The zoos and aquaria of the world, together with a number of other institutions with important animal collections, such as primate research centres, universities and bird parks, are listed alphabetically under the towns in which they are situated; the towns in turn, are listed alphabetically under their country and, with American and Canadian zoos, under their state as well. In order to save space, information that remains the same from year to year (e. g. details of educational facilities) has been excluded. This information can be found in the zoo list of Volume 3 of the Yearbook, or in the zoo list of the volume in which the zoo in question appears for the first time. Details of admission prices, hours of opening, numbers of staff working in different departments, and, apart from administrative directors, the names of non‐scientific or non‐curatorial staff have also been excluded. This information can be found in Volume 6 of the Yearbook. Zoos which have supplied information to the Yearbook for the first time are listed in full and are marked with an asterisk, thus *. Where zoos have returned questionnaires in the past, but have failed to do so in 1967, this has been indicated by the words ‘No reply’; animal and attendance figures for these zoos are taken from those of the previous year. The abbreviation ‘Att.’ means attendance figures for 1966. The abbreviation ‘Fin. Aid’ means financial aid for 1966. Unless otherwise indicated, figures for animals relate to 31. 12. 1966. The Editor would like to emphasise that the Yearbook list of zoos and aquaria is not a list of recommendation.
