Dose-Related Mutagenic and Clastogenic Effects of Benzo[b]fluoranthene in Mouse Somatic Tissues Detected by Duplex Sequencing and the Micronucleus Assay.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common environmental pollutants that originate from the incomplete combustion of organic materials. We investigated the clastogenicity and mutagenicity of benzo[b]fluoranthene (BbF), one of 16 priority PAHs, in MutaMouse males after a 28 day oral exposure. BbF causes robust dose-dependent increases in micronucleus frequency in peripheral blood, indicative of chromosome damage. Duplex sequencing (DS), an error-corrected sequencing technology, reveals that BbF induces dose-dependent increases in mutation frequencies in bone marrow (BM) and liver. Mutagenicity is increased in intergenic relative to genic regions, suggesting a role for transcription-coupled repair of BbF-induced DNA damage. At higher doses, the maximum mutagenic response to BbF is higher in liver, which has a lower mitotic index but higher metabolic capacity than BM; however, mutagenic potency is comparable between the two tissues. BbF induces primarily C:G > A:T mutations, followed by C:G > T:A and C:G > G:C, indicating that BbF metabolites mainly target guanines and cytosines. The mutation spectrum of BbF correlates with cancer mutational signatures associated with tobacco exposure, supporting its contribution to the carcinogenicity of combustion-derived PAHs in humans. Overall, BbF's mutagenic effects are similar to benzo[a]pyrene, a well-studied mutagenic PAH. Our work showcases the utility of DS for effective mutagenicity assessment of environmental pollutants.

Chemometrically driven multiplexed metal ion detection using a triple emitting quantum dots-based nanoprobe.

Metal ion pollution poses a global concern due to its significant risks to both human health and environmental well-being. The toxicity of these ions can increase when they coexist, interacting with each other and with other harmful substances, even at low concentrations. Therefore, an accurate, rapid, and cost-effective methodology is urgently needed for the simultaneous quantification of multiple metal ions. This study presents a new approach for the multiplexed detection of various metal ions (Ag+, Cu2+, Hg2+, Al3+, Pb2+, Fe3+, Fe2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Cd2+, and Ca2+) using a triple-emission nanoprobe comprising carbon dots and distinctly capped CdTe quantum dots, specifically green-emitting glutathione -quantum dots and red-emitting 3-mercaptopropionic acid-quantum dots. The method achieved high accuracy by analysing first- and second-order photoluminescence data with distinct advanced chemometric tools. R2P values for partial least squares and unfolded partial least square models exceeding 0.9 for several metal ions at low concentrations (mmol L-1) were obtained. Additionally, PL second-order data yielded significantly better results than PL first-order data, attributed to the distinct behaviour of the metal ions over time. Interestingly, it was also noted for the first time the significant contribution of the molar ratio between the metal ions on the models' accuracy. This novel method provides a highly accurate and efficient way to detect multiple metal ions simultaneously, paving the way for improved environmental monitoring and pollution assessment. The utilization of the proposed method contributes to a better understanding of the complex interactions in mixed metal ion systems, allowing for earlier detection and mitigation of metal ion contamination threats.

Streamlined Flow Synthesis of Plasmonic Nanoparticles and SERS Detection of Uremic Toxins with Trace-Level Liquid Volumes in a Microchamber.

Rapid detection of uremic toxins is crucial due to their severe health risks, including oxidative stress, inflammation, neurotoxicity, cardiovascular complications, and progression of chronic kidney disease. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) may provide sensitive, fast, and clinical-grade real-time monitoring of these toxins, enabling effective management with timely dialysis treatments. This study introduces a 3D-printed microchamber that integrates the fabrication of plasmonic metal nanoparticles for the in-flow detection of biological toxins and pharmaceutical drugs using SERS, making it ideal for on-site diagnostics in clinical settings. The microchamber supports quantitative and highly reproducible detection with liquid volumes under 100 μL, which is crucial for trace-level biomarker detection and minimizing cross-contamination. It employs a tunable solvent exchange method for the in situ synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on flexible PDMS or rigid Si wafer substrates, avoiding costly nanofabrication techniques. Ultralow detection limits were achieved for two model compounds and three pharmaceutical drugs: 10-11 M for rhodamine 6G, 10-7 M for adenine, and 10-6 M for the pharmaceutical drugs. A total of 13 biological toxins, including three neurotransmitters, one neuromodulator, five amino acids, two polyamines, and two urea cycle metabolites, were detected with quantitative limits ranging from 10-3 to 10-6 M, all below permissible levels and aligning with physiological conditions. SERS detection within microchambers facilitates rapid on-site analysis, proving ideal for personalized health monitoring, point-of-care diagnostics, and environmental pollution assessment.

Visual aptasensor based on PtNPs/g-C3N4 and DNase I for the field detection of acetamiprid.

A visual aptasensor based on the combination of graphitic carbon nitride loaded with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs/g-C3N4) and deoxyribonuclease I (DNase I) was developed for detecting acetamiprid. The prepared PtNPs/g-C3N4 exhibited excellent peroxidase (POD)-like activity, demonstrating the capacity to oxidize the colourless o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to produce the coloured product diaminophenazine (DAP) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The DNA aptamer of acetamiprid can adsorb onto the surface of PtNPs/g-C3N4, thereby inhibiting its POD activity. The binding of acetamiprid to its aptamer results in the aptamer desorbing from the surface of PtNPs/g-C3N4 and subsequent digestion by DNase I. Ascribed to the synergistic effect of these factors, the aptasensor can achieve the rapid on-site detection of acetamiprid based on the acetamiprid-induced the colour change of the solution just with the smartphone. Furthermore, due to the remarkable fluorescence signal of DAP at 570nm, the aptasensor under fluorescence mode enables highly sensitive and quantitative detection of acetamiprid with a linear range of 1 ng/mL to 4µg/mL and a detection limit as low as 0.31 ng/mL.Theaptasensor has successfully realized the detection of acetamiprid in river water and cucumber samples, offering a novel perspective for the rapid assessment of environmental pollution and food safety risks associated with acetamiprid residues.

Ion-exchange chromatography in the assessment of environmental pollution with chlortetracycline

Chemical substances such as drugs pose a threat to the environment. One of the substances recorded in soil and water is chlortetracycline, an antibiotic used in veterinary medicine. Plants exposed to such xenobiotics show changes in the content of biogenic amines. An analytical technique - ion exchange chromatography is used to assess their content. The occurrence of these active compounds is used to determine the degree of environmental pollution with chemical substances. The study aimed to evaluate the toxicity of chlortetracycline (CTC) at concentrations of 0; 0.05; 0.1; 0.2 0.5;1; 2; 3; and 5 mM towards the test organism Lemna minor, and determine the content of biogenic amines in the plant tissues. The content of biogenic amines was analyzed by ion-exchange chromatography with post-column ninhydrin derivatization and photometric detection. The Lemna test proved that increasing concentrations of CTC had a toxic effect on the plants. It was calculated that the Lowest Observed Effects Concentration (LOEC) of CTC at >0.04 mM and >0.05 mM was phytotoxic to L. minor growth and yield. It was determined that the levels of histamine, tyramine, and cadaverine exhibited an increase, reaching 1.04, 1.90, and 3.10 µg g-1 of tissue at 2.00 mM CTC. Simultaneously, spermine and putrescine increased to 1.21 and 3.89 µg g-1 of tissue at concentrations of 0.10 and 0.50 mM of the drug. Conversely, the study revealed an over 88 % reduction in spermidine in plants at 5 mM of CTC. Using ion-exchange chromatography, analysis of biogenic amines, particularly spermidine and cadaverine, highlighted these intra-tissue compounds as sensitive biomarkers for water contamination with the tested drug. This research confirmed that the Lemna test is effective for assessing CTC toxicity and that ion-exchange chromatography is useful for evaluating environmental pollution by this antibiotic.

Assessment of Environmental Pollutants and their Relationship with Chronic Respiratory Disease Exacerbations in Jamshoro: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: COPD and Asthma are a burden to our society and in a city like Jamshoro having industries and power plants in close vicinity, this becomes a greater concern. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the relationship between air quality indices (AQIs) and exacerbations in chronic obstructive respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD, prevalent among the general population in Jamshoro. Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted from August 2023 to February 2024 at LUMHS, Jamshoro (ERC approval: 14287/23/081), used purposive sampling to recruit 300 adults with asthma or COPD. Air quality data (PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2) were collected, and respiratory outcomes were measured via spirometry and a validated questionnaire. Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression analyzed the association between air quality and exacerbations. Ethical approval and informed consent were obtained. Results: There was a significant inverse relationship between PM10, NO2, and FEV1 (r = -0.45, p < 0.01; r = -0.40, p < 0.01). Chi-square analysis indicated a strong association between AQI categories and exacerbation rates (χ² = 25.6, df = 3, p < 0.001). Multiple regression showed that PM10 and NO2 were significant independent predictors of respiratory exacerbation (β = 0.049, p < 0.01; β = 0.038, p < 0.01). Conclusion: The study underscores the adverse respiratory health consequences of poor air quality in Jamshoro and recommends the implementation of effective air quality management policies.

Innovative approach for environmental pollution assessment using seabird eggs: mercury in black-tailed gull (Larus crassirostris) eggs from the Korean islands (2012−2021)

Since black-tailed gulls derive energy for egg production around their habitat, analyzing concentration of chemicals in the eggs reveals the local environmental pollution. This is, however, complex due to the diversity of seabird diets across multiple ecosystems. This study determined the influence of food source and trophic position (TP) on the mercury concentration ([Hg]) in eggs and subsequently mitigated these influences by adjusting through [Hg]-TP relationship, thereby enabling spatial and temporal comparisons among individuals. Following TP adjustment, the [Hg] that previously exhibited significant regional differences no longer displayed such a variation. Moreover, by normalizing to trophic level 4, as suggested by the European Union (EU), the total [Hg] was standardized from 1001 ± 415 ng g−1 to 1347 ± 516 ng g−1 in all the egg samples, far exceeding the EU criteria. These two approaches provide valuable insights for the effective monitoring of marine pollution and past environmental reconstruction by adjusting/normalizing [Hg] in seabird eggs.

Three-dimensional intelligent monitoring and early warning technology for tailings ponds based on spatiotemporal fusion of multisource big data.

To solve the difficult problems of tailings dam instability and environmental pollution, multisource information perception, prediction and early warning technology for tailings dams are investigated. Taking a tailings pond in China as an example, a three-dimensional visualization intelligent management platform based on the spatiotemporal fusion of multisource big data is established to realize intelligent real-time monitoring, prediction and early warning of tailings dams. A monitoring system for air-space-ground integration was developed via high-resolution optical image recording, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), radar, video surveillance and displacement sensors. This approach can realize pollution monitoring and efficient identification of high-risk areas. In addition, a machine learning algorithm is used to mine spatiotemporal data in detail. The Alibaba cloud platform was adopted to develop a data integration framework. Multisensor spatiotemporal data from tailings dams and multisource monitoring data from the environment were integrated. The integrated management of tailings dam environmental monitoring, pollution and stability assessment is realized. A stability prediction model for tailings dams based on multisource data is proposed. The temporal and spatial information of various forms of data is analysed from multiple levels and perspectives. Rapid prediction of the disaster situation and stability of tailings ponds is realized. Moreover, a tailings pollution assessment model based on a neural network is integrated with multisource information to establish a multifactor environmental pollution neural network assessment model and a multilevel warning platform. This work can provide technical support for intelligent monitoring and early warning systems for tailings ponds.

A Comprehensive Evaluation Method for Environmental Pollution in Tourist Attractions Based on Improved Principle Component Analysis

In order to address the problem of the reliability of current environmental pollution assessment methods, a comprehensive assessment method of environmental pollution in tourist scenic spots based on improved principle component analysis was proposed. First air, water, and soil pollution for data tourist attractions in the top 5 metropolitan cities of India are collected. Then, the original pollution data is cleaned, the data clustering method is used to classify the pollution data, and the comprehensive evaluation index system of environmental pollution in tourist attractions is established. Finally, the comprehensive evaluation method is implemented to calculate the evaluation values of various indicators, and the comprehensive assessment results of pollution at tourist attractions are obtained. The experimental results show that the correlation of the evaluation index is always controlled above 0.90, the convergence rate of the method is fast, the optimal solution can be approached within 150 iterations, and the application effect is good.

Multidimensional Approach for the Assessment of Environmental Pollution and Health Risk Associated With V, Ni, Cr, Cu, and Zn in the Recent Sediments of Kabini Interstate River, Southeastern Western Ghats, India

ABSTRACTThe present work intends to study the variation of heavy metals (HMs) to scrutinize the scenario of pollution index and associated environmental risk, as well as source weathering conditions along the Kabini River. The decreasing order of concentration of HMs along the basin is Cr > V > Ni > Zn > Cu. The paper spotlights the pollution grade in sediments, assessed by the geo‐accumulation index (Igeo), contamination factor (Cf), pollution load index (PLI), and enrichment factor (Ef). The assessment of ecological risk is studied as potential ecological risk index (RI), toxic risk index (TRI), and modified hazard quotients (mHQs). As per the Igeo and Cf, V and Cr concentrations are higher in the region. Further, PLI confirmed that 35% of samples exceeded the limits of sediment quality guidelines. The RI and TRI values show that a higher ecological risk is associated with Ni, V, and Cr and with Cu and Cr, respectively. Additionally, the 23% Ni and 20% Cu samples from mHQ indicate the severity of pollution in the aquatic environment. The inputs from anthropogenic and natural sources change the concentration of these HMs along the region. Moreover, the study of CIA and plagioclase index of alteration plots confirmed the low to intense weathering conditions. The statistical approach shows the linkage between Cr–V, Cu–Zn, and principal component analysis–derived prominent sources: industrial and agricultural runoff, as well as higher silicate weathering, contribute to the HMs concentration in the region. The Kabini River passes through different climatic and land‐use domains of Kerala and Karnataka, which eventually regulate the HM concentration and geo‐environmental processes in the region and affect the health risk to humans in one or the other way. The reference data generated from the present work are absolutely new and would be significant in the future for deriving sustainable development plans for the well‐being of human beings and precious natural resources.

Synergistic assessment of environmental pollutants and carbon emissions in the Yellow River Basin, China: An integrated study based on scenario simulation and process decomposition

Environmental pollutants (EP) and carbon emissions (CE) generated by fossil fuel combustion have the same root and origin, but the synergistic effect of EP and CE in specific management is not clear. This study develops a systematic method to evaluate the synergistic effect of EP and CE, which combines the EP-CE synergy performance under different scenarios and the process decomposition of “source prevention-process control-terminal output” based on the construction of the EP-CE synergy performance assessment, and forms a complete chain of EP-CE synergy performance assessment under the system view of ecological civilization. Furthermore, the synergy of EP and CE in 79 prefecture-level cities of the Yellow River Basin (YRB) is evaluated as an example. Results show that: (1) The overall EP-CE synergy performance in the YRB is in the transition to high-quality development, and the EP-CE synergy performance of each reaches show the evolution of “the lower the performance, the faster the progress”; (2) The EP-CE synergy performance under the scenario of collaborative pollution control and carbon reduction is significantly higher than those of separate pollution control, separate carbon reduction, or no consideration of environmental constraints, and there are noticeable spatial differences, with the upper reaches having the highest EP-CE synergy performance; (3) The EP-CE synergy performances among the different process decomposition in the YRB needs to be strengthened. The process control had the highest overall performance level, but the inclusion of environmental factors could significantly decrease the performance level, while the opposite is exact for the terminal output. The study provides a multi-scenario and process decomposition approach to assess the synergistic effects of EP and CE, and the scenario simulation assessment, process decomposition analysis, and synergistic control recommendations can be used as references for other regions or countries suffering from both EP and CE to formulate environmentally synergistic management development strategies and improve ecological quality according to local conditions.

Is pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) a good plant species for ecotoxicological tests?

Various plant species can be selected for environmental testing, including pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br), a globally significant cereal crop. This study aims to assess millet's suitability as a species for ecotoxicological tests, examining (1) germination and initial development dynamics, (2) the minimum seed quantity for reliable sampling, (3) optimal experimental design with replication numbers, (4) suitability of positive control, and (5) the effectiveness of the protocol in evaluating toxic effects of environmental pollutants. Millet exhibited rapid and uniform germination as well as consistent initial seedling development. To establish the minimum number of seeds required for reliable experimentation, germination, and seedling growth were compared across plots containing 10, 25, and 50 seeds. Consequently, 10 seeds per plot were chosen for subsequent experiments to reduce labor and costs while maintaining reliability. To validate the selected experimental design, and to establish a positive control for assays, aluminum was used as a toxic element at concentrations ranging from 10-2 to 10-6 M. While aluminum did not affect the final percentage of germinated seeds, it did exhibit an impact on the Germination Speed Index (GSI). Significant differences in root and aerial growth, and with fresh weight, were observed. The 10-3M concentration was chosen as the positive control as the 10-2 concentration showed extreme toxicity. To assess the applicability of the established protocol in determining the toxic effects of environmental pollutants, millet roots were exposed to the toxic agents atrazine, cadmium, methyl methane sulfonate (MMS), and Spent pot liner (SPL). Millet demonstrated sensitivity and efficiency in response to these tests. In conclusion, millet proves to be an effective species for the toxicological risk assessment of environmental pollutants.

Trace Elements in Stenella coeruleoalba: Assessment of Marine Environmental Pollution and Dolphin Health Status.

Heavy metals are environmental contaminants and can easily accumulate and biomagnify in various marine species (fishes and mammalians) at the top of the aquatic food chain. Among marine mammalians, the striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) is the most abundant cetacean in the Mediterranean Sea and is considered to be a sentinel species to monitor the environmental marine pollution. In this study, the contents of toxic metals and metalloids (Cd, Pb, Hg, and As), micro-elements (Ni, Cr, Cu, Fe, Co, Mn, Se and Zn) and macro-elements (Na, Ca, K, Mg and P) were evaluated by ICP-MS analysis in several organs/tissues (lung, skin, muscle and liver) of Stenella coeruleoalba. The assessment of marine environmental pollution and dolphins health status was carried out through further analysis of the same specific parameters such as the metal pollution index (MPI) and coefficient of condition (K). Finally, the correlation between toxic metals and metalloids and essential micro-elements, expressed as molar ratios, was analyzed to evaluate the detoxifying ability (effectiveness) of Zn, Se and Cu. Data obtained showed the presence of toxic metals and metalloids analyzed in the Stenella coeruleoalba samples but the MPI values suggested a low environmental contamination of the Mediterranean Sea where dolphins lived. The content of micro- and macro-elements was found to be in a normal range for this species and predictive of dolphins good health status, as confirmed by the coefficient of condition K. However, the correlation between toxic and essential metals, expressed as molar ratios, showed that the following toxic metals cannot be detoxified by the essential metals: 66Zn/201Hg, 82Se/201Hg, 63Cu/201Hg and 66Zn/52Cr, 82Se/52Cr, 63Cu/52Cr. Therefore, this study highlights the key role of dolphin Stenella coeruleoalba to assess marine pollution and the importance of analyzing the complete mineral profile to evaluate the animal health status.

Specific CpG sites methylation is associated with hematotoxicity in low-dose benzene-exposed workers

Benzene is a broadly used industrial chemicals which causes various hematologic abnormalities in human. Altered DNA methylation has been proposed as epigenetic biomarkers in health risk evaluation of benzene exposure, yet the role of methylation at specific CpG sites in predicting hematological effects remains unclear. In this study, we recruited 120 low-level benzene-exposed and 101 control male workers from a petrochemical factory in Maoming City, Guangdong Province, China. Urinary S-phenylmercapturic acid (SPMA) in benzene-exposed workers was 3.40-fold higher than that in control workers (P < 0.001). Benzene-induced hematotoxicity was characterized by reduced white blood cells counts and nuclear division index (NDI), along with an increased DNA damage and urinary 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (all P < 0.05). Methylation levels of TRIM36, MGMT and RASSF1a genes in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLCs) were quantified by pyrosequencing. CpG site 6 of TRIM36, CpG site 2, 4, 6 of RASSF1a and CpG site 1, 3 of MGMT methylation were recognized as hot CpG sites due to a strong correlation with both internal exposure and hematological effects. Notably, integrating hot CpG sites methylation of multiple genes reveal a higher efficiency in prediction of integrative damage compared to individual genes at hot CpG sites. The negative dose–response relationship between the combined methylation of hot CpG sites in three genes and integrative damage enabled the classification of benzene-exposed individuals into high-risk or low-risk groups using the median cut-off value of the integrative index. Subsequently, a prediction model for integrative damage in benzene-exposed populations was built based on the methylation status of the identified hot CpG sites in the three genes. Taken together, these findings provide a novel insight into application prospect of specific CpG site methylation as epi-biomarkers for health risk assessment of environmental pollutants.

Assessment of environmental odor pollution using a dispersion model in an industrialized urban area of Kocaeli, Turkey

AbstractThe main goal of the present study was to highlight how crucial odor evaluation methods may be for raising the general standard of living in a region. For this, the dispersion of odor concentrations detected by an olfactometric method in an area of Kocaeli, Turkey, where odor problems are frequently experienced, was investigated using the AERMOD atmospheric dispersion modeling system. According to the findings of the olfactometric measurement, the mean odor concentrations in the industrial area was high at 1342 OU m–3, while in the residential areas the values were lower, at 578 OU m–3 within the selected study area. As a result of the modeling study, the maximum odor concentration was 2081 OU m–3 at the 1 h. The model also showed that the coordinate points where the maximum odor concentration was observed changed with time, and that the concentrations recorded at the 1 h may decrease by as much as 88%–91% at the 24 h. In the study, a survey was also conducted to identify possible effects of odor pollution on people. The survey findings showed a statistically significant difference (p &lt; 0.05) between the two areas (industrial and residential) for seven variables of a total 28. We suggest that measuring odor concentrations, modeling their distribution, and conducting surveys are effective methods when managing the urban planning process.

Prospects of the development and harmonization of hygienic standardization taking into account the risk of odour in the ambient air

Introduction. The presence of a specific odour in the ambient air in the areas where various enterprises are located with formal compliance with environmental legislation indicates the need to update the methodology of hygienic standardization of odourous substances.&#x0D; The purpose of the work is to analyze modern methods of the establishment of standards for odourous complex multicomponent mixtures of substances in the atmospheric air and substantiate ways to harmonize them in this field of knowledge.&#x0D; Materials and methods. The paper systematizes existing approaches to regulating the quality of atmospheric air in areas where odourous emissions sources are located, taking into account certain provisions of regulatory and methodological documents, publications on approaches, and criteria for quantitative sanitary and hygienic assessment of the quality of the environment and public health, as well as the authors’ long-term experience in this field.&#x0D; Results. The basic principles of hygienic standardization of the permissible content of odorous mixtures of substances in the atmospheric air taking into account their odour are formulated. The substantiation of hygienic standards is carried out with the allocation of substances identified as priority (indicator), based on the results of studying the production technology and the formation of emissions, olfactory properties of the mixture under experimental conditions, with the possibility of monitoring the established standard in atmospheric air by certified instrumental methods of analysis.&#x0D; Limitations. The limitations of the study are due to the fact that this article does not fully reflect the issues of the development of the entire atmospheric air quality management system taking into account the risk of odour outside the focus of this work, which will be covered in the preparation of the following articles.&#x0D; Conclusion. The ongoing process of harmonization of domestic and foreign approaches used in hygienic standardization including the field of regulation of atmospheric air pollution by specific odours makes it necessary to significantly expand approaches to the issues of rationing and assessment of environmental pollution by complex multicomponent emissions of odour-source enterprises taking into account modern experience.

Over the last 30 years, the study of biomarkers has experienced significant growth. Biomarkers serve as essential tools in monitoring toxicology and risk assessment of environmental pollutants by providing early and specific endpoints. This expansion in the field has enabled researchers to better understand the impact of various environmental pollutants on living organisms and ecosystems. By utilizing biomarkers, scientists can assess the potential risks posed by these pollutants and develop effective strategies for environmental protection and preservation. This article briefly reviews some of the aspects in an attempt to give an overall view of the field. Some of the new developments, particularly in relation to biomarkers of exposure and response, are mentioned.

COMPLEX ASSESSMENT OF POLLUTION ZONES IN EXTREME SITUATIONS AT ENERGY FACILITIES

Problem statement. The task of forecasting damage zones under various types of man-made load in the event of an extreme situation at a gas station is considered. Comprehensive forecasting includes the determination of areas of chemical, thermal and mechanical contamination in the event of an extreme situation at a gas station. The purpose of the article. Development of a theoretical toolkit and a package of programs for complex forecasting of chemical, thermal and chemical environmental pollution zones in the event of an extreme situation at a gas station. Methodology. Forecasting of zones of chemical, thermal and mechanical pollution of the environment in the event of an extreme situation at a gas station uses the fundamental equations of the mechanics of a solid environment: the mass transfer equation is used to calculate zones of chemical pollution; the energy equation is used to determine the zones of thermal pollution of the atmospheric air; Newton's second law is used to calculate mechanical contamination zones. Integration of modeling equations is carried out numerically. A specialized package of programs for comprehensive forecasting of environmental pollution has been created. Scientific novelty. A specialized package of programs based on developed numerical models is proposed for the assessment of chemical, thermal and mechanical pollution zones that arise in the event of an extreme situation at a gas station. On the basis of the developed numerical models, an assessment of complex environmental pollution during an extreme situation at a gas station in the city of Dnipro was carried out. Practical significance. The developed numerical models are implemented in the form of a package of application programs with a wide working range. The program package is focused on solving problems in the field of environmental safety and occupational health and safety. Determining the zones of chemical, thermal and mechanical pollution of the environment with the help of the developed program package will be important in the development of the plan for localization and liquidation of emergency situations and accidents. Conclusions. An effective tool for theoretical analysis of pollution zones formed during an extreme situation at gas stations has been created. The results of computational experiments are presented.
