Research on Enterprise Cost Control Based on Lean Production

<p>Taking the cost control research and improvement process of Chaoyang steering gear production company as an example, this paper studies the enterprise cost control based on lean production. First of all, the problems existing in the production process and organizational structure of enterprises are analyzed. Secondly, the causes of the problem are analyzed. Then, according to the location of the problem, combined with the cause of the problem, it solves the cost control problem of the enterprise from the perspective of lean. Finally. the corresponding improvement results are evaluated and analyzed. This paper combines lean production with cost control, and puts forward another application of lean production, which reflects that lean production is an effective method for enterprises to reduce costs and improve efficiency.</p>

Examining the viability of lean production practices in the Industry 4.0 era: an empirical evidence based on B2B garment manufacturing sector

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the influence of the interrelationship between the deployment of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies and the application of lean production (LP) practices on the degree of organizational sustainability performance (SP) enhancement of the Bangladeshi ready-made garment (RMG) sector.Design/methodology/approachPreviously, researchers have applied the resource-based view (RBV) or dynamic capability view (DCV) to describe the interaction of resources and capacities (technologies, management practices, SP) to analyze their effectiveness. However, in light of several contemporary academic discussions, this study contends that these organizational views are inappropriate for explicating SP. Hence, as the foundation of this study’s theoretical framework, the authors used the practice-based view (PBV), which is recommended as a useful window to evaluate the function of practices that are common and simple to emulate in execution. To test the theoretical framework and research hypothesis, this study used partial least square (PLS) analysis. For that, the authors carried out a systematic survey to collect data from 80 Bangladeshi RMG factories.FindingsThe results of this research imply that LP is a crucial factor in enhancing organizational SP. Moreover, the results also indicate that the adoption of I4.0 technologies along with LP can assist in delivering the lean objectives more efficiently and, therefore, the combined application of LP practices and I4.0 technologies play a significant role in enhancing organizational SP.Originality/valueThough the present literature indicates the probable significant association between LP and SP or I4.0 technologies and SP, no study, with the best of the authors’ knowledge, has empirically examined the combined impacts of correlation between LP and I4.0 on SP. This is also a unique study to apply the PBV theory to explain the organizational SP through the combination of common resources and technologies.

Measuring leanness index using fuzzy logic approach

Continuing competitive advantage will be a goal that will be increased by all types of industry to win the competition. The application of Lean production is a necessity for the industry to be able to increase the competitive advantage. This competitive advantage is achieved by waste elimination and cost reduction programs through the implementation of lean practice. In its implementation, there are many obstacles that occur, including lack of understanding and implementation of lean production that should be carried out. Leanness is a measure of the level of implementation of lean practices. In this paper, the dimensions that are the main areas of concern in lean production implementation are quality, customer, process, human resource and delivery-supplier. By using the advantages of fuzzy logic in performance appraisal and giving qualitative importance to avoid data impreciseness and vagueness. The built-in fuzzy linguistic level is used to identify the position of the industry at the level of application of lean production expressed by Fuzzy Leanness Index. The built model can be used for assessment and identify areas in the industry that have and have not contributed to the implementation of lean production.

Functional structural change of lean and pulled industrial production system: the flexibility case

Abstract: The present work aims to present an application of Lean Production and its tools in the production process of an industry manufacturer of furniture for industrial refrigeration. A strategic change was made and results were evaluated, considering the comparison between the current and future situation in the design of production volume, product characteristics, manufacturing time, and process analysis in relation to wastes, defects and storage of unnecessary materials, which can increase the cost of the final product. Likewise, the reduction or elimination of resources is also a trend from a sustainability perspective, as these inefficiencies can lead to increased consumption generated in production and impact the environment. Considering the importance of the Production Strategy aligned to the operations as a priority for the achievement of positive results, a theoretical, exploratory, bibliographical and descriptive reflection was carried out. The research conducted is of an applied nature and the methods of inductive and comparative approach have been adopted. The applicability of the Lean Production concepts and tools was analyzed and, through a case study, the productive process of the industry was investigated. The contribution is to certify that with the adoption of lean tools and thinking, it is possible to eliminate wastes, promoting improvements in the manufacturing process, and measuring financial gains. As a practical result, this strategic business reorganization reduced costs and improved the process, which has given rise to the level of competitiveness in a globalized economy.

Conceptual model of implementation of Lean Production in Russian enterprise

Taking as basis the research on the introduction and application of lean production (LP), the authors describe the development sequence of LP tools that allowed the formulation of a modern LP tools system. Considering also the classical principles of LP, the article proposes a conceptual model of the multidimensional modern content of LP based on a multi-level understanding of the LP apparatus and takes into account its organizational components and the scale of the required transformations in the organization's activities.

The modern behavior model of the economic entities aimed at obtaining positive economic dynamics demands maintenance of high level of quality and competitiveness of products. In article on the basis of large technological enterprise at the Republic of Mari El possibilities of application of lean production on the way of decrease in losses and increase in value of the made operations on the basis of continuous improvement are estimated. Level of competitiveness of the enterprise depending on scales of lean production methods is revealed. The importance of a human factor, namely management, motivation, an initiative, within submission of offers on improvements by personnel and also need of orientation to decrease in the accompanying transactional expenses is emphasized by transfer of information signals. On a concrete example of improving technological operation within design activities for improvements types of the got economic advantages are defined and their scale is estimated. Despite the extensive documentary base developed during the five-year period for the organization of introduction and application of lean production it is required to focus more attention to interrelations of consumer value and the amount of financial investments at implementation of the drafts on improvements introduced by employees of the enterprise.

Produção enxuta em operações de serviços: uma revisão sistemática

Este trabalho teve o objetivo de levantar a produção científica relevante sobre a aplicação da produção enxuta em operações de serviços, permitindo identificar lacunas de pesquisa a partir da análise crítica da literatura. Para isso, foram escolhidas as bases de dados Web of Knowledge e Scielo e, após definir os termos de busca e aplicar os filtros de seleção, obteve-se um portfólio de 51 artigos. Constatou-se que o setor de saúde responde pela grande maioria de aplicações práticas e que o estudo de caso tem sido o método de pesquisa mais utilizado nos trabalhos empíricos. Também foi observado que, embora o conceito de produção enxuta seja aceito e disseminado em algumas operações de serviços, a utilização de ferramentas da produção enxuta ainda é muito reduzida. Mesmo considerando os casos de sucesso, poucas evidências têm sido relatadas sobre os limites da aplicabilidade da produção enxuta em operações de serviços.

This paper systematically analysis the production situation of the punching line of F Company, and uses Single Minute Exchange of Die, Process Flow Diagram and ECRS principles to improve the punching line. After the improvement, the time that needed to exchange the die is shortened to half of the original.

Lean Manufacturing in Operations Management in Improving the Efficiency of Manufacturing Processes

In this paper, we discussed the application of Lean Production for the application efficiency of the use of workstations on an assembly line in a car plant. The main objective is to increase the efficiency of labor, which is one of the key indicators of the competitiveness of the company and is directly related to its cost of production and cost of the final product. In this context, we compared the efficiency analysis of individual workstations on the assembly line and then select those whose efficiency was the lowest. It was carried out detailed analysis of all operations and operations that are performed on these selected stations. On this basis, we identified unproductive time delays causing low efficiency. They represent an opportunity to improve the production process in the form of adjustments to labor standards and workplace. The result of this work was to increase efficiency while repealing specific job position, which has resulted in savings in production costs.

Application of lean production to reducing operational waste in a tile manufacturing process

Roofing tile manufacturing is a mass production process with high operational and inventory wastes and costs. Due to huge operational costs, excessive inventory and wastes, and quality problems, roofing tile manufacturers are trying to implement lean manufacturing practice in their operations in order to remain competitive in an increasingly competitive global market. The aim of this research is to evaluate the possibility of reducing the operational and inventory costs of the tile manufacturing process through waste minimization. This paper analyses the current waste situation in a tile manufacturing process and develops current and future value stream mapping for such a process with a view to implementing lean principles in manufacturing. The focus of the approach is on cost reduction by eliminating non-value-added activities.

Application of Lean Production in Company K

The implementation of lean production can reduce the inventory and increase production efficiency. Company K is the first one in the world producing vacuum equipment. It faces many problems of production management now. The implementation process of lean production in company K is studied, including 5S, value stream, JIT and Kanban pull mode, cell production and standardization. The aim of this research is to provide some suggestion to other companies to increase their management level and economic benefits.

Lean production and ERP systems in small- and medium-sized enterprises: ERP support for pull production

It is generally accepted that lean production improves manufacturing processes through the systematic application of lean practices, and equally assumed that present day IT systems, particularly ERP systems, are essential for companies seeking efficiency through organisational integration. Though lean production and ERP co-exist in many companies today, there is an ongoing argument in the scientific literature as to whether or not ERP systems can be used to support lean production principles, particularly pull production. By applying a multiple-case-study approach, we assess the functionality offered by ERP systems to support pull production. We develop and apply a capability maturity model that can be used to assess the extent to which the usage of a company's current ERP system supports pull production practices and to suggest modifications to the ERP system in order to better serve the company's pull system. We focus on the application of lean production and ERP within small- and medium-sized enterprises, as in these companies decisions on lean and ERP are generally made by the same decision maker, which improves construct validity.

The concurrent application of lean production and ERP: Towards an ERP-based lean implementation process

Lean production and enterprise resource planning systems are often quoted as being the two most important strategies for achieving competitive advantage in today's global manufacturing environments. Though IT has traditionally been viewed as a contributor to waste within lean production, we suggest that modern developments in IT and the onset of hybrid “push-pull” production control mechanisms have allowed ERP and lean approaches to converge towards a state where ERP systems can in fact be used to support the deployment of lean practices. This paper analyses typical lean and ERP implementation processes contained within the scientific literature, and by further examining a concurrent implementation process in real-time, we develop and propose a process for ERP-based lean implementations. Our findings suggest that the implementation of a contemporary ERP system can act as a catalyst for the application of lean production practices.

Productivity Improvement with Lean Production in Glove Manufacturing Industry

The study illustrates the application of lean production in a glove manufacturing company in south China. Glove manufacturing has the following production steps, cutting, sewing, pruning, checking, ironing, and packing. With the strong support from the company’s top management and the cooperation with a lean consulting company, the alignment on lean production at different level of management and operators is reached. Value Stream Mapping is used to develop current state mapping showing as-is model. Future state mapping with to-be model is planned through the re-thinking and re-design from “zero”. Significant improvement in lead time reduction and productivity increase are achieved in pilot lean lines. Expansion of the best-practice at lean lines to the other production lines is in progress.

Moving from lean manufacturing to lean construction: Toward a common sociotechnological framework

Since the early 1990s, the construction industry has taken some interest in the application of lean production to its own case. A new body of research led by the International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC) has been exploring new techniques for the industry. In this article the techniques developed for lean construction are compared with those of lean manufacturing. Differences between the manufacturing and the construction cases showed why lean production does not fully suit the construction industry. Although some elements are in an embryonic state, lean construction has built a set of techniques that are transferable to any constructor. Lean manufacturing and lean construction share many common elements despite their different techniques. The need for a joint combination of technical and human elements shows that both approaches conform to a common sociotechnological design. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Application of lean production and agile manufacturing concepts in a telecommunications environment

Agile manufacturing, a strategy developed from lean production methods, is aimed at providing companies with the capabilities to succeed in the twenty‐first century, serving ever more sophisticated customer demand. In this paper, the application of this strategy, originally developed for manufacturing industry, is described in a telecommunications context. Examples of ways in which it is being used in BT are presented.
