Energy-Efficient and Smart Bicycle Lamps: A Comprehensive Review

In this review paper, information about bicycle lamp technical parameters is provided. The review is based on the searched Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus bibliographic databases and Transportation Research Information Services, which include references to books, technical reports, conference proceedings, and journal articles. This review showed that these papers about bicycle lighting legal rules in given countries are very easy to reach, but deep searching must be performed to find this research paper having the information about types of optical systems and light sources used in bicycle lamps. This research was conducted using PRISMA 2020 assumptions in the area of bicycle lighting technologies and innovations. The information about bicycle lamp technical parameters was obtained on the basis of the examination of technical documents and papers from high-impact journals. The author’s review shows that contemporary bicycle lamps are becoming increasingly smarter and more energy efficient, while also enhancing safety and comfort for cyclists on their routes in and beyond urban environments.

Using kanban board for forming social time management skills of future IT specialists

For the professional development of students studying in information technology areas, it is important to develop social time management skills, i.e. skills in organizing well-coordinated teamwork and optimal distribution of responsibilities between team members with minimal time to achieve a common goal. The article aims to substantiate and elaborate methodological recommendations for developing social time management skills using kanban technology in organizing team activities of future IT specialists. Criteria for assessing the development of social time management skills are proposed. The article points out the necessity of including kanban project management technology not only as training content but also as a way to optimize time resources when performing team training projects.The article describes an experiment on teamwork organization of Nizhny Tagil State Socio-Pedagogical Institute (branch) of Russian State Vocational Pedagogical University students. At the initial stage, the determination of the level of formation of social time management skills among 2nd year students in the process of completing a project assignment on software product development was carried out within the discipline “High-level methods of informatics and programming” without the use of time management technologies. The results of this stage showed the need to develop time management skills of future IT specialists in the process of teamwork. Recommendations for organizing student teamwork when using project time management technologies using a kanban board were formulated, which will allow students to develop social time management skills.The next stage of the experiment was the organization of students’ teamwork using flexible project management methodology (kanban technology): taking into account the proposed recommendations in the experimental group, without the use of time management technologies in the control group. The results of the pedagogical experiment showed the expediency of following the proposed methodological recommendations.

POSSIBILITIES OF SYNTHESIS OF UNCHARGED STABLE LATEX PARTICLES FOR IMMUNOANALYSIS

Objective: The objective of this study is to find a method for synthesizing uncharged polystyrene latex particles whose surface can be easily modified. Theoretical basis: The main method of latex synthesis is emulsion polymerization. Latexes for a specific purpose can be obtained by polymerization in heterogeneous monomer-water systems, without the use of emulsifiers, both with intensive mixing of the system and under static conditions. In this work, polymerization was carried out without the use of emulsifiers in a static monomer-water system. Method: To achieve the set goal, the possibility of obtaining latex particles using a hydrophobic initiator - ditrile of azoisobutyric acid - was investigated by carrying out polymerization in a diffusion mode in a three-phase system monomer - water - initiator. Results and discussion: The results of the study showed that the latex obtained in the three-phase system is stable. It is assumed that the stability is due to the presence of hydroxyl end groups groups of polymer molecules on the surface of the latex particles, which are formed as a result of the reaction of the initiator with water and initiate polymerization. The synthesized latexes retained stability for a year. Practical value: Latexes can be used in all those areas of science and technology where the absence of a charge on the surface of latex particles is required. Originality/value: The originality of the work lies in the fundamental simplicity of the synthesis and the unambiguity of the results obtained.

The Business Angel, Being Both Skilled and Decent

In this review, we explore the scientific landscape regarding Business Angels (BAs), a person who decides to offer their skills to improve the community where they live, distinguishing the different ways in which it is possible to contribute. This systematic review starts with a precise definition of what a BA is in terms of goals, strategies, and intervention area, which could be in social, environmental, technological, or educational areas, differentiating a BA from other kinds of stakeholders, revealing some precise influences due to different cultures or entrepreneurial ecosystems. We are talking about a person who is authoritative not only in terms of competence, knowledge, and skills but who is also noteworthy in terms of moral stature and accountability. We used three databases, SCOPUS, WOS, and EBSCO, using VosViewer to create cluster mapping to differentiate the various areas of research on this topic. We revealed three clusters, namely Business Angel, entrepreneurship, and venture capital, that clarify different facets of the construct. BA activities are very different from conventional strategies and protocols. BAs can operate in innovative areas, bring their own technologies to improve capabilities, handle projects related to sustainability and innovation, and even address social functions and social cohesion.

Modeling risky portfolios with guaranteed maximize returns under a patent race

This paper studies the patent race problem of communication enterprises investing in communication technologies, and constructs a portfolio optimization model which considers the expected returns, investment risks, and replacement costs, in order to achieve the dual goals of maximizing the net investment income of backward enterprises and minimizing the expected investment risk. Through numerical experimental analysis, the optimal investment portfolio strategy under different risk levels and the impact of different risk levels on the net income of lagging company are obtained. The research results show that due to the backward research in the first stage of the backward enterprises, when their own investment decision-making power is relatively high, they can focus on the development of self-interested key technology areas in order to achieve the victory of the patent race.

Insights from the evaluation of a persuasive intervention for absent-minded smartphone use

ABSTRACT Problematic smartphone use (PSU) is a growing concern that hurts users' daily lives and activities. Previous studies have emphasised the importance of developing mindfulness and self-efficacy concerning smartphone use rather than solely focussing on reducing usage. However, there has been little research developing and evaluating digital interventions specifically targeting absent-minded smartphone use. There is also little knowledge on how best mindfulness practice using digital technologies can be integrated with persuasive designs which have been widely studied and implemented for behaviour change. In this paper, we developed a live wallpaper application for Android lock and home screens as a mindfulness-based intervention for absent-minded smartphone use. The application was evaluated over two weeks with 121 participants. This was followed by a semi-structured interview with 15 participants. The results of our analysis show that the intervention reduced absent-minded smartphone use overall. While participants found the various features (especially the customisation features) of the intervention to be persuasive, we found no correlation between perceived persuasiveness and behaviour change. This work provides valuable insights for advancing human-computer interaction (HCI) research on PSU. Additionally, the results raise important questions for future research, such as the relationship between perceived persuasiveness and behaviour change. Finally, we contribute to the discussion on the applications of mindfulness in persuasive technology, challenges and future research areas.

Investigating Blockchain Technology's Integration in Financial Services

The study identifies significant hurdles, such as elevated transaction fees and prevailing technical constraints, which currently impede broader adoption. It also discusses potential regulatory challenges and the need for sector-wide collaboration to realize the full benefits of blockchain. The results of this study provide critical insights for both researchers and developers within the financial sector, highlighting the transformative potential of blockchain and proposing directions for future technological advancements and application areas. This examination not only underscores the immediate benefits and challenges but also sets the stage for subsequent innovation in integrating blockchain into established financial systems, potentially leading to more robust, transparent, and efficient financial services.

InGaP χ(2) integrated photonics platform for broadband, ultra-efficient nonlinear conversion and entangled photon generation

Nonlinear optics plays an important role in many areas of science and technology. The advance of nonlinear optics is empowered by the discovery and utilization of materials with growing optical nonlinearity. Here we demonstrate an indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) integrated photonics platform for broadband, ultra-efficient second-order nonlinear optics. The InGaP nanophotonic waveguide enables second-harmonic generation with a normalized efficiency of 128, 000%/W/cm2 at 1.55 μm pump wavelength, nearly two orders of magnitude higher than the state of the art in the telecommunication C band. Further, we realize an ultra-bright, broadband time-energy entangled photon source with a pair generation rate of 97 GHz/mW and a bandwidth of 115 nm centered at the telecommunication C band. The InGaP entangled photon source shows high coincidence-to-accidental counts ratio CAR > 104 and two-photon interference visibility > 98%. The InGaP second-order nonlinear photonics platform will have wide-ranging implications for non-classical light generation, optical signal processing, and quantum networking.

Effect of graphene on the key electrical, optical, and magnetic properties of polymethylmethacrylate: a study based on molecular modeling.

In this work, a new polymeric structure was designed consisting of a nanometric sheet of graphene (G) and a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) repeat unit, which was designated as PMMA-G. Three degrees of polymerization of PMMA-G were considered: monomer (PMMA-G1), dimer (PMMA-G2), and trimer (PMMA-G3). The effect of incorporating a nanometric sheet of graphene into the molecular structure of PMMA on the modification of some of its main optical, magnetic, and electrical properties was investigated. Currently, the study presented here is of great relevance since various areas of technology require new materials with specific properties for the development of new devices. The results of our study reveal that the dielectric constant of PMMA is reduced when graphene is incorporated. However, a percentage increase of 14.48% in the refractive index of PMMA when graphene is inserted to form the nanocomposite is observed. It is found that the absolute value of molar magnetic susceptibility of PMMA increases considerably when reinforced with graphene. Finally, when reinforcing PMMA with graphene to obtain the PMMA-G nanocomposite, the electrical resistivity increases by almost an order of magnitude. We used computational tools under Materials Studio (MS) software. We built a PMMA molecule with three degrees of polymerization, graphene sheet, and polymethylmethacrylate-graphene composite (PMMA-G) was built also with three degrees of polymerization using a concentration of 50% graphene over the PMMA polymer. For each structure, we used computational code DMol3 of MS, which is based on the Density Functional Theory, and the geometry optimization process was carried out to obtain the most stable structures. Finally, using the connectivity indices method together with topological properties of the molecular structures, implemented in Synthia computational code of MS software, we calculated the dielectric constant, magnetic susceptibility, refractive index, and electrical resistivity, for pure PMMA and PMMA-G structures for their three degrees of polymerization. The results were analyzed, and the changes in these properties were discussed in terms of the effect of an electric and magnetic field on the molecular structures of PMMA-G with respect to PMMA.

Extraction and Physicochemical Characterization of Chitin from Galeodes araneoides (Pallas, 1772) (Arachnida: Solifugae)

: Chitin is a biomaterial which has a high potential of use in many areas of technology. It is found as a structural material in the outer skeletons of arthropods, the cell walls of mushrooms, and the shells of marine invertebrates. Chitin is the most abundant biopolymer in nature after cellulose and contains nitrogen in its structure. In recent years, apart from traditional chitin sources, insects, arachnids, coral/crustacean eggs and even bat guano have been reported as alternative chitin sources. In this study, chitin was first extracted from external skeleton of a solifugids species, Galeodes araneoides (Pallas, 1772) and the isolated chitin was characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD, and TGA. The obtained chitin has been found to have high thermal stability, nanofiber and nanoporous surface, and alpha form and it is suggested that it can be an alternative chitin source.

Vertical Integration versus Open Innovation? From Winner Takes it All to Winners Make it All

This study explores the dynamics between the extremes of open innovation (OI)—from inclusive co-creation to exclusive vertical integration (VI). This analysis addresses the management issues of how Tesla and Porsche manage value capture and value distribution in the e-mobility industry through their contrasting approaches and strategic shifts between OI and VI. It develops a novel theoretical model juxtaposing the OI mode from open to closed with the value chain position from horizontal to vertical. Analyzing Tesla and Porsche’s strategic moves offers a paradigm shift for OI practitioners. Our model can enable enhanced value capture through greater openness and more inclusive value distribution through proactive inside-out strategies in core technology areas. Instead of positioning VI and OI as static polar extremes, a novel combination of VI and OI can realize untapped potential.

Use of data science in the development of concrete based on construction and demolition waste: a brazilian view

The growth in urbanization and construction activity has led to a growing increase in construction and demolition waste and the extraction of natural resources, energy, and CO2. The projection is that these figures will expand even more in the coming years, making it worrying for a sustainable balance in construction, especially in the manufacture of concrete, which is one of the most consumed materials globally. In this context, recycled concrete has emerged as a sustainable alternative to traditional concrete. Concepts such as urban mining combined with data mining and machine learning techniques are emerging as alternatives that serve as a basis for producing recycled concrete with the required qualities. Therefore, this study aims to map the existing research in the areas of materials and technology, focusing on the recycling and reuse of construction and demolition waste (CDW) and the manufacture of recycled concrete. Surveying this research will provide guidance for future research and encourage more sustainable standards in the construction sector.

Design of Self–Checking Digital Devices with Boolean Signals Correction Using Weight-Based Bose–Lin Codes

This paper proposes a method for designing self-checking digital devices with Boolean signals correction and weight-based Bose–Lin codes. Unlike previous studies, the method involves Boolean signals correction (BSC) in the concurrent error-detection (CED) circuit for those functions describing the outputs of source devices that participate in the formation of data symbols of weight-based Bose–Lin codes. In such codes, as in the absolute majority of uniform separable codes, several data vectors correspond to the same check vector; therefore, it is possible to choose a method for determining BSC functions. We describe an algorithm for determining their values for each input combination, considering the testability of the checker and transformation elements in the CED circuit. The method involves the so-called “base” structure for monitoring multi-output devices by output groups. With this method, the designer of a self-checking device has high variability in choosing the design method and can regulate important indicators (structure redundancy, controllability, energy consumption, and others). Experiments with combinational benchmarks from MCNC Benchmarks were carried out. According to the experimental data, the method has high efficiency in terms of structure redundancy compared to the duplication method widespread in practice. The method can be effective when designing real devices with fault detection used in all areas of technology, including critical application systems in industry and transport.

In the current review, we also discussed the different organic and inorganic nanomaterials. The article also discusses consumer health and safety concerns, highlighting the significance of thorough safety assessments and clear communication. Nanotechnology has numerous uses in diverse areas of food technology. This analysis examines the potential of nanotechnology to improve the quality and safety of packaged food. Nanotechnology in food packaging is highly encouraging, providing substantial advantages in terms of food preservation, safety, and sustainability. This paper offers a thorough examination of present trends, technological progress, and future predictions to provide a full understanding of how nanotechnology can fundamentally transform food packaging. This transformation will enable the development of creative, environmentally friendly, and more secure food systems.

Expertenkommission Forschung und Innovation: Synergieeffekte zwischen ziviler und militärischer Forschung klug nutzen

Abstract To synergise civil and military research, their separation should be abandoned and the so-called ‘civil clauses’ still enshrined in the statutes of many German universities should be reconsidered. Together with its European partners, the German government should establish joint development and procurement processes for the military. Key technologies must be systematically identified and promoted in order to avoid unilateral dependencies in these technology areas that could weaken military security. In order to counter the lack of skilled personnel, the Bundeswehr should train soldiers in such a way that they can use the knowledge they have acquired during their military service in civilian life.

Advancements in CuO nanoparticle technology: synthesis, characterization of copper oxide nanoflowers

Abstract Nanostructured materials, including metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, play a crucial role in advancing diverse scientific and technological areas. Transition metal oxides such as CuO are integral to developments in fields like antibacterial treatments, solar energy conversion, sensing technologies, catalysis, magnetic storage, supercapacitors, and semiconductor devices. This research is centered on the hydrothermal synthesis of pure copper oxide nanoflowers, which are noted for their extensive surface areas. Zeta potential analysis, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were some of the methods utilized to characterize these nanoparticles. The results showed that band gap energies, crystallite size, and lattice characteristics are all greatly affected by CuO. XRD results indicated a covellite monoclinic polycrystalline structure predominantly orientation with average crystallite sizes around 15.84 nm. FE-SEM imagery depicted the hierarchical, cauliflower-like structure of the CuO nanoparticles. Optical assessments revealed band gap values ranging from 2.58 eV. The findings underscore the broad potential of CuO nanoflowers across various technological applications.

Cooperative Intelligence Platform for Primary Health Care (Picaps): techno-scientific solutions in digital health to confront COVID-19 and other crises

The arrival of COVID-19 in Brazil had a marked impact on the health network as well as on the professionals involved, due to the significant number of cases and constantly updated information. In this context, the Cooperative Intelligence Platform for Primary Health Care - Picaps - is set up as a technological platform that assists by systematizing the communication and negotiation processes among actors, with a focus on science and technology. This article sets out to describe the processes of Picaps, which consist of a collaborative system conceived of as a public solution capable of generating innovations in the areas of Science, Technology and Health, in order to tackle COVID-19 in territories with populations in socially vulnerable situations in the Federal District (DF). It integrates data collection and processing, as well as the dissemination of information for its use, both at the governmental and societal levels. Picaps can be seen as a powerful government instrument to help societies across the country, especially those in vulnerable situations, capable of assisting in the use of cooperative intelligence in primary care and health surveillance actions to build innovative solutions such as rapid responses to face health crises in modern times.

Measuring technological development and sovereignty

The article discusses the issue of measuring technological sovereignty, which is essential for developing a scientific and technical strategy to enhance Russia’s technological independence. Index methods do not provide an accurate representation of the level of technological sovereignty. Solving this problem requires assessing the efficiency of economic technologies. The aim of the study is to explain the direct (non-indexed) method of measuring technology sovereignty, taking into account qualitative features of technologies. The study employs the theory of technological change and empirical regression analysis and uses statistical data from the Russian economy as its information base. A general algorithm for measuring technological independence is proposed. It is applied to each technological area separately, considering the qualitative characteristics of the technologies used. An indicator for assessing the level of producibility is calculated based on the ratio of innovative to non-innovative products and services. The impact of investments in new and old technologies on this indicator is assessed, allowing to obtain a structural picture of Russia’s technological development and renewal. The general conclusion is that investments in new technologies have not been a determining factor in increasing the level of producibility for the Russian economy. The measurement of technological sovereignty requires changes to the federal statistical system for tracking technological development. This would not only allow for a more accurate quantification of the superiority of domestically produced technologies over imported ones but would also reflect the qualitative aspects of potential dependence on foreign technologies in a more comprehensive way. Resources, Training, and Education Under the Heliostat Consortium: Industry Gap Analysis and Building a Resource Database

Abstract Concentrating solar power is not a widely deployed or known technology area, and the heliostat workforce community in the United States is currently small, with knowledge and expertise not widely available. The resource, training, and education (RTE) topic within the Heliostat Consortium (HelioCon) was established to address this. RTE encompasses resources, practices, and programs to ensure that (1) newcomers to the heliostat development community have an adequate knowledge base and training to conduct R&D efforts, (2) outsiders to the field are provided with resources and opportunities to join the workforce, and (3) the workforce community is a productive, healthy, and fulfilling environment for all workers. In the first year of the project, a roadmap study was conducted, in which the major gaps in RTE were identified by consulting experts in the industry, with the top gap being the lack of public accessibility to concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP) knowledge. To address this, the HelioCon team has been developing a centralized web-based resource database, containing a reference library, educational videos, lists of components suppliers and software/metrology tools, a power tower plant database, and information on existing standards/guidelines.

The Research Development Track of Internet of Things in the Application Area of Communication Technology

Computer networks, mobile media, and information and communication technology (ICT) have grown progressively, and the development of communication technology is closely connected with that of ICT. This study explored the role played by the Internet of Things as ICT develops. Accordingly, through main path analysis and keyword co-occurrence network analysis, this study was designed to learn the major research development track, cluster status, and future research and development of the Internet of Things in the application area of communication technology.
