Asymmetric synthesis of amines by the reductive amination of ketones using (+) and (−) norephedrine followed by periodate oxidation.

A new route for the synthesis of aralkyl primary amines is reported, where the commercially available (+) or (−) norephedrine is condensed with aralkyl ketones followed by hydrogenation of the Schiff base using platinum catalyst. The chiral β-aminoalcohols thus obtained were oxidized by periodate to yield the aralkyl primary amines in 54–66% enantiomeric excess.

Piperazine derivatives used as components in the amine-ketone photocoinitiation system

In this work, the mechanism of a ketone—amine system, containing N-ethyl- N′-phenyl piperazine as amine, in the photoinitiation of polymerization was studied. It was found that this amine, which contains both dimethyl aniline and triethyl amine, is a less efficient photoinitiator when used with a ketone, owing to the electron hopping phenomenon. The results obtained are discussed and the mechanism is further confirmed by the addition of acid to promote the photoiniation efficiency by protonation of one of the amines in piperazine.

A Simple Method for Preparation of Secondary Aromatic Amines

A simple and efficient method for the preparation of secondary N-alkylarylamines via reductive amination of ketones with primary aromatic amines using activated zinc/acetic acid is described. It requires only equimolar amounts of the starting compounds and affords good yields of the corresponding amines (50-90%). It is not applicable to aldehydes nor aliphatic amines

Abstract A number of steroids containing cyclic amino functions have been prepared and studied for biological activities, and some of them have proved to be clinically useful as a neuromuscular blocking agent, an antitumour agent, and so on.1 As the conventional methods, the reactions of cyclic amines with halides2 or epoxides,3 the reductive amination of ketones,4 and the reduction of enamines5 have been widely used for introducing these amino functions into steroid nucleus.

Photopolymerization using sensitizers of binary system of aromatic hydrocarbon and amine

AbstractPhotopolymerizations of acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate, using binary sensitizers of aromatic hydrocarbon and amine, were investigated at 30°C in N,N‐dimethylformamide under the irradiation with a light of λ > 300 nm. Naphthalene, anthracene, and phenanthrene were employed as aromatic hydrocarbons in the experiment. The binary system was effective for the initiation of the monomers. The combinations of naphthalene with tertiary amines, triethylamine and N,N‐dimethylaniline, were remarkably effective among various combinations. The rate of polymerization with naphthalene–triethylamine sensitizer was observed to be proportional to the first, ½, and ½ powers of monomer, naphthalene, and triethylamine concentrations, respectively. The kinetics of the photopolymerization are proposed, and the initiation schemes are discussed, comparing them with those in the system sensitized by aromatic ketone–amine reported previously.

Advances in the field of the synthesis of amino derivatives of terpenoids

Information on the synthesis of amino derivatives of monoterpenes by the reduction of oximes by the Leuckart reaction, and by the reductive amination of ketones by amines and nitriles is generalized. The stereochemistry of the amines formed as the result of the above-mentioned reactions is discussed.

Synthesis and structure of 2-formyl-3-hydroxybenzo[b]-selenophene anils

Catalttic amination of retones of various structures

1. Reductive amination of ketones in presence of platinized silica gel gives only primary amines. 2. The optimum reaction temperature lies in the range 170–240. 3. Aliphatic ketones having like radicals give higher yields of amines than ketones having unlike radicals. 4. Equal increases in the numbers of carbon atoms of the two identical radicals of a ketone do not lead to reduction in yield of amine. 5. Increase in the number of carbon atoms in only one of the radicals of the ketone leads to a reduction in the yield of amine. This reduction in yield is the greater, the greater the difference in the numbers of carbon atoms in the two radicals of the ketone. 6. In the the reductive amination reaction, cyclopentanone gives insignificant yields of amine, owing to the occurrence under these conditions of condensation and resinification reactions.
