From nature to nanoparticles: Synthesizing silver nanoparticles from Moortalkh plant leaves with potent antibacterial properties

The unique characteristics of nanoparticles, compared to non-nanomaterials, have led to their widespread and increasing use in various fields, especially medicine. Producing nanoparticles using inexpensive, biocompatible, and non-toxic methods is of great importance. Plant-based synthesis of nanoparticles is one desirable method that has gained attention in recent years. In this study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized using aqueous extract of Moortalkh plant leaves at room temperature and pressure. The obtained nanoparticles were evaluated using various tests including UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy [FTIR], X-ray diffraction [XRD], field emission scanning electron microscopy [FESEM], and transmission electron microscopy [TEM]. The presence of an absorption peak at the 458 nm region in the UV–vis spectrum of silver nanoparticles indicated the surface plasmon resonance of the nanoparticles, confirming their formation. The XRD analysis results revealed the crystalline nature of the silver nanoparticles, exhibiting face-centered cubic (FCC) structure and an average size of 6.18 nm. FTIR analysis indicated the presence of active molecules from the leaf extract of the Moortalkh plant and their role in the formation and stability of silver nanoparticles. FESEM and TEM analyses showed spherical morphology of nanoparticles with average sizes of 5 to 15 nm and 6.2 nm, respectively. The antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli strains was investigated, and the results indicated excellent antibacterial properties of the nanoparticles.

Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized from Endophytic Streptomyces sp. CR 13 Isolated from the Roots of Ocimum tenuiflorum L.

In this study, Streptomyces sp. CR 13 from the roots of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. was isolated and characterized using biochemical, morphological and genomic approaches. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized extracellularly using cell-free extract and characterized with UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), EDX, DLS and zeta potential techniques. The maximum peak of UV-visible spectroscopy was observed at 425 nm and the TEM images revealed that the nanoparticles were spherical in shape and ranged in size from 18 to 21 nm. DLS analysis revealed particles with an average diameter of 147.9 nm. The zeta potential analysis of biosynthesized AgNPs showed a peak at -35.2 mV, indicating their high stability. Moreover, AgNPs synthesized by endophytic Streptomyces showed significant antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia and Stphylococcus aureus.

Synthesis, Characterization, and Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Supported on Bovine Bone Powder Using Heterotheca inuloides: An In Vitro Study

This paper reports on the biosynthesis, characterization, as well as the bactericide and cytotoxic properties of silver nanoparticles supported on bovine bone powder (Ag-NPs/BBP). The silver nanoparticles were obtained through the bioreduction of AgNO3, using an infusion of Heterotheca inuloides leaves and flowers as a reducing agent and bovine bone powder as a support. The ratio of Ag-NPs/bovine bone powder was set as 1:10. The characterization was performed with SEM–EDS, XRD, UV–Vis, and TEM, which showed the formation of nanoparticles with an average size of 22.6 ± 10.8 nm and a quasi-spherical Ag-NPs morphology supported on the BBP surface. The nanocomposite exhibited a band gap of 2.19 eV. The minimal inhibitory concentration and the minimal bactericidal concentration against S. aureus, E. coli, and S. epidermidis were determined for each strain. In addition, the cytotoxic evaluation of the Ag-NPs/BBP on J774.2 mouse macrophage cells was performed. The Ag-NPs/BBP exhibited a bactericide effect on the strains studied, and the cytotoxicity had a dose-dependent behavior on the cells studied. Therefore, it was found that the ecofriendly synthesized Ag-NPs supported on bovine bone powder resulted in an effective bactericidal system against the strains studied, without significant cytotoxicity.

Cytoplasmic Leakage and Protein Leakage Analysis of Ocimum Gratissimum Stem Extract-Mediated Silver Nanoparticles Against Wound Pathogens

ABSTRACT Aim: The current work intends to examine the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) mediated by Ocimum gratissimum stem extract against wound infections. Materials and Methods: To evaluate the membrane damage brought on by AgNPs, analyses of cytoplasmic leakage and protein leakage assays were performed. Results: The outcomes demonstrated that all of the tested bacterial strains were significantly resistant to the AgNPs’ antibacterial activity. AgNPs damaged membranes and caused cellular contents to leak in the target pathogens, according to an examination of protein and cytoplasmic leakage. Conclusion: According to the current investigation, AgNPs mediated by Ocimum gratissimum stem extract may be effective antibacterial agents against microorganisms that cause wounds.

Increased antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized from leaf extract of Isodon coetsa

Application of nanotechnology for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant extract can be a promising alternative to traditional chemical methods. Products of biological origin have less side effects, thus are safe for human health besides being cost-effective and pollution-free. Keeping in view this, the current work was designed for the environment- friendly production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) utilising Isodon coetsa acetone leaf extract. The effect of some important variables including incubation time, pH, AgNO3 concentration, temperature and volume of plant extract were examined for the optimum production of AgNPs. Synthesized nanoparticles were further characterized using atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. In addition, the antibacterial potential of nanoparticles was also determined by agar-well diffusion method. The optimal conditions for synthesis of AgNPs achieved after 24 h of incubation at pH 9.0, 2mM AgNO3, 60°C temperature, and using 10% I. coetsa leaf extract. X-ray diffraction spectroscopy revealed that the size of the strongest peak for AgNPs was 9.5 nm, while atomic force microscopy confirmed their spherical shape with smooth surface without any pinholes or cracks. AgNPs showed excellent antibacterial action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The current study has contributed to the development of a simple and fast bioprocess for the synthesis of AgNPs of the appropriate size and form which also have increased antibacterial activity in comparison to crude extract. Therefore, the process of biogenically synthesised AgNPs from plants is a straightforward, commercially feasible, and environmentally benign approach that can be used in disease control while utilizing their important role as therapeutic agent for treating various ailments caused by pathogenic bacteria.

Structures, physical properties and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum exopolysaccharide

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) exopolysaccharide (EPS) has good water absorption, high viscosity, good stability, so it was widely used in probiotics fields. In this study, EPS-producing LAB strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HDL-03 was isolated and identified. Moreover, the HDL-03 EPS was used as a stabilizer and mixed with AgNO3 to synthesize a novel nanoparticle AgNPs whose structure and properties were explored. The monosaccharide composition and molecular weight indicated that HDL-03 EPS was a heteropolysaccharide composed of mannose and glucose. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analysis and methylation results jointly proved it was a heteropolysaccharide containing 1,3-Manp and 1,6-Glcp. The X-Ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that this EPS has an amorphous structure, while the synthesized AgNPs have crystalline properties. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results indicated EPS had a smooth and dense sheet structure, while the surface of AgNPs became rougher and large holes appeared after synthesis. Zeta particle size analysis suggested that the particle size of AgNPs increased by 36.63 nm compared to HDL-03 EPS. FT-IR analysis exhibited that the position of the characteristic peaks of AgNPs changed. The OH moving from a wavelength of 3388.49 cm−1 to a wavelength of 3316.79 cm−1 and telescopic vibration peak changed from 1356.07 cm−1 to 1344.22 cm−1. A plate inhibition test revealed the effect of different concentrations of EPS and AgNO3 synthesized AgNPs on the diameter of inhibition circle produced by the indicator bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, AgNPs were applied to the indicator bacteria, which the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), time-inhibitory curve, and changes in extracellular conductivity, nucleic acids, proteins, ATP, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were determined. The AgNPs inhibited the growth of E. coli and S. aureus and exhibited outstanding antimicrobial properties. With the increase of treatment time, the degree of cell membrane damage increased, the permeability enhanced, and the intracellular substances leaked. These results indicate that HDL-03 EPS has good potential for applications in the production of food packaging, antimicrobials, catheters, textiles and coatings.

Optimum Green Synthesis, Characterization, and Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Prepared from an Extract of Aloe fleurentinorum

The synthesis of metal nanoparticles through the use of plant extract is a process that is not only simple but also inexpensive, quick, and favorable to the environment. As a result, it is utilized in a wide variety of fields. When synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), several different kinds of plant extracts were utilized. The manufacture of silver nanoparticles was carried out in this study using an environmentally friendly technique. The aqueous extract of the Aloe fleurentinorum plant was utilized as a stabilizing and reducing agent. To determine the optimal conditions for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, it was necessary to investigate the impact of several parameters on the process. These parameters included the reactant volume ratio, pH values, temperature, and reaction time. To get crystallite and stable silver nanoparticles, an aqueous solution of AgNO3 (0.01M) was added to an aqueous extract of Aloe fleurentinorum plant at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius and a pH of 8. The mixture was then stirred with a magnetic stirrer for ninety minutes (90 minutes). Using a variety of methods (UV-vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and XPS), several approaches were utilized to investigate and describe the green-produced AgNPs. Through the use of the SEM method, it was demonstrated that the morphology of AgNPs is tetrahedral. It was determined using X-ray diffraction that the size of crystalline AgNPs was 26.7 nm. AgNPs that have been optimally synthesized have antibacterial properties that are both significant and effective against various bacterial species that have been tested at varying doses.

Study on the Influence of UV Light on Selective Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticle Synthesized Utilizing Protein/Polypeptide-Rich Aqueous Extract from The Common Walkingstick, Diapheromera femorata.

Common walkingstick (Diapheromera femorata) aqueous extract (CWSAE) can induce the synthesis of useful bionanomaterials. CWSAE is rich in water-soluble organic compounds such as proteins and polypeptides that function as reducing/stabilizing agents for nanoparticle formation from Ag+ ion precursors. The synthesized AgNPs exhibited a moderately uniform size, with the majority falling within the range of 20-80 nm. These AgNPs were UV-treated and tested as antibacterial agents to inhibit the growth of four pathogenic bacteria (Burkholderia cenocepacia K-56, Klebsiella pneumoniae ST258, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, and Staphylococcus aureus USA300), as well as one common bacterium (Escherichia coli BW25113). The disk diffusion test demonstrated that the UV-treated AgNPs significantly and selectively inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus USA300 and P. aeruginosa, while showing a small effect on the other two species. This suggests the potential application of green-chemically synthesized AgNPs as selective antibacterial agents. Furthermore, we studied the effects of short-term (1-2 min) and long-term (5-30 min) UV treatment on the selective cytotoxicity of the AgNPs and found that the cytotoxicity of the AgNPs could depend on the duration of UV exposure against certain bacteria.

The role of pH-induced tautomerism of polyvinylpyrrolidone on the size, stability, and antioxidant and antibacterial activities of silver nanoparticles synthesized using microwave radiation.

Tautomerism alters the structure and properties of materials, which can be exploited to control their chemical and biological activities. The role of pH-induced tautomerism of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was determined by measuring the size, stability, and antioxidant and antibacterial properties of microwave synthesized-silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). TEM and XRD analyses confirmed the formation of face-centered cubic silver nanoparticles. PVP stabilized the AgNPs by interaction with the carbonyl or hydroxyl groups depending on the tautomerization under different pH conditions. At pH 4, PVP was stable in the keto tautomer, stabilizing Ag through electron donation of oxygen atoms in the carbonyl group, producing smaller AgNPs with a higher zeta potential. At pH 7 and 9, the enol tautomer PVP stabilized the AgNPs via oxygen atoms in the hydroxyl group, forming large nanoparticles. The keto form of PVP improved the stability and antioxidant and antibacterial properties of AgNPs compared with the enol form. This study also excluded the antioxidant contribution of PVP via hydrogen donation to free radicals. A facile method for controlling the size of AgNPs by adapting the pH-induced tautomerism of PVP that affects their stability and antioxidant and antibacterial activities is thus reported.

Evaluation of antioxidant and antibacterial activities of silver nanoparticles derived from Limonia acidissima L. fruit extract

In the rapidly expanding field of nanoscience and research, AgNPs and their diverse by-products have been acknowledged as having a green approach. Fruit extract of Limonia acidissima L. is capable of bio-reducing AgNO3 and stabilizing AgNPs. AgNPs distinctive absorption peak at 417 nm at pH 8 was visible on the UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The fruit extract contained bioactive chemicals, which may be the cause of the AgNPs bio-capping and stabilizing properties, according to Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) examination, the AgNPs solid crystalline nature and size of 29.05 nm were investigated. Lastly, AFM and HR-TEM studies verified the AgNPs surface morphology, particularly their size and form. The DPPH assay method was used to measure the AgNPs capacity for radical scavenging. As compared to normal ascorbic acid and fruit extract (control), the AgNPs produced from the fruit extract demonstrated good antioxidant effectiveness. To evaluate the antibacterial activity of the AgNPs sample, it was additionally evaluated against E. coli, S. typhi, V. cholera, and S. aureus. With the greatest zone of inhibition and thus the strongest antibacterial activity, S. aureus (12.03 ± 0.043 mm) was the organism that displayed it. On the other hand, the least active strain was V. cholera (9.09 ± 0.013 mm). The data indicates that bio-fabricated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibited dose-dependent inhibitory efficacy together with a notable zone of inhibition. Additionally, S. aureus was shown to be more effective than V. cholera. Future health and pharmaceutical fields may benefit from the biocompatible method of separating AgNPs from L. acidissima fruit extract.

Antibacterial Activities of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized from plants and Fungi

The present study aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNps) having antibacterial properties. Two fungal strains, viz Aspergillus niger and A. terreus were procured from NCIM, Pune. And were used to synthesize silver nanoparticles by reduction and precipitation of AgNO3 . The aqueous plant extract of Neem (Azadiracta indica) leaves was prepared for the synthesis of AgNps. All the AgNps derived from fungi and plant sources were evaluated for antibacterial properties against known laboratory pathogens. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized using a UV-visible spectrophotometer and SEM. Silver nanoparticles were produced significantly from A. niger at 400nm and A. Terreus at 400 nm. The aqueous extract of the neem plant showed maximum absorption at 500 nm. Also, the extract nanoparticles showed the highest antibacterial activity against E. coli, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas spp, Salmonella paratyphi-A and S. aureus.

Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Composed by Fruit Aqueous Extract of Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench Alone or in Combination with Antibiotics

Nanoparticle applications are growing due to the unique properties that nanoparticles possess, which have gained the attention of researchers, and one of these applications is the use of inhibiting antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The current work aims to biosynthesize silver nanoparticles from the fruits of the okra plant Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench and test their antibacterial activity alone or in combination with some antibiotics. The creation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by altering the color of the mixture from light green to dark brown, in addition to employing spectroscopic methods to prove and explain the production of these particles, such as UV-vis, FTIR, XRD, and EDX. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to determine the shape and sizes of the particles created in the current study. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were tested alone or in combination with some antibiotics for their ability to inhibit four species of antibiotic-resistant MDR bacteria, three of which were Gram-negative and the fourth was Gram-positive bacteria. The results demonstrated that these bacteria were inhibited when using nanoparticles at all concentrations alone or in combination with antibiotics. AgNPs were found to be more effective against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, Staphylococcus auricularis (8F) was the most sensitive bacteria at all concentrations, while Escherichia coli (3R) was the most resistant. The results of the combination of AgNPs with some antibiotics revealed that the best synergy was recorded when AgNPs mixed with Amoxicillin clavulanate against all species of Gram-negative bacteria, followed by ciprofloxacin, Ampicillin, and Fosfomycin. 

Biosynthesis of Silver Based Nanoparticles Using Plant Leaves Extracts and Their Antibacterial Activities

The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a major global public health concern. Antibacterial agents are one of the most exciting areas for the use of nanoparticles and have shown great potential as alternative antibacterial agents due to their outstanding physical and chemical properties. The biosynthesis and antibacterial activities of Silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs) could contribute to the development of innovative antimicrobial drugs with potential for a variety of medical applications. The X Ray Diffraction (XRD) results showed that the formed particles were pure silver nanoparticles with a cubic crystal structure and granular size. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) also showed that functional aggregates formed, and the thumb region confirmed the presence of silver nanoparticles. In addition, we investigated the Uv-Visible and biological activity of AgNPs. A study of the biological activity of gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumonia) bacteria showed the importance of nano-silver particle biosynthesis.

Chitosan oligomer/silver nanoparticles/PCL composite electrospun membrane for severe burn wound healing

In the management of burn wounds, antimicrobial and wound healing properties are crucial. In this study, we prepared a three-layer electrospun poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) membrane for burn wound dressing. The hydrophobic electrospun PCL layer, embedded with silver nanoparticles (SNPs) (PCL-Ag), was coated with another layer of electrospun plasma-treated PCL-Ag to enhance the wettability of the membrane. This enhancement was to facilitate the absorption of the hydrophilic chitosan oligomer (COS) - the third layer of the dressing. The resultant membranes were characterised and tested for different properties to demonstrate their applicability as wound dressing materials. The combination of COS and SNPs of the fabricated membrane supports the healing process and reduces burn severity due to the healing capacity of COS and the antibacterial activity of SNPs, without compromising mechanical strength. We conducted several in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate its applicability for burn wound healing. The PCL-Ag/COS sample demonstrated outstanding in vitro biocompatibility and excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus strains. We used the membrane to treat burns on rabbits in the laboratory over 30 days, and consistently observed positive outcomes. This research offers insights into the development of bioactive dressings for wound healing and opens up opportunities for practical applications of COS-incorporated materials.

Antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized from Citrus aurantium and its synergistic effect of the combination of silver nanoparticles with ampicillin against Proteus mirabilis

Abstract Background: Proteus mirabilis is one of the most infectious organisms that cause a various infections involving those of the skin, wounds, and urinary tract. This study describes the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNps) and using it as an antibacterial agent. Objective: To determine the activity of AgNps and synergistic effect of combination of AgNps with ampicillin (AMP). Materials and Methods: Out of 205 samples, 32 isolated were identified as P. mirabilis and determine the inhibition zone by using AgNps and its combination with AMP. The AgNps were biosynthesized by Citrus aurantium and then characterized using Ultraviolet (UV)-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The antibacterial activity of AgNps was done using well diffusion agar method and the activity was evaluated by calculating the increase in the inhibition zone and reduction in the bacterial growth. Results: The synthesized AgNps was first characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy which showed a peak between 400 and 500 cm–1. The color changes from clear yellow to red or brown color indicate the formation of AgNps. The particle size of AgNps was calculated and found to be 21.24 nm by XRD. The TEM images showed the presence of very regular particles in shape of nanospheres with a particle size in the range of 10–28 nm. Different concentrations (25, 50, 75, 100 µg/mL) were used for determining the activities of AgNps and the combination of AgNps with AMP, and the result showed that the most efficient in inhibition zone was at concentration 100 µg/mL. Conclusion: This study concluded that the green synthesized AgNps from C. aurantium leaves extract have most potential as antibacterial against P. mirabilis.

Green silver nanoparticles display protection against Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.)

The quarantined bacterium Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm) causes significant losses on tomato plants worldwide, therefore efforts to reduce its damage are imperative. The alternatives offered by nanotechnology in the near future to be applied for the control of Cmm should be studied. Hence, this study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) biosynthesized on Moringa (Mo) leaves against Cmm in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and the possible protective mechanisms associated. UV–vis, TEM and FTIR, elucidated some structural and physicochemical characteristics of biosynthesized AgNPs. The preventive and curative effect of Mo extract and Mo-AgNPs at 50 ppm against Cmm in tomato plants was evaluated. Cmm was inoculated in the stems of tomato plants with 1 × 109 UFC/mL. Biometric parameters, disease severity, PAL, CAT, SOD activities, H2O2 levels, as well as chalcone synthase and pr1a gene expression were measured in greenhouse during 29 days. The UV–vis spectrum revealed the maximum absorption at 330 nm. Mo-AgNPs (32 nm; quasi-spherical shape) exhibited antibacterial potential against Cmm decreasing the disease severity by 86.29 % at 29 days after the treatments were applied. Besides, the Mo extract decreased the disease severity in 72 %, both compared to the control, being these two treatments the most promising for controlling Cmm. The Mo extract in preventive and curative treatments had the highest numbers of leaves, 33.31 %. The enzymatic activity exhibited no discernible pattern when comparing healthy and diseased plants, measured 29 days after the confrontations. Gene expression suggested a role of SAR pathway in the protective treatment by Mo Ag-NPs. In conclusion, the application of AgNPs derived from Mo leaf extracts effectively reduces the disease severity caused by Cmm on tomato plants under greenhouse conditions.

Prompt antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticle decorated on HAp embedded NiFe2O4 nanocomposite (NiFe2O4@HAp-Ag) against pathogenic strains and investigation of its photocatalytic activity towards degradation of antibiotics

Local bacterial infection in clinics is still a difficult task and poses serious health threats to human. Systemic antibiotic administration typically results in negative side-effects and bacterial resistance and only has transient antibacterial activity. Several biomedical applications immensely prefer modified hydroxyapatite with excellent biocompatibility and antibacterial characteristics. Herein, we fabricate hydroxyapatite-embedded NiFe2O4 using in situ hydrothermal method and used as a support for silver nanoparticle onto its surface to achieve an effective biological response. The properties of the as-synthesized materials were characterized using several spectroscopic techniques which include X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet–diffuse reflectance spectroscopy spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the magnetic behavior of these nanocomposites was examined using the vibrating sample magnetometer technique. This ternary nanocomposite exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against both Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and klebsiella pneumoniae) as well as Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus). The MIC or minimum inhibitory concentration, MBC or minimum bactericidal concentration, the disc diffusion, bacterial growth rate, and inhibition rate tests were utilized for the examination of the antimicrobial effect of this synthesized nanocomposite against pathogenic strains. Along with this, we have also investigated its photocatalytic activity toward degradation of cefixime antibiotic under solar light and it shows excellent photodegradation performance. The fabricated nanocomposite demonstrated high reusability with good photostability. Notably, using magnetic decantation this prepared nanocomposite can be easily eliminated from the disinfected medium.

Synthesis of silver nanoparticles by aqueous extract of Zingiber officinale and their antibacterial activities against selected species

Abstract Silver nanoparticles have special plasmonic and antibacterial characteristics that make them efficient in a variety of commercial medical applications. According to recent research, chemically synthesized silver nanoparticles are harmful even in low concentrations. It was crucial to identify appropriate synthesis methods that may have low costs and be nontoxic to the environment. Zingiber officinale (ginger) extracts used to prepare silver nanoparticles were inexpensive and environmentally friendly, and the best physicochemical characteristics were analyzed. Silver nanoparticles were characterized by using UV-visible spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface Plasmon resonance peak at 425 nm was observed using UV-Visible spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy observed that the nanoparticles were spherical and ranged in size from 5 to 35 nm. The XRD pattern values of 2θ: 38.2o, 46.3o, and 64.58o are used to determine the planes (111), (200), and (220). The silver nanoparticle’s existence was verified by the face-centered cubic (FCC). Silver nanoparticles were found to have antibacterial efficacy against gram-positive Staphylococcus and gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella Aerogenes, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Escherichia coli. The antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles was observed using the agar well diffusion (AWD) method at three different concentrations (100 μg/ml, 75 μg/ml, and 50 μg/ml). The zone of inhibition measured against the bacterial strains pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Klebsiella aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus which were (18.4±1.25 mm, 16.9±0.74 mm, 14.8±1.25 mm), (16.8±0.96 mm, 14.6±0.76 mm, 14.0±1.15 mm), (19.7±0.76 mm, 18.2±0.66 mm, 15.4±1.15 mm), (16.6±0.67 mm, 14.2±0.23 mm, 12.8±0.78 mm) and (12±0.68 mm, 10±0.20 mm, 08±0.15 mm). These nanoparticles’ potent antibacterial properties may enable them to be employed as nanomedicines for a variety of gram-negative bacterial illness treatments.
