Upaya Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Siswa SD Negeri 1 Parapat Melalui Model Problem Based Learning (PBL) pada Pendidikan Agama Katolik

of Catholic Religious Education and Ethics aims to shape students into individuals who have faith, piety, and noble character. This research focuses on increasing the spiritual potential of students through the introduction and cultivation of religious values. However, the lecture method that has been used has resulted in low motivation and student learning outcomes. This research was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Parapat with the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model to improve student independence and learning outcomes. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which is carried out in two cycles. The results of the pre-test showed that only 2 out of 6 students were complete. In the first cycle, there was an increase in the average score to 76.7 with classical completeness of 70%. In the second cycle, the average grade increases to 100%, with 100% of students achieving completion. This study concludes that the PBL method is effective in improving student learning outcomes, independence, and creativity. The advice for teachers is to apply the PBL method consistently, for students to actively seek learning resources, and for schools to recommend PBL methods in each subject. This research emphasizes the importance of further development in the application of PBL for religious education.

Evaluation of a training programme to foster employability skills in professional training: a case study

PurposeThe aim of this work is to evaluate the effectiveness of a training programme for developing employability skills, including digital competency and soft skills (problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, leadership, decision-making and creativity), in professional-training programmes.Design/methodology/approachIt presents a case study where students from a professional training centre were evaluated twice, before and after doing the programme. The results from both were compared to determine whether there have been improvements. We also analysed whether there were differences by gender in the pretest and the posttest.FindingsWe observed that most of the students improved in both digital competency and in soft skills after completing the programme. In the case of digital competency, greater improvement was apparent in the areas of collaboration and communication and in digital content creation. Similar results were found for all competencies in the case of soft skills.Originality/valueThis learning programme had a positive impact on the competency development of professional-training students. Continuous training and advice for teachers and personalized monitoring during the implementation of this programme resulted in an apparent improvement in students’ employability skills.

Kemampuan Siswa Kelas X SMA Negeri 6 OKU Menulis Cerpen dalam Pembelajaran Bercerita Berpasangan

The aim of this research is to describe the teaching and learning process of class X SMA Negeri 6 OKU students writing short stories in learning to tell stories in pairs and to explain the ability of class The method used in this research is descriptive method. Data collection techniques use observation techniques and test techniques. In making short stories using the learning technique of learning to tell stories in pairs. The results of the short story writing test in pair storytelling learning showed that of the 30 samples who got a score of 66 and above, there were 23 people (76.67%), 7 students who got a score of 65 or below (23.33%). Based on these results, it can be concluded that class X.2 students at SMA Negeri 6 OKU are able to write short stories in learning to tell stories in pairs. The advice for teachers is that they should always provide motivation to students, so that students are conditioned and happy to participate in learning. Students should take advantage of the opportunity given by the teacher to ask questions about learning material that is unclear and not yet understood, and increase their vocabulary. For researchers, with this research researchers can find out the abilities of class X.2 students at SMA Negeri 6 OKU. For other researchers, it is hoped that they can conduct research on writing short stories using different media, methods, and techniques in the future.

Setting the stage for successful inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorder: Supports to generate and process mathematical language

AbstractStudents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are included in the general education classroom more often than ever before. Despite mathematical strengths and early success, these students experience poor outcomes (academic and employment) compared to their typically developing peers. The language of mathematics increases in complexity, use, and expectations as students age. To facilitate the development of mathematical proficiency for students with ASD, teachers can incorporate instructional strategies to support language processing and use in mathematics. This manuscript provides practical advice for teachers who want to support math language for students with ASD in the general education environment including (a) the importance of these supports, (b) specific recommendations, (c) visual and descriptive examples, and (d) additional resources.

JOHN HOLT'S IDEAS IN CONTEXT OF HOME EDUCATION OF UKRAINIAN CHILDREN UNDER WARTIME CONDITIONS

Aim: To define J. Holt’s ideas in the context of home education of children under wartime conditions. Methods: To achieve the goal, mainly theoretical research methods were used: the biograph-ical method for determining the main periods of J. Holt’s life, his professional and pedagogi-cal development; content analysis of J. Holt’s pedagogical heritage, study of the works of domestic and foreign researchers, analysis, synthesis, classification and generalization of facts regarding the genesis of J. Holt’s ideas about teacher’s pedagogical mastery; the meth-od of scientific extrapolation, which made it possible to determine the spread of J. Holt’s ideas in the world pedagogical space; and the method of pedagogical transformation for clarifying the possibilities of applying his pedagogical ideas in home education of Ukrainian refugees.Results: In his works, J. Holt focused attention on the study of thinking, cognitive interests, speech, during learning to read, and mathematics of elementary school children. It is worth emphasizing that the legacy of J. Holt is relevant in the context of home education of children of Ukrainian refugees in Poland. We have singled out the educator’s ideas that contain valu-able advice for teachers, parents, and guardians who aim to teach children at home.Conclusions: J. Holt’s ideas do not lose their relevance, they are predictive in nature, and his works are the subject of deep interest not only for professionals, but also for all those who are not indifferent to the problems of implementing home education, which is rapidly spreading in the global pedagogical space.

A Pragmatic Approach to Preparing Novice Doctoral Qualitative Researchers

Fifty percent of social science and education doctoral students in the United States fail to complete their programs. Within this context, studies addressing research methods pedagogy and qualitative methods in particular, continue to be limited. This mixed-methods case study addresses these issues by: 1) using the Ready Develop Integrate Perform (RDIP) model to frame the competency-based design and implementation of an introductory doctoral qualitative core course and its supporting learning management system; and, 2) examining effectiveness using a framework of direct and indirect assessment evidence from online and face-to-face learners. The current design scaffolds students through qualitative research methodology and methods learning and culminates with the implementation of an individually-chosen authentic research project. A sample of online and face-to-face students, representing 37% of eligible participants (n=23), reported a stronger sense of readiness for independent research and dissertation work. In addition to expanding the qualitative methods pedagogical literature and supporting the improvement of doctoral research education, this paper a competency-based design that may be implemented in any disciplinary setting. The detailed blueprint and implementation advice for university teachers makes this work relevant to a broad multidisciplinary and international audience.

Low reading comprehension can have a negative impact on students' motivation and self-efficacy. Students with low reading comprehension skills often have difficulty understanding the material presented, so they may feel unable to understand the material. This study aims to examine the effect of using the approachGenerating Interaction Between Schemata and Text (GIST) on reading comprehension, learning motivation, and self-efficacy of third grade students at SD Negeri Serang 03. The research methodology used in this study was the use of quantitative methods during data collection and analysis. Data collection was carried out using a quasi-experimental design withpretest-posttest control group design. The use of this method can help students better understand reading, increase self-confidence in learning, and increase learning motivation. This positive and constructive feedback can help students feel more confident about their ability to learn and achieve their learning goals. Overall, this research makes an important contribution to the development of teaching methods that effectively improve students' reading comprehension, learning motivation, and self-efficacy. In addition, this research also provides information and advice for teachers and policy makers to choose appropriate learning methods to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.

PENERAPAN METODE MUHASABAH AN-NAFS DALAM PEMBENTUKAN AKHLAKUL KARIMAH SANTRI DI PONDOK PESANTREN AL-HIKMAH MUHAMMADIYAH SUKOHARJO TAHUN PELAJARAN 2022/2023

Contemporary phenomenon, if we pay attention together that the morals of students who have grown up or are teenagers are very concerning, there are many cases that we meet directly or are spread on social media regarding the moral behavior of teenagers today. Many of them do not reflect themselves as a Muslim who is moral and well behaved. One example of students who are brave with teachers, teachers who should be respected and valued but there are still students who don't listen to their teacher's advice and still behave poorly towards their teacher and their friends. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of the muhasabah an-nafs method in the formation of akhlakul karimah. In this study using a qualitative descriptive method, namely analyzing events and understanding existing phenomena then creating a comprehensive and complex picture. The results of this study show that the muhasabah an-nafs method in the formation of akhlakul karimah plays an important role because with this program students can self-introspect from what students have done. With muhasabah an-nafs students can also increase the good deeds that have been done can be increased in the future both in quality and quantity.

Paving the Way: Exploring Influential Factors that Shape Career Preferences among Students in Higher Education Institutions - Insights from Selected Arts and Science Colleges in Kerala

The aim of the research was to examine the elements that influence the career choices of university students. It is a selected study conducted across ten Kerala arts and science colleges ranked in the 2022 ranking of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). A sample of 375 students was selected from the selected higher education institutions. The results show that gender is significantly related to career choice. In addition, except for family factors like parents ‘education and family support, all other factors examined show weak, negative correlation with career choice. Family members’ profession and parental pressure prove to have significant negative association with the career path choice of students. Among the financial factors examined, future job opportunities, knowledge of high-paying jobs, job security, salary increases and perks, and opportunities for promotion and growth show a significant association with students' career choices. All of the personality factors examined correlate significantly with the career choice of the students. Among social factors, with the exception of teacher advice, college career guidance services, and alumni/friend success stories, all other variables studied show a significant association with career choice. Investigating on the factors that impact the career decisions of students, the results show that parental pressure, support from family members, future career opportunities, personal interest, social recognition related to a career, campus placements, influence of social media, and graduate/friend success stories have a significant impact on the students' choice of career. Among these predictor variables, the variables that have the greatest influence on career choices are parental pressure, future job opportunities, personal interest and campus placement. The study recommends universities to have an active careers advice center with a team consisting of a full-time placement officer and a student advisor. Recommendations for conducting psychometric tests to assess skills and conducting parent awareness programs to avoid parental pressure on students' career choices are recommended. Written notes and listening comprehension: A correlation study

Notetaking is a crucial aspect of learning in academic contexts, but as a relatively casual form of academic writing, it seldom receives pedagogic or research attention in the literature. Therefore, as more students study academic content through English as a second language (L2), research on student notetaking as a form of academic writing deserves attention. What students write in their notes and how they do so can play important roles in comprehension and learning. To address this gap, the present study examines 102 sets of notes and corresponding listening comprehension test scores to determine the relationships between four factors of quantity and quality in students’ hand-written notes; namely, notations, words, information units, and efficiency ratio. Results indicate that total notations and total words written in notes do not impact overall test scores, while information units and higher efficiency ratios positively correlate to test scores. The paper closes with pedagogic advice for teachers and students operating in L2 academic contexts with a focus on how best to conceptualise and write notes.

РОЗВИТОК МОРАЛЬНО-ЕТИЧНОЇ КУЛЬТУРИ МАЙБУТНІХ УЧИТЕЛІВ ІСТОРІЇ В ОСВІТНЬОМУ СЕРЕДОВИЩІ ЗАКЛАДУ ВИЩОЇ ОСВІТИ

In modern times, when the Ukrainian education system is undergoing reforms and integration into the European educational space, the important problem of preparing highly qualified teachers arises. To successfully implement the conceptual principles of the development of pedagogical education, it is necessary to activate the task of forming moral qualities in future teachers as examples for the imitation of moral behavior in the younger generation. Future teachers should become ethical authorities for their students and pupils, so it is important to ensure their readiness for systematic work on improving their own moral sphere. Solving these tasks requires activating the process of forming a moral and ethical culture in future teachers. Optimization of the educational process in the preparation of the younger generation, which should be worthy of the idea of building an open, humane democratic society, is impossible without solving the problem of improving the professional and moral-psychological training of the teacher for pedagogical activities. The necessity of improving the system of moral education in educational institutions, which plays an important role in improving the moral state of society, is undeniable. However, achieving this goal is only possible through the improvement of the process of formation of the moral culture of future teachers, who are potential representatives of the intellectual and managerial elite. Given that morality and ethics have real power that can change the situation to the same level as a concrete action, this becomes a necessary condition for success in improving the moral situation in society. The moral and ethical culture is of great importance for personal development as it promotes the formation of moral values and behavioral norms that are essential in the life of every individual. Special attention is given to the use of interactive teaching methods, which allow students to actively participate in the learning process and develop moral and ethical qualities. The article emphasizes the need to improve the qualifications of teachers in the issues of moral and ethical education of students. To achieve this goal, special seminars and trainings are necessary, which will help teachers better understand the problems and work more effectively with students. Overall, the article is dedicated to the pressing problem of forming moral and ethical culture of future history teachers, which is an important element of the professional preparation of educators. It contains important recommendations and practical advice for teachers and students who are preparing for future pedagogical activities.

Abstrac: Indonesia not only prioritizes IQ but EQ is also a priority in building a virtuous society. EQ can be achieved one of them with moral education whose domain touches on the morals of learners. One way in shaping the morals of learners is through disciplined moral education. Discipline moral education itself acts as the first gateway in the entry of moral education among learners because this discipline is a form of obedience as well as respect for the rules and advice of teachers in Madrasah. The fruit of disciplined education is the growing attitude of responsibility to students. The purpose of this study is 3, namely: (1) Knowing from disciplined education, (2) Knowing the role of disciplined education in improving attitudes of responsibility, (3) Knowing supporting actors and inhibiting disciplined moral education in improving attitudes of responsibility. This type of research uses case studies . This research is included in qualitative research with a background in Madrasah Aliyah Salafiyah Syafi’iyah Tebuireng Jombang. This study analyzed several things related to the Role of Disciplined Moral Education in Improving Student Attitudes of Responsibility. The data obtained from this study is the result of observations, interviews and documentation that are then analyzed and drawn conclusions. Based on the research, it was obtained that disciplined moral education uses teaching methods, transparency and supervision. Disciplined education plays a role in improving student responsibility attitudes. As for the supporting factors and obstacles there are internal and external.

How Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) influences young people’s learning

Children with ADHD face unique learning needs that are sometimes difficult to accommodate in the classroom. This article presents findings from a qualitative study of seven students with ADHD. Students wanted teachers to initiate classroom support subtly, be available for conversations about their learning, and value peer relationships as additional support. They wanted to be able to express their own learning preferences and have their teachers take them seriously and act on them. This article provides ideas and advice for teachers about developing a classroom climate that supports students with ADHD to learn.

Young people’s perspective of the inclusion of school-based resourcing for menstruation

Young people should not miss out on education because they are menstruating; a normal part of life. The importance of supporting students who menstruate is recognised internationally, with countries increasingly making period products freely available. This article reports on research that provides an insight into the perspectives of 10 secondary school students who experience menstruation about how school-based resourcing for menstrual management impacts on their wellbeing and overall development and offers advice for teachers that students would find helpful. Young people at secondary school who menstruate want: more education about menstruation; a greater understanding of their experiences by others; menstruation to be normalised; and supportive relationships and resources to enhance their wellbeing.

Meeting the Needs of Migrant Students

Over the past several months, public schools across the United States have experienced a surge of migrant students.1 This sudden influx of these students has caught many schools and teachers off-guard as they struggle to find and pull together available resources to meet the newcomers’ needs. Although the U.S. has a long history of receiving immigrants from all over the world, the educational response schools provide immigrant students remains a controversial topic. In this column, I would like to briefly introduce the historical context into which public school education is situated in addressing immigrant students. Then I’ll share some research-informed advice for teachers to consider as they receive migrant students into their classroom. While I do not intend to be overly theoretical, I do hope that these research-informed ideas will inspire and intrigue teachers to learn from the migrant students and create a welcoming environment that better meets the needs of migrant students.

Career Confidential: Teacher told to accept feedback more gracefully

In the October 2022 Career Confidential, Phyllis Fagell has advice for teachers who are unhappy about the feedback they receive from their principals. An ESOL teacher has trouble accepting critical feedback from a principal who hasn’t taught for more than a decade and has no experience with English learners. Another teacher went through an entire school year without receiving feedback from her principal. She doesn’t want to appear needy, but she’d like to get some ideas for how to improve.
