Almost 80 percent of young adults, including college students, are not aware they might be at risk for contracting measles, according to a December 1995 Gallup poll. More than half the students polled said they had not received the recommended second dose of measles vaccine. Students in post-secondary institutions are considered at greater risk for contracting measles because they often live in close quarters, increasing chances for spreading the highly contagious virus, reports the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention9s Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices.
