As continuation from the first Maritime Sciences and Advanced Technology (MSAT) conference on August 3-5, 2017 in Denpasar, Bali, we heartfully worked on the 2nd MSAT Conference “Marine Science and Technology in the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals” taken place at Makassar, 7-8th August 2019 (https://msat.fitb.itb.ac.id/). This conference is one of the implementations of our Memorandum of Agreement between the Faculty of Earth Science and Technology - ITB, Geospatial Information Agency of Indonesia, and also the Ocean College Zhejiang University. We have chosen the theme carefully; the Marine Science and Technology in the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals as promoted by the United Nations. The Maritime science and technology targets at least the SDG no 13 and 14; Climate Action and Life below water. While several others like no.1 (No Poverty) and 2 (Zero Hunger) and no.7 (Affordable and clean energy) are also strongly workable from the Maritime section especially our country as we are the second largest coastline in the world. This makes 60% of our citizen live at the coastal area.As we have explained briefly in the preface of our first Conference proceeding (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1755-1315/162/1/011001/pdf) about the importance impact of the geographical position of Indonesian Seas, we have welcomed various research findings from the aspects of Ocean-Atmosphere Dynamics, Marine Hazard and Coastal Degradation, Marine Resources, Conservation and ICZM, Marine Geodesy and Satellite Oceanography, and Ocean Engineering and Technology – as have become the sessions. This international conference has presented invited talks from 3 countries (Indonesia, Germany and France) as keynote speakers. The honourable President of Hasanuddin University also kindly gave the welcome speech for the conference. This university has been our strong local partner of holding this event and also contributed many presentations, papers and reviewers. All in all we would deliver our deep and sincere gratitude to all the organizers; the Institut Teknologi Bandung-Faculty of Earth Science and Technology, Research Group-Department of Oceanography, The Spatial Information Agency (Badan Informasi Geospasial Indonesia), the Hasanuddin University – Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, the City of Makassar and all our precious and helpful domestic and international partners.Photos are available in the pdf
