Effects of Application of Different Organic Materials on Phosphorus Accumulation and Transformation in Vegetable Fields

Presently, the improvement of soil organic matter is the basis to ensure food security, but the accumulation and transformation characteristics of soil phosphorus (P) as affected by organic matter remain unclear. The accumulation, transformation, and migration characteristics of soil P in different soil layers of vegetable fields were researched under the application of organic materials. Six treatments were set up in the experiment:control (no fertilization), traditional fertilizer application by farmers, biochar, chicken manure, food waste, and straw application. Available phosphorus (Olsen-P), water-soluble phosphorus (CaCl2-P) content, soil phosphorus forms, soil organic matter (SOM), and pH were determined during the pepper harvest period. In the 0-5 cm and 5-10 cm soil layers, the available phosphorus content of traditional fertilization of farmers was higher, and the available phosphorus content of the four organic materials was in the order of straw > biochar > chicken manure > food waste. Compared to that with food waste, the straw and biochar treatments increased soil available phosphorus by 59.6%-67.3% and 29.1%-36.9%, respectively. The straw treatment could easily enhance the soil labile P pool, and soil labile P in the 0-5 cm soil layer increased by 47.3% and 35.1% compared with that under the chicken manure and food waste treatments, respectively. With the increase in soil depth, the proportion of available phosphorus in the chicken manure treatment decreased the least, and available phosphorus of the 20-30 cm soil layer accounted for 55.9% of the topsoil layer but only accounted for 16.0%-34.0% under treatment with the other three materials. Compared with that under the traditional fertilization of farmers, the pH significantly increased by 0.18-0.36 units after the application of organic fertilizer, and the pH of the chicken manure and food waste treatments was significantly higher than that of biochar and straw (P < 0.05). SOM content under the biochar treatment significantly increased by 7.7%-17.6% compared to that under the other three organic materials. Among the four organic materials, the straw treatment boosted the labile P pool the most, which was conducive to the rapid increase in plant-available P. Phosphorus was most likely to migrate downward under the chicken manure treatment. In the field management based on soil fertility enhancement, the application of biochar could not only improve soil pH and SOM but also avoid excessive accumulation of phosphorus in the surface layer, which decreases environmental risks.

Impacts of High-Frequency Chicken Manure Biochar Application on N2O and CH4 Emissions from Vegetable Field in Subtropical China

Vegetable production in Subtropical China is distinguished by excessive nitrogen (N) fertilization, frequent irrigation, and multiple crop rotations in a single year. The aforementioned variables are closely related to soil nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) emissions. Hence, we conducted a field trial to measure N2O and CH4 emissions using static chamber–gas chromatograph. Four treatments were used: control (CK) with no fertilizer, 100% chemical N fertilization (CN), the conventional 30% chicken manure N plus 70%CN (CMN + CN), and 30% chicken manure biochar N plus 70%CN (CMBN + CN). The annual cumulative N2O emissions reached 12.4, 63.5, 111.8, and 44.1 kg N2O-N ha−1 for the CK, CN, CMN + CN, and CMBN + CN treatments, respectively. Compared to the CN and CMN + CN treatments, the CMBN + CN treatment reduced N2O emissions by 35.9%–65.7%, while it simultaneously increased the total vegetable yield by 16.1% compared to the CN treatment. Seven seasons mean N2O emission factors are 1.3% for CN, 3.8% for CMN + CN, and 0.9% for CMBN + CN. The CH4 emission was negligible, ranging from 0.07 kg CH4-C ha−1 for the CK treatment to 0.8 kg CH4-C ha−1 for the CN treatment. N2O emissions peaked under the conditions of an interior chamber temperature of around 31.9 °C and the water-filled pore space (WFPS) of the soil being approximately 60%. Future climate change will intensify, triggering higher N2O emissions from subtropical vegetable fields. CMB can be one of the best substitutes for direct chicken manure application as a soil supplement because it has a beneficial effect on improving vegetable yield and reducing N2O emissions in Subtropical China.

Soil Fertility and Bacterial Community Composition in Response to the Composting of Biochar-Amended Chicken Manure

Amidst the burgeoning expanse of the poultry sector, the escalation of chicken manure production has ensued, potentially exacerbating ecological contamination. However, the application of chicken manure is bound to transmute the habitat of edaphic microorganisms, precipitating an alteration in the soil’s microbial consortium. The composting of biochar-amended chicken manure and wood chips (biochar composting products, BCPs) was used to improve Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L.) production and regulate soil properties and bacterial community structure. On the 40th day of Chinese cabbage growth, soil and Chinese cabbage were collected for laboratory analysis. The effects of different proportions of BCPs (0, 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% biochar) on soil fertility, enzyme activity, the microbial community and the growth of Chinese cabbage were studied under facility conditions. The results showed that the growth performance and quality of Chinese cabbage were significantly increased with increasing BCP ratios. Soil fertility indicators including pH, AN, AP, AK and SOM were significantly increased, except for the pH value in the 1% BCP group. The activities of phosphatase, catalase and urease were increased for all groups of BCP treatment. The soil microbial community response was significantly different, and the application of 5% and 7% BCPs reduced the abundance, diversity and evenness of soil bacteria. Chinese cabbage growth performance was positively correlated with an increase in BCP supplemental levels in the range of 3–5%. Also, the abundance, diversity and uniformity of the soil microbial community were improved in the 3% BCP treatment group. Therefore, the dominant bacterial phyla were Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteriota, Gemmatimonadota, Myxococcota, Bdellovibrionota and Firmicutes, especially the Bradyrhizobium of Proteobacteria. BCP treatment reduced the degradation of soil organic matter. In addition, it also improved the relative abundance of sequences associated with improving soil fertility. Collectively, these findings offer insights for the re-evaluation of application management strategies for BCP organic fertilizers.

Response in Growth Geronggang (Cratoxylon arborescens Vahl. Blume) Seddling by Giving Chicken Manure

One potential plant species for restoration in peat swamp forests is Cratoxylon arborescens. A well-managed nursery includes the application of chicken manure. This study aims to determine the effect and best dose of chicken manure fertilizer on the growth of Cratoxylon arborescens seedlings on peat planting media. This research used RAL (Completely Randomized Design) experimental method, which consisted of 4 treatments (P0 = control, P1 = 10% chicken manure + 90% peat, P2 = 30% chicken manure + 70% peat and P3 = 50% chicken manure + 50% peat) with 5 replications. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using variance analysis, followed by Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the 5% level. The results showed that chicken manure had a significant effect on the growth of Cratoxylon arborescens seedlings, because it was able to increase fertility and nutrient availability, improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of peat. The most effective and best treatment for four-month-old Cratoxylon arborescens seedlings was P2 (30% chicken manure + 70% peat) with 100% survival percentage, average height increase of 14.39 cm, average diameter increase of 1.56 mm, dry weight of 7.41 g and seedling robustness of 8.35

Enhancing Leaf Flavonoid Production in Indian Camphorweed (Pluchea indica Less.) through the Provision of Chicken Manure

Indian camphorweed (Pluchea indica Less.) leaves exhibit antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities, indicating significant potential for the pharmaceutical industry. This research aimed to determine the optimal rates of chicken manure for enhancing leaf and total flavonoid production in Pluchea indica. The study took place at the IPB Experimental Station in Bogor, Indonesia,spanning from July to October 2023. A completely randomized block design with a single factor (chicken manure doses) was employed: 0, 2.5, 5, or 7.5 kg per plant. Each treatment comprised three replications, each consisting of 20 plants. The results revealed that the application of chicken manure at 2.5 kg per plant led to significantly taller plants, more leaves, and tertiary branches compared to the control group. Specifically, the 2.5 kg dosage significantly increased the nitrogen content of the 7th leaf and the potassium content of the 3rd leaf. Meanwhile, the application of 5 kg of chicken manure per plant significantly boosted phosphorus content in the 3rd and 7th leaves and potassium content in the 5th and 7th leaves. However, no significant differences were observed in total flavonoid and antioxidant activity across all leaf positions with chicken manure application. Plants receiving 5 kg of manure demonstrated the highest fresh leaf weight (81.64 g) and dry weight (38.27 g), which were significantly greater than those receiving 2.5 kg per plant or no manure. Despite these variations, flavonoid production per plant did not show a significant difference with manure application.

Pengaruh Kombinasi Pupuk Kandang Ayam dan Ekstrak Kompos Ampas Kopi terhadap Sifat Kimia Tanah Ultisol

Ultisol has problems such as soil acidity <5.5, high Al saturation >42%, low organic matter <1.15%, low nutrients such as 0.14% N, P 5.80 ppm, and low base saturation < 35%. Chicken manure is an organic material that alters soil pH and increases total N, total P, and P uptake. Coffee grounds can increase pH, N nutrients, organic matter, available P, prevent fungal growth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of feeding chicken manure and coffee grounds compost extract in increasing pH, increasing N availability, decreasing exchangeable Al, and increasing P availability of Ultisol. The research method used was a one-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Factors tested were chicken manure, coffee grounds compost extract, and a combination of the two up to five treatments. K0 = Control, no chicken manure and coffee grounds compost extract; K1 = Coffee grounds compost extract 4 kL ha-1; K2 = Chicken manure 2 tons ha-1; K3 = Chicken manure 2 tons ha-1 + coffee grounds compost extract 4 kL ha-1; K4 = Chicken manure 4 tons ha-1 + coffee grounds compost extract 8 kL ha-1. Each treatment was replicated four times for 20 experiments. The results showed that the application of chicken manure and coffee grounds compost extract decreased soil pH, and soil exchangeable Al and increased soil ammonium, nitrate and available P levels.

Pengaruh Pemberian Berbagai Macam Bahan Organik terhadap Ketersediaan Hara Nitrogen, Fosfor dan Kalium serta Serapan Nitrogen oleh Jagung (Zea mays L.) pada Tanah Ultisols

Ultisols distributes spreadly in Indonesia, but this soil has low fertility. Therefore, the application of organic matter (OM) is a common management to increase this soil fertility. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of different types of OM (originated from animals and plants) on the availability of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium as well as nitrogen uptake in maize in Ultisols. Soil with a mass of 5 kg without organic matter (control), with the application of chicken manure, cow manure, swallow manure, kirinyuh, babadotan, and kalopo manure were incubated in experimental pots for two weeks at 60% field capacity. After the completion of the incubation period, soil sub-sampling was carried out for the determination of available N, available P and exchangeable K. Furthermore, in each experimental pot, corn seeds were planted, and the observations of dried-weight of corn and nitrogen uptake in corn were observed in a vegetative phase. The results showed that the application of different types of organic matter increased soil pH, nitrate content, exchangeable K, plant dried-weight and plant nitrogen uptake. The content of ammonium and available P was not affected by OM addition. The results also showed that OM derived from animals resulted in higher increases in pH and exchangeable K than those derived from plants. However, OM derived from plants resulted in higher increases in nitrate, plant dry weight and better plant N uptake than OM from animal waste. The results of this study show that the application of OM results in increases in some soil chemical properties, in which the degree of increases in soil chemical characteristics is controlled by the OM origin.

PENGARUH PEMBERIAN PUPUK KANDANG AYAM DAN PUPUK NPK 17:17:17 TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BIBIT TANAMAN PORANG (Amorphophallus oncophyllus)

This study aims to determine the effect of giving chicken manure and NPK 17:17:17 fertilizer to the growth of Porang seedlings, as well as the interaction between the two. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 2 factorials, namely, treatment of chicken manure (K) doses with 3 levels, namely: K1 = 20 gr/polybag, K2 = 40 gr/polybag and K3 = 60 gr/polybag, and treatment dose of NPK 17:17:17 (N) fertilizer with 3 levels, namely: N1 = 5 gr/polybag, N2 = 6 gr/polybag and N3 = 7 gr/polybag. The parameters observed in this study were: plant height (cm), stem diameter (cm), leaf width (cm) and number of leaves (strands). The results showed that the application of chicken manure had a significant effect on the leaf width parameter (cm). The best results were obtained in the K2 treatment (40 g/polybag). The application of NPK 17:17:17 fertilizer had a very significant effect on plant height (cm), stem diameter (cm) and number of leaves (strands). The best results were obtained in the N1 treatment (5 g/polybag). There is no interaction between chicken manure and NPK fertilizer 17:17:17.

Response of Growth and Seed Yield of Mung Bean (Vigna radiata L.) to Chicken Manure and Banana Hump Liquid Organic Fertilizer Application

Mung bean is highly important legume crop in Indonesia. Attempts to improve the yield and quality of mung bean seeds can be done through improving the planting media by adding organic fertilizer. The objective of this study was to determine the response of growth and seeds production of mung bean due to chicken manure and banana hump organic fertilizer. The research was performed in the greenhouse at the Balai Pengujian Standar Instrumen Tanaman Aneka Kacang (BSIPTAKA), Muneng Probolinggo. This study was structured in a factorial block design with three replications executed randomly. The first factor was doses of CM consisting of 0, 8.3, 16.7, and 25 ton/ha. The second factor was concentrations of banana hump liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) consisting of 0, 10, 20, and 30 ml/L. The result showed that doses of CM had a significant effect on plant height at 10 DAP, seed weight per plant, and seed yield. The interaction between CM doses and banana hump LOF was able to increase leaf chlorophyll index at 30 DAP. Combination of 16.7 ton/ha CM and 20 ml/L banana hump LOF produced the highest average chlorophyll index of 55.07 CCI. Keywords: Chlorophyll index, Manure, Mung bean, Organic fertilizer, Seed.

Brokoli Üretiminde Tavuk Gübresinin İnorganik Azotla Rekabet Edebilirliğinin Değerlendirilmesi

Objective: This research was undertaken to evaluate the assessment of chicken manure's competitiveness with inorganic nitrogen in broccoli production.
 Material and Method: This study was conducted out in field conditions at the experimental area of Atatürk University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Erzurum, Türkiye, in 2021 and 2022. Two broccoli cultivars (Brassica oleracea var. italica, Plenk cvs. 'Burney F1' and 'Lucky F1') were used as plant material. While phosphate (200 kg P2O5 ha-1) was kept constant in the plots, 1000 kg ha-1 (CM-1), 2000 kg ha-1 (CM-2), and 4000 kg ha-1 (CM-3) chicken manure were applied additionally. The other application was planned according to the recommended dose of nitrogen (Ammonium nitrate (AN), 200 kg N ha-1). Head weight (g), diameter, and length (cm); dry matter contents of head (%); chlorophyll (SPAD); pH and soluble solid content (SSC) (%) content of heads and yield (kg ha-1) were recorded in harvested heads.
 Results: The head weight ranged from 81.2 g (control) to 295.4 g (AN). The head diameter and length changed from 6.4 cm and 4.9 cm (control) to 13.9 cm and 13.6 cm (AN), respectively. The highest chlorophyll (SPAD) content (87.6) was consistently observed in the AN application. CM applications were consistently lower than those from AN application for all cultivars and across both years. Furthermore, in CM applications, the highest yield was attained in 2021 at 16820 kg ha-1 (CM-3, 4000 kg ha-1), whereas the peak yield of 20618 kg ha-1 was recorded in the AN treatment in 2022.
 Conclusion: While the yield derived from chicken manure application falls below that achieved through AN application, it is worth noting that, in the context of environmentally sustainable production practices, the utilization of chicken manure at a rate of 4000 kg ha-1 can be advocated. As a result, chicken manure at a rate of 4000 kg ha-1 can be recommended to broccoli producers for environmentally friendly production.

Response differences of two maize hybrid varieties to the application of bioagent-ameliorant and chicken manure in fertile soil

To ensure adequate nutrition for the growth of maize (Zea mays L.) in sustainable agriculture, it is necessary to apply bio-agent soil conditioner and manure. This study aims to determine the effect of doses of bioagent-ameliorant and chicken manure on growth and yield components. The research was conducted in highland with an altitude 800 m above sea level. This study used an experimental method with two sets of experiments, namely experiments using one and two-cobs maize cultivars. The experiment used a randomized block design (RBD) with two treatment factors and three replications. The first treatment factor was the dose of bioagent ameliorant, which consisted of 3 levels, namely 0, 7.5, and 15 kg/ha, while the second factor was the dose of chicken manure, which consisted of 3 levels, namely 0.5 and 10 tons/ha. The observed growth components were plant height and number of leaves, while the yield components observed were cob length, cob diameter, cob weight per plant, and cob weight per plot. In research on two-cob maize experiment, there was no interaction effect between doses of soil conditioner and chicken manure, while the interaction effect on plant height occurred in one-cob maize experiment. The single effect of ameliorant doses could not increase all components of growth and yield, both in one and two-cob maize cultivars. The single effect of doses of chicken manure increased number of leaves, cob length, cob weight per plant, and cob weight per plot in one-cob maize cultivar, while increased plant height in two-cob maize cultivar.

The Effect of Providing Chicken Manure and Chicken Egg Shell Powder on the Growth and Yield of Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum L.) Plant

This study aims to determine the growth response and production of tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.). provision of chicken manure and chicken eggshell powder. This research was conducted in Blang Cirih Village, Peusangan Siblah Krueng District, Bireuen Regency, taking place from July to September 2023. The method used in this study was a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 2 factors and 3 repetitions. The first factor is the application of chicken manure which consists of 4 levels, namely A0 = control (without chicken manure), Al = 150 grams/polybag, A2 = 300 grams/polybag and A3 = 450 grams/polybag. The second factor was giving chicken egg shell powder which consisted of 4 levels, namely C0 = control (without chicken egg shell powder), C1 = 60 grams/polybag, C2 = 80 grams/polybag and C3 = 100 grams/polybag. Parameters observed were plant height, number of productive branches, fruit number, fruit diameter, fruit weight and fruit weight per plant. The results showed that the application of chicken manure affected all observed parameters and the administration of chicken egg shell powder affected all observed parameters, but did not affect the number of harvest I fruit. The treatment interaction had a significant effect on plant height at 45 HST, weight fruit and fruit diameter harvest I. The best application of chicken manure was found in treatment A3 450 grams/polybag and the best application of chicken egg shell powder was found in treatment C3 100 grams/polybag to increase the growth and yield of tomato plants.

INFLUENCE OF BACTERIA AND CHICKEN MANURE ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF BEAN (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

The effects of chicken manure and different bacteria applications on yield and yield components of beans were investigated in present study. The field experiment was conducted during the 2019 and 2020 at the experimental area of the Faculty of Agriculture, Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications. Chicken manure (chicken manure + and chicken manure -) were main plots and bacteria applications (control; traditional; rhizobia; bontera; traditional + rhizobia; traditional + bontera; rhizobia + bontera; traditional + rhizobia + bontera) were sub-plots. All of the investigated characters were higher in second year than first year except for harvest index and hundred kernel weight due to especially June precipitation in second year. Application of chicken manure positively affected important yield components, chlorophyll content and yield. In general, the application of bacteria alone or together has positively affected yield and yield components. The highest yield was obtained from traditional+rhizobia+bontera application. Consequently; it was determined that the efficiency of bacteria increased with the application of chicken manure and positive results were obtained in yield and yield components of beans.

EFECTUL FERTILIZĂRII CU GUNOI DE PASĂRE ASUPRA CREȘTERII ȘI FRUCTIFICĂRII LA PRUN (PRUNUS DOMESTICA L.)

The investigation was conducted during the period 2018-2021 in an experimental plantation of the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil, Bulgaria with plum (Prunus domestica L.) cv. ʻStanleyʼ. The planting was created in 2013. Planting distances were 5x5 m. The following fertilization variants were investigated: V1 – unfertilized – (control), V2 – chicken manure 2.5 kg/tree, V3 – chicken manure 5.0 kg/tree. The correlation between the fertilizer rate and the trunk growth rate of the plum cv. ʻStanleyʼ was positive from the second year of chicken manure Vita organic application. The application of chicken manure at a rate of 2.5 kg/tree increased the canopy volume, and in the third year it was statistically significant at P<0.05 by 56.56%. On average for the period of the experiment, the fertilizer rate of 2.5 kg/tree increased the yield by 79.16%, and the average fruit weight by 5.93%. A higher content of dry matter and acids was found in the fruits at both fertilizer rates.

Effects of Different Manures in Combination with Fulvic Acid on the Abundance of N-Cycling Functional Genes in Greenhouse Soils

To investigate the effects of different manures in combination with fulvic acid on the abundance of N-cycling functional genes in greenhouse soils, Chinese cabbage was planted for three growing seasons. A total of six treatments—pig manure (P), pig manure + fulvic acid (PH), chicken manure (C), chicken manure + fulvic acid (CH), sheep manure (S), sheep manure + fulvic acid (SH) and no fertilization (CK)—were set up. The abundance of 13 soil N-cycling functional genes (gdhA, amoA-1, amoA-2, amoB, narG, nirK-1, nirK-2, nirK-3, nirS-1, nirS-2, nirS-3, nosZ and nifH) were investigated after the harvest of the third growing season using a gene chip approach. The results showed that fertilization treatments increased the abundance of most N-cycling functional genes in the soil, such as nitrification genes amoA-2 and amoB as well as denitrification genes narG, nirK-1, nirS-1 and nirS-2, with the stronger influence of sheep and pig manure than chicken manure. Fortunately, the additional fulvic acid reduced the increasing effect resulting from pig, chicken and sheep manure application. The abundance of functional genes for nitrogen cycling in soil was positively correlated with the content of soil organic matter, available phosphorus and NO3−-N, and negatively correlated with electrical conductivity. Overall, fertilization treatments increased soil nitrification and denitrification genes abundance, with a risk of increasing soil nitrogen loss, but the supplementary fulvic acid could limit the increase. In this study, it was concluded that the sheep manure (31.3 t/ha) + fulvic acid (7.5 kg/ha) treatment was more powerful in regulating the abundance of N-cycling functional genes in soil.

Chicken manure application alters microbial community structure and the distribution of antibiotic-resistance genes in rhizosphere soil of Cinnamomum camphora forests.

The distribution of antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) in environmental soil is greatly affected by livestock and poultry manure fertilization, the application of manure will lead to antibiotic residues and ARGs pollution, and increase the risk of environmental pollution and human health. Cinnamomum camphora is an economically significant tree species in Fujian Province, China. Here, through high-throughput sequencing analysis, significant differences in the composition of the bacterial community and ARGs were observed between fertilized and unfertilized rhizosphere soil. The application of chicken manure organic fertilizer significantly increased the relative abundance and alpha diversity of the bacterial community and ARGs. The content of organic matter, soluble organic nitrogen, available phosphorus, nitrate reductase, hydroxylamine reductase, urease, acid protease, β-glucosidase, oxytetracycline, and tetracycline in the soil of C. camphora forests have significant effects on bacterial community and ARGs. Significant correlations between environmental factors, bacterial communities, and ARGs were observed in the rhizosphere soil of C. camphora forests according to Mantel tests. Overall, the findings of this study revealed that chicken manure organic fertilizer application has a significant effect on the bacterial community and ARGs in the rhizosphere soil of C. camphora forests, and several environmental factors that affect the bacterial community and ARGs were identified.

The Effect of Chicken Manure and Triple Super Phospat Fertilizer on The Growth of Purple Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata) on Andisol

Cabbage plants (Brassica oleracea) belong to the Brassicaceae family, is a vegetable that is widely cultivated by farmers in rural Indonesia. In an effort to increase the productivity of purple cabbage it is necessary to carry out soil management. Andisol is one type of soil that is relatively fertile but has a high level of P absorption so it is necessary to add Chicken Manure and TSP Fertilizer. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of treatment and response from the combination of treatment on the application of chicken manure and TSP fertilizer on the growth and production of purple cabbage plants. The research design used was a group randomized design (RAK) with 2 factors arranged factorially. The first factor is chicken manure fertilizer which consists of 3 levels, namely: K1 = chicken manure fertilizer 10 tons / ha (50 grams / polybag), K2 = chicken manure fertilizer 20 tons / ha ( 100 grams / polybag) and, K3 = chicken manure fertilizer 30 tons / ha ( 150 grams / polybag). The second factor of TSP fertilizer consists of 3 levels, namely: T1 = TSP 200 kg / ha ( 1 gram / polybag), T2 = TSP 300 kg / ha ( 1.5 grams / polybag) and, T3 = TSP 400 kg / ha ( 2 grams / polybag). Treatment of Chicken Manure (K), TSP fertilizer, and Interaction (KxT) had no real effect (P ≥0.05) on the variables of maximum plant height, maxmium leaf count, root length, flower crop diameter and wet weight of crop per plant.
 
 

Growth and Yield of Green Eggplant Applied to Various Compositions of Growing Media

Green eggplant was a vegetable which used for cooking ingredients and has rich nutrients. To increase the green eggplant productivity, it was necessary to improve the quality of growing media so the plant nutrition will be fulfilled. This study aimed to find out the best composition of growing media for the growth and yield of green eggplant. It used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 10 treatments for the composition of the growing media. The results of the analysis of diversity showed that the application of rice husk charcoal and chicken manure had a very significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, flowering age, harvest age, number of fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit diameter, and total fruit weight per plant. The results of the orthogonal contrast test showed that the green eggplant grown on soil media was very significantly different from the green eggplant grown on other growing media in all variables. The best results were obtained from the treatment of rice husk charcoal: chicken manure: soil (2:1:1) on the variables of plant height was 42.26 cm, flowering age was 22.33 days, total fruit weight per plant was 538.44 g, fruit diameter was 38.16 mm, and average weight per fruit was 81.66 g. The treatment of growing media composition using a combination of chicken manure and rice husk charcoal was better than the growing media with just one organic matter.

The use of animal manure for improving chemical properties of degraded Ultisol, yield, and secondary metabolic of Zingiber montanum

Ultisols in Indonesia have the potential for agricultural development, but the soils have low pH and nutrient contents that hinder plant growth and yield. Using animal manure can be an alternative to improve soil productivity and crop yields. This study aimed to examine the effects of animal manure on the chemical properties of Ultisol, yield, and secondary metabolic of <em>Zingiber montanum</em>. The treatments tested were combinations of types of manure (cow and chicken manure) and manure application levels, namely P0 (control), P1 (cow manure 20 t/ha), P2 (cow manure 40 t/ha), P3 (cow manure 60 t/ha), P4 (chicken manure 20 t/ha), P5 (chicken manure 40 t/ha), and P6 (chicken manure 60 t/ha). The results showed that the application of chicken manure of 60 t/ha increased N and P contents of the soil, and the application of cow manure of 60 t/ha increased soil cation exchange capacity. The application of cow manure of 60 t/ha gave the highest plant height, the number of leaves, and the number of at 18 weeks after planting, while the application of chicken manure dose of 60 t/ha produced the longest plant roots. The highest fresh and dry rhizome weight was observed for the 60 t/ha cow manure treatment. The highest secondary metabolic levels in each parameter were found in dry rhizomes (phenolic, flavonoid, and tannin) and fresh rhizomes (phenolic and flavonoid), with the highest tannin compound in the treatment of 40 t chicken manure/ha. The application of chicken manure at a dose of 60 t/ha resulted in a strong antioxidant yield in fresh and dry rhizomes.
