenting style (α = .868), fathers’ authoritative parenting style (α = .766), fathers’ permissive parenting style (α = .768), mothers’ authoritarian parenting style (α = .868), mothers’ authoritative parenting style (α = .843), mothers’ permissive parenting style (α = .746), and the Resilience Quotient Scale (RQ) (α = .873). Data analysis was conducted using Karl Pearson's product-moment correlation test. The results of this study indicated that there is no relationship between fathers’ authoritarian parenting style and resilience (r = .065 and sig. = .084). Likewise, for the fathers’ authoritative parenting style, it showed no relationship with resilience (r = .003 and the sig. = .472). Similarly, there was no significant relationship found between fathers’ permissive parenting style and resilience (r = -.034 and sig. = .235). The results also revealed that there is no relationship between mothers’ authoritarian parenting style and resilience (r = .008) and sig. = .435). Likewise, no significant relationship was found between mothers’ authoritative parenting style and resilience (r = .005 and sig. = .457). Furthermore, the study found no relationship between mothers’ permissive parenting style and resilience (r = .015 and sig. = .379).

Parental Reports of Children's Dental Pain Experience and Associated Factors among Brazilian Children.

Exploring children's dental pain experiences helps to develop healthcare policies for improving oral health and quality of life. A cross-sectional study involved 300 parents/caregivers of four- to seven-year-old children using snowball sampling. Parents/caregivers self-completed an online questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, parenting styles, their child's oral hygiene practices, free sugar consumption, and dental history. The questionnaire was created using Google Forms and was disseminated to parents/caregivers via E-mail and/or WhatsApp©. Descriptive and Poisson regression analyses were performed (p < 0.05). Children's dental pain experience was reported by 20.3% of the parents. The authoritative parenting style was predominant. The child's mean age at the first consumption of sugar was 1.38 (±0.64) years, and 40.3% of the children had high-free sugar consumption. The mean age for the first dental appointment was 2.26 (±1.31) years, and 24.3% of the children never went to a dental appointment. The prevalence of dental pain experience was higher in children who attended their first dental appointment later (PR: 1.02; CI 95%: 1.01-1.03) and among those with high-free sugar consumption (PR: 1.90; CI 95%: 1.21-3.00). High sugar consumption and delay in the first dental appointment may increase the likelihood that children will experience dental pain.

A randomized controlled trial examining general parenting training and family-based behavioral treatment for childhood obesity: The ReFRESH study design

Family-based behavioral treatment (FBT) is one of the most effective treatments for childhood obesity. These programs include behavior change strategies and basic parenting training to help parents make healthy diet and physical activity changes for their children. While effective, not all families respond to this program. Additional training on how to effectively deliver these behavior change strategies may improve outcomes. The authoritative parenting style is associated with many positive academic and socio-emotional outcomes in children, and is characterized by displays of warmth and support while also being consistent with setting limits and boundaries. This parenting style has also been associated with normal weight status. Furthermore, parenting training programs that promote this parenting style for children with behavioral issues have shown unintended effects on decreasing child weight status. Therefore, our goal was to examine the effect of adding more intensive parenting training to FBT on child weight status. We randomized 140 children and their parent to either FBT or FBT + Parenting Training (FBT + PT). Assessments were conducted at baseline, mid-treatment (month 3), post-treatment (month 6), 6-month follow-up (month 12), and 12-month follow-up (month 18). Primary outcome was change in child weight status. Secondary outcomes were rates of drop-out, treatment adherence, and acceptability. If effective, this program may provide another alternative for families to help improve outcomes in childhood obesity management.

Authoritarian Parenting Practices on Korean Drama: Reception Analysis on SKY Castle

With a rating of 23.78%, the Korean drama "SKY Castle" had the highest rating amongst Korean dramas. Authoritarian parenting is discussed in this South Korean drama. 87% of students believe that they are in the wrong major, which expressed how this not only happened in South Korea but also in Indonesia. Authoritarian parents pressured them to join specific majors. This is a result of the stereotypes of majors in which parents hope will ensure students' success and financial stability. This authoritarian parenting style harms children’s mental health. The post-positivist perspective and the case study approach are both used in this descriptive qualitative study. In-depth interview data collecting and recording techniques, data validity techniques including construction validity, and pattern matching data analysis techniques are all used in this study. According to the study's findings, the audience's parents have preconceived notions about particular universities and majors, which have an effect on their children's mental health and relationships with their parents. It may be stated that viewers who were educated by authoritarian parents are in a negotiated position since each viewer has a unique viewpoint on authoritarian parenting in the Korean drama "SKY Castle" based on their own cultural background and experiences.

The effect and timing sensitivity of parenting style on cognitive and non‐cognitive skills

AbstractI exploit data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children and linked administrative data to study the effect of various parenting styles on a child's academic achievement and development of non‐cognitive skills at age 14. My results suggest the authoritative parenting style, characterised as disciplined but warm parenting, to be optimal for test scores, prosocial behaviour, and ability to focus. For test scores, I find a greater effect if this parenting style was applied 4 years prior rather than more recently. Conversely for non‐cognitive skills, I find a greater effect from contemporaneous parenting. The implication of my results is to encourage authoritative parenting from an early age but also highlight its continued importance in the present.
