Innovative modeling of monolayer puckered arsenene: Bridging quantum mechanics and finite element analysis

Current study presents a novel hybrid approach combining finite element modeling and density functional theory calculations to investigate the mechanical properties of monolayer puckered arsenene. The multiscale analysis in this study leverages finite element analysis as a distinctive approach, complementing the nano‐scale capabilities of density functional theory and molecular dynamics by overcoming limitations faced by these two methods in representing complex scenarios. Furthermore, finite element analysis demonstrates computational efficiency for larger structures, making it suitable for systems where atomistic simulations may be impractical. This hybrid methodology offers a unique framework for accurately predicting key properties, including elastic modulus and buckling force, by synergistically integrating the strengths of both computational techniques. This article will introduce the pros and cons of some common active materials of the cathode (nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide, lithium nickel-cobalt-aluminum oxide, lithium manganese oxide and lithium-iron phosphate) and anode (graphite and SiO2), and discuss which nanotechnology is suitable for enhancement in the context of the cons for each active material. This research summarizes a few instances of electrode-active materials that actively employ nanotechnology.

A flexible sensor is a sensor made of flexible materials, generally composed of three layers: base layer, sensing layer, and packaging layer, can be widely used in medical electronics, biological monitoring, wearable electronics and other fields. Compared with traditional electronic devices, flexible electronics have cheap substrates and can be attached to curved surfaces to achieve sensing functions, which attract researchers in different fields. In recent years, the development of nanotechnology and polymer materials has greatly promoted the innovation of flexible electronics. This paper focuses on the application of nanotechnology in flexible sensing. Through horizontal induction and analysis of nanotechnologies in polymer -based sensors, hydrogel sensors, self-powered sensors and other sensors, suggestions for continuous detection and clinical treatment of sensors are put forward vertically. Achieving the structure and intrinsic flexibility of the flexible sensor substrate, deposition of the micro-circuit onto the substrate, encapsulation without breaking the ductility condition, maximizing its conductive, thermal and mechanical response, self-powered, degradability and other properties that meet human needs are all the focus of the flexible electronics discussion. In this paper, the structure, response and drug delivery of the flexible sensor will be analyzed and discussed from the Angle of material.

Strengthening artificial muscle of oil-water composite network by nanotechnology

Artificial muscle, as a new technology, has a broad application prospect and market in the future, which is more effectively applied to the medical repair of human muscle damage, enhance the strength performance of human muscle, and enrich the function of artificial robots. Nanotechnology is also a high-precision technology that can be added to artificial muscles to make expansion and contraction more reliable. Currently, nanotechnology is constantly innovating in artificial muscles. There have been examples of using artificial muscles to add touch systems for real-time interaction and temperature changes, as well as combining sacrificial coordination keys with mechanical training processes to allow artificial muscles to bear more than their own multiple weights. Carbon catheters using nanotechnology have been shown to contract by as much as 20%. However, while focusing on enhancing the performance of artificial muscles, the bionic ability of the material itself has been neglected, and the elasticity and stretch of the muscle is a major difficulty. Therefore, there are still some shortcomings and areas that can be improved in this field. In this paper, we discuss how to use carbon conduit nanotechnology to strengthen artificial muscles, which provides effective reference materials for human beings to better understand the application of artificial muscle nanotechnology.

Frequency dependence of nanorod self-alignment using microfluidic methods

Dielectrophoresis is a potential candidate for aligning nanorods on electrodes, in which the interplay between electric fields and microfluidics is critically associated with its yield. Despite much of previous work on dielectrophoresis, the impact of frequency modulation on dielectrophoresis-driven nanorod self-assembly is insufficiently understood. In this work, we systematically explore the frequency dependence of the self-alignment of silicon nanorod using a microfluidic channel. We vary the frequency from 1kHz to 1000 kHz and analyze the resulting alignments in conjunction with numerical analysis. Our experiment reveals an optimal alignment yield at approximately 100 kHz, followed by a decrease in alignment efficiency. The nanorod self-alignments are influenced by multiple consequences, including the trapping effect, induced electrical double layer, electrohydrodynamic flow, and particle detachment. This study provides insights into the impact of frequency modulation of electric fields on the alignment of silicon nanorods using dielectrophoresis, broadening its use in various future nanotechnology applications.

HydrogelFinder: A Foundation Model for Efficient Self-Assembling Peptide Discovery Guided by Non-Peptidal Small Molecules.

Self-assembling peptides have numerous applications in medicine, food chemistry, and nanotechnology. However, their discovery has traditionally been serendipitous rather than driven by rational design. Here, HydrogelFinder, a foundation model is developed for the rational design of self-assembling peptides from scratch. This model explores the self-assembly properties by molecular structure, leveraging 1,377 self-assembling non-peptidal small molecules to navigate chemical space and improve structural diversity. Utilizing HydrogelFinder, 111 peptide candidates are generated and synthesized 17 peptides, subsequently experimentally validating the self-assembly and biophysical characteristics of nine peptides ranging from 1-10 amino acids-all achieved within a 19-day workflow. Notably, the two de novo-designed self-assembling peptides demonstrated low cytotoxicity and biocompatibility, as confirmed by live/dead assays. This work highlights the capacity of HydrogelFinder to diversify the design of self-assembling peptides through non-peptidal small molecules, offering a powerful toolkit and paradigm for future peptide discovery endeavors.

Determining The Crystallite Size of TiO2/EG-Water XRD Data Using the Scherrer Equation

<p class="Abstract">X-ray diffraction (XRD) data and the Scherrer equation were utilized to analyze the crystallite Size of titanium dioxide (TiO<sub>2</sub>) in a solution of ethylene glycol (EG) and distilled water. The XRD analysis was conducted using a Rigaku Miniflex 600 instrument with an X-ray wavelength of approximately 0.15046 nm. The examination yielded the full-width half maximum (FWHM), which was subsequently examined using the Scherrer equation. This experiment employed TiO<sub>2</sub> with a purity level of 99.8% and a crystal Size of 30 nm. The analysis revealed that the average crystallite Size of TiO<sub>2</sub> in the sample is 19.45 nm, with the highest measurement at about 30.38 nm. The Spearman correlation equation was employed to validate the outcomes. The Spearman's correlation coefficient between the FWHM variable and the crystallite Size of TiO<sub>2</sub> nanoparticles is -0.958. These findings shed light on the crystal structure of TiO<sub>2</sub> under these conditions. These findings lend support to the use of TiO<sub>2</sub> in a variety of nanotechnology applications. However, more research is needed to understand fully how crystallite-Size TiO<sub>2</sub> nanoparticles work in different settings and to find the best ways to prepare samples, including understanding the specific phase and how it affects the stability of fluids. This research contributes significantly to the understanding of the properties of TiO<sub>2</sub> in a solution of distilled water and EG, as well as to the characterization of nanomaterials, with particular emphasis on issue 9 of the SDGS Goal concerning industry, innovation, and infrastructure.</p>

Nanotechnology-based biodiesel: A comprehensive review on production, and utilization in diesel engine as a substitute of diesel fuel

As a sustainable replacement for fossil fuels, biodiesel is a game-changer in the energy sector. There is no strategy to minimize biodiesel's significance as a sustainable, clean fuel source in light of the increasing climate change and environmental sustainability concerns. Nevertheless, conventional biodiesel production methods often run into problems like inadequate conversion efficiency and inappropriate fuel properties, which impede their broad adoption. The revolutionary potential of nanotechnology to circumvent these limitations and revolutionize biodiesel consumption and production is explored in this review paper. There are new possibilities for improving biodiesel output and engine efficiency, thanks to nanotechnology, which can alter matter at the atomic and molecular levels. Using nano-catalysts, nano-emulsification processes, and nano-encapsulation procedures, researchers have made significant advances in improving biodiesel qualities such as stability, combustion efficiency, and viscosity. Through a comprehensive analysis of current literature and research data, this article elucidates the crucial role of nanotechnology in advancing biodiesel technology. By shedding light on the most current advancements, challenges, and potential future outcomes in nano-based biodiesel manufacturing and consumption, this review hopes to add to the growing corpus of knowledge in the field and inspire additional innovation. In conclusion, there is great hope for a sustainable energy future, increased economic growth, and reduced environmental impacts through the application of nanotechnology.  

The Impact of a Nanotechnology-Based Training Program on the Development of Digital Competencies among High School Biology Teachers

This study aimed to investigate the impact of a training program based on nanotechnology applications on the development of digital competencies among high school biology teachers. There is a gap between teachers' current digital competencies and the skills needed to effectively leverage nanotechnology in biology education. The study found statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores on a digital competency assessment after teachers completed the nanotechnology training program. The program encompassed fundamental nanoscience knowledge, biology-specific applications, digital skills training, and hands-on activities. Results showed a large effect size, indicating the substantial impact of the intervention on enhancing teachers' digital competencies. Recommendations highlight integrating nanotechnology into science curricula and emphasize biology connections, problem-solving, content creation, and ethical considerations regarding advanced nanomaterials. Promoting teacher motivation and scientific inquiry is vital. The research addresses an urgent need to equip biology educators with digital skills aligned with rapidly evolving science and technology.

Redesigning Humans in the Nano-Age

The blurring boundaries between therapy and human enhancement raise a lot of ethical questions that need to be addressed. Therapy is healing and restoring the sick to health; enhancement is improving the normal functioning of the body. With nanomedicine, the boundary becomes even hazier. Nanomedicine refers to the application of nanotechnology to the prevention and treatment of diseases. The European Science Foundation defines it as the science and technology of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease and traumatic injury, relieving pain, and preserving and improving human health using molecular tools and knowledge of the human body (ESF, 2005). While nanomedicine delivers numerous and unprecedented benefits to the health and general well-being of individuals, nano- enabled human enhancement technologies will be the gateway to the transhumanist vision of immortality. Transhumanism contends that through the advancements in science and technology, we can overcome our physical and cognitive limitations, extend human lifespan, and attain perpetual existence. The blurring boundaries between enhancement will have remarkable consequences on what it means to be a human being. The study will make use of New and Emerging Science and Technology (NEST) Ethics as a framework for addressing dichotomous approaches and polarizing perspectives on human enhancement.

Anisotropic Cu2O nanostructures: A promising remediation for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

Copper oxide (Cu2O) exhibits exceptional optical properties and phase stability at the nanoscale level making it highly desirable in nanotechnology applications. Its unique and distinctive properties make it highly feasible for diverse applications, which include environmental remediation, energy conversion, and catalysis. In this study, we tailor the surface and facet orientation of Cu2O nanoparticles to enhance their efficacy in addressing environmental contaminants such as per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS). By adjusting the ratios of the precursor and capping agent, we have synthesized Cu2O nanocubes (NCs) and octahedra (Oh) with average sizes of 450 nm and 650 nm, respectively. The time-dependent UV–Vis interaction studies revealed significant redshifts in absorption spectra upon the addition of Cu2O NCs and Oh to the PFAS solutions, indicative of the changes in the surroundings upon the interaction. FT-IR spectra further confirmed the sorption of PFAS on Cu2O nanostructures with stronger adsorption observed for longer-chain PFAS due to enhanced hydrophobic interactions. XPS analysis further provided insights into the surface composition changes after post-interaction, indicating the presence of PFAS on Cu2O nanostructures. The zeta potential analysis supported the role of electrostatic interactions in PFAS removal. Our results demonstrate that Cu2O Oh exhibits superior PFAS adsorption compared to Cu2O NCs, which is attributed to the exposed facets of a copper atom having a positive surface charge and facilitating electrostatic interactions. Specifically, Cu-terminated (110) or (111) surfaces exhibit enhanced sorption capacity, while the reduced reactivity of Cu-terminated Cu2O (100) surfaces is linked to high energy barrier holes at the surface region. Overall, this study elucidates the interaction mechanisms between Cu2O nanostructures and PFAS which underscores the significance of surface engineering for optimizing their performance in environmental remediation strategies.

Advancement in Carbon Nanoparticle Synthesis and Their Application: A Comprehensive Review

The global population gradually increase at an alarming state, which would increase demand for food globally. This increasing use of pesticides and fertilizers. In order to meet this demand, an overview of the numerous applications of nanotechnology for agriculture. Various nanomaterials like nanofertilizers and pesticides enhance soil fertility and crop productivity. However, excessive chemical fertilizer use as per FAO, 2017. Among these, the nanotechnology has wide range of applications in healthcare and medicines, diagnosis etc. Recently, carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) play a significant role in various fields. Carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) represent innovative nanostructures. These can be synthesized by different methods, green synthesis as well as chemical synthesis such as arch discharge method, laser ablation method, chemical vapour deposition method etc. The advancement of CNPs entails the exploration of diverse synthetic techniques and exploration of various application due to their chemical and physical properties in healthcare, agriculture (for delivery of agrochemicals) etc. These are also used in plant growth enhancement and resistance to stresses. However, challenges related to precisely defining CNP structures and ensuring property uniformity remain inadequately addressed and lack detailed study. In this review article we emphasize methodologies for the synthesis of CNPs by various chemical methods and also include their applications in therapeutics, pharmaceuticles, sensing and agriculture.

Nanotechnology for Pain Management.

Introduction: In the context of the current opioid crisis, non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management have been considered important alternatives to the use of opioids or analgesics. Advancements in nano and quantum technology have led to the development of several nanotransporters, including nanoparticles, micelles, quantum dots, liposomes, nanofibers, and nano-scaffolds. These modes of nanotransporters have led to the development of new drug formulations. In pain medicine, new liposome formulations led to the development of DepoFoam™ introduced by Pacira Pharmaceutical, Inc. (Parsippany, NJ, USA). This formulation is the base of DepoDur™, which comprises a combination of liposomes and extended-release morphine, and Exparel™, which comprises a combination of liposomes and extended-release bupivacaine. In 2021, Heron Therapeutics (San Diego, CA, USA) created Zynrelef™, a mixture of bupivacaine and meloxicam. Advancements in nanotechnology have led to the development of devices/patches containing millions of nanocapacitors. Data suggest that these nanotechnology-based devices/patches reduce acute and chronic pain. Methods: Google and PubMed searches were conducted to identify studies, case reports, and reviews of medical nanotechnology applications with a special focus on acute and chronic pain. This search was based on the use of keywords like nanotechnology, nano and quantum technology, nanoparticles, micelles, quantum dots, liposomes, nanofibers, nano-scaffolds, acute and chronic pain, and analgesics. This review focuses on the role of nanotechnology in acute and chronic pain. Results: (1) Nanotechnology-based transporters. DepoDur™, administered epidurally in 15, 20, or 25 mg single doses, has been demonstrated to produce significant analgesia lasting up to 48 h. Exparel™ is infiltrated at the surgical site at the recommended dose of 106 mg for bunionectomy, 266 mg for hemorrhoidectomy, 133 mg for shoulder surgery, and 266 mg for total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Exparel™ is also approved for peripheral nerve blocks, including interscalene, sciatic at the popliteal fossa, and adductor canal blocks. The injection of Exparel™ is usually preceded by an injection of plain bupivacaine to initiate analgesia before bupivacaine is released in enough quantity from the depofoarm to be pharmacodynamically effective. Finally, Zynrelef™ is applied at the surgical site during closure. It was initially approved for open inguinal hernia, abdominal surgery requiring a small-to-medium incision, foot surgery, and TKA. (2) Nanotechnology-based devices/patches. Two studies support the use of nanocapacitor-based devices/patches for the management of acute and chronic pain. A randomized study conducted on patients undergoing unilateral primary total knee (TKA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA) provided insight into the potential value of nanocapacitor-based technology for the control of postoperative acute pain. The results were based on 2 studies, one observational and one randomized. The observational study was conducted in 128 patients experiencing chronic pain for at least one year. This study suggested that compared to baseline, the application of a nanocapacitor-based Kailo™ pain relief patch on the pain site for 30 days led to a time-dependent decrease in pain and analgesic use and an increase in well-being. The randomized study compared the effects of standard of care treatment to those of the same standard of care approach plus the use of two nanocapacitor-based device/patches (NeuroCuple™ device) placed in the recovery room and kept in place for three days. The study demonstrated that the use of the two NeuroCuple™ devices was associated with a 41% reduction in pain at rest and a 52% decrease in the number of opioid refills requested by patients over the first 30 days after discharge from the hospital. Discussion: For the management of pain, the use of nano-based technology has led to the development of nano transporters, especially focus on the use of liposome and nanocapacitors. The use of liposome led to the development of DepoDur™, bupivacaine Exparel™ and a mixture of bupivacaine and meloxicam (Zynrelef™) and more recently lidocaine liposome formulation. In these cases, the technology is used to prolong the duration of action of drugs included in the preparation. Another indication of nanotechnology is the development of nanocapacitor device or patches. Although, data obtained with the use of nanocapacitors are still limited, evidence suggests that the use of nanocapacitors devices/patches may be interesting for the treatment of both acute and chronic pain, since the studies conducted with the NeuroCuple™ device and the based Kailo™ pain relief patch were not placebo-controlled, it is clear that additional placebo studies are required to confirm these preliminary results. Therefore, the development of a placebo devices/patches is necessary. Conclusions: Increasing evidence supports the concept that nanotechnology may represent a valuable tool as a drug transporter including liposomes and as a nanocapacitor-based device/patch to reduce or even eliminate the use of opioids in surgical patients. However, more studies are required to confirm this concept, especially with the use of nanotechnology incorporated in devices/patches.

These applications mostly involve the investigation of how nanoparticles flow through porous materials, the development of nanosensors, and the utilization of nanoparticles to enhance the effectiveness of drilling fluids and increase oil recovery. Nanotechnology is employed to investigate the transport mechanisms of hydrocarbons in nanoporous media and nanoparticles in porous media. This has emerged as a crucial method for assessing hydrocarbon resources. Nanoparticles (NPs) are employed to create temperature and magnetic sensors, as well as imaging techniques, for precise detection of reservoir characteristics and downhole conditions. Nanotechnology has proven to be highly effective in the field of drilling, showcasing its extensive range of possibilities. The addition of NPs improves the rheological properties of drilling fluids, ensures safe drilling, reduces fluid losses, seals nanopores and inhibits shale hydration, and stabilizes the wellbore. Drilling fluids containing NPs are particularly well-suited for situations with high pressure and high temperature. NPs can enhance the effectiveness of fracking fluids by improving their cleanliness, stability, and resistance to friction. Whether hot or cold, NPs show great potential for enhanced oil recovery in thermal and non-thermal chemical flooding. In conclusion, nanotechnology improves the efficiency of exploration, production as well as storage and transportation of oil and gas resources. This study aims to provide academics with a thorough comprehension of the most recent implementations of nanomaterials in the oil and gas industry, while also examining the obstacles and prospects for the future.

Nanomaterials in Antibacterial Photodynamic Therapy and Antibacterial Sonodynamic Therapy

AbstractAntibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and antibacterial sonodynamic therapy (aSDT) utilize sensitizers (photosensitizers/sonosensitizers) to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) for antibacterial treatment under the stimulation of light/ultrasound, which have the characteristics of broad‐spectrum antibacterial properties, low drug‐resistance, and effective targeting of infected tissues. Nanomaterials in aPDT/aSDT are primarily used as nano‐sensitizers or nano‐carriers of sensitizers. They enhance the stability and permeability of sensitizers, improve targeting of sensitizers, strengthen photodynamic/sonodynamic properties of sensitizers (modification of sensitizers absorption efficiency and light/ultrasonic response stress by modulation of nanoparticle shape, size, and structure). Also, they improve modifiability of sensitizers (controlling the release rate and time of the sensitizer as needed to optimize the therapeutic effect), enhance programmability and multifunctionality of sensitizers (flexible application of nanotechnology for designing sensitizers with multiple functions, such as drug delivery, targeted therapy, and therapeutic monitoring), and expand possibilities for combination therapies (the nano‐carriers can be loaded with other therapeutic agents, enabling combination therapies). Nanomaterials are expected to further promote the development of aPDT/aSDT and achieve improved antibacterial effects. This review summarizes the progress in nanomaterials in aPDT/aSDT in recent years and based on the current development strategies to provide a theoretical reference for the application of nanomaterials in aPDT/aSDT.
