Precast Parking Structures Enhance the Shops at Willow Bend

Three precast parking structures serve the new 1.35 million sq ft (125,000 sq m) Shops at Willow Bend, a shopping mall in Plano, Texas. The precast structures, featuring spandrels and field topped double tees, have space for 4400 cars and include one C-shaped facility that wraps around one anchor store on three sides, providing access to a number of mall shops. The structure's upper spandrel features a unique detail in its cast-in, high relief willow leaf pattern, which also was included in a metal grill attached to the exterior precast shear walls. Two precasters supplied the components, and the design team made full use of their skills and insights by bringing them into the project planning early. This facilitated a dramatic change to the design when zoning ordinances forced the project, after fabrication had begun, to include cast-in thin brick as a major part of the structure's interior. This article presents the design considerations and construction highlights of the project.

JCPenney Co., Inc., recently opened a 126,000-sq ft, two-level retail store in Albuquerque, NM. The project construction was accomplished using a design-build format. This process allows preliminary construction processes to begin while the design is finalized. Law/Kingdom, Inc. was assigned the architectural and engineering services for this building. During the process of design, the team decided to study the addition of evaporative cooling into the air system. This article reviews system design, selection, and performance using an indirect evaporative system in the HVAC system. It also demonstrates the company`s design approach on the original equipment selection for a typical anchor store.

Shopping center image, consideration, and choice: Anchor store contribution

This study investigates the impact that specific anchor stores and other physical characteristics of shopping centers have on the image consumers' possess for shopping centers, and through image, on indicators of shopping center patronage, such as the aggregate consideration and the share of choice. Most research that has collected image ratings data for shopping centers has studied a limited number of centers and analyzed the dimensionality of the image data across consumers. But, from a management perspective, it is not clear why shopping center managers would be concerned about the dimensionality of image when the analysis is conducted across a sample of consumers. From a manager's perspective, it may be more important to identify center characteristics that determine the image of the shopping centers in their market.
