Media anthropology centers on an awareness of five points of articulation between the various media and anthropology: the study of media, reaching the public with media, gathering data with media, teaching with media, and applied media anthropology. Media anthropology is a diverse field and the reasons for its importance fall into four basic categories: the anthropologists' responsibilities to mankind, the anthropologists' responsibilities to the people they study, the anthropologists' responsibilities to the societies in which they live, and the anthropologists' responsibilities to themselves.
