This research is based on the phenomenon of academic procrastination found in final students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo. Academic procrastination is task avoidance caused by feelings of displeasure with the task and fear of failing to complete the task. One of the factors that trigger academic procrastination is academic anxiety. The academic anxiety variable was measured using the academic anxiety scale adopted from Ridwan with a validity coefficient value moving from 0.926 -0.746 and an alpha reliability coefficient (α) value of 0.907. The academic procrastination variable was measured by the academic procrastination scale in completing the thesis adapted from Rahayu. with a validity coefficient value moving from 0.094 to 0.596 and with an alpha (α) reliability coefficient value of 0.858. The correlation between variables was analyzed using Spearman's Rho correlation test with the help of JASP 19.0 software. The results showed that there was a relationship between the two variables with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.703 with a significance (p) of 0.001 (<0.05).

Study of psychosocial factors and endothelial dysfunction in coronary heart disease patients

Objective To provide valuable insight into the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease, this study aimed to explore the association between psychosocial elements and endothelial dysfunction in diagnosed patients. Methods Using a cross-sectional study design, we selected patients with coronary heart disease who visited the cardiology department of our hospital from January to December 2021. According to coronary angiography results, patients were divided into the coronary stenosis group (≥50%) and the normal coronary group (<50%), with 100 cases in each group. We assessed the levels of psychosocial factors using the Type A Behaviour Pattern Scale (TABP), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Endothelial synthesis of nitric oxide (NOx) and endothelium-dependent (EDF) and endothelium-independent (NEDF) vasodilation functions were measured and compared using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and colour Doppler ultrasonography, respectively. Results Patients in the coronary stenosis group had significantly higher scores in Type A behaviour, anxiety, and depression and significantly lower scores in social support compared with the normal coronary group (t = 3.21, 4.15, 3.87; p < 0.05; t = −2.96; p < 0.05). EDF, NEDF, and NOx levels were significantly lower in the coronary stenosis group than in the normal coronary group (t = −4.32, −3.76, −4.67; p < 0.05). Psychosocial factors were negatively correlated with endothelial function indices (r = −0.31 to −0.48; p < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that Type A behavioural anxiety, depression, and social support were independent risk factors influencing endothelial dysfunction (β = −0.23, −0.26, −0.21, −0.19; p < 0.05). Conclusion A close relationship was observed between psychosocial factors and endothelial dysfunction in patients with coronary heart disease. Assessment and intervention of psychosocial factors in these patients should be strengthened to improve endothelial function and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

The Efficacy of Brainspotting and Sand Therapy to Reduce Anxiety Symptoms in Children Aged 8-9

This study explored the use of Brainspotting (BSP) in combination with Sand Therapy (ST) for use with 8–to 9-year-old children with anxiety symptoms in a school-based setting. Using the Spence Children's Anxiety Scales (SCAS), The Behavior and Feelings Survey (BFS), and the Top Problems Assessment (TPA), the research project measured anxiety as reported by parents/caregivers and students, internalizing, externalizing, and total concerns as reported by parents/caregivers, teachers, and students, and finally individually identified unique concerns as reported by parents/caregivers, teachers, and students. The researcher collected data from student participants (11) who experienced six sessions of BSP and ST. The quantitative data collected identified project signifiers for future researchers. Outcomes reflected statistical significance of a reduction in anxiety scores for parents in the subscale of generalized anxiety and a significant reduction of scores in children in the subscales of generalized anxiety and separation anxiety. Parents and teachers indicated significantly lower scores in internalizing and total concerns identified across time intervals. All three groups of reporters indicated a significant reduction of top problems identified across time intervals. Outcomes demonstrate the promise of the integrated practice of BSP and ST while laying a framework for future research of this method.

Tracking the course of depressive and anxiety symptoms across adolescence (the CATS study): a population-based cohort study in Australia

Adolescent mental health appears to be in crisis, yet few studies have comprehensively charted the course of common mental disorders (CMDs; depression and anxiety) across this key life stage. We aimed to describe the course of CMD symptoms in adolescence by summarising annual prevalence, cumulative incidence, and course for depression and anxiety, both separately and as comorbid CMDs, by sex assigned at birth in a contemporary Australian cohort. The Child to Adult Transition Study (CATS) was established in 2012 to form a representative cohort of adolescents in Melbourne, VIC, Australia. 43 schools were recruited using a stratified sampling approach, and all 2289 students aged 8-9 years were invited to participate. 1239 (54·1%) students obtained parental written informed consent and were followed up annually from 2012 to 2019 for a total of ten waves. Data from waves 3-10 (ages 10 to 18 years) were used for the current study and analysed to describe the course of symptoms of CMDs across adolescence. Primary measures of interest were clinically relevant depressive symptoms, clinically relevant anxiety symptoms, and any CMD (clinically relevant depressive or anxiety symptoms) at waves 3-10. A secondary measure of interest was comorbid CMDs (concurrent reporting of clinically significant anxiety and depressive symptoms) at waves 3-10. Depressive symptoms in the past 2 weeks were self-reported using the 13-item validated Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (SMFQ) at each wave, with a threshold score of 12 or more indicating clinically relevant symptoms. Anxiety symptoms in the past two weeks were self-reported using an 8-item shortened version of the Spence Children's Anxiety Scale (SCAS) at each wave, with a threshold score of 11 or higher indicating clinically relevant symptoms. The course of CMDs was described using annual prevalence, cumulative incidence for depression and anxiety, separately and combined. Missing data were handled via multiple imputation. An author with lived experience was involved in the research and writing process. Of the 1239 adolescents who participated in the study, 667 (53·8%) were female and 572 (46·2%) were male. 769 (62·1%) of 1239 were classified as socioeconomically advantaged, 675 (66·4%) of the 1016 with available data had a mother whose highest level of education was vocational or tertiary, and 579 (70·7%) of the 819 participants with ethnicity data identified as Anglo-Celtic or European. Overall, incidence of any clinically significant CMD symptoms during adolescence was 74% (95% CI 70-77; 84% [81-88] for females and 61% [55-66] for males). Independently, incidences of clinically significant depressive symptoms and anxiety symptoms were 65% (62-68) and 58% (55-62), respectively. Incidence of comorbid CMD was 48% (45-52). The estimated mean ages of first report in adolescence for both sexes were 14·1 years (95% CI 13·9-14·4) and 13·6 years (3·3-13·9) for depressive and anxiety symptoms, respectively. Of those who reached the threshold score for any CMD between ages 10 and 18 years, over half had a chronic (three or more waves) course (depression 54% [49-60]; anxiety 52% [47-58]), and a third met criteria for full remission at any subsequent wave (depression 30% [25-35]; anxiety 33% [27-39]). Females were consistently estimated to have a worse course of adolescent CMDs compared with males (eg, 64% [58-70] of females had a chronic course of depressive symptoms vs 37% [26-48] of males). In this contemporary multi-wave cohort study, almost three-quarters of adolescents reported CMD symptoms. The likelihood of chronicity of CMD symptoms (ie, recurrence) was high. Anxiety Unveiled: A Cross-Sectional Study on High School Students in Rural Tamil Nadu

Background: Adolescence is a unique phase of human growth, marked by rapid cognitive, psycho-social, and physical development. Despite being a period of resilience, mental illnesses often begin during this stage. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anxiety disorders among high school students in rural Tamil Nadu. Methodology: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in high schools in the rural areas of Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu. High school students aged 12 to 15 years of both genders were included using a systematic random sampling method. A total of 234 students were interviewed using the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale (SCAS-Child) questionnaire to assess anxiety levels. Qualitative variables were described using mean and standard deviation, and ANOVA was applied to explore associations between anxiety and determining factors. Results: Panic/agoraphobia emerged as the most common anxiety disorder. Obsessive-compulsive disorder and social phobia were higher in girls, while panic/agoraphobia, fear of physical injury, general, and separation anxiety were more prevalent in boys. Children with fathers in white-collar jobs showed higher panic/agoraphobia and general anxiety (Mean±SD: 12.13±4.5, p &lt; 0.02), while those from lower socioeconomic classes had more separation anxiety (Mean±SD: 6.86±2.7, p &lt; 0.02). Anxiety disorders were higher among children from joint or three-generation families. Conclusion: There is a significant prevalence of anxiety among adolescents, with clear correlations to sociodemographic factors. Enhancing protective factors and addressing modifiable risks at the school level is crucial to improving adolescent mental health services.

Sensory and affective dimensions in loudness perception: Insights from young adults

Traditional psychoacoustic measures often lack accuracy in diagnosing hyperacusis and other sound tolerance disorders, possibly due to their reliance on artificial stimuli and unidimensional scales. The aim of this study was to assess loudness across sensory and affective dimensions using natural sounds, drawing on pain research wherein intensity and unpleasantness are assessed separately. We hypothesized that similar distinctions apply to loudness perception. A total of 102 young adults with normal to mild hearing loss rated 32 sound stimuli (pleasant, unpleasant, neutral, and artificial) at 10 intensities (40 to 100 dBA) on sensory and affective scales. They also completed the Hyperacusis Questionnaire, the Noise Sensitivity Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Mixed linear models indicated both correlations and dissociations between scales that varied according to intensity and valence. Louder stimuli were rated as more unpleasant, but only at high intensities. On the sensory scale, sounds were perceived as louder with increasing intensity; however, at low to moderate intensities, pleasant and neutral sounds were rated as louder, whereas at higher intensities, artificial and unpleasant stimuli were rated as louder. On the affective scale, the perception of unpleasantness also increased with intensity, but less steeply. At high intensities, artificial stimuli were rated similarly to unpleasant stimuli. Noise sensitivity scores predicted louder and more unpleasant ratings, whereas depression scores were associated with softer and less pleasant perceptions. This study highlights the need for multidimensional approaches in audiology and suggests that the integration of sensory and affective scales with natural stimuli may improve the diagnosis and treatment of sound tolerance disorders.

THE IMPACT OF NEUROSCIENCE-BASED MINDFULNESS TRAINING ON MENTAL HEALTH IN FUTURE PSYCHOLOGISTS

Purpose. This study investigates the effectiveness of a neuroscience-based mindfulness training program on emotional states, self-compassion traits and well-being status among psychology students during an 8-week intervention. The work focuses on developing emotional regulation, decreasing stress and depression, and increasing self-compassion and mindfulness — all of which are crucial skills for professional practice. Methods. This pilot study included fifty psychology students (M = 23.5, SD = 2.8) who were assessed using the DASS-21 for stress, anxiety, depression and Self-Compassion Scale for self-kindness, mindfulness and related traits before and after a special training program along with the BBC-SWB questionnaire for psychological, physical and subjective well-being. Statistical analyses such as paired t-tests, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression were used to assess the intervention's effectiveness and explore predictive relationships among variables. Results. The program was associated with significant reductions in anxiety, stress, and depression and increases in self-kindness, mindfulness, and psychological well-being. Given that emotional states and self-compassion traits function as mutually reinforcing factors, correlations provided evidence based on the holistic benefits of the program. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that both pre-intervention anxiety (β = 0.45, p &lt; 0.001) and self-kindness (β = 0.35, p = 0.05) significantly predicted psychological well-being after the intervention. These variables combined explained 52% of the outcome variance (R² = 0.52, p &lt; 0.001). Mindfulness explained an additional 17% variance beyond all other variables combined, affirming its role as a transformational variable within the model. Conclusions. This mindfulness training, based on neuroscience principles and research findings, is designed to decrease psychological suffering and enhance psychological resilience and self-compassion. The results call for incorporating such training within psychology educational programs, thus enhancing personal health and professional competence. Longitudinal studies investigating the long-term effects of mindfulness practices and their use in a broader range of populations are warranted for future research.

Online Mindfulness-Based Intervention (eMBI) in management of dyspnea in patients with interstitial lung disease: A randomized clinical trial

Dyspnea and cough are frequent symptoms in ILD patients. The management of these symptoms is challenging, and evidence-based therapies are lacking. To evaluate the effect of an online Mindfulness-Based Intervention (eMBI) on reducing dyspnea in patients affected by different ILDs. This study was a prospective, open-label, controlled trial that included patients ≥18 years and a modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea scale score of ≥ 1. Patients were randomized into either the eMBI or the control group (CG) for 8 weeks. The primary outcome was the change in the dyspnea mMRC scale. The Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ), King's Brief Interstitial Lung Disease (K-BILD) questionnaire, and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) were performed before and after the eight weeks. All analyses were conducted on an intention-to-treat basis. The study was registered at the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC), RBR-3s4mf9y. 24 patients in the eMBI and 25 in the CG completed the intervention. In the eMBI group, compared to the control group, there was a greater proportion of patients with a reduction in dyspnea according to the mMRC scale score (48.9 % versus,15.4 %, p = 0.001). There was no significant difference between the groups in the LCQ (p = 0.666), or in the K-BILD (p = 0.108), depression (p = 0.08), or anxiety (p = 0.869 or stress (p = 0.789). No moderate or severe adverse events were observed in either group. Eight weeks eMBI is a potentially viable and safe approach, that can help manage dyspnea in ILD patients.

Assesment of anxiety and depression in pregnant women in home care management

This study aims to identify factors associated with depressive and anxious symptomatology in pregnant women hospitalized during the antepartum period in home care management (Hospitalisation à domicile). This is a quantitative, single-center, observational, and descriptive study that included all French-speaking women hospitalized in the HAD of AP-HP between September 2022 and February 2023. Anxious and depressive symptoms were assessed using the self-administered HADS (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) questionnaire. Analyses were conducted according to two distinct groups, comparing patients with an anxiety or depression scores below 8 on the HADS to those with a score of 8 or above (the threshold set on the questionnaire corresponding to intermediate symptomatology). A second questionnaire created for the study detailed maternal history, pregnancy experience, and lifestyle. A total of sixty-four women were included from September 20, 2022, to February 15, 2023. Eighteen women (28%) evaluated had anxious symptomatology and thirteen women (20%) had depressive symptomatology. Factors significantly associated with anxiety were poor pregnancy experience (p = 0.04), the need for psychological follow-up during pregnancy (p<0,01), country of birth (p = 0.022), as well as psychiatric history such as previous consultations with a mental health specialist (p = 0.015) and previous psychotropic treatment (p = 0.028). Additionally, a history of violence (respectively, p = 0.034 and p<0.01) and the women's belief that a consultation with a psychologist would benefit them were also associated with anxious and depressive symptomatology (respectively, p<0,01 and p <0.01) Conclusion: Our results highlight the importance and necessity of enhancing the screening and prevention of various mental disorders during pregnancy. It would be interesting to implement organized screening for anxiety, similar to depression, in pregnant women hospitalized at home and for the entire obstetric population.

Bereaved family quality of life varies with comorbid psychological distress and ICU-care quality.

Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is highly endorsed, but HRQOL studies scarcely investigate the following: ICU family members; modifiable end-of-life (EOL) ICU-care factors; conjoint associations with prolonged grief disorder (PGD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression; and long-term bereavement outcomes. Exploratorily investigate associations of PGD-PTSD-depressive-symptom states (resilient, subthreshold-depression dominant, PGD dominant, and PGD-PTSD-depression comorbid) and quality of EOL ICU care with families' HRQOL 6-24 months post loss. This cohort study examined symptoms of PGD (11 items of the PG-13), PTSD (Impact of Event Scale-Revised), and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), and HRQOL (Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey) among 303 ICU family members. Quality of EOL ICU care was measured by objective process-based care-quality indicators abstracted from medical records and classified by subjective family-assessed quality of patient dying and death (QODD). Associations were simultaneously examined by multivariate hierarchical linear modeling with resilient state and high QODD class as reference. Physical and mental HRQOL were worse in the three more distressed symptom states, especially mental HRQOL which showed an incremental dose-response effect: subthreshold depression-dominant (β [95% CI]=-2.419 [-3.374, -1.464]), PGD-dominant (-8.366 [-10.116, -6.616]), and PGD-PTSD-depression comorbid (-14.736 [-17.772, -11.700]) states. Mental HRQOL was significantly worse in the three poorer QODD classes: moderate (-1.085 [-2.138, -0.032]), poor to uncertain (-4.362 [-5.616, -3.108]), and worst (-3.239 [-4.433, -2.045]). HRQOL was not associated with objective care-quality indicators. Bereaved family members' HRQOL was significantly associated with PGD-PTSD-depressive-symptom states and QODD classes-both modifiable through high-quality EOL ICU care.

The Impact of Alpha-s1 Casein Hydrolysate On Chronic Insomnia: A Randomized, Double-Blind Controlled Trial

BackgroundAlpha-s1 casein hydrolysate (ACH; Lactium®) is recognized as a supplementary treatment to enhance sleep quality. However, limited studies utilizing objective sleep assessment tools have resulted in a lack of substantial validation. This study aimed to assess the effects of ACH on both subjective sleep assessments and objective polysomnography (PSG) recordings in a hospital-based cohort of Taiwanese individuals with chronic insomnia. MethodsIn this 4-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 36 participants diagnosed with chronic insomnia were enrolled and randomly assigned to either the ACH or placebo groups. Initially, participants in the ACH group received 600 mg of ACH daily, which was reduced to 300 mg for the latter two weeks; the placebo group received maltodextrin capsules throughout the study. The study utilized polysomnography (PSG), along with detailed sleep questionnaires including the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Global Sleep Disorders Score (GSDS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), to assess improvements in sleep quality and related health markers. The efficacy of the intervention was assessed through measures of sleep efficiency, stage distribution, and psychological well-being, comparing results from before to after the treatment phase. ResultsThe study demonstrated that ACH treatment notably enhanced sleep quality, evidenced by significant improvements in ISI, GSDS, PSQI, ESS, and HADS scores at both week 2 and 4 (all p-values < 0.05) compared with baseline scores. When compared to the placebo group, the ACH group experienced a marked reduction in GSDS scores over time (p = 0.045). Furthermore, PSG data revealed a significant decrease in sleep onset latency from baseline in the ACH group compared to the placebo group (p = 0.012; -7.7 ± 16.0 minutes vs. 6.1 ± 17.7 minutes for ACH and placebo groups, respectively). These results indicate that ACH treatment effectively improved sleep initiation and overall sleep quality. ConclusionACH Supplementation significantly improved sleep quality, particularly by reducing GSDS scores and sleep onset latency, demonstrating its potential as an effective intervention for chronic insomnia. Future studies with larger samples and exploration of long-term effects are needed to confirm these results.

Investigating the relationship between mathematics motivation and mathematics anxiety in 4th grade primary students with and without a diagnosis of giftedness

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between mathematics motivation and mathematics anxiety in 4th grade primary school students who are diagnosed as gifted and those who are not, in terms of some variables. A descriptive and relational screening model was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 500 students, 250 of whom were diagnosed as gifted (SAC students) and 250 of whom were not diagnosed as gifted, selected from different regions of Turkey. The Mathematics Motivation Scale and the Mathematics Anxiety Scale were used as data collection instruments. As a result of the analyses, a significant negative relationship was found between mathematics anxiety and intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and total motivation, and a significant positive relationship was found between mathematics anxiety and motivation. In the regression analysis it was found that all motivation sub-dimensions predicted mathematics anxiety. There was no significant relationship between mathematics motivation and mathematics anxiety in 4th grade female students with and without giftedness. A significant negative relationship was found between mathematics anxiety and intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and total motivation in 4th grade male students with and without giftedness. A positive significant relationship was found between maths anxiety and motivation. When the results of the regression analysis were analyses, it was found that all motivation sub-dimensions predicted mathematics anxiety. A significant difference was found in the sub-dimensions of intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation of the participating students' mathematics motivation, but no significant difference was found in the sub-dimension of motivation. There was a significant difference between the mathematics anxiety levels of 4th grade students diagnosed as gifted and those not diagnosed as gifted.

Survey of The Correlation Between COVID-19 Risk Perception and Anxiety Among Manufacturing Workers

Introduction: People’s risk perception in an emergency situation affects how they behave. During the pandemic of a disease like COVID-19, the fear of the disease and its consequences causes people to deal with anxiety. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between the perception of the risk of COVID-19 and the experience of anxiety caused by it among workers in manufacturing industries. Material and Methods: The present descriptive-analytical study was conducted cross-sectionally in 2022 among 545 workers of manufacturing industries located in Tehran, Mazandaran and North-Khorasan provinces. In the study, data collection was conducted using three questionnaires: a demographic information questionnaire, the COVID-19 Disease Anxiety Scale (CDAS), and the COVID-19 Risk Perception and Psychological Predictors against COVID-19 questionnaire. Data analysis was done using descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and analytical statistics (Canonical Correlation Coefficients or CCC) in SPSS V25 software. Results: The mean ± SD of the workers’ age was 35.98 ± 7.58 years, while the scores for risk perception and anxiety were 12.89 ± 3.31 and 4.51 ± 1.51, respectively. The Concordance Correlation Coefficient (CCC) between risk perception and anxiety caused by the COVID-19 disease in the first Canonical point was 0.734, and in the second Canonical point, it was 0.229. The corresponding p-value was found to be less than 0.01. Psychological symptoms (Canonical loading = -0.725) and physical symptoms (Canonical loading = -0.421) played a significant role in predicting the variability of the risk perception of COVID-19. Conclusion: The perception of risk related to the COVID-19 disease resulted in a decrease in anxiety, having a more pronounced effect on psychological symptoms compared to physical symptoms. Therefore, in times of pandemic outbreaks similar to COVID-19, implementing measures that enhance workers’ awareness and understanding of the disease risks can prove effective in managing anxiety

A neural regulation mechanism of head electroacupuncture on brain network of patients with stroke related sleep disorders.

To analyze part of the mechanism of electroacupuncture on Sishencong (EX-HN1) for stroke-related sleep disorders (SSD) and post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). Using a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design, 72 patients were assigned to the electro-acupuncture (EA) group or the sham acupuncture (SA) group. A healthy control (HC) group was also included. Both groups were given routine rehabilitation treatment. Then, patients in the EA group were given additional electroacupuncture at Sishencong (EX_HN1). Meanwhile, patients in the SA group were given a flat-head needle sham/placebo treatment placed at the bilateral Jianyu (LI15) and Binao (LI14) line midpoints and the Jianyu (LI15) and Jianzhen (SI9) line midpoints. Before and after treatment, scales were collected and analyzed. In the second phase of the study, some subjects from the EA group were selected for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data acquisition and comparative analysis with the HC group using a non-RCT design. The EA group performed better than the SA group on the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Montreal cognitive assessment basic (MoCA_B), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), and self-rating depression scale (SDS). Analysis of the fMRI showed that low-frequency (2 Hz) electroacupuncture stimulation at Sishencong (EX_HN1) can restrain frontal sup medial right (SFGmed.R), precuneus right (PCUN.R), and posterior cingulate cortex right (PCC.R) and enhance angular left (ANG.L), parietal inf left (IPL.L) and occipital mid left (MOG.L). The functional connectivity (FC) of SFGmed.R was positively correlated with PSQI. Electroacupuncture stimulation at Sishencong (EX_HN1) can reduce the side efficiency of the whole brain connection with the Thalamus.L, Hippocampus.L, and Occipital.Mid.L. Low frequency (2 Hz) electroacupuncture stimulation at Sishencong (EX_HN1) can simultaneously improve sleep quality, negative emotions, and cognitive functions, the first two of which may be related to SFGmed.R restraint. Electroacupuncture can make some brain areas approach the physiological bias state, which is characterized by dominant hemispheric enhancement and non-dominant hemispheric weakening. The reduced whole brain connection side efficiency with some key nodes of the brain net may relate to sleep quality improvements in SSD patients.

Effect of Narrative Nursing Intervention on Patients with Specific Digestive Tract Malignancies (Esophageal, Gastric, and Intestinal Cancers): A Retrospective Study.

To explore the effect of narrative nursing intervention on patients with esophageal, gastric, and intestinal cancers. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 103 patients with digestive tract malignant tumors admitted to our hospital from January 2022 to January 2024. According to the nursing intervention received by the patients, they were divided into a control group (n=51) and an observation group (n=52). The control group received routine nursing intervention, while the observation group received narrative nursing intervention in addition to the routine nursing intervention. The compliance behavior, negative emotional status, self-perceived burden, quality of life, and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared. After intervention, the observation group showed higher scores in medication, exercise, dietary, and emotional regulation adherence than the control group (P<0.05). Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) for negative emotions decreased in both groups, with a greater reduction in the observation group (P<0.05). Economic, physical, and emotional burden levels also decreased more in the observation group (P<0.05). Quality of life scores in physiological, social/family, emotional, and functional conditions improved more in the observation group (P<0.05). Adverse reactions, including nausea, vomiting, fatigue, pain, gastrointestinal reactions, and insomnia, were less frequent in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Narrative nursing intervention for patients with digestive tract malignant tumors can effectively improve patient compliance behavior, alleviate negative emotions, reduce self-perceived burden, promote the improvement of patient quality of life, and reduce the occurrence of related adverse reactions. However, the study is limited by its small sample size and single-center design, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Further research with larger and more diverse populations is recommended.

Relationship between anxiety, loneliness, and sleep-disorders with social media addiction among adolescent

In the digital era, social media usage has become an integral part of daily life, particularly among adolescents. This study investigates the relationship between anxiety, loneliness, sleep disorders, and social media addiction among adolescents. A cross-sectional study involving 290 X and XI-grade students utilized standardized instruments: the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS/SRAS), UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test (p&amp;lt;0.05). Findings revealed 10.7% severe social media addiction, 21.4% severe anxiety, 4.8% significant loneliness, and 74.5% poor sleep quality. Significant associations were found between anxiety (p=0.013), loneliness (p=0.010), sleep disturbance (p=0.033), and social media addiction. Higher anxiety, loneliness, and poor sleep quality correlate with increased susceptibility to social media addiction among adolescents. This underscores the importance of addressing psychological well-being in interventions aimed at mitigating social media addiction.

Evaluation of the montreal cognitive assessment in idiopathic tinnitus patients with mild hearing loss

Objective:To explore the effect of mild hearing loss on cognitive function by evaluating the Montreal Cognitive Assessment（MoCA） in idiopathic tinnitus patients with mild hearing loss. Methods:102 patients with idiopathic tinnitus（68 patients with normal hearing and 34 patients with mild hearing loss） whose first complaint is tinnitus and 34 healthy volunteers（control group） were included. All subjects were asked to fill the MoCA, Tinnitus Handicap Inventory（THI）, Self-rating Anxiety Scale（SAS）, Self-rating Depression Scale（SDS）, and Pittsburgh Sleep Index（PQSI） after collecting medical history, pure tone audiometry, tinnitus matching and masking test. The clinical characteristics and scores of each scale were compared among the groups. Results:The score and each dimension score of MoCA in idiopathic tinnitus patients with normal hearing were significantly lower than the normal population（P<0.05）; compared with patients with idiopathic tinnitus with normal hearing, patients with mild hearing loss were older（P<0.01） and had lower MoCA scores（P<0.05）. There was no significant difference in MoCA scores（P>0.05） between tinnitus patients with normal hearing and mild hearing loss after correcting confounding factors（age, gender, years of education, duration of tinnitus, frequency of tinnitus tones, side of tinnitus, THI score, SAS score, SDS score, and PQSI score）; idiopathic tinnitus patients with mild hearing loss scored significantly lower in attention and working memory dimensions than idiopathic tinnitus patients with normal hearing（P<0.01）. Conclusion:Patients with idiopathic tinnitus may have cognitive dysfunction, and mild hearing loss may not be a factor that promotes the further aggravation of cognitive dysfunction in patients with idiopathic tinnitus. The role of hearing loss in cognitive dysfunction in patients with idiopathic tinnitus needs further research.
