Homoleptic bis(dipyrrinato)zinc(II) complexes, (Dprm)2-Zn and (EDprm)2-Zn, were synthesized with the family of dipyrrinato ligands, 1,3,7,9-tetramethyl-5-phenyldipyrromethene (Dprm) and 1,3,7,9-tetramethyl-5-(4-ethoxyphenyl)dipyrromethene (EDprm). X-ray crystal structures reveal that complexes are four-coordinate with distorted tetrahedral geometry. The catalytic activities of both complexes on oxidation of various alcohols (1-phenyl ethanol, benzyl alcohol, cyclohexanol, cinnamyl alcohol) were investigated. The oxidation reactions were carried out in different organic solvents, temperature with t-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP), H2O2, and peracetic acid as an oxygen source. The complexes showed very high catalytic activity toward alcohols in acetonitrile at 70 °C.
