Analysis of the Implementation of AI in Education Impact on Personalized Language Learning

The education field is now stepping into an innovative era under the advancement of AI technologies, and AI-empowered tools bring new opportunities for education to overcome the obstacles that remain in traditional education mode. Educators have highlighted the significance of promoting personalized learning in language learning to address the differences in sociocultural factors, level of knowledge, and individual identity. AI technologies have been employed in second language (L2) learning for decades, but it is worth discussing whether the implementation of AI-empowered tools can facilitate personalized language learning (PLL) among L2 learners. This paper analyzes recent practices of using AI-empowered applications in L2 learning and explores the practicability of using AI to achieve PLL. Based on the analysis, current practices can be categorized into implementation in autonomous learning and in-class learning, and both types have limitations in terms of lacking sociocultural considerations and adoption of the latest technologies. Thus, it is critical to enhance collaboration with the AI field to increase AI readiness and familiarity so that the educational field can keep up with the path of AI development and refresh the educational field with new opportunities and innovations.

Perceptions and challenges of blockchain adoption in tourism industry: a study on trust, privacy and security

Purpose This study aims to investigate the perceptions of service providers in the travel and hospitality industry toward the adoption of blockchain technology (BCT), focusing on its impact on consumer experiences and expectations, especially in terms of trustworthiness and the management of privacy and security concerns. Design/methodology/approach The research used a quantitative methodology, collecting data from 135 industry practitioners across five tourism sectors (lodging, connected industries, entertainment, FandB, transportation) in Europe. This approach aimed to understand the diverse perspectives on the benefits and challenges of implementing BCT in their opera Findings The results indicate mixed perceptions regarding blockchain adoption. While there are positive views on BCT’s potential to enhance customer experience and service quality, there are significant concerns about its impact on trust and security. A consensus exists between customer and provider perspectives on BCT’s trustworthiness, but significant differences were observed in views on privacy and security enhancement. Originality/value This research contributes to the existing literature by providing insights into the service providers’ and customers’ perspectives on BCT within the travel and hospitality industry. It underscores the complexities of adopting new technologies and calls for more in-depth studies to address the identified concerns, thereby offering a novel viewpoint on the adoption of distributed ledger technologies in enhancing customer experience and service delivery.

DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE MEDICAL DEVICES IN NEONATOLOGY: LITERATURE REVIEW

The aim of this study is to review the development of medical devices in neonatology, exploring technological advances, identifying innovations and challenges, and proposing recommendations for future research. The methodology involved a narrative review of the literature, searching databases such as PubMed, EBSCO, Cochrane, and IEEE Xplore, focusing on studies from the last ten years on medical devices for neonatology. The results highlight that technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning have improved the monitoring and prognosis of neonatal conditions, allowing for more precise and personalized interventions. 3D printing emerges as a promising tool for creating personalized medical devices, meeting the specific needs of each patient. Wearable devices for continuous monitoring of vital signs and advanced enteral and parenteral feeding devices have demonstrated a positive impact on neonatal health. Mechanical ventilators with gentler and smarter modes have reduced serious complications, and catheters with antimicrobial coatings have helped to reduce the incidence of neonatal sepsis. The conclusions indicate that technological innovations are fundamental to improving neonatal care. The integration of artificial intelligence, 3D printing and continuous monitoring has the potential to transform neonatology, improving clinical outcomes and the quality of life of newborns. However, challenges such as the variability of neonatal pathologies, cost and accessibility of devices and the need for adequate training of health professionals need to be addressed. Investment in continuous research, clinical validation and interdisciplinary training is recommended to ensure the effective adoption of these innovative technologies in daily clinical practices.

Analysis of the Use of IoT in Attendance Management and Productivity Monitoring on Employee Performance and Operational Efficiency in Central Java Manufacturing Industry

This study investigates the impact of Internet of Things (IoT) usage in attendance management and productivity monitoring on employee performance and operational efficiency in the manufacturing industry of Central Java. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 270 respondents and analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS 3). The results indicate that IoT-driven systems in both attendance management and productivity monitoring have a significant positive effect on employee performance and operational efficiency. Specifically, IoT-enabled attendance management improves workforce accountability and discipline, while productivity monitoring enhances real-time feedback and workflow optimization. These findings highlight the critical role of IoT technology in transforming workforce and operational management in manufacturing, contributing to improved performance and efficiency. The study provides valuable insights for decision-makers in the manufacturing industry regarding the adoption of IoT technologies to enhance competitiveness and operational outcomes.

Digitized Seedbed Soil Quality Assessment from Worn and Edge Hardened Cultivator Sweeps.

Tillage tools for seedbed soil management are often subjected to low stress abrasion wear, which could negatively affect seedbed quality and crop productivity. Limited studies exist that quantify the effects of worn tillage tools on seedbed quality and crop yield. This research investigated the influence of tillage tool wear on seedbed preparation by evaluating the effect of cultivator sweep wear on soil tilth utilizing a light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor. The framework consists of a seedbed tillage field experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) experiment in six replicates of two-tillage treatments (new and worn cultivator sweeps). After seedbed tillage, loosely tilled soil aggregates were removed to expose the seedbed soil profile, and then seedbed roughness statistical measures were estimated from LiDAR-scanned seedbed soil surface. Three statistical analyses (Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS), and Earth Mover's Distance (EMD)) were compared to quantitatively evaluate the soil roughness estimated from the LiDAR seedbed surface data. Seedbed prepared by new and worn cultivator sweeps showed significant differences (p < 0.05) in soil roughness variables of standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and kurtosis. Data analysis from the ANOVA and KS methods revealed that LiDAR-extracted soil roughness patterns were statistically influenced by tillage treatment. EMD analysis detected noticeable disparities between the tillage treatments and new versus worn cultivator sweeps. This study concludes that tillage tool wear substantively affects seedbed quality, as evidenced by LiDAR soil profile estimated attributes of soil roughness and three statistical methods (ANOVA, KS, and EMD). Our study supports the adoption of LiDAR technology for seedbed management, highlighting its applicability to evaluate seedbed quality that accounts for the wear life cycle of cultivator sweeps.

The platformisation of party politics?

Political parties have gone digital. Political scientists in countries around the world have diagnosed the rise of the digital party and traced parties’ adoption of digital technology. Existing attempts to understand parties’ digital practices have focused on the adoption of different tools, with scholars empirically studying and theorizing how and why digital technology is used. What has received less attention is the technical architecture and origins of these tools, questions that have been more directly examined by political communication scholarship. In this paper we entwine insights from these two disciplines, interrogating the idea of ‘platformization’ in the context of political technology. Presenting a unique, longitudinal dataset that captures the technological development of political party websites in 66 parties in 16 countries, we provide unprecedented insight into the evolution of party websites and show evidence of increasing platform dependency. Our findings have important implications for our understanding of parties’ relationship with technology, showing how technological developments and monopolies can lead to increasingly homogenized practice internationally.

The Impacts of Cyberattack on SMEs in the USA and Way to Accelerate Cybersecurity

We are at the 4th industrial revolution called industry 4.0. The world is turning from digitalization to automation. Technological advancement and adoption and utilization of changing pattern of technology is gaining the gear at all social, political, diplomatic, economic and commercial spheres including SMEs. Technological advancement is bringing speed, innovation and sophistication of products and services in SMEs in one hand and on the other hand, cyber hacking and various and changing pattern of cybercrimes are hampering the growth and development. The aim of the study is to analysis the impacts of cyberattacks on SME’s productivity, growth and development in USA and potential way to accelerate the cyber security in the area. The study is mainly based on secondary sources of data including journals, research publications, scholarly articles, thesis papers etc. The finding of the study revealed that Banking and finance, healthcare, small manufacturing firms, retailers and E-commerce, public transport and infrastructure with less than 500 employees are the most vulnerable sectors for the Cyber-attack in the USA. The most commonly practiced cyberattacks are Phishing attacks, Ransomware, Malware, DDoS attacks, MitM etc. The Study suggests a number of cyber security measures including employee awareness and training program, creation of security policy and practice, know how to distinguish between fake antivirus offer and real notification and protect OT-IT system to prevent the damage.

E-learning and sustainability of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa: a review and synthesis

Purpose This study aims to examine the state of literature on the role of e-learning in the sustainability of higher education institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the goal of identifying explored thematic areas, finding out the deficiencies in extant literature and recommending areas of future research work. Design/methodology/approach The research used a systematic literature review, examining articles published between 2012 and 2022. In total, 52 publications were identified and subjected to analysis. Findings The findings reveal that few studies have explored the relationship between e-learning and the sustainability of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa, with larger economies in the region dominating research output. In addition, traditional technology adoption and social learning theories dominate the theoretical frameworks in this area. Moreover, the authors observed limited adaptation of these theories to local contexts, leading to outcomes with limited contextual details or lack of the same. Despite its potential, e-learning has yet to be fully embraced as a strategic tool for the sustainability of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa. Originality/value Although various systematic literature reviews exist in the field of sustainability in higher education, there seem to be no reviews specifically focused on e-learning within the context of Sub-Saharan Africa. This review sheds some light on potential future research paths regarding the theory, content and context of e-learning for the sustainability of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa, and by extension, in developing countries worldwide.

Exploring Social Support Strategies and Socio-Cultural Factors Influencing Social Isolation and Loneliness: The Role of Digital Literacy.

Social isolation (SI) and loneliness (L) are the long-standing critical concerns impacting the mental well-being of older adults. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing vulnerabilities, leading to a notable rise in perceived social isolation (PSI) and its associated risks among an aging population. Reportedly, nearly 35% of older Americans felt lonely before the pandemic, with the pandemic further intensifying these feelings. This commentary examines the multifaceted factors contributing to PSI, including demographic and socio-economic characteristics. We outline the health risks associated with PSI, including cardiovascular diseases and mental health conditions. This commentary addresses the potential of information and communication technology (ICT) to alleviate loneliness, despite significant barriers such as the digital divide and technological anxiety among older adults. This commentary advocates targeted digital literacy interventions and theoretical frameworks to enhance technology adoption and mitigate PSI, ultimately aiming to improve health outcomes and quality of life for the aging population.

Navigating Digital Transformation in the UAE: Benefits, Challenges, and Future Directions in the Public Sector

Digital transformation is a process in which the latest technologies are used in various business fields to keep pace with continuous changes. It involves the strategic and profound integration of digital technologies into an organization’s core business operations, processes, and models. In this study, a quantitative approach was used to study the impact of DT adoption on public sector transformational change projects in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The diffusion of innovation theory (DIT) and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model (UTAUT) were used in the factor analysis. This study highlights that digital transformation initiatives in the UAE have benefited from a strategic alignment with government initiatives, such as AI and blockchain strategies. However, public sector organizations face challenges, such as the high costs of technology adoption and cybersecurity risks during integration with legacy systems. The significance of social influence, including elements like use behavior and behavioral intention, was identified as essential for digital transformation, suggesting the importance of technology in job performance. Similarly, digital transformation projects improve IT competence and reduce resistance to change among leaders and individuals. The findings underscore the importance of investing in infrastructure and continuous IT training to sustain digital transformation. More studies are required across specific sectors to further explore the impact and scalability of DT initiatives in the UAE public sector.

Corruption impedes good governance in Somalia’s public sector

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the level of corruption in Somalia and the causes that lead to corruption that in turn hampers good governance. Design/methodology/approach The paper relies on the data collected from Somali’s public institutions, international actors, newspaper articles and peer-reviewed literature. The degree of corruption is assessed with the Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International and the Control of Corruption provided by the World Bank. Findings The finding shows that the level of corruption in Somalia is high and complex because of the following reasons: weak governance and poverty, culture and tradition which include favoritism based on clan membership, lack of accountability mechanism and absence political will. Measures undertaken for anti-corruption, for instance, the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Commission and legislation for its support face barriers and challenges that include political influence, lack of capacities among the undertaking institution and lack of participation by the public. Originality/value This research adds value to the knowledge of corruption in Somalia by identifying the concrete socio-political antecedents for corruption and the problems of fighting it. This paper further presents the following detailed strategies to address corruption: enhancing the operational and financial integrity of the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission; restructuring the civil service and merging it into a merit-based system; enhancing Public Financial Management (PFM) reforms; independence of the judiciary; and sustaining development in digital technology adoption in governance and procurement.

Green IT and BYOD: driving sustainability, job performance, and well-being in remote work

Purpose This study aims to explore the impact of bring your own device (BYOD) practices on teleworkers’ job performance, work–life conflict and their implications for environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on Green IT in the post-pandemic remote work context. Drawing on the job demands–resources (JD-R) model, it examines the relationships between private technology adoption, job demands, job resources, job performance and work–life conflict, while also assessing how BYOD impacts environmental outcomes such as electronic waste reduction and carbon emissions. Design/methodology/approach The study used confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS version 22 to evaluate seven hypotheses among 424 full-time teleworkers from various occupational sectors in Mauritius, a developing country. Findings SEM results confirm that BYOD enhances job performance and work–life conflict through increased job autonomy, workload and work pressure. BYOD and teleworking also contribute to Green IT and environmental sustainability by reducing energy consumption and electronic waste, indirectly supporting broader sustainability goals through reduced corporate device demand and lower commuting-related emissions. Practical implications Organisations should leverage BYOD policies to advance Green IT practices and improve work performance in remote settings, focusing on balancing job demands with resources like work autonomy to enhance productivity and well-being. Originality/value The findings strongly support the JD-R model in the context of remote work and BYOD, particularly in developing economies with limited infrastructure, offering insights for policies that enhance both employee well-being, Green IT and environmental sustainability.

Transforming Challenges Into Opportunities: The Role Of Accounting Systems And Technology In MSME Performance Post-COVID-19, Enhanced By Market Innovation

This research explores the impact of technology adoption on the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the post-COVID-19 landscape, with a particular focus on the moderating role of market innovation. Utilizing a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach, data was collected from MSMEs to evaluate the relationships among technology adoption, market innovation, and business performance. The findings reveal that technology adoption has a significant positive effect on MSME performance, contributing to operational efficiency and improved customer engagement. However, contrary to expectations, market innovation does not significantly moderate this relationship. This suggests that the immediate benefits of technology adoption are sufficient to drive performance improvements without the need for market innovation to enhance these effects. The research highlights the importance for MSMEs to prioritize technology adoption as a strategy for resilience and growth in the wake of the pandemic, while market innovation can be pursued as a complementary initiative for long-term competitiveness. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to support the recovery and development of MSMEs in Indonesia.

Financial Determinants of Adoption of Agricultural Technologies in Irish Potato Production in Ol Kalou Sub County, Kenya: Application of Multinomial Logistic Regression

Irish potato is a significant source of food and income for many households worldwide. The demand for the crop has steadily increased around the globe. Kenyan Irish potato farmers have the potential to produce about 30 tonnes per Ha. However, small-scale Irish farmers in the country realize low output ranging from 4-8 tonnes per Ha due to limited uptake of agricultural technologies. This study aimed to analyze the financial factors influencing the uptake of agricultural technologies in Irish potato production in Ol Kalou Sub County. The agricultural technologies under investigation were chemical fertilizer, certified seeds, fungicides, and farm machinery. Production and innovation diffusion theories guided the study. Descriptive cross-sectional research design was used to obtain data from a study population of 21,942 smallholder Irish potato farmers in Ol Kalou Sub County. A multiple-stage sampling technique was employed to give a sample size of 385 respondents small scale Irish potato farmers, where data was collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using multinomial logistic regression through SPSS version 28 and STATA version 17. The model indicated that off-farm income, access to credit, and production risk had a positive and significant influence on adopting agricultural technologies. Conversely, production cost had a negative and significant influence on the adoption of agricultural technologies, while the availability of subsidies had no significant influence. The Marginal effect analysis showed that the availability of off-farm income increased adoption by 22.00%, the increase in credit increased adoption by 2.00%, the availability of mitigation measures of production risk increased adoption by 19.00%, while the increase in production cost decreased adoption by 7.00%. The study concluded that off-farm income, credit facilities, production risk and cost of production influence the adoption of agricultural technologies. The study recommended that the government should develop policy regulations such as diversification of income, grants that reduce production costs, credit incentives, and crop insurance.

The digital transformation is profoundly changing organizations and creating new comparative advantages but also necessitating new approaches to management and organizational strategy. The majority of research on business’ digital transformation focuses on technological adoption, innovation, value creation and the dynamic capabilities of organizations. However, the question of why different organizations approach the digital transformation in various ways remains less explored. This article examines the possibilities of inferring various factors that have an impact on the adoption of digital technologies in order to improve the understanding of organizations' digital transformation strategies. Factors such as size, internationalization, research and development (R&amp;D) expenses, foreign direct investment (FDI), turnover, wages and salaries have an expected impact on the adoption of new technologies in an organization and its digital transformation. This is supported by organizational theories such as the resource-based view (RBV), the knowledge-based view (KBV) and the technology-organization-environment (TOE) frameworks. Through examples from the scientific literature, a summary is provided on how the study of the interrelationships between these factors and organizations’ digital transformation can contribute to a better understanding of the different strategies in this field.

Understanding the key driver of e-government services continuance usage intention: An integrated model of Expectation Confirmation Model and Technology Acceptance Model

Continuous usage is crucial for ensuring the longevity of technological advancements. The success of e-government is contingent upon its ongoing use, rather than its initial acceptance. Nevertheless, there has been a dearth of scholarly research on the ongoing use of e-government services. The objective of this study was to identify the primary factors that influences the continued use of e-government services in Indonesia. The research model was created by integrating both Expectation Confirmation Model and Technology Acceptance Model, two theories that are frequently employed in the adoption of technology. The data was obtained by administering an online survey to 217 Indonesian citizens who had previously utilized the Online Citizen Aspiration and Complaints Service (LAPOR) e-Government services. The results indicate that perceived ease of use had a substantial impact on citizen satisfaction and perceived usefulness. In contrast to previous research conducted in the context of e-Government, it was found that perceived usefulness did not have a significant correlation with the intention to continue using the system. The most significant predictor of continued intention to use was citizen satisfaction. Surprisingly, satisfaction was more significantly influenced by perceived ease of use than perceived usefulness. The implications of these findings are elaborated upon.

Cybersecurity Maintenance in the Automotive Industry Challenges and Solutions: A Technology Adoption Approach

Numerous attempts have been made to create a secure system that meets the criteria and requirements of the automotive vehicle development life cycle. However, a critical gap exists in the secure development lifecycle, particularly concerning the development and maintenance of software after the vehicle has been sold by the manufacturer. This step is often overlooked by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), especially after the expiration of the vehicle warranty period, given the cost that it will require to update and test the software in their vehicles. This paper addresses the issues that affect current and future vehicle cybersecurity, during the maintenance of cybersecurity, and how the neglect of it could end up creating hazards for the vehicle owner or other road users. To accomplish this, we will employ the technology adoption model (TAM) as a theoretical framework, which is used to understand and predict how organizations adopt technology. Thus, through qualitative and quantitative research, including text mining, we identify the challenges in the adoption and diffusion of cybersecurity maintenance in the automotive sector and its supply chain. In addition, we propose possible solutions on how to maintain a level of security that will benefit road users, OEMs and regulators, covering the cybersecurity needs for the vehicle’s usable life, taking into account the vehicle’s heterogeneity of components and technology, connectivity, environmental impact and cost of production and maintenance of a vehicle.

The Future of Work: A Human-centric Approach to AI, Robotics, and Cloud Computing

This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and cloud computing on the future of work, focusing on adoption trends, productivity gains, and ethical challenges. Using a mixed-method approach, data were sourced from the OECD AI Policy Observatory, Pew Research Center, and European Union Open Data Portal. Quantitative analysis included K-Means clustering of industries based on technology adoption, with high adopters like North America and Europe leading in cloud computing (65.87%), and Africa showing stronger AI adoption (63.02%). The analysis also highlighted a 14.5% productivity increase in manufacturing, but a 19.3% risk of job displacement. Sentiment analysis revealed that 75% of public sentiment on algorithmic bias was negative, correlating strongly (0.74) with reported violations. The study affirms the need for improved AI governance and stronger GDPR compliance to address ethical challenges, while prioritizing human-centric strategies that ensure inclusive and sustainable outcomes for the workforce.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Adoption Intensity on Corporate Sustainability Performance: The Moderated Mediation Effect of Organizational Change

With the rapid development of the economy and society, enterprises are increasingly prioritizing environmental and social sustainability alongside economic benefits. As a critical driver of technological innovation, the effective application of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance corporate sustainability performance has garnered considerable attention from both academia and industry. This study explores the impact of AI adoption intensity on corporate sustainability performance, with a particular focus on the mediating role of organizational change and its moderated mediation effect. Employing an empirical analysis approach, this study collected 451 employee survey responses from manufacturing enterprises. The results indicate that AI adoption intensity substantially enhances corporate sustainability performance, reflected in comprehensive improvements in economic, environmental, and social benefits. Furthermore, organizational change serves as a crucial mediator between AI adoption and sustainability performance, with this mediation effect moderated by internal and external environmental factors. The study finds that enterprises with high digital capabilities and innovative cultures are more effective in leveraging AI to enhance sustainability performance. This suggests that in promoting AI applications, enterprises should not only focus on technology adoption but also emphasize internal organizational change and the development of digital capabilities to fully achieve sustainability goals. Through empirical analysis, this study provides an in-depth understanding of the application paths and mechanisms of AI in corporate sustainability, offering a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for corporate managers in strategy and policymaking.

Drones and Technopreneurship in Malaysia: Unlocking the Economic Potential of Drones in Built Environment Development

Drones, with diverse technological capabilities, are poised to revolutionise various traditional tasks, particularly in-built environment development while driving economic growth, innovation, and job creation. Within the Malaysian context, drones have evolved beyond recreational use to become sophisticated unmanned aerial vehicles with untapped business potential. Against this backdrop, this paper explores a comprehensive review of drone development in Malaysia. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the review includes selected publication data from academic journals and online media published between 2018 and 2023, complemented with insights gathered from expert interviews. Aiming to bridge the discursive gap surrounding emerging drone technologies, the review focuses on identifying patterns and trends in recent Malaysian publications on drone applications, as well as understanding current issues related to its technology adoption. The thematic findings reveal a notable surge in interest in drone-related publications and draw clear connections between drone applications and diverse industrial sectors over the past six years. The paper emphasises critical issues such as community acceptance, the transforming landscape of business, diverse industry applications of drone technology, and government strategies for advancing drone technology. As a preliminary study, this paper establishes the foundation for leveraging the benefits of drone technology within the broader context of the built environment, social, and economic landscape. By shedding light on the evolving drone ecosystem in Malaysia, the paper contributes to fostering informed discussions and strategic initiatives in the integration and advancement of drone technologies. Thus, it offers valuable insights for professionals, economists, engineers, policymakers, and researchers alike.
