Organizing and chairing a special session at an Acoustical Society of America meeting is easy. The hardest part is raising your hand for the first time at a Technical Committee (TC) to promote a topic of interest to you and your peers. There are many reasons why proposing a focused Special Session can benefit the ASA membership and you. This presentation will describe the steps you need to take to propose a special topic, arrange for the session to be listed in the Call for Papers, and how to organize your session. You will understand how to contact specific subject matter experts to give invited presentations, and how to describe your topic to encourage other authors to contribute papers. This presentation will be especially helpful for students and first time meeting attendees, and will hopefully motivate more early-career members to attend TC meetings, volunteer to Chair upcoming special sessions, and increase interaction with subject matter experts in that particular area.
