The article is devoted to the problems of conservation of wild populations of the Sievers apple tree (Malus sieversii) in Kazakhstan, which are of global importance as a natural genetic basis for the maintenance and production of apples worldwide. Unfortunately, over the past half century, the area of growth of wild populations of this type of apple tree has sharply decreased, so the issues of preserving apple forests require special attention. One of the main threats to the existence of wild populations of the Sievers apple tree in the last 20 years has become insect pests that cause enormous damage to natural populations. In this regard, the purpose of the publication is to determine the degree of damage to the Sievers apple tree by three main pests (Yponomeuta malinella Zell., Archips rosana L., Cacoecia crataegana Hb.) in the Iley Alatau in 2018, 2019. A map of the distribution and influence of the apple ermine moth (Yponomeuta malinella Zell.), roseate leaf roller (Archips rosana L.), hawthorn leaf roller (Cacoecia crataegana Hb.) on the territory of the Ile-Alatau GNPP is also given.

Studies on Potential Pests of Japanese Quince (Chaenomeles japonica (Thunb.) Lindl. ex Spach) in Latvia

Abstract The objective of this research was to study potential pests of Japanese quince (Chaenomeles japonica) plantations in Latvia. Studies were carried out in eight plantations during 2017–2019. Major pests that would regularly cause significant yield losses for this plant were not observed. Black-veined white (Aporia crataegi) was considered a local pest, mass outbreaks of which can occur in individual plantations and cause significant losses of plant foliage. Four species were considered minor pests: garden chafer (Phyllopertha horticola), yellow-banded weevil (Chlorophanus viridis), silver-green weevil (Phyllobius argentatus) and copse snail (Arianta arbustorum); they are also pests of plant foliage. The European red spider mite (Panonychus ulmi) was not considered as a pest of Japanese quince. A small population was observed in summers only in one plantation, which was located next to a heavily infested orchard. Overwintering eggs were not found on the plants in any year, and we concluded that the species was an accidental immigrant in this plantation. No aphid (Aphididae) colonies were observed on the quince plants. Monitoring and evaluation of potential harmfulness of four tortrix moths – large fruit-tree tortrix (Archips podana), rose tortrix (Archips rosana), codling moth (Cydia pomonella) and holly tortrix (Rhopobota naevana) – was done. It was concluded that rose tortrix is a minor fruit pest, but the other three species were not yet considered pests of Japanese quince. Significant pests of quince flowers and fruits were not detected in our study.

Lepidopteran Pests of Apple Trees on the Territory of the City of Vanadzor

Key Words: Lori region, pomaceae, egg, caterpillar, pupa, imago Lepidopteran pests of apple trees in the Lori region have been documented in specialised literature; however, research on these pests in Vanadzor has not been done, despite the fact that many dangerous insects, including lepidoptera, flooded into private gardens in the city of Vanadzor after extensive clearing of orchards nearby. In this area, private farms suffer substantial damage from caterpillars. Additionally, some pests' caterpillars can induce allergic reactions, some of which can be very dangerous, when they come into contact with people's skin, particularly that of youngsters. The investigation of this matter is the focus of this work. As a result of our research, we identified 14 species of leafrollers of apple trees, which belong to the orders Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and Homoptera. The greatest damage is caused by Apple ermine (Hypomoneuta malinellus Z.), Gypsy (spongy) moth (Lymantria dispar L.), Lackey moth (Malacosoma neustria L.), Brown-tail moth (Euproctis chrysorrhoea L.), Apple blossom weevil (Anthonomus pomorum L.), Tortrix moths especially Rose tortrix moth (Archips rosana L.), and Large fruit-tree tortrix (Archips podana L.). Entomophages have also been obtained, which belong to the families of Braconidae and the Ichneumonidae.

The parasitisation of the rose tortrix [Archips rosana (L.)] Population in the apple orchard in the Wielkopolska region, Poland

The rose tortrix is a polyphagous species, which is dominant in the leafroller complex (Tortricidae) in orchards, including apple orchards and fruit-bearing shrubs in western and southeastern Poland. Rose tortrixes massively feed on leaf rosettes, developing leaves, buds, flowers and fruit buds in orchards. The population of this phytophage is regulated by environmental factors such as its natural enemies, e.g. parasitoids. The aim of the study was to determine the degree of parasitisation of rose tortrix pupae and to determine the role of individual families of parasitoids in reducing their population. The study showed that parasitoids from the Ichneumonidae, Chalcididae, Tachinidae, Euliphidae and Pteromalidae families reduced the rose tortrix population. The parasitoids of the Ichneumonidae family were the most effective entomophages. The degree of total parasitisation of rose tortrixes in individual years of the research was similar.
 The effectiveness of these entomophagous parasitoids is influenced by environmental factors – above all by weather conditions, the number of crop protection treatments and the ecological infrastructure of orchards.

New Record and DNA Barcoding of Dolichogenidea laevigata (Ratzeburg, 1848) as a Parasitoid of Archips rosana (Linnaeus, 1758) from Iran

This is the first report for Iran of Dolichogenidea laevigata (Ratzeburg, 1848) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Microgastrinae) parasitizing larvae of the European leaf roller Archips rosana (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). The parasitized larvae of A. rosana were obtained from different host plants. The occurrence of D. laevigata and its diagnosis are presented. In addition, a full DNA barcode (the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I, (COI) barcoding region) of the species was obtained for the first time.

New Records of the Craneflies (Diptera: Limoniidae, Tipulidae) from the Western Balkans

Population dynamics and parasitoid complex of Archips rosana (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) in Western Turkey

The rose tortrix moth, Archips rosana (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is a pest that causes serious crop losses in apple orchards throughout the world. In this study, the population dynamics of A. rosana and its associated parasitoids were investigated in two provinces of Western Turkey (Denizli and Usak) in 2018 and 2019. A total of 318 egg masses, 300 larvae, and 129 pupae were collected from the survey areas. Although no parasitoids were detected in egg masses, ten parasitoid species belonging to Braconidae, Chalcididae, and Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera), and Tachinidae (Diptera), were reared from the samples of larvae and pupae. Phytodietus astutus (Gravenhorst) (Ichneumonidae) was the most abundant parasitoid species, with a relative abundance of 35.1%, followed by Itoplectus maculator (Fabricius) (Ichneumonidae) represented by 27% of the recovered parasitoids. Moreover, P. astutus and Scambus inanis (Schrank) (Ichneumonidae) reared from the samples are the first records from Turkey, while Cotesia glomerata (L.) (Braconidae), Exochus sp.(Ichneumonidae), and Nemorilla maculosa (Meigen) (Tachinidae) are the first records from A. rosana. Using pheromone traps in the apple orchards, the first adult of A. rosana was caught on May 24 in Civril (Denizli) and on May 30 in Sivasli (Usak) in 2019

Adana İli Kiraz Yetiştiriciliği Yapılan Alanlarda Belirlenen Zararlı Böcek Türleri

This study was carried out the cherry orchards in 6 districts (Pozanti, Karaisali, Aladag, Feke, Saimbeyli, Tufanbeyli) of Adana province between 2016-2018. In study were determined 26 pests genus and species belonging to 17 families from 7 order. It has been determined that some of these species cause economic losses from time to time. Main pest of cherry Rhagoletis cerasi L., Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura), Tropinota (=Epicometis) hirta (Poda), Scolytus rugulosus (Ratzeburg), Myzus cerasi (F.), Archips rosanus (L.) and Stephanitis pyri (F.) were identified as common pests.

Екологічно безпечні заходи регулювання чисельності шкідливих організмів у персикових (Persica vulgaris Mill.) насадженнях

According to the results of the researches in 2016-2018, the display terms and intensity of the major peach diseases development changes from year to year and depends mainly on the weather conditions that in the south of Ukraine are favorable for the mass spread and development of Taphrina deformans Tull., Clacterosporium carpophilum (Lev.) Aderh. and Monilia cinerea Bonord. The leaves affection by Taphrina damage appeared to be 35.0-56.3 %, the intensity of the disease development being 22.4-23.4 %; Clacterosporium – 16.5 and 5.4 %, Monilia – up to 15.0 %. When studying the species composition of the peach entomocomplex, 6 major pests were detected among insects as follows: Anarsia lineatella Zell., Archips rosana L., Grapholitha molesta Busck, Lithocolletis cerasicolella H.S, Sciaphobus squalidus Gyll. and Brachycaudus tragopogonis Kalt. Lepidoptera prevailes (67 %) among them. Other species of pests (17 %) belong to the rows Coleoptera and Homoptera. The complex application of the chemical (Bordeaux Isagro, 20 % Copper Sulphate, 5.0 kg/ha) and a mixture of the biological preparations (Trichodermin, 2.0 l/ha, Planriz, 1.0 l/ha, Pentofag, 5.0 l/ha, Gaupsin, 3.0-5.0 l/ha, Lepidocide, 10 l/ha) at the beginning of the bud swell, and before and after the peach flowering, proves to protect reliably the orchards against harmful organisms. The technical efficiency of the above mentioned preparations against the main diseases and dominant pests 63.0-89.0 and 50.0-94.0 % respectively.

Features of phytosanitary condition of rose cultivars of miniature garden group of the collection of the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens

The objective of the research is the identification of dominant species of phytophagans and the determination of species composition of causative agents of phytopathogenic diseases of garden group of miniature rose cultivars. Methods of research . Species composition of pests was studied by visual inspection of generative and vegetative organs 1 time in 7-10 days. Samples of affections were analyzed under a binocular microscope in the laboratory. The frequency of pests’ occurrence was determined on a 3-point scale. The assessment of garden roses infestation with fungal diseases was carried out on a natural infectious background on a 5-point scale. Results and discussions. The study was performed on 49 cultivars, of which 46 were introduced species, 3 cultivars were of breeding of the Nikitsky Gardens. As a result of the research, three species of phytophagans belonging to three orders of the class Insecta - Homoptera , Lepidoptera Acarina were revealed. Green rose aphid (Macrosiphum rosae L.), rose moth (Archips rosana L.), twospotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) were most commonly observed during the growing season. In 2016, the focus of reproduction of an invasive species - cattony cushion scale (Icerya purchasi Maskell) was found for the first time on the cultivar of the miniature group Rouletii. The species composition of pathogens of phytopathogenic diseases was identified, the most harmful of which are: powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca pannosa (Wallr)). Lev.), black spot (Marsonina rosae (Lib.) Died, rust (Phragmidium tuberculosis J.). Conclusion. The cultivars that are resistant to fungal diseases mainly dominated in the garden group of miniature roses. For the stable expression of this feature, it is necessary to create optimal conditions for cultivation: the use of preventive sprays with biological preparations or low-risk pesticides and compliance with the regime of agricultural activities. On the base of complex cultivar study, cultivar evaluation and phytosanitary evaluation of roses of the miniature garden group of the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens’ collection, an assortment for flower decoration was developed, including 46 cultivars for group planting, which can be recommended for landscaping parks, squares, streets in the populated areas of the Crimea.

Controlling the abundance of the rose tortrix moth [Archips rosana (L.)] by parasitoids in apple orchards in Wielkopolska, Poland

The rose tortrix moth Archips rosana (Linnaeus) is a dominant species among leafroller moths in<br />Poland’s apple orchards. The study found high levels of parasitisation of the tortrix (15.5–40.1%), with the average level of parasitisation of 24.6%, by parasitoids of the families Ichneumonidae, Chalcididae and Tachinidae. The most effective were the Ichneumonidae, which decreased the tortrix abundance by 17.2%. The rose tortrix moth was parasitised by 7 Ichneumonidae species, namely: Trichomma enecator (Rossi), Phaeogenes semivulpinu (Gravenhorsts), Exochus mitratus (Gravenhorsts), Apechthis quadridentata (Thomson), Apechthis rufata (Gmelin in Linnaeus), Itoplectis maculator (Fabricius) and Pimpla turionellae (Linnaeus). The tortrix abundance was mainly reduced by I. maculator, which parasitised 5.1–32.2% of the pupae (15% on average).

Developing an integrated plan of harvest protection as a tool of improving food supply security in Kyrgyzstan

The article shows that apricot plants in the South of Kyrgyzstan are wide spread in the Batken Region. This region is favorable for growing apricots sold both in the domestic and in the foreign markets. It is here where they cultivate many varieties of apricots which are subsequently exported in dried form to CIS and non-CIS states. Heat-resistant and drought-resistant rare varieties of apricots are cultivated in the Batken Region, such as: Kandak, Mirsanjeli, Khurmai, Subkhoni, Babai, Akhrori, Arzami, Isfarak, Kursadyk, Ak Uriuk (Sovetskiy). 22 species of insect pests of apricot plants were found; they are conveniently classified into five orders. The dominant pests of apricot plants are as follows: apricot seed wasps (Eurytoma samsonovi Vass.), plum seed wasps (Eurytoma schreineri Schr.), apricot snout-beetle (Rhynchites auratus ferghanensis News.), gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar L.), casebearer (Coleophora hemerobiolla Fil.), European leaf roller (Archips rosana L.), acacia lecanium - (Parthenolecanium corni Bouche). The most common apricot diseases in the climate of the Batken Region of Kyrgyzstan are shot-hole disease (Clasterosporium carpophilum Aderh.), frostly pod rot (Monilia cinerea Bon.), bacterial blight (Gummi.), verticillium wilt (Verticillium dahliae Kleb.), twig die-back (Cytospora arphosperma Fr.).

Species Composition and Population Dynamics of Dominant Dendrophagous Moths (Lepidoptera) in St. Petersburg and Its Environs

The paper summarizes new and literature data on the species composition, trophic relationships, and population dynamics of phyllophagous lepidopterans dominant on woody plants in St. Petersburg and its environs (Russia). Most of these species have concealed larvae (e.g., leaf miners and leaf rollers), and some of them are invasive. The data were accumulated during approximately a hundred years of observations and field collections. Concealed species form the dominant group within the studied complex of phyllophagous moths in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Province (27 species from 13 families). Changes in the composition of dominant pests of the dog rose, bird cherry, elm, poplar, and other woody plants have been recorded. Outbreaks of some species, such as Phyllonorycter salicicolella (Gracillariidae), Archips rosana (Tortricidae), Leucoma salicis, Lymantria monacha, and Orgyia antiqua (Erebidae), were recorded during the XX century but since about 1980 the population density of these species has remained at a very low level. Another group of species, which includes Phyllonorycter populifoliella (Gracillariidae), Batrachedra praeangusta (Batrachedridae), Acleris bergmanniana, and Epinotia abbreviana (Tortricidae), demonstrated a sharp increase in population density in the 1990–2000s, a phenomenon which had not been observed before. The possible causes of such population dynamics are discussed. The dominant species of phyllophagous micro-lepidopterans, including some recent invaders (e.g., Cameraria ohridella and Phyllonorycter issikii, Gracillariidae) and adventive species (e.g., Ph. populifoliella and Ph. acerifoliella, Gracillariidae) pose a serious threat to woody plants in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Province.

Oviposition behaviour and distribution of egg masses of the European leaf roller, Archips rosanus (L.), on citrus trees

The citrus leaf roller (CLR), Archips rosanus, a threatening pest of leaves and fruitlets on fruit trees, which in recent years has led to considerable damage to different citrus trees in some parts of the Mazandaran province of Iran. Insect activity on citrus trees causes the growth of buds and leaves to stop and foliage to dry. Pest oviposition as egg masses occurs on the host tree’s trunk. Eggs spent a year in the hibernation stage and, in the following spring, hatched the first instar larvae that fed on the opened buds. The distributions of CLR egg masses, deposited in 2015–2016, were evaluated on the Thomson novel cultivar (Citrus sinensis L.) in the northern region of Iran. The results showed that the numbers of egg masses laid on the trees at different height ranges of 0–50, 50–100, 100–150 and 150–200 cm were, respectively, 38.65, 33.78, 18.54 and 9.03%. The mean number of A. rosanus eggs per mass, however, was not significant at different heights of the tree. Also, most of the egg masses were laid in the north and south directions in comparison with the west and east directions, with no significant difference in mean number in different geographical directions.

BAZI HERBİVOR BÖCEKLER HAKKINDA BİYOLOJİK GÖZLEMLER

Some biological characteristics of the herbivorous Archips rosana (Linnaeus) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), Melitaea didyma (Esper) (Lep.: Nymphalidae), Melitaea cinxia (Linnaeus) (Lep.: Nymphalidae), Allophyes oxyacanthae (Linnaeus) (Lep.: Noctuidae), Aporia crataegi (Linnaeus) (Lep.: Pieridae), Periclistus brandtii (Ratzeburg) (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae), Lymantria dispar (Linnaeus) (Lep.: Erebidae) and Mustha spinosula (Lefèbvre) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) obtained from Thrace Region during field studies in the period of 2013-2016 were monitored in laboratory conditions and the observations were evaluated. The carnivorous behaviour of A. rosana and M. didyma larvae, egg production by adult females of A. oxyacanthae through parthenogenesis, the defense/predatory behaviour of M. spinosula adults on L. dispar larvae and the association of P. brandtii with Pyrus communis (Linnaeus) plant are the observations reported for the first time. Furthermore, from Melitaea cinxia larva, the parasitoid Erycia festinans (Meigen) (Diptera: Tachinidae) emerged. E. festinans is a new record for Diptera fauna of Turkey. Correspondingly, M. cinxia and E. festinans is a new host-parasitoid association for Turkey.

Microlepidoptera caught in traps baited with lures containing pear ester and acetic acid in Hungary

The present research was undertaken to screen for field activity of ethyl-(E,Z)-2,4-decadienoate (pear ester, PE), acetic acid (AA) and the blend of this two components (PEAA) at locations, where high diversity of microlepidopteran species was presumed. By tendency of relative catches, microlepidopterans captured could be divided into two groups: in the first group the PEAA blend resulted in higher catches than single components (Hedya nubiferana, Ypsolopha scabrella and Notocelia trimaculana), while in the second group (Archips rosana, A. xylosteana, Ptycholoma lecheana and Tortrix viridana) only the presence of AA was responsible for attractivity. In all species, both male and female specimens were caught. This result indicates a potential way to optimise female-targeted lures based on PEAA or AA for all these microlepidopterans that are all recorded as pests. On the other hand, the capture of the above moths in the traps raises the need for some taxonomic knowledge in evaluating captures in PEAA-baited traps currently use in agricultural practice for codling moth monitoring.

Ban of a broad-spectrum insecticide in apple orchards: effects on tortricid populations, management strategies, and fruit damage

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of the ban of Gusathion® (azinphosmethyl) as insecticide in Swedish apple orchards on tortricid moth population density and tortricid-induced crop damage. In addition, the effects on growers’ management strategies, such as choice of spraying dates and alternative insecticide combinations, were studied. Populations of Adoxophyes orana, Archips podana, Archips rosana, Cydia pomonella, Pandemis heparana, Hedya nubiferana, and Spilonota ocellana were monitored using sex-pheromone traps during the four consecutive seasons of 2008–2011, with annual crop damage estimates made prior to harvest. Azinphosmethyl was banned after 2008. Significantly increasing population densities were observed in A. orana, A. podana, C. pomonella, and H. nubiferana, whereas correspondingly increasing crop damage was observed only in the case of C. pomonella. The growers’ management strategies, with respect to number and timing of spray applications, did not change during the study period although the insecticides available after the ban were less persistent and more specific, i.e., either with primarily ovicidal or larvicidal effect. Analysis of a broad range of factors showed that temperatures during winter and spring, number and timing of insecticide applications, and usage of azinphosmethyl in 2008 were important factors affecting population size and the damage caused by the tortricid species studied.

Pheromone traps were used to monitor the following tortricid moths, i.e. Adoxophyes orana, Archips podanus, A. rosanus, Hedya nubiferana, Pandemis heparana, Spilonota ocellana, Cydia pomonella, Cydia funebrana and Cydia molesta in the localities Brno-Tuřany (Brno-město), Nebovidy (Brno-venkov) and Prakšice (Uherské Hradiště). Other Lepidoptera non-target species were present in these target-species pheromone traps, i.e. Adoxophyes orana, Agrotis segetum, Amphipoea oculaea, Archips rosanus, Celypha striana, Cydia coronillana, Enarmonia formosana, Epiblema scutulanum, Epinotia huebneriana, Eucosma fervidana, Euxoa tritici, Hedya pruniana, H. nubiferana, Lymantria dispar, Noctua pronuba, Notocelia rosaecolana, N. roborana, Pammene albuginana, P. suspectana, Pandemis cerasana, Pyrausta rectefascialis, P. aurata, Spilonota ocellana, Yponomeuta malinellus and Zygaena purpuralis.

Spasożytowanie populacji zwójki różóweczki [Archips rosana (L.)] w sadach jabłoniowych z integrowaną ochroną roślin w Wielkopolsce

The study was in apple orchards with integrated plant protection in the vicinity of Poznań in 2009–2010. The aim was to determine the level of parasitizing of the rose tortrix moth [Archips rosana (L.)] in its pupae stage by different parasitoid families. The rose tortrix moth is definitely a dominant species among phytophages in the „leaf” tortrix group in the apple orchards of western Wielkopolska. The abundance of the moth was reduced by three families of parasitoids, namely Ichneumonidae and Chalcididae (Hymenoptera) and Tachinidae (Diptera). The pupae were parasitized in 4.7% in 2009 by Ichneumonidae and Tachinidae, while in 2010 the parasitization percentage was 23.6% respectively for the three parasitoid families. A high effectiveness of Ichneumonidae in controlling the abundance of tortrix moth was found, and the parasitization level was 4.7% and 15.7%. A high effectiveness of Itoplectis maculator (F.) (Pimplinae) in controlling the abundance of the tortrix was shown as compared with the other species of Ichneumonidae. In 2009 this species was the only one to reduce the moth abundance and parasitized the pest in 4%, and in 2010 it reduced the abundance of the moth to the greatest extent, i.e. by 11.7%. Badania prowadzono w latach 2009–2010, w sadach jabłoniowych okolic Poznania, w których stosowano integrowaną metodę ochrony roślin. Celem badań było określenie stopnia spasożytowania zwójki różóweczki [Archips rosana (L.)] w stadium poczwarki przez poszczególne rodziny parazytoidów. Zwójka różóweczka należy do zdecydowanego dominanta wśród fitofagów zaliczanych do zwójek „liściowych” występujących w sadach jabłoniach, w zachodniej Wielkopolsce. Liczebność zwójki została ograniczona przez trzy rodziny parazytoidów, do których należały Ichneumonidae i Chalcididae (Hymenoptera) oraz Tachinidae (Diptera). Poczwarki zwójki zostały spasożytowane w 4,7% w 2009 roku przez Ichneumonidae i Tachinidae, natomiast w 2010 roku w 23,6% przez trzy rodziny parazytoidów. Stwierdzono wysoką efektywność Ichneumonidae w regulacji liczebności zwójki, ponieważ obserwowano pasożytowanie w 4,7% i w 15,7%. Wykazano wysoką skuteczność gatunku Itoplectis maculator (F.) (Pimplinae) w obniżeniu liczebności zwójki w odniesieniu do pozostałych gatunków Ichneumonidae. W 2009 roku był on jedynym gatunkiem, który obniżył jej liczebność i spasożytował ją w 4%, a w 2010 roku ograniczył jej liczebność w najwyższym stopniu, bo w 11,7%.

Characterization of leaf-rollers attacking forest and fruit trees in Azerbaijan (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae).

In der Dekade 1994-2004 wurden im Norden (Sheki-Zagatala), Osten (Baku-Absheron) und Süden (Lenkoran-Astara) Aserbaidschans an Forst- und Obstbäumen schädigende Wickler untersucht. Dabei zeigte sich, dass 16 Wicklerarten aus 14 Gattungen (9 Tortricinae, 7 Olethreutinae) in der Region weit verbreitet sind. Vier weitere Arten, Ptycholoma lecheana (L.), Cacoecimorpha pronubana Hübner, Eudemis profundana (Denis & Schiffermüller) und Epinotia demarniana (Fisch.), wurden erstmals in Aserbaidschan gefunden.
