The incidence and prevalence rates of heart failure are rising due to population, epidemiological and health transitions. Primordial prevention, which does not allow risk factors to appear in a population, affords a complete protection than a subsequent partial reversal of elevated risk factors or biomarkers. Teachers can play a major role in educating the students to accept a healthy lifestyle to prevent cardiac diseases at an earlier stage. Hence the investigator had taken up the study “Effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme on knowledge regarding Primordial Prevention of Cardiac Diseases among High School teachers in selected schools, Bangalore.” The objectives were to assess the knowledge regarding Primordial Prevention of Cardiac Diseases, evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme on knowledge regarding Primordial Prevention of Cardiac Diseases among high school teachers in selected schools, Bangalore and to find out the association between post-test knowledge regarding Primordial Prevention of Cardiac Diseases with their selected demographic variables. (Age in years, gender, religion, monthly income, educational status, teaching experience in years, class taught, type of family, dietary pattern, source of information, family history, habits, and area of living of high school teachers). Pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for this study. 40 high school teachers of Jyothi School, Bangalore were selected for the study using non-probability convenient sampling technique. The pre-test was administered using a structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge after which the video was presented. Post-test was done after 14 days using the same instrument. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study showed that the mean pre-test knowledge score 15.23+3.04 was less than the post-test knowledge score 22.55+ 2.72. The ‘t’ test value computed between the pre-test and post-test score was statistically significant at 0.05 level (t=28.820, df=39). The findings also denoted a significant correlation between the post-test knowledge and the demographic variables, age, monthly income, educational status and teaching experience in years of high school teachers. The teaching has made a commendable effect in improving the knowledge of high school teachers. A video presentation on different aspects of the primordial preventive measures of cardiac diseases is a useful strategy to improve their knowledge contributing to the prevention of cardiac diseases at the earlier stage.
