Eddy current and ultrasonic sensors for robot arc welding

Eddy current and ultrasonic sensing have potentially large advantages over vision systems for guidance of arc welding, except with very complex geometries. They are simpler, less expensive, and eddy current is immune to fumes from the arc. The authors review work currently in progress at Oxford.

Arc Welding Robot Systems for Large Steel Constructions

This paper describes a sensory-based robot for arc welding, RW-250 family, dedicated to heavy industries which handle large steel constructions. It is required that the arc welding robot for large steel constructions have a wider operation range, narrower space accessibility, and more intelligence than has the conventional one.

Robotic Arc Welding: Research in Sensory Feedback Control

Robotic arc welding and its dependence on sensory feed-back control for successful application is discussed. Problems unique to arc weld sensing are identified and sensor requirements are categorized as a function of welding design requirements, joint imperfections, weld shape deviations, and process characteristics. Robot arc welding developments

This paper outlines the range of robots available and in use in Britain for arc welding, and gives examples of typical current industrial applications. Work at the National Engeering Laboratories and the Welding Institute has the objective of increasing the range and ease of robot arc welding, and recent developments in this area are introduced.

Actuator design for arc welding robot

The present work is an attempt to determine torque required at each joint of 6-Degree of Freedom Arc Welding Robot for typical horizontal fillet welding operation which will be useful for designing actuator. Here, range of welding speed 90mm/min & 2000mm/min is taken. Result obtained at the end of this analysis will be useful for designing actuator capacity for typical application. The methodology adopted for analysis includes development of dynamic model, determination of velocity and acceleration with respect to time and thus determination of torque using velocity-acceleration and dynamic model.
