Assessment of Nurses' Job Satisfaction and Associated Factors in Management of Neurosurgery Procedures at Fujita Health University Bantane Hospital (Aichi, Nagoya, Japan).

Introduction Job satisfaction is a professional aspect that contributes to the achievement of objectives in general and in the health sector; it is a golden standard for having quality care. The satisfaction of nurses is a path toward humanized nursing. This article aims to evaluate the job satisfaction among nurses of the neurosurgery department at Bantane Hospital. Materials and Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study including 74 nurses at Bantane Hospital in Nagoya Japan in August 2023. Nurses responded to a questionnaire relating to job satisfaction. Univariate analysis was supported by bivariate analyses at the 95% significance level. Results The survey revealed that nurses aged between 18 and 29 were mostly represented (62.2%). Drip-injection medication was the most preferred activity (15 times) by Bantane nurses. The satisfaction rate was 63.5% and the fact of considering nurses point of view, good interpersonal relationships, and a considerable lunchtime period was statistically significant ( p < 0.05). Conclusion Transcendental motivation is a priority in the approach to humanize nursing by considering both monetary and nonmonetary incentives to motivate nurses.

Critical Knowledge Gaps in Iraqi Nurses' Understanding of Antihypertensive Drug Risks

Background: Poor adherence to antihypertensive medications and persistently elevated blood pressure contribute significantly to cardiovascular events, increased hospitalizations, and premature mortality. Specific Background: Adverse effects of antihypertensive medications, such as cough, dizziness, and increased urination, often lead to non-adherence, exacerbating these health risks. Knowledge Gap: There is limited understanding of nurses' knowledge regarding the adverse effects of antihypertensive medications, particularly in developing regions. Aims: This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of nurses in Basra, Iraq, about the adverse effects of antihypertensive medications and to identify areas needing improvement. Results: Seventy nurses (both male and female) from various hospitals in Basra participated in a questionnaire. Findings revealed that only 49.78% of nurses were confident in their knowledge about the adverse effects of these medications, 20% did not know the answers, and 25.9% were unsure. The overall mean score was significant (2.27), indicating insufficient knowledge. Novelty: This study provides the first detailed assessment of nurses' understanding of antihypertensive medication adverse effects in Basra, highlighting a critical gap in knowledge and the need for targeted educational interventions. Implications: Enhancing academic and practical training for nurses is essential to improve patient care and adherence to hypertension treatments. Future research should focus on developing and implementing educational programs and continuous assessment frameworks to ensure nurses are well-equipped to manage and communicate the adverse effects of antihypertensive medications. By addressing these gaps, healthcare providers can better support patients in adhering to their treatment regimens, ultimately reducing cardiovascular risks and improving patient outcomes. Nurses’ intention to care of COVID-19 patients in hospitals dedicated to infectious disease in South Korea: application of the theory of planned behavior and verification of the moderating effect of ethical nursing competence

BackgroundThe theory of planned behavior is a conceptual framework of recent studies to identify and explain nurses’ intentions to care for patients with emerging infectious diseases. However, correlations between behavioral intentions and variables that explain them have been inconsistent in previous studies. The influence of new variables might be considered in this case. This study aimed to determine moderating effects of ethical nursing competence on nurses’ intention to care for COVID-19 patients in hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases based on the theory of planned behavior.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted. Data on intention to care for COVID-19 patients, perceived behavioral control, attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm, and ethical nursing competence were obtained from 190 nurses in three hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases in South Korea. The moderating effect of ethical nursing competence was analyzed using model I of PROCESS Macro. Ethical considerations: This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Ulsan University Hospital, South Korea. Written informed consent was obtained from each subject.ResultsThe ethical nursing competence was a significant moderator in the relation between perceived behavioral control and the intention to care (B = 0.36, t = 2.16, p = 0.032). Ethical nursing competence did not have a significant interaction with attitude toward behavior or subjective norm.ConclusionsThis study showed that the higher the ethical nursing competence level, the greater the effect of perceived behavioral control on nurses’ intention to care for COVID-19 patients. Promoting ethical nursing competence is necessary for nurses who would take care of patients at the frontline of the infectious disease pandemic. Nursing managers should include ethical nursing competence in the assessment of nurses’ competence and design educational programs to enhance ethical nursing competence for efficient nursing staffing during a pandemic.

Assessment of Nurses' Perception toward Application of Evidence Based Practice Approach

Background Evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP) has become one of the most effective methods for improving patient outcomes and the quality of care as well as delivering cost-efficient health care. Nurses' perspectives are critical to the successful adoption of evidence -based practice. While positive views regarding EBP serve as a foundation for developing appropriate nursing approaches to improve patient care, there is a noticeable gap between belief in evidence-based practice advantages and actual implementation. Objective : To assess nurses’ perception toward the application of an evidence-based practice approach. Methods : A non-probability using a convenience sampling. Data were collected through self administered questionnaire technique for data collection, which is constructed through the extensive review of the related literature that consisted of two assessment parts first one consist of demographic data, and the second part of the assessment tool is concerned with assessing the nurse's perception scale which include three parts, the first part contains (4) statement, the second part contains (3) statement and the last part contains (2) statement developed by Majid et al (2011). The reliability of the instrument was the Cronbach alpha of perception section was between 0.68 to 0.95, and the face validity of the study instruments was determined by a panel of (12) experts in the Nursing and Medicine fields, and science of psychology, All the experts agreed that the instrument is valid with some suggested modifications. Data were analyzed through the application of frequency, percentage and the inferential statistical analysis approach is used to test the study null hypotheses within a confidence interval equal to 0.95(Chi-square which is used to determine the association between nurses' perception and demographic data). Such analyses are computed by using the SPSS program version 24. Results : The findings indicate that the total assessment of perception about application of evidence-based practice approach about (39.54%) of the nurses have poor perception of evidence-based practice,(51.23 %) of them have moderate perception; while (9.32 %) of them have good levels according to the total assessment of perception about evidence-based practice. Conclusion: According to the study results and discussion half of nurses have good perception toward application of evidence based practice approach when assessed by the statistical analysis.

Factors Affecting the Performance of Inpatient Nurses at RSU Bina Kasih Medan in 2023

Nurses are a key factor in improving the quality of services in hospitals because they have a vital role in providing care and support to patients. However, the assessment of nurses' performance showed that the results were not optimal, with achievement only reaching 47%. This can hurt the quality of hospital services. This study aims to identify and analyze factors that influence the performance of inpatient nurses at Bina Kasih Hospital, Medan. The research method used is cross-sectional with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 74 inpatient nurses selected using total sampling techniques. Data analysis was carried out through univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression tests. The results of the analysis show that workload, work stress, work environment, work intensity, and compensation have a significant effect on the performance of inpatient nurses at Bina Kasih Hospital, Medan (p &lt; 0.05). The implication of this research is the importance of hospital management to pay attention to these factors to improve nurse performance and service quality in hospitals.

Application of Foot Massage Therapy to Reduce Pain Scale of Old Age with Rheumatoid Arthritis in Perumnas Public Health Center Working Area Lubuklinggau City 2023

Arthritis in RA patients causes pain, swelling, and decreased joint range of motion. It can lead to decreased independence and limited activities, reducing the quality of life. The process of foot massage also impacts the process of vasodilation and increased blood circulation. It increases the activity of the autonomic nervous system, which stimulates increased production of endorphins, which is expected to reduce pain. The case study used a descriptive method with two old older adults with Rheumatoid Arthritis, using the family nursing care assessment and pain scale assessment. The application of foot messages is carried out for 20 minutes for three days. After applying foot massage for three consecutive days, the study showed a decrease in pain intensity between before and after the intervention was given to the two subjects. The subject's pain intensity decreased from moderate pain intensity to mild pain. Applying foot massage effectively reduces the intensity of Rheumatoid Arthritis pain.

Nursing Experience Caring for a Premature Infant With Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

A nursing experience supporting parents experiencing anxiety related to their 26+2 weeks preterm infant on continued ventilator assistance at home due to bronchopulmonary dysplasia is described in this article. Data were collected from March 21st to June 1st, 2021 via observation, interviews, clinical care, medical record reviews, and discharge preparation services. A holistic nursing assessment identified the main health issues as: gas exchange disorder, inefficient infant feeding patterns, and caregiver role stress. The parents were encouraged to participate in care activities, create individualized discharge plans, and view health education videos and caregiving skill demonstrations. Kangaroo care, comfortable positioning and soothing techniques were used to stabilize the emotions of the infant and to strengthen the parent-child bond. Psychological support was provided to alleviate parental anxiety and to enhance parenting ability and confidence. This experience supports the importance of tailoring clinical care to individual needs, adopting a family-centered approach, assessing family interactions, and making early preparations to obtain appropriate continuous care after discharge to ensure proper continuum of care.

Dyspnea management in patients with pneumonia and coronary artery disease: A case study

Background: Cardiovascular disease, particularly Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), is strongly linked to pneumonia. Patients suffering from both pneumonia and CAD frequently experience dyspnea as a symptom. Dyspnea, caused by both conditions, can significantly impact the patient's quality of life. Consequently, it is crucial to address and manage dyspnea in individuals with pneumonia and CAD. Purpose: To provide a thorough overview of managing dyspnea in patients with pneumonia and CAD in public hospitals in West Java, Indonesia. Method: Employing a case study methodology using a nursing care approach, encompassing nursing assessment, data analysis, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. The assessment indicated that the patient experienced shortness of breath, with a blood pressure of 145/86 mmHg, a respiratory rate of 24 breaths per minute, a pulse rate of 95 beats per minute, and an oxygen saturation level of 88%. The patient received 5 liters per minute of oxygen via a nasal cannula, and their body temperature measured 36.4ºC. Results: In this case study, dyspnea management involved positioning the patient, administering oxygen therapy in stages, and providing pharmacological treatments, including diuretics and antibiotics. Additional therapies included respiratory muscle training and effective cough exercises. These interventions successfully reduced the patient's respiratory rate to 18 breaths per minute and increased their oxygen saturation to 97% with a nasal cannula. Additionally, the patient's Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnea scale score decreased to 1 out of 5. Conclusion: Nursing care management that includes positioning the patient in a semi-Fowler's position while resting and a Fowler's position when awake, administering oxygen therapy in stages, providing pharmacological treatments such as diuretics and antibiotics, and conducting respiratory muscle training, can lower the breathing rate and alleviate symptoms of shortness of breath in patients with pneumonia and coronary artery disease.

Telemedicine entrustable professional activities for nurses in long-term care: A modified Delphi study

BackgroundAs the use of telemedicine proliferates in community care, it is essential to ensure practice recommendations and guidelines are available to assist healthcare providers in providing telemedicine-based care. This study aimed to develop entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for nursing home nurses involved in telemedicine consultations. AimTo develop entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for nursing home nurses involved in telemedicine consultations. DesignModified Delphi study. MethodsThe study was conducted in two stages. First, content analysis of 28 healthcare provider interviews and literature review on telemedicine competencies was conducted to develop an initial list of EPAs. An expert workgroup comprising of an international panel of academics and clinicians reviewed the activities. In the second stage, a three-round e-Delphi technique was used to develop telemedicine EPAs for nurses in long-term care. Descriptive statistics and qualitative feedback were distributed to participants after each round. Agreement within survey rounds was computed. ResultsSix core telemedicine EPAs with 28 descriptors were developed, from preparing the resident for the teleconsultation encounter to follow-up care post-teleconsultation. Agreement coefficients were high across all Delphi rounds. ConclusionThis study identifies the core functions that long-term care nurses' are expected to perform in telemedicine consultations. The internationally relevant EPAs are sufficiently broad to be adapted to design telemedicine training and workplace-based assessment for nurses. Organisations may utilise the EPAs as a resource during the implementation process of telemedicine services in long-term care in designing nursing workflow and complement the learning and development of nurses for telemedicine services. Equipping long-term care nurses with this resource can ensure consistency, patient safety and quality of teleconsultations delivered to nursing home residents. However, further work is required to expand the EPAs for application to practice.

Assessment of Nurses’ Knowledge, Attitude and Practice Regarding Physical Restraint: A Scoping Review

The use of physical restraints (PR) in healthcare settings, especially in psychiatric units, is a controversial topic. The attitude, knowledge, and practices of nurses towards PR can influence its application, which raises concerns about the balance between patient safety and individual rights. With mental disorders being a leading cause of disability globally, understanding the complexities surrounding PR use becomes paramount. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using multiple databases, including PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO, ProQuest, The Cochrane Library, the Saudi Digital Library, and Google Scholar. The search spanned literature published up to December 2022, focusing on studies that explored the relationship between nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding PR in psychiatric settings. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to filter out relevant studies. From 220 records initially retrieved, 12 articles were identified for the final review. The reviewed studies highlighted a moderate knowledge and attitude among nurses concerning PR. Many nurses were found to be uncertain about the reasons for PR application and its alternatives. Educational interventions were emphasized in several studies as beneficial in improving nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices. However, inconsistencies were observed regarding the impact of these interventions on nurses’ attitudes. Experience, higher education, and continuous training sessions were found to be correlated with better knowledge and more favourable attitudes towards PR. This review emphasizes the critical need for consistent training and education for nurses regarding PR, given the profound implications for patient care and safety. While educational interventions show promise in enhancing knowledge and practice, their impact on attitudes remains contested. Future research should consider the gaps identified in this review, including the exploration of alternatives to PR, larger sample sizes and longitudinal studies to understand the long-term effects of interventions.

Assessment of Nurse’s Knowledge Regarding Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Laâyoune City, Morocco

Background: Diabetic ketoacidosis represents a life-threatening complication of diabetes, standing as the foremost cause of mortality associated with the condition. The proficient management of patients suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis hinges upon the expertise and proficiency of nurses, who play a pivotal role in the comprehensive care and treatment of these individuals. Aim: The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge of nurses in the Department of Medicine and Intensive Care Unit at Moulay El Hassan Ben El Mehdi Hospital concerning the biological and clinical parameters, as well as the management protocols, for patients diagnosed with DKA. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to nurses working in both the Department of Medicine (n=8) and the Intensive Care Unit (n=10) at Moulay El Hassan Ben El Mehdi Hospital in Laâyoune. The questionnaire included variables covering demographic characteristics, clinical information, and biological parameters. Results: The majority of nurses (88.8%) demonstrated adequate knowledge regarding the definition of DKA, with most nurses in both departments displaying familiarity with the biological and clinical manifestations of the condition. In terms of management practices, all nurses reported utilizing saline solution or glucose serum based on the patient's blood glucose levels. Conclusion: The study suggests the implementation of standardized educational programs within intensive care units to enhance nurse staffing, improve the level of patient care, and elevate the quality of care delivered to this patient demographic.

Exploring Undergraduate Nursing Students’ Preferences in Psychiatric Nursing Simulation Modalities

Background The use of high-fidelity simulators (manikins) and standardized patients (SPs) in simulation has been incorporated into many nursing schools throughout the nation to augment the clinical rotation experience. There is little to no data available on comparing undergraduate students’ preferences between SPs and manikins in psychiatric nursing. Methods A quantitative descriptive exploratory design was used to evaluate pre-licensure nursing students’ preferences in both traditional 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and accelerated BSN programs (ABSN). Results Overall, students preferred having an SP over a manikin to learn how to properly perform a nursing assessment on a psychiatric patient. Conclusions Standardized patients offer a more realistic experience when assessing various domains of the mental status examination and when practicing therapeutic communication techniques in psychiatric nursing. The growth of SP training programs should be fostered. Well-trained SPs are an asset to simulation, especially in psychiatric nursing.

Root Cause Identification of Incomplete Medical Records Filing in Outpatient Clinic at Hospital X Malang City

Completeness of medical records is one indicator of the quality of health services in hospitals. The completeness of medical records at X Hospital still does not meet the national standards that have been set. The purpose of this study was to identify the root cause of the incompleteness of the outpatient medical record document at Hospital X Malang City. This study used a descriptive research design by reviewing medical record documents and FGDs. Document review was conducted on 111 medical records taken by random sampling. Identification of the root of the problem is carried out through FGD activities by applying the 5 Why's. The results of the FGD showed that there were three factors that contributed to the incompleteness of medical records at X Hospital, namely humans, machines, and methods. The root of the problems identified were not having electronic medical records, the number of patients was not proportional to the allocation of time for doctor's services, medical and nursing assessment sheets were combined into 1 sheet, lack of knowledge of doctor assistants, and quality indicators and telemedicine SOPs that were still not differentiated from outpatient clinics.

An example of leveraging AI for documentation: ChatGPT-generated nursing care plan for an older adult with lung cancer.

Our article demonstrates the effectiveness of using a validated framework to create a ChatGPT prompt that generates valid nursing care plan suggestions for one hypothetical older patient with lung cancer. This study describes the methodology for creating ChatGPT prompts that generate consistent care plan suggestions and its application for a lung cancer case scenario. After entering a nursing assessment of the patient's condition into ChatGPT, we asked it to generate care plan suggestions. Subsequently, we assessed the quality of the care plans produced by ChatGPT. While not all the suggested care plan terms (11 out of 16) utilized standardized nursing terminology, the ChatGPT-generated care plan closely matched the gold standard in scope and nature, correctly prioritizing oxygenation and ventilation needs. Using a validated framework prompt to generate nursing care plan suggestions with ChatGPT demonstrates its potential value as a decision support tool for optimizing cancer care documentation.

Perioperative Nursing Considerations for Transurethral Resection Prostatectomy

The present article was an overview of transurethral resection prostatectomy (TURP) and its prevalence, emphasizing the critical role of perioperative nursing in enhancing patient safety and outcomes. Preoperative nursing assessment was explored, covering the importance of patient history and risk assessment, diagnostic tests and evaluations, patient counseling, and informed consent, as well as preoperative optimization and preparation. The intraoperative nursing management section outlines key responsibilities in setting up the operating room, maintaining infection control, preventing specific clinical risk of TURP, managing anesthesia, ensuring surgical team coordination and communication, and adhering to evidence-based guidelines. Postoperative nursing care focused on immediate recovery and monitoring, pain management strategies, urinary catheter care, early ambulation, complication prevention, and patient education. Emerging trends and innovations in perioperative nursing were discussed, including advancements in surgical techniques, integration of new technologies, telemedicine, and the adoption of holistic care approaches. The present article also addressed the challenges facing perioperative nurses, such as workforce shortages and burnout, research gaps in TURP nursing, and the importance of promoting ongoing education and training. By examining these key elements, the present article provided a comprehensive resource for perioperative nurses, healthcare providers, and researchers, aimed to enhance understanding, improved patient care, and stimulated further advancements in the field.

The Effect of an Educational Intervention on Nurses' Knowledge, Beliefs, and Actions to be Taken, Regarding Suicide.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of an educational intervention on nurses' knowledge defined as understanding, beliefs, and actions to be taken, regarding nurse suicide. Between 2007 and 2018, nurses were 18% more likely to die by suicide than the general public. As a result, an assessment of nurses' knowledge regarding suicide has become an important issue for nursing administration. A quasi-experiment (N = 225) was conducted. Variables of interest were assessed pre and post an educational intervention on 3 domains related to suicide. Significant and meaningful differences were found regarding 2 domains of interest in nurses' understanding related to nurse suicide, and actions to be taken, pre and post intervention. A significant change occurred regarding beliefs; however, the difference was small and therefore not meaningful. Finding demonstrate that educational interventions focused on issues related to suicide can enhance nurses' knowledge of the challenges implicit when one considers taking one's own life.
