Towards an analog system design environment

An analog circuit design environment and its key features are presented. These are multifunctionality, advanced modeling, novel simulation approaches, general sizing algorithms, hierarchy, and automatic and interactive layout generation capabilities. Subcarrier multiplexed lightwave systems for broad-band distribution

Microwave subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) is an important approach to the design of lightwave systems for broadband distribution. Recent progress in the design and performance of both analog and digital multichannel SCM systems is reviewed. The application of broadband SCM systems to both passive and optically amplified distribution networks is discussed. The discussion covers the general features of SCM systems; the electrooptic components that have been used in the system experiments described here, including laser intensity noise and noise due to intermodulation products; the carrier-to-noise ratio requirements; some multichannel FM systems experiments; and a 20-channel digital systems experiment; and a hybrid system carrying 60 FM SCM channels plus a 100-Mb/s baseband digital channel. Some Design Considerations for Narrow-Band Medical Telemetry Over the Switched-Message Network

Some of the considerations leading to the design of a three-channel narrow-band analog system for transmitting medical data, primarily electrocardiograms (EKG), over dialed connections are discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of several methods of implementing such systems are compared on the basis of the general systems requirements, the nature of the data to be transmitted, and the limitations imposed by the transmission medium. One system developed for multichannel medical applications and its performance are described in some detail.

Using a Computer for the Design of Analog and Digital Control Systems

The paper illustrates the use of an analog computer to aid in the design of a feedback control system by building a working model on which performance measurements can be made. The model is made to duplicate more closely the physical control system by use of the computer in combination with actual production hardware. The particular system described is a digital speed regulated dc motor drive using a 3-phase full wave control silicon controlled rectifier armature supply.
