Ear therapy has been increasing and has greater popularity in Brazil, because of the ease of the procedure and low cost and rapid response. The use of non-pharmacological therapies for pain management has been a promising medium in the care of patients with chronic pain. This study evaluated the effect of auriculotherapy on the level of stress and quality of life of patients with chronic pain. The study included 47 subjects with chronic pain that were treated once a week for 5 weeks. Evaluations were held before the first session and the fifth session. The results are presented with the comparison between the initial media and the fifth session. For the stress assessment, the inventory of stress symptoms for adults Lipp (ISSL) was used. This questionnaire assesses stress classifying it into 3 parts: alarm, resistance and exhaustion. The evaluation of quality of life was made by SF12.v2 questionnaire. Before starting the study participants signed the free clarification. After 5 sessions there was a reduction of the stress level in the alarm phase (U=838,00, Z=5,712, p=0,000, d=1,17), resistance phase (U=833,000, Z=-5,722, p=0,000, d=1,26) and exhaustion phase (U=1182,50, Z=−4,025, p=0,000, d=0,77). After 5 sessions there was an improvement in the components of quality of life: Physical Functioning (U=803,50, Z=−1,985, p=0,047, d=0,35), Role Physical (U=742,00, Z=−2,223, p=0,026, d=0,46), Bodily Pain (U=386,00, Z=−5,231, p=0,000, d=1,28), General Health (U= 774,50, Z=−2,12, p= 0,033, d=0,49), Vitality (U=944,00, Z=−,564, p=0,573, d=0,09), Social Functioning (U=750,00, Z=−2,267, p=0,023, d=0,60), Role Emotional (U=684,50, Z=−2,554, p=0,011, d=0,55), Mental Health (U=592,50, Z=−3,431, p=0,001, d=0,77). O PCS (U=485,00, Z=−4,138, p=0,000, d=0,67) e MCS (U=654,00, Z=−2,750, p=0,006, d=0,57). The ear therapy was effective to improve stress levels and most domains of quality of life. However, there was no improvement in vitality.
