A triangular and a rectangular finite element, both based on the hybrid formulation, are presented for the analysis of plate bending problems of arbitrary planform. Static and dynamic results are presented which demonstrate generally the superiority of the hybrid elements over the equivalent displacement elements. Results for the present elements are also compared with those for displacement assumption elements having strain degrees of freedom. In general the present elements are not as accurate but, of course, the strain degrees of freedom make the more complex elements difficult to use in general engineering problems.
