First, the basis of the STDAS is presumed agreement in the literature on the symptoms of the disorder. Our review suggested that there was little agreement to support a determination of symptoms for developmental apraxia of speech. As a result, the appropriateness of the symptoms used to diagnose this disorder were called into question. Second, test construction for the STDAS was evaluated for design, standardization, validation, reliability, administration, scoring, and interpretation. In our opinion, serious problems exist in these areas which also need to be addressed.
