Adaptation of Dream of the Red Chamber in the Age Ofmass Media: A Study on the Transformation of Animationand the Sustainable Development of Cultural Inheritance

Context: In recent years, animation has become an important vehicle for adapting literary works with its unique artistic charm and wide audience base. Given the classic status and influence of Dream of the Red Chamber, it is both necessary and feasible to adapt it into an animated film. Such an adaptation will transcend the limitations of traditional media, showcase the artistic charm of the work, attract young audiences, expand communication channels, and contribute to the sustainable development of cultural heritage by linking traditions with contemporary cultural values. Objective: The main aim of this study is to delve into the phenomenon of animated adaptations of The Dream of the Red Chamber, highlighting its importance in disseminating the classic work, and investigating its potential contribution to realizing sustainable cultural heritage development as a bridge between traditions and innovations. Method: This study adopts the literature review method and case study method to review the history and current situation of the film and television adaptation of Dream of the Red Chamber, and analyses the characteristics and difficulties in the process of adaptation, as well as the communication effect of the animation adaptation on the original text. Results: The study reveals how animation has injected new vitality into this classic literary work and effectively attracted young audience groups. It also highlights how the new media platform can broaden the communication channels of the anime adaptation, thus promoting the cross-cultural communication of Dream of the Red Chamber. Contribution: This study not only highlights the important role of animation adaptation in the inheritance of Chinese culture but also provides theoretical support for the integration and development of the animation industry and classic literature.

This paper aims to interpret the media's influence on customer behavior within the Credit Suisse Group from the vantage point of social psychology, elucidating the underlying drivers of financial decision-making in the age of mass media. Through an analysis encompassing the relationship between financial decision-making and social psychology theories, the distinctive features characterizing Credit Suisse Group's customer behavior, and the impact of media discourse on customer conduct, this study delves into the role of social cognition in shaping customer behavior as well as the affective ramifications of media discourse on customers. The findings underscore the pivotal roles of social cognition and media discourse in financial decision-making. This study holds significant theoretical implications and practical relevance for comprehending the impetuses behind financial decisions and the sway of mass media on customer behavior.

Fake News Detection System Using Machine Learning and Deep Learning

The rise of fake news in today's age of mass media poses a serious threat to the credibility of the media and public discourse [1]. This project focuses on developing effective and robust solutions to detect fake news by integrating multiple machine learning algorithms. This project uses a variety of techniques, including natural language processing (NLP), clustering, classification algorithms and deep learning, to identify the content of patterns that indicate error messages. The project first explores NLP algorithms to extract content from news media content. These features allow the system to understand and classify the language used, helping to identify language patterns associated with fake news. Additionally, emotional analysis plays an important role in visualizing the tone and content of the text, further increasing the accuracy of the findings. The integration method is used to combine various machine learning models. By combining the performance of various algorithms, the system aims to overcome individual limitations and provide a more comprehensive and effective evaluation of media content. This approach helps increase the power of fake news detection and adapts to different fraud strategies. The project also includes deep learning algorithms, especially neural networks, to capture relationships in data. The use of deep learning ensures that the system can recognize nuances in the language and clarifies the complex information of the error message. Continuous updating and reworking of machine learning models is an important part of the process, allowing the system to constantly adapt to fraud strategies [2]. The aim of fake news detection system is to create a well-informed, weak search for fake news that can help create greater awareness and public approval. Sergei Chakhotin against the Swastika: Mass Psychology and Scientific Organization in the Iron Front's Three Arrows Campaign

Abstract This article details the influence of Russian psychologist Sergei Chakhotin on the propaganda of the Iron Front, an antifascist organization that resisted the rise of the Nazis in the dying days of the Weimar Republic. Notably the creator of the Three Arrows symbol, Chakhotin espoused theories and methods that used Ivan Pavlov's notion of the conditioned reflex and Fredrick Taylor's theory of scientific management to transform socialist propaganda to better combat the rise of fascism. By scrutinizing Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) periodicals and Iron Front propaganda, I argue that Chakhotin's ideas played a crucial role in catalyzing changes in the form and content of street campaigning throughout 1932. Chakhotin provided a scientific lens through which his allies in the SPD could view and understand the mass appeal of the Nazis, as well as the necessary changes in party tactics that were required in the age of mass media, popular spectacle, and emotional struggle.

“It is more than needed in our country”. Contemporary Czech images of Scandinavia through the lens of literary criticism

Before the age of mass media and mass travel (including tourism), cultural stereotypes were formed and communicated predominantly utilizing literature and other written sources (Fischer 1987). Nowadays, people travel extensively; they can get direct information from radio, television, and social media, yet stereotypes still seem to prevail. The general Czech contemporary notion of Scandinavian societies comes to the fore in the reviews of translated Scandinavian literature and Scandinavian (or Nordic) films, written by professionals and published in the edited press or the largely unedited social media. In these reviews, one can discern certain paradigms that doubtlessly amount to stereotypes. In this article, I will present a qualitative discourse analysis of Scandinavian stereotypes in the Czech reception of the Scandinavian arts, especially literature, taking into account the intertextual and contextual aspects of the Scandinavian ethnotypes occurring in reviews and paratexts in Czech mass media. I focus on two explicitly addressed images: The emancipated Scandinavian woman, and the alleged Scandinavian egalitarianism. Finally, I will resort to Tzvetan Todorov’s typology of relations to the Other. I will try to explain the activist criticism of Czech reviewers, who tend to compare the Czech situation with the Scandinavian one, using Todorov’s three axes describing the relation to alterity.

The second section examines the role of mass media in shaping consumer behavior and the rise of fast fashion. Finally, the third section explores the challenges and opportunities for creating a more sustainable and inclusive fashion industry in the age of mass media. By examining the complex dynamics between mass media and fashion, this study contributes to ongoing discussions around the need for a more responsible and equitable fashion industry. It is crucial to gain a deeper understanding of the role of mass media in shaping cultural values, social norms, and environmental practices for creating a sustainable and inclusive fashion industry.

Analysis of Fan Culture and its Formation Mechanism in the Age of Mass Media

With the development of Internet media technology, fans are playing a more and more important role, and their behavior has an important impact on society, which is a social and cultural force that cannot be ignored. The development of film and television industry and the spread of IP dramas are inseparable from the promotion of fans. Fans' culture is constantly moving from the small crowd to the public, from being misunderstood to understanding. Today, fan culture has become a cultural phenomenon that can't be ignored, and the existence of fan groups has attracted more and more attention and discussion from all walks of life. The continuous development of new media technology and Internet technology has changed the power structure of the audience to obtain and disseminate information, and promoted the empowerment of groups on the basis of self-empowerment, thus promoting the empowerment of society and organizations. The formation of fan culture is also bound to be inseparable from the interaction between individual fans and culture. From emotion to identity to active participation, this series of interaction processes completed the evolution from individual to fan. On this basis, it further extends the process of how the fan culture, which was originally a minority culture, merged into popular culture. This paper also further reflects on whether fan culture is a form of "carnival".

Digital Da’wah Transformation: Cultural And Methodological Change Of Islamic Communication In The Current Digital Age

Modern civilisation is characterised with unprecedented technological innovations that have led to major cultural shifts. Religion remains one of the primary phenomena that has been impacted the most by the current digital revolution. Da’wah, being one of the central tenets of Islam, is no exception to this global cyberculture. In order to remain relevant and address the needs of the current Muslim community, da’wah needs to adapt to the dynamics of the current digitization of society. This article discusses the transformation of Da’wah in the age of mass media, digital communication and the internet. This research establishes how the global digital revolution has opened new avenues for da’wah with the potential to disseminate the message of Islam far and wide. But at the same time the digitization of communication and the culture that it has constructed has unprecedented ethical implications related to cyber-culture, cyber-ethics, hyperreality and mass cognitive dissonance. Thus, while it’s imperative to ensure that the method of conducting da'wah must be relevant to the current era, it necessarily must conform completely to the ideals of the Quran and Sunnah.

Information and Scientific Impact of Advanced Therapies in the Age of Mass Media: Altmetrics-Based Analysis of Tissue Engineering.

BackgroundTissue engineering (TE) constitutes a multidisciplinary field aiming to construct artificial tissues to regenerate end-stage organs. Its development has taken place since the last decade of the 20th century, entailing a clinical revolution. TE research groups have worked and shared relevant information in the mass media era. Thus, it would be interesting to study the online dimension of TE research and to compare it with traditional measures of scientific impact.ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to evaluate the online dimension of TE documents from 2012 to 2018 using metadata obtained from the Web of Science (WoS) and Altmetric and to develop a prediction equation for the impact of TE documents from altmetric scores.MethodsWe analyzed 10,112 TE documents through descriptive and statistical methods. First, the TE temporal evolution was exposed for WoS and 15 online platforms (news, blogs, policy, Twitter, patents, peer review, Weibo, Facebook, Wikipedia, Google, Reddit, F1000, Q&A, video, and Mendeley Readers). The 10 most cited TE original articles were ranked according to the normalized WoS citations and the normalized Altmetric Attention Score. Second, to better comprehend the TE online framework, correlation and factor analyses were performed based on the suitable results previously obtained for the Bartlett sphericity and Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin tests. Finally, the linear regression model was applied to elucidate the relation between academics and online media and to construct a prediction equation for TE from altmetrics data.ResultsTE dynamic shows an upward trend in WoS citations, Twitter, Mendeley Readers, and Altmetric Scores. However, WoS and Altmetric rankings for the most cited documents clearly differ. When compared, the best correlation results were obtained for Mendeley Readers and WoS (ρ=0.71). In addition, the factor analysis identified 6 factors that could explain the previously observed differences between academic institutions and the online platforms evaluated. At this point, the mathematical model constructed is able to predict and explain more than 40% of TE WoS citations from Altmetric scores.ConclusionsScientific information related to the construction of bioartificial tissues increasingly reaches society through different online media. Because the focus of TE research importantly differs when the academic institutions and online platforms are compared, basic and clinical research groups, academic institutions, and health politicians should make a coordinated effort toward the design and implementation of adequate strategies for information diffusion and population health education.

Cultural Diplomacy and Europe's Twenty Years’ Crisis, 1919–1939: Introduction

Photographs of the German and Soviet pavilions facing off at the Paris International Exposition in 1937 offer an iconic image of the interwar period, and with good reason. This image captures the interwar period's great conflict of ideologies, the international interconnectedness of the age and the aestheticisation of political and ideological conflict in the age of mass media and mass spectacle. [Figure 1] Last but not least, it captures the importance in the 1930s of what we now call cultural diplomacy. Both pavilions – Germany's, in Albert Speer's neo-classical tower bloc crowned with a giant swastika, and the Soviet Union's, housed in Boris Iofan's forward-thrusting structure topped by Vera Mukhina's monumental sculptural group – represented the outcome of a large-scale collaboration between political leaders and architects, artists, intellectuals and graphic and industrial designers seeking to present their country to foreign visitors in a manner designed to advance the country's interests in the international arena. Each pavilion, that is, made an outreach that wasdiplomatic– in the sense that it sought to mediate between distinct polities – using means that werecultural– in the sense that they deployed refined aesthetic practices (like the arts and architecture) and in the sense that they highlighted the distinctive features, or ‘culture’, of a particular group (like the German nation or the Soviet state).

Journalism Education and Fake News

This article offers a scholarly review of the literature and research on journalism education and fake news from an international and a local (Croatian) perspective. The purpose of this paper is to examine the connection between the education for journalists as a scholarly and academic discipline (as well as a teaching practice) and the issues caused by fake news in the digital age of mass media. Based on a comprehensive critical conceptual analysis of the body of knowledge available on the subject, it was determined that there is a diverse discussion about the status of journalism education regarding fake news. In that context, fake news has so far been internationally researched from several angles – curriculum content, journalism students, journalism and media studies, journalism practice, media audience, etc. When addressing the issue of education of journalists and fake news, three streams can be singled out. The first and most voluminous one refers to the systematic formal or additional education regarding media and information literacy. The next one refers to various changes related to the higher education system for the education of journalists, but without any concrete propositions for system reconstruction or upgrading. The last one advocates providing additional professional education to employed journalists. From the local perspective, even though only two articles suggest journalism education as a solution for the problems caused by fake news, based on thorough research it can be concluded that fake news and journalism education are not yet topics of interest among communication scholars in Croatia.

A Parasociology

Abstract In 1956, American researchers Horton and Wohl coined the term “para-social interaction,” defined as the bond of intimacy that a consumer of media feels towards the “image” of the performer. Later developed into the notion of “celebrity worship” by researchers, “parasociality” has a relationship to the worshipful dynamics of totemism—in which the image of the animal exceeds the actual being in sacredness—as described by French sociologist Émile Durkheim. Discussing French author Jean Genet’s exploration of the unlikely forms of totemic worship common in the age of mass media, this article posits that Genet’s “parasociology of religion” demonstrates the way in which Durkheimian sociology of religion can offer insight into ostensibly secular contemporary practices, including those of fan communities.

ART AND COMMUNICATION AS A NOVEL EXPERIENCE IN MODERN CULTURE

In this paper we discuss the deadlocks of defining art in modern culture. The lack of criteria and modernism revisited are of crucial issue in this account. The theoretical mainframe of our approach is founded on the Frankfurt School thinkers (Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, Walter Benjamin), and of course Jürgen Habermas. This theoretical apparatus also draws on contemporary accounts given by Sorbonne Professor Marc Jimenez and art critic John A. Walker.[1] The paper discusses whether fine art may survive, in what forms – and to what purpose – in an age of mass media and in conditions of rapid networked communication. The paper sets off from the critical role radical art plays in today’s divided yet global world and on the continuing debates between high art and low culture, but reflects on the interaction between art, media and technology.
 To support our argument we suggest Body Art and other web/digital and technological applications in art, and the cyber-art currently being produced for the internet. The paper acknowledges the numerous interactions between art and culture in a postmodern pluralistic world, and draws from the vast range of contemporary works of art to illustrate and to criticize theoretical points. The true test of theory in aesthetics is their application to particular cases. When a theory shows limitations in such an application, we gain clues as to what theoretical adjustments or innovations are called for to accommodate today’s works.
 The introductory part of the essay comprehensively surveys recent debates on works of art, mass culture and society, and their socio-philosophical significance. The main discussion refers to the work of Walter Benjamin and Jürgen Habermas, aptly commented on by Marc Jimenez;[2] after exploring the complex relationships between culture and art as it’s reflected in that work, the argument provides an account of the 1980s political turn in aesthetics and explicates the impact of new communication technologies in modern culture. The narration is enhanced by specific examples of works of art in the era of mass media, web and digital culture, and underlines both the styles’ pluralism and the variety of parameters affecting the interaction between art and mass media communication. Critical findings and suggestions for further research conclude the paper.

Women writers and the fictionalisation of the classics

ABSTRACTTranslation studies scholars have traditionally studied texts that are called translations in the receiving cultures. But in the age of mass media, blogs, online journals, reader reviews, and fan fiction, the latest generation has taken translation to a new stage. Linguistic accuracy, once the primary criterion for analysis, recedes in importance; creativity and innovation are valued, and social and political factors move to the fore. This paper discusses the gender politics of such a movement. In my book Translation and Rewriting in the Age of Post-Translation Studies (2017), I looked at film, theatre, and music adaptations, focusing on how rewritings can effect social change. This essay turns to the fictionalisation of classical texts by contemporary women writers, including Margaret Atwood, Pat Barker, and Madeline Miller. I suggest that translation scholars be open to new forms being introduced by such women writers and focus on more social arena where political change is already underway.

Mill and the Limits of Freedom of Expression

The rise of fake news, climate change denial, and the anti-vaccination movement all pose important challenges to contemporary views about freedom of expression. This paper attempts to delineate the limits of freedom of expression, specifically with regard to truth, lies, and harm. My strategy is to offer a critical reading of John Stuart Mill’s On Liberty to demonstrate its enduring relevance to contemporary issues in the freedom of expression. My critical reading of Mill provides guidance on when state interference is justified, the role of education, the nature of harm in the age of mass media and globalisation, and the relevance of truth and lies in the freedom of expression. Ultimately, I demonstrate that the Millian account I present can deal adequately with contemporary issues in the freedom of expression in line with the current social context, relevant empirical facts, and our considered judgements.

Stereotyped fans and social critique: Miguel de Cervantes’s Don Quixote and Eminem’s ‘Stan’

Abstract This article compares two very different texts, but important similarities can be established between Cervantes’s Don Quixote and Eminem’s ‘Stan’. These include shared explorations of fandom and influence. However, whilst Eminem discusses the dangers of his own music, Cervantes addresses the influence of an entire genre: the Chivalric Romance. Still, inherent to Cervantes’s critique of poorly written Romances is recognition of his own accountability as an author. Therefore, both texts’ creators consider the responsibilities that their influential position entails, examining this in reference to an apparently stereotypically drawn ‘pathological fan’. Jensen argues that the pathologizing of fans masks ‘an implicit critique of modern life’ (2003: 9), but both ‘Stan’ and Don Quixote’s social critique is quite explicit. This is despite Cervantes’s novel being produced before the modern era (as the age of mass media), and the relevance of other arguments made by Jensen – for example, those concerning stigmatization, compensation and understandings of the fan versus the aficionado – are also examined in reference to Don Quixote as a ‘pre-modern’ text. Nevertheless, fan characterization as a tool of social critique remains the central focus of this analysis, as it is through this that the allegedly negative stereotype of the fan depicted by both Cervantes and Eminem can be re-evaluated.

In 1960 the Society of Architectural Historians, then in its second decade of existence, appeared in the New York Times on two occasions: in an article about the annual meeting and in an advertisement about the benefits of membership. Though unrelated, these mentions provide a good starting point for exploring perceptions of the learned society from within and without, raising issues about the nature and character of SAH as a dynamic organization whose aims and aspirations have evolved over seventy-five years. In October 1960, when SAH had 1,500 members, the society placed an advertisement in the New York Times Book Review inviting “the participation and support of all professionals and laymen who share its interest in our architectural past.”1 SAH was hoping to swell its ranks through direct appeal to the paper’s 1.3 million Sunday readers, inducing them to attend its meetings, join its tours, and read its journal. Complete with a mail-in coupon, the ad revealed SAH as a learned society coming to terms with the age of mass media and mass consumption, as far as these were manifest in the demographics of the readership of the Times Book Review . Here, in effect, was a public declaration that enthusiasm for the subject, along with an ability to pay $7.50 in dues, was as valid a qualification for SAH membership as an academic affiliation or any other conventionally recognized credential. You needn’t be learned about architecture, the ad implied; you need only be keen on buildings. Though the society’s Newsletter noted that the ad brought a “good response,” it is not clear how many Book Review readers, if any, accepted SAH’s invitation.2 This big-tent self-image was a departure from the conventional public persona of a learned society in the middle of the twentieth century, which is exactly …
