Maintenance management – an AHP application for centralization/decentralization

The decision to centralize or decentralize different functions of a maintenance department in a plant has not been traditionally made on a systematic and quantitative basis. This paper proposes a systematic model for evaluating different maintenance organizational structures with respect to the objectives of a maintenance department. Based on a group decision process, the model provides step‐by‐step guidelines for the maintenance management and decision makers to go through the evaluation process. A case example is shown, which involves four alternative organizational structures. Examples are given to show the calculation process for grouping the assessments of individual team members and for final analysis towards the evaluation of the organizational alternatives.

Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchical Process for Selecting a Bank

This study illustrates the application of fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP) to a decision-making problem. AHP is a popular and powerful method for solving Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problems. In this paper, the application of Fuzzy AHP to the decision-making problem of selecting a suitable Bank is illustrated. The benefit of AHP is its capability to accommodate subjectivity and inconsistency in human judgments. It can deal with ill-structured and multi-criteria problems without severe complexities. The uncertainty in assigning relative importance to different criteria and attributes leads to the inclusion of fuzzy logic into the structure of the AHP paradigm. One such application is illustrated in the present study.

An AHP application to computer system selection

Computer application development is an area of explosive growth, providing dramatic new capabilities to do additional work faster and more accurately. In the construction industry, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) systems make it possible to more completely specify work to be done. Some project owners require drawings be submitted in magnetic form. Therefore, it is necessary for construction and engineering firms to acquire and develop expertise in state of the art computer systems. Because many system configurations are available, selection of CADD systems is an important decision, requiring consideration of a number of objectives. AHP is used to combine cost factors with subjective factors. AHP also is used to consider the impact on end users as a group and an central data processing.

Eliminating rank reversal in multicriteria analysis of urban transportation system alternatives

AbstractThis note shows how to eliminate rank reversal in practical applications of TODIM, a method for multicriteria ranking of projects. A technique for eliminating rank reversal is then utilized in applications of both TODIM and AHP to the same data base. A comparison of results suggests that those two alternative methods tend to lead to the same results.
