Using Student Reflections to Develop Deep Teaching

National studies continue to indicate that the graduating STEM student body is not representative of the diversity of the U.S. population. In addition to, or in the absence of, institutional change, instructors must learn how to implement equity-focused pedagogical changes in order to better support their students. This article describes my experience introducing a weekly reflection protocol in a proof-based mathematics course with the dual goals of promoting metacognition and opening an additional communication channel with my students. Towards these goals, this intervention was largely successful and I provide examples of how I was able to use what I learned from my students to better support them throughout the semester. Drawing on the “Deep Teaching Model” for faculty development, I share how this experience continues to be a critical component of my evolving teaching practice. Though this intervention on its own may not solve the representation and equity problems in our field, the self-awareness I developed through this experience has positioned me as a more effective instructor, mentor, and advocate.

INFLUENCE MARKETING AS AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR ATTRACTING CONSUMERS

The purpose of the article is to justify the importance of the company’s implementation of the partner program as an influencer marketing tool aimed at improving the company’s marketing communication system. The conducted analysis showed that the current state of companies’ marketing communications requires greater use of influencer marketing as an effective tool for influencing consumer purchase decisions, namely through the implementation of partnership programs that contribute to the formation of consumer trust in a specific brand, their retention and the creation of long-term relationships with them. On the basis of the conducted research devoted to the use of influencer marketing by the domestic drogerie chain “EVA”, the article justifies that the key to a successful and effective affiliate program is not only the organization of this process, but also the correct selection of bloggers. In the article a list of criteria that they must meet is represented. These criteria will help “EVA” to select bloggers for effective cooperation and positive influence on the brand. In the article 7 steps of implementation of the affiliate program for influencers from “EVA” are proposed. The introduction of an affiliate program will contribute an effective communication with bloggers and allow to create a base of influencers who can independently promote “EVA” without additional agreements. That is, it optimizes the working process for two company divisions: the marketing promotion of the Internet store “EVA”, and the influencer direction. In addition, the implementation of the program will allow to optimize the budget, since the funds will be planned as an investment in long-term partnership relations that are beneficial to both parties. This will help to provide continuous exposure for “EVA” and its online store, so the company will get more exposure to the audience for a relatively small cost. Using a specific example in the article, it is justified that the company can afford to implement a partner program not just as an ordinary one with commissions, but as affiliate program in the format of building a bloggers community. When implementing the program, the involved bloggers will be the face of the brand as well as additional marketing channel of communication through which “EVA” new marketing communications can be transmitted. Moreover, since influencers will be brand representatives, they will also build the positioning of the company for the audience, contribute the increase of loyalty, which will positively affect the further development of the company. In further research, it will be appropriate to consider the effectiveness of the implementation of partner programs and the spread of their use in other industries.

The Development and Testing of a Point-of-Sale E-Cigarette Health Communication Campaign

ABSTRACT Adolescents and young adults continue to use e-cigarettes, and communication campaigns are needed to decrease use among these populations. We developed and tested a point-of-sale communication campaign focused on e-cigarette chemical exposure. We developed messages based on formative research and tested them (versus text-only messages) in a nationally-representative online survey among adolescents and young adults (16–25) (Phase 1). Based on survey findings, we selected a message focused on nicotine and brain development for the point-of-sale trial (Phase 2). We then conducted a cluster-randomized trial at six gas stations with convenience stores, randomly assigned to the intervention (messages displayed) or no message control condition. We conducted intercept surveys with repeated cross-sectional samples of 50 participants (ages 16–25) per store, at baseline and a four-week follow-up. Phase 1 included 1,636 participants in the online study. Intervention messages were rated as more attention grabbing than plain text messages (p < .05), though were rated similarly on other outcomes. Exposure to intervention messages resulted in larger changes from pre- to posttest for beliefs about addiction and relative harms versus cigarettes (p < .05). Phase 2 included 586 participants in the point-of-sale study. Real-world campaign exposure was low (31.8%), and no differences were found between conditions. E-cigarette prevention messages focused on nicotine’s impact on brain development show promise. However, garnering attention for communication campaigns in saturated point-of-sale environments, often dominated by tobacco advertising, is challenging. Future efforts should utilize additional communication channels to directly target adolescents and young adults.

The role of firm-level CSR governance characteristics as a driver of comprehensive CSR reporting – the moderating role of profitability

PurposeThis study aims to examine the impact of firm-level corporate social responsibility (CSR) governance characteristics on the extent, quality and comprehensiveness of CSR reporting of Pakistani listed enterprises.Design/methodology/approachThis study used content analysis of corporate annual reports and stand-alone CSR reports available on corporate websites in 2021 to identify CSR-related governance features and to calculate CSR reporting scores. Multivariate regression is used to test relationships. In addition, the analysis tested the moderating role of profitability in these relationships.FindingsFirm-level CSR governance characteristics contribute to the extent, quality and comprehensiveness of CSR reporting in a developing country. Further, results confirm that profitability moderates the relationship between CSR governance and the extent and comprehensiveness of CSR reporting.Research limitations/implicationsThis study employed cross-sectional data and focused on a single developing country. Future studies might include a cross-national sample and longitudinal data to demonstrate the broader relevance of these findings. The outcomes of this study are restricted to CSR disclosures based on CSR reports and annual reports. Future research may examine additional corporate communication channels, such as websites and social media platforms.Practical implicationsThis research validates the important role of CSR governance mechanisms as a driver of comprehensive CSR reporting. Business leaders and policymakers can facilitate improved corporate reporting by requiring companies to implement CSR-related governance mechanisms.Originality/valueThis is the first study to test the influence of firm-level CSR governance mechanisms in promoting the quantity, quality and comprehensiveness of CSR reporting in a developing country.

IC-GAN: An Improved Conditional Generative Adversarial Network for RGB-to-IR image translation with applications to forest fire monitoring

This paper introduces a novel Deep Learning (DL) architecture for inferring temperature information from aerial true-color RGB images by transforming them into Infrared Radiation (IR) domain. This work is motivated by a few facts. First, off-the-shelf contemporary drones are typically equipped only with regular cameras. Second, IR heat-mapping cameras are costly and heavy for payload-limited drones. Third, additional communication channels and power supply would be needed when including IR cameras. Finally, IR cameras provide lower resolution and shorter distance ranges than RGB cameras. Therefore, learning-based translation of aerial IR recordings to RGB images can be extremely useful not only for new tests but also for offline processing of the currently available forest fire datasets with RGB images. We offer an Improved Conditional-Generative Adversarial Network (IC-GAN), where matched IR images are used as a condition to guide the translation process by the generator. The U-Net-based generator is concatenated with a mapper module to transform the output into a stack of diverse color spaces with learnable parameters. To avoid the unnecessary penalization of pixel-level disparities and achieve structural similarity, we include clustering alignment to the loss function. The proposed framework is compared against several state-of-the-art methods, including U-Net, Efficient U-Net, GAN, and Conditional-GAN from both subjective (human perception) and objective evaluation perspectives. The results support our method’s efficacy, demonstrating a significant improvement of around 6% in PSNR, 15% in UQI, 9% in SSIM, and 23% in IoU metrics.

In the article, the authors give a critical assessment of the procedure for conducting an interrogation using video conferencing systems at the preliminary investigation. The results of the study revealed a gap in the law in de-fining situations in which it is appropriate to conduct interrogation using videoconferencing. The author’s pro-posals have been made to solve this problem by the investigators. The authors expressed the idea that it is necessary for the investigator to have an additional communication channel with persons who ensure the op-eration of video conferencing systems, and who take away a liability subscription and other materials from the interrogated person at his location. The methods of establishing remote empathy with the interrogated person are proposed by analogy with the methods of involving students in the distance learning format. The main tacti-cal techniques of emotional impact on the interrogated person and the effectiveness of their application by the investigator along with the use of videoconferencing systems are considered.

Fully integrating probabilistic flood forecasts into the decision-making process across southern Quebec, Canada: some factors to consider

Flood forecasts can enable decision-makers to plan for mitigation measures, ensure the safety of people and reduce damages to private and public property. However, while flood forecasting systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated, those technical improvements do not always translate into a reduction of damages. In particular, ensemble and probabilistic streamflow forecasts provide more information regarding the uncertainty, but such forecasts are also more difficult to interpret. The connection between streamflow, water depth and flood extent is also not straightforward, as this connection requires extensive previous experience with a given river reach. Streamflow forecasts can be transformed in predictive flood maps through a hydraulic model, and those maps might have a more intuitive interpretation. However, if the system is designed to also represent the uncertainty of both water depth and extent, the interpretation becomes considerably more complex. Within this context of continuous improvement of flood forecasting systems, a broad consultation (90 participants) of forecast users was conducted across southern Quebec, Canada, with the aim of understanding their perception of flood forecasts and how they use those forecasts for decision-making. Participants responses emphasize the importance of contextualizing the forecasts according to potential consequences, providing an accurate representation of the time evolution of flood events, and facilitating the communication between forecasters and decision-makers. Following this, our main recommendation is to organize workshops to provide training for decision-makers on how to interpret hydrological forecasts correctly. Another recommendation is to implement additional communication channels between forecasters and end-users.

Measures to Increase Job Satisfaction of Oncologists at Outpatient Cancer Centers

Introduction: Job satisfaction of oncologists at outpatient cancer centers is an important factor that determines not only personal well-being of a doctor, but also the effectiveness of provision, quality and availability of primary specialized oncological care. Objectives: To assess the risk of emotional burnout and to determine the level of job satisfaction of oncologists working in outpatient departments in order to propose actions to reduce the risk of job burnout and to elaborate measures promoting job satisfaction. Materials and methods: In June–August 2022, as part of quantitative sociological surveys, 71 oncologists of Outpatient Cancer Centers located in Moscow and the Moscow and Ivanovo Regions were interviewed to assess their job satisfaction using V.A. Rozanova’s questionnaire. In addition, we conducted a qualitative sociological study consisting of six in-depth interviews with healthcare experts, including heads of federal and regional cancer clinics. Results: We established that 21.1 % of the respondents were not satisfied with their job. Male specialists and surgeons demonstrated significantly lower job satisfaction than their colleagues. The main reasons for such dissatisfaction were the amount and fairness of wages, long working hours, disunity of actions between employees when performing collective tasks, and the leadership style of the chief. As measures to optimize the performance, the respondents emphasized better equipment of departments, impartial record of achievements of each employee for fair incentive pays, clear distribution of duties and responsibilities within implementation of collective project tasks, creation of opportunities for paid extra work, and organization of regular meals at the expense of the employer. Conclusions: The main ways to increase job satisfaction of oncologists at outpatient cancer centers can be optimization of the incentive system that takes into account individual performance indicators, effective organization of the workflow in departments and their sufficient equipment, elaboration of personal development plans, organization of additional formal internal communication channels, an increase in the level of knowledge, skills and abilities of chief medical officers in the field of human resource management, and expansion of employee benefits based on their preferences.

Expert assessment and consumer preferences for the implementation of educational tourism in the learning system of universities students: the experience of Kazakhstan

Our research is devoted to the implementation of educational tourism in the education system of higher education students, identifying the prospects for its development based on expert and consumer surveys. The article proposes the author’s definition of educational tourism, reveals its essence and component composition, as well as possible positive effects from its implementation; the connection between the educational and tourist components is emphasized, the primary and secondary nature of which is determined by motivational factors. The key directions for the development of educational tourism are identified through the study of current works presented in the scientometric databases WoS and Scopus. We conducted a study of the main participants in the educational tourism market in Kazakhstan, in particular, we analyzed the indicators of academic mobility of students and employees of scientific and educational institutions; international activities of universities in countries; as well as the number of students, teaching staff in organizations of technical and professional, higher and postgraduate education. The examples of educational tours provided by travel agencies in Kazakhstan are shown. Based on expert surveys and polls, the features of consumer demand and supply in the field of educational tourism were identified, as well as the main communication channels for promoting this product on the market; main promising directions for the development of educational tourism; the degree of awareness of students of higher educational institutions about the essence and specifics of educational tourism; the need to include educational tourism in the educational trajectory of university students. In terms of the characteristics of consumption and provision of services in the field of educational tourism, the authors identified: seasonality and frequency of consumers’ requests to obtain information, form and arrange an educational tour; key motivational factors that guide consumers when choosing an educational tour; average duration and geographic focus of organized educational tours; problems that travel companies face when designing and organizing such tours. In terms of the selection of information and communication tools used to promote educational tours, the main and additional communication channels for promoting educational tours have been identified. In terms of identifying the main promising directions for the development of educational tourism, the average expert assessment of the level of development of outbound and inbound educational tourism was determined. Experts proposed the main promising directions for the development of educational tourism in Kazakhstan, including studying abroad, participation in educational events, learning foreign languages and ecological tours with a scientific focus; the need to include educational tourism in the educational process of university students is emphasized.

Accumulation of network redundancy marks the early stage of Alzheimer's disease.

Brain wiring redundancy counteracts aging-related cognitive decline by reserving additional communication channels as a neuroprotective mechanism. Such a mechanism plays a potentially important role in maintaining cognitive function during the early stages of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is characterized by severe cognitive decline and involves a long prodromal stage of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Since MCI subjects are at high risk of converting to AD, identifying MCI individuals is essential for early intervention. To delineate the redundancy profile during AD progression and enable better MCI diagnosis, we define a metric that reflects redundant disjoint connections between brain regions and extract redundancy features in three high-order brain networks-medial frontal, frontoparietal, and default mode networks-based on dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) captured by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). We show that redundancy increases significantly from normal control (NC) to MCI individuals and decreases slightly from MCI to AD individuals. We further demonstrate that statistical features of redundancy are highly discriminative and yield state-of-the-art accuracy of up to 96.8 ± 1.0% in support vector machine (SVM) classification between NC and MCI individuals. This study provides evidence supporting the notion that redundancy serves as a crucial neuroprotective mechanism in MCI.

Trust in Digital Voice Assistants: A Fundamental Determinant for Companies’ and Customers’ Engagement in Voice Commerce

Voice shopping, i.e., shopping via conversational interactions with digital voice assistants, is currently on the rise but still in its infancy in Germany. In the context of voice commerce, companies may utilize digital voice assistants as an additional communication and distribution channel. However, users’ entry into voice shopping is crucially determined by their adoption of digital voice assistants. In this context, privacy concerns are the primary challenge for the dissemination and acceptance of digital voice assistants impeding the advancement of voice shopping. Similar to the past emergence of electronic commerce, trust seems to be the ultimate and decisive factor for the willingness to use digital voice assistants and engage in voice-based interactions and transactions. We set up a model by combining the typology of trust with the established technology acceptance model applied to the context of digital voice assistants. In an empirical study, we test our model and found that, e.g., trust reduces perceived privacy risks and positively influences users’ attitudes and intentions towards and subsequently use of digital voice assistants. We found various routes of trust in the use of digital voice assistants as a necessary condition for users’ adoption. Our results provide insights into important antecedents for the dissemination of digital voice assistants and subsequently for the adoption of voice commerce into companies’ business models.

In recent years, the higher education system of Ukraine has faced significant upheavals: the introduction of quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic, martial law, and active hostilities. These upheavals were the reason for the transition from the traditional form of education to the distance form. To ensure a high level of distance learning, teachers actively use online learning platforms. The peculiarity of teaching mathematics is the high level of abstraction of educational information. A critical component of the organization of distance learning in institutions of higher education is the provision of conditions for students' maximum comfortable perception of the educational material. With the transition to distance learning, the question arose as to how to make the process of learning mathematical disciplines visible and understandable for applicants. Among all pedagogical technologies, interactive learning technology occupies an important place in the implementation of distance learning in the educational process. Interactive technologies are implementation of in the educational process through online tools and services. One of the main means of interactivity is an interactive online board. The use of online boards in the educational process of higher education institutions solves the problems of ensuring visibility, interactivity, availability of quick feedback, and organization of work in a single virtual space. In the work modern online whiteboards are analyzed: Miro, CleverMaths, LiveBoard, IDroo, Drawchat, Jamboard, Scribblar, Classroomscreen, Microsoft Whiteboard, and Twiddla. The main criteria for the analysis were chosen: the possibility of online use of the board, access to participants via the link, the existence of an application for Android and IOS, and free service. Miro, LiveBoard, Jamboard, and Microsoft Whiteboard meet all the requirements of interactivity, but unfortunately have limited functionality for teaching mathematical disciplines. CleverMaths has the largest visualization functionality for teaching math disciplines. At the same time, CleverMaths lacks interactivity. The combination of CleverMaths in a complex with additional communication channels, namely programs for video conferences, allows you to achieve the necessary level of visibility and interactivity for distance learning of mathematical disciplines in higher education institutions. An exploration of course and cohort communication spaces in Discord, Teams, and Moodle

This research examined the impact of supplementing a learning management system, Moodle, with communication tools, Discord and Teams, to support communication in blended and distance undergraduate courses in computer science, information technology, mathematics and statistics at a New Zealand university with well-established use of Moodle. Nineteen students participated in semi-structured interviews. Findings show that adding Discord or Teams increases information and knowledge exchange and helps students to connect with peers and teachers in their courses. Teams was beneficial particularly in settings with formal group work. Discord, which enables both students and staff to set up additional communication channels that are not restricted to course enrolments, was instrumental in connecting students across year levels with peers and alumni. This enabled discussions on course selection, career options and disciplinary topics beyond the course curriculum. Importantly, these beyond-course communication spaces nurtured belonging to wider discipline and study communities. The research establishes the importance of the increased levels of communication by highlighting the effects on student learning and connections to others. Looking beyond the specific tools, the level of formality and the degree of student co-ownership are identified as key factors in supporting the within- and beyond-course communication spaces. Implications for practice or policy: Learning management systems provide valuable course support but do not meet all learning and teaching communication needs, partly due to their formal and university-controlled nature. Educators and students benefit from using strong chat tools with improved information and knowledge exchange. Both educators and students experience enhanced belonging when using collaboration and chat tools. Students value Discord’s informality and student-led characteristics. Educators who use Teams to support formal group work must carefully manage integration with Moodle.

Stabilizing Angle Rigid Formations With Prescribed Orientation and Scale

Angle rigid formations have the advantage of requiring only local bearing/direction measurements in their implementation. However, the capability of controlling the orientation and scale of these formations has not been explored. This undetermined orientation and scale can degrade the robustness of the formation against measurement noise. To maintain both advantages of requiring less sensor measurements and sustaining robustness against measurement noise, this article aims to achieve a desired angle rigid formation while simultaneously controlling its orientation and scale. In this article, we first design a formation algorithm for the first three agents to achieve a desired triangular formation with prescribed orientation and scale. Using the control gain design technique, we then design formation control algorithms for the remaining agents such that the overall desired formation can be achieved under a vertex addition operation. We present the role of <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">generic</i> property from angle rigidity for the formation’s stability analysis. We also highlight that with one additional relative position measurement or two additional communication channels, the local convergence to the corresponding desired formation can be improved to a global convergence. Experiments are conducted to validate the theoretical results and the advantages are highlighted in comparison with other two formation control laws.

Personality type of consumers and their engagement with brands on Instagram

Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., help create an additional channel of communication with consumers, each offering unique value to the brand and consumers. To use the potential of these sites, brands must understand consumer psychology and behavior related to various social media sites and then devise their strategy. Although there is a rise in the number of users across social media platforms, the surge of Instagram users is substantially high, making it imperative for brands to be active on Instagram. Thus, our study aims to understand the factors affecting the positive behaviors of consumers for a brand and whether these behaviors are a result of personality types. Three personality types were, namely (i) Openness to Experience, (ii) Neuroticism, and (iii) Extroversion were considered along with two modes of interaction -(i) Broadcasting and (ii) Communicating. Also, the two relevant behaviors for customer engagement on Instagram were (i) Liking and (ii). Data for the study was collected through structured questionnaires from respondents between 18 and 28 years through convenience sampling. Exploratory Factor Analysis and Regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The study revealed that extroversion and openness to experience personality type engage through the broadcasting mode of interaction and neuroticism personality type engage through communicating mode. In addition, those who engage through broadcasting mode tend to like and comment on the brand post. On the other hand, those who use communicating mode just like on the brand post on Instagram. This study is important to understand factors affecting consumers’ Instagram behavior, which will help the brand manager, formulate a better Instagram strategy for consumer engagement.

Cryptographically Privileged State Estimation With Gaussian Keystreams

State estimation via public channels requires additional planning with regards to state privacy and information leakage of involved parties. In some scenarios, it is desirable to allow partial leakage of state information, thus distinguishing between privileged and unprivileged estimators and their capabilities. Existing methods that make this distinction typically result in reduced estimation quality, require additional communication channels, or lack a formal cryptographic backing. We introduce a method to decrease estimation quality at an unprivileged estimator using a stream of pseudorandom Gaussian samples while leaving privileged estimation unaffected and requiring no additional transmission beyond an initial key exchange. First, a cryptographic definition of privileged estimation is given, capturing the difference between privileges, before a privileged estimation scheme meeting the security notion is presented. Achieving cryptographically privileged estimation without additional channel requirements allows quantifiable estimation to be made available to the public while keeping the best estimation private to trusted privileged parties and can find uses in a variety of service-providing and privacy-preserving scenarios.

Communicating Through a Pandemic: Insights on Crisis Communication from Steel Authority of India Limited, Rourkela Steel Plant

Executive Summary The year 2020 will go down in the annals of history as the year of COVID-19, the year the whole world was left devastated. Even in 2021, countries are being ravaged by the virus, with no immediate end in sight. In fast-moving and uncertain situations, leaders face many questions for which they might not have any answers ( Argenti, 2020 ). Therefore, the question is how leaders can manage the communication environment with clarity, consistency and empathy during this period of extreme disruption ( Glinska, 2020 ). Crisis communication is generally defined as the accumulation and dissemination of information during crisis situations to alleviate the severity of the crisis. This study outlines and analyses the communication strategies and measures adopted by the management of one of the biggest manufacturing industries of the country, the Steel Authority of India Limited, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), during this ongoing COVID-19 crisis. A survey on the efficacy of the communication measures adopted by the management was conducted on 345 employees. The results showed a high level of support for all the implemented communication measures. Yet employees at the junior level articulated a need for better communication exchange with the top management. They perceived their voices as going unheard and sought additional communication channels connecting them to the highest authority. Considering the feedback received from the employees, additional communication measures were adopted. RSP’s Mass Contact Exercise was revived in an online format. A mobile app was developed containing all information and guidelines that an employee would need regarding precautions, prevention, testing and treatment of COVID-19. Quick and clear communication at every juncture let RSP tide through arguably the toughest pandemic period. Thus, it should always be ensured that appropriate communication channels are effectively implemented for vital information to reach every corner of the organization.

Виртуальные формы взаимодействия педагога с родителями в современной образовательной организации

The research objective includes theoretical and empirical justification of efficiency of virtual teacher-parents interaction in digital educational environment. The authors classify virtual forms of family-school interaction, analyse the existing digital tools and reveal relevant problems of distance communication between teachers and parents. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that relying on the conducted theoretical and applied research, the authors have identified the most efficient forms of virtual teacher-parents interaction considered as an additional communication channel, revealed the existing problems of virtual family-school communication. The conducted empirical research justifies importance of interaction with parents, including virtual interaction, which allows improving information competence of a teacher and parents and helps to overcome typical problems of distance learning.

Covert Channels in Cyber-Physical Systems

In this letter, using a control-theoretic approach, we present a covert channel technique, enabling a compromised networked controller to leak information to an eavesdropper who has access to the measurement channel. We demonstrate that this can be achieved without establishing any additional explicit communication channels by properly altering the control logic and exploiting robust reachability arguments. Finally, a dual-mode receding horizon model predictive control strategy is used as an illustrative example to show how such an undetectable covert channel can be established.

ВЛИЯНИЕ ВЗАИМОДЕЙСТВИЯ ЭЛЕМЕНТОВ АНТЕННО–ФИДЕРНОГО ТРАКТА РАДИОЛОКАТОРА НА ШУМОВЫЕ ХАРАКТЕРИСТИКИ КАНАЛА ПРИЕМА

The influence of the interaction effects of the transmitting and receiving antennas of a mil-limeter-range radar, as well as the direct transmission of the transmitter signal to the receiver input via the internal circuits of the microwave chip on the level of the decorrelated phase noise is under consideration. It is shown that for a certain amount of interaction between the anten-nas, the delay time of signal propagation along the paths of additional reception, the receiver noise factor and the level of phase noise of the carrier frequency of the transmitter at the detun-ing frequency equal to the frequency of the useful signal, the output noise power of the receiver converter by the additional receiving channel and the receiver’s own noise become comparable. Due to the additional noise reception channel, the signal-to-noise ratio decreases and the range of the radar action decreases as well. The calculation uses data for the noise factor of the re-ceiver and the spectral density of the phase noise of the synthesizer of the AWR1243 millimeter–wave transceiver chip from Texas Instruments in the frequency range from 77 till 81 GHz. The effect of a dielectric antenna shelter on the coupling between the transmitting and receiving antennas, and on the spectral noise power density at the receiver input, is considered.
