Nickel salt-catalyzed addition reaction of arylboronic acids to aromatic aldehydes

Arylation reaction of aromatic aldehydes with arylboronic acids proceeded smoothly in the presence of a base and catalytic amount of a nickel salt, Ni(ClO 4) 2·6H 2O, in toluene/IPA = 5:1 or IPA to afford corresponding diarylmethanols in good to excellent yields.

Orthoplatinated Triarylphosphite as a Highly Efficient Catalyst for Addition Reactions of Arylboronic Acids with Aldehydes: Low Catalyst Loading Catalysis and a New Tandem Reaction Sequence

Readily available, air/moisture-stable orthoplatinated triarylphosphite catalyzes the addition reactions of arylboronic acids with aldehydes with the catalyst loading as low as 0.01%. It also cataylzes a new tandem reaction of arylboronic acids with alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes to form 1,3-diaryl-1-propanols. Our study provides a new paradigm for the application of orthoplatinated triarylphosphites, and may pave the road to develop other Pt(II) catalysts for such addition reactions and other tandem reactions with such addition reactions as part of the reaction sequence.

Phosphinite- and phosphite-based type I palladacycles as highly active catalysts for addition reactions of arylboronic acids with aldehydes, α,β-unsaturated ketones, α-ketoesters, and aldimines

Phosphinite- and phosphite-based type I palladacycle-catalyzed additions of arylboronic acids with aldehydes, α,β-unsaturated ketones, α-ketoesters, and aldimines are described. Our study showed that readily available phosphinite- and phosphite-based type I palladacycles could possess higher catalytic activity than phosphine-based palladacycles and were highly active, practical catalysts. Our study may pave the road for development of optically active phosphinite- and phosphite-based palladacycles for asymmetric catalysis.

Anionic Four-Electron Donor-Based Palladacycles as Catalysts for Addition Reactions of Arylboronic Acids with α,β-Unsaturated Ketones, Aldehydes, and α-Ketoesters

Anionic four-electron donor-based palladacycle-catalyzed 1,4-additions of arylboronic acids with alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones and 1,2-additions of arylboronic acids with aldehydes and alpha-ketoesters are described. Our study demonstrated that palladacycles were highly efficient, practical catalysts for these addition reactions. The work described here not only opened a new paradigm for the application of palladacycles, but may also pave the road for other metalacycles as practically useful catalysts for such addition reactions including asymmetric ones. Synthesis of novel N-heterocyclic carbene-Rh complexes derived from L-proline and their catalysis in the addition of arylboronic acids to aldehydes

Novel chiral imidazolium salts and a stable N-heterocyclic carbene-Rh complex derived from Lproline have been synthesized. The N-heterocyclic carbene-Rh complexes either generated in situ or pre-synthesized are active catalysts for the addition reaction of arylboronic acids to aldehydes affording the corresponding secondary alcohols in excellent yields.
