Brain oscillatory responses were assessed in nine (mean age 15.0 years) adolescents with AS and in thirteen (mean age 14.4 years) healthy control subjects. Event-related desynchronization (ERD) and synchronization (ERS) of the 1–30 Hz EEG frequencies were studied while the subjects performed an auditory-verbal Sternberg memory task. On the behavioral level, the adolescents with AS and their healthy control subjects performed equally well on the memory task. However; statistically significant differences emerged between the groups in the brain oscillations especially in the alpha frequency band (~8-12Hz), during both encoding and recognition. The results indicate that brain oscillatory responses in the alpha frequency range in the encoding and in the recognition phase of auditory–verbal working memory may be affected in adolescents with AS Conference: 10th International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscience, Bodrum, Türkiye, 1 Sep - 5 Sep, 2008.
