ESG management has now become a new management paradigm both domestically and internationally. ESG is a non-financial performance indicator to achieve corporate sustainability, and encompasses responsibilities and obligations to stakeholders. Recently, as the safety issue of overseas products imported from online shopping malls in China has emerged, the need to ensure consumer safety and health from hazardous products is increasing. Accordingly, the establishment of product safety disclosure standards for consumer protection is required in the ESG information disclosure process. In this paper, in order to establish product safety indicators for sustainability disclosure standards for ESG management, the disclosure standards of major domestic and foreign initiatives were reviewed and analyzed to examine the introduction of product safety-related indicators, and product safety indicators that can be set for consumer safety and health were developed and presented. As product safety indicators, this paper first presented the occurrence of illegal and defective products, occurrence of product accidents, block hazardous products, number of recall orders and recommendations, and recall recovery rate as indicators that can be introduced throughout the entire product life cycle. In addition, the product risk level, the number and ratio of products for which risk assessment was performed, and the methods and standards used for risk assessment were presented as indicators related to product risk that indicate the level of impact of the product on consumer safety and health. In addition, the consumer safety index was presented as an indicator related to product safety accidents that occur during the consumer product use phase. The consumer safety index is an index that allows consumers to directly feel the level of product safety due to product accidents that occur when consumers use the product. It can be said to be a product safety index from the consumer's perspective that can protect consumer safety.

Corporate sustainability and biodiversity reporting: A proactive business strategy to mitigate litigation and reputational risks

AbstractBiodiversity is important to human's future survival and global sustainability. One way to achieve corporate sustainability is for firms to report its impacts on biodiversity. However, fear of litigation arising from reporting potentially deters corporations to disclose such information. Motivated by the importance of biodiversity and mixed evidence of shareholder litigation rights as a corporate governance tool, we explore whether the universal demand laws (UDLs) have any effect on corporate biodiversity reporting in the United States. Supporting our short‐termism, risk aversion and agency hypotheses, we find that an exogenous decline in the threat of derivative litigation, reducing a chance for shareholders to file a lawsuit against top management and intensifying agency costs, economically and significantly decreases a corporate's biodiversity reporting by 87%. When the disciplining effect of shareholder litigation drops, the self‐interest manager may want to live a quiet life and disclose less information of biodiversity impact. A proactive business strategy to mitigate litigation and reputational risks is to voluntarily disclose more biodiversity‐related information. Regulators around the world should also promote rigorous reporting requirements to reverse biodiversity loss and save our humanity.

Facilitating corporate sustainability integration: innovation in family firms

PurposeThe purpose of the study is to understand the relationship between family-driven innovation and the incorporation of corporate sustainability in German family firms.Design/methodology/approachThe study conducted 26 interviews with 22 German family firms. Thematic analysis was undertaken on the collected data resulting in five major themes.FindingsThe study identified five main themes of corporate sustainability-oriented innovation in family firms, which include measuring corporate sustainability performances, building corporate sustainability-oriented infrastructure, stabilizing/optimizing operations, enhancing operational flexibility/independence and knowledge management and development. The study also provides an activity-based guide for family firms to use innovation to achieve corporate sustainability goals and present the findings’ implications for policymakers.Originality/valueThe present study is the first study to empirically investigate the relationship between family-driven innovation and the incorporation of corporate sustainability at each of the corporate sustainability maturity levels.

Unleashing the power of green innovations: the role of organizational ambidexterity and green culture in achieving corporate sustainability

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the effect of organizational ambidexterity (OA) and organizational green culture (OGC) on corporate sustainability (CS) while incorporating the mediating role of green innovation (GI) to provide a detailed insight into CS. The study also presents a research framework based on the Organizational Ambidexterity theory and Natural Resource-based view to explain the factors contributing to CS.Design/methodology/approachUsing stratified sampling, the study collected data through survey-based empirical research from 307 textile companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) or the All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA). The collected data were analysed using path analysis, mediation analysis and moderation analysis through smart PLS-SEM version 4.0 to assess the composition and causal association of factors.FindingsThe study found a significant relationship between OA and OGC with CS. Furthermore, the study revealed that green innovation partially mediates the relationship between OGC and CS. The proposed research framework can be valuable for promoting and recommending actions to enhance CS.Research limitations/implicationsThe study on CS in the textile sector of Pakistan has limitations such as a narrow focus, cross-sectional design and reliance on self-reported data. Future research should explore additional factors, conduct longitudinal research, investigate contextual factors, scrutinize specific green innovation practices and broaden the scope of the study to include SMEs and other textile organizations.Practical implicationsThe research framework can help senior executives to foster CS by promoting OGC, OA and GI. Practitioners and academicians can also utilize or further investigate the proposed framework for validation and to foster CS.Originality/valueThis study fills gaps in the existing literature by investigating the mediating effect of GI between OGC and CS. The proposed research framework provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to CS based on the Organizational Ambidexterity theory and Natural Resource-based view.

Analysis Of Sustainability Communication Strategies in PT. Jaya Ancol People's School CSR Program

This study aims to analyze the Communication Strategy for Sustainability of the PT People's School CSR Program. Jaya Ancol with a focus on program objectives, communication methods used, and the impact that has been produced. The research method used is a literature study by collecting and analyzing secondary data related to CSR programs and corporate sustainability communications. The analysis results show that PT. Jaya Ancol has succeeded in conveying sustainability messages through various communication channels, strengthening public awareness, and building support for the company's sustainability efforts. In addition, the Sekolah Rakyat CSR Program provides concrete benefits in the form of increasing access to education for the community around Ancol and strengthening positive relationships between the company and the local community. Continuous evaluation and responsiveness to change are the keys to maintaining the sustainability of this program. This study provides a positive picture of the importance of strategic communications and CSR programs in achieving corporate sustainability goals

Human resource management and sustainability: Bridging the 2030 agenda

AbstractThe scientific literature related to human resource management (HRM) and sustainability has increased since 2015, coinciding with the establishment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This article combines a bibliometric approach, using VOSviewer and SciMat software, with a systematic literature review to assess and identify the scientific production in this domain. During the period studied (1996–2023), the results reveal the role of HR in achieving corporate sustainability but also the responsibility of companies to apply sustainable principles to HRM practices. Based on the findings and the less developed issues related to the SDGs and HRM a model of research proposals is provided, focusing on mental health (SDG 3), gender equality (SDG 5), collaboration towards climate action and responsible production and consumption (SDGs 12 & 13), and more emphasis on SDG 1 regarding the social sustainability of organisations.

CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY IN THE HEALTH SECTOR: A THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

The objective of this study is to identify the concepts of sustainability and corporate sustainability, their historical development and contributing organizations, the reasons and principles of sustainability, and the necessary steps for achieving corporate sustainability in healthcare institutions. This article conducts a literature review on the topics of sustainability and corporate sustainability by examining various databases, online libraries, and academic publications. Supported by examples and recommendations found in the literature, the article provides several suggestions for achieving corporate sustainability in healthcare institutions. These recommendations can serve as a valuable guide for healthcare institutions to operate in accordance with sustainability principles and work towards a sustainable future. Corporate sustainability for healthcare institutions includes recommendations that can be applied in environmental, social, and economic areas. Some of these recommendations include energy efficiency, waste management, green energy usage, providing social benefit, and implementing sustainable business practices. These recommendations can help healthcare institutions achieve their sustainability goals and ensure the sustainability of healthcare services in the future. Accounting collects, analyzes, and reports sustainability-related data accurately. This data helps businesses evaluate their sustainability performance and plan their future activities. Among the reasons why sustainability is necessary in the healthcare sector are high carbon footprint and waste production, energy and water consumption, material waste, and the widespread use of single-use materials. Therefore, healthcare institutions must operate their businesses in accordance with sustainability principles, fulfill their environmental and social responsibilities, and strive for a sustainable future along with their financial goals.

Profitability as a Moderator in the Implementation of Environmental Management Accounting for Corporate Sustainability

This study aims to examine the effect of implementing environmental management accounting on corporate sustainability moderated by company profitability in mining and manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2019-2022. Environmental management accounting is measured by eco-efficiency, and company sustainability is measured by GRI standards using content analysis with a scoring approach in assessing environmental and social achievements. Profitability is measured by return on equity (ROE). This research uses a panel data method with a fixed effect model approach. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with the criteria of companies that publish annual reports, and disclose sustainability reporting successively during the 2019-2022 period so that a total of 33 companies were obtained. The research results show that there is a positive influence on the application of environmental management accounting on corporate sustainability strengthened by profitability as a moderator. The application of environmental management accounting can increase its influence on corporate sustainability when the company's profitability is high. This condition is expected to have an impact on achieving corporate sustainability by fulfilling economic, environmental, and social aspects by the triple bottom line concept as a pillar that can create a sustainable business.

The impact of economic performance on the environmental protection orientation of mining enterprises: A case study of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in China

Environmental protection and sustainable economic development are significant issues that impact people's lives and contribute to the construction of a beautiful China. The approach to corporate sustainability depends on the environmental protection orientation adopted by the enterprise. This paper takes a dual perspective of pollution-oriented and ecology-oriented environmental protection. It uses panel data from mining companies in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 2013 to 2020 at the micro level to examine whether the economic performance growth of enterprises contributes to achieving corporate sustainability goals. The study results indicate an inverted U-shaped curve relationship between enterprise economic performance and pollution-oriented environmental protection (POLEVP), with an initial increase followed by a subsequent decrease. On the other hand, there is a U-shaped curve relationship between enterprise economic performance and ecology-oriented environmental protection (ECOEVP), with an initial decrease followed by a subsequent increase. Mechanism analysis reveals that the structure effect, scale effect, and technology effect have different regulatory effects on the relationship between economic performance and enterprise environmental protection orientation. Further research demonstrates that companies in heavy-polluting industries and those audited by the Big Four accounting firms tend to prioritize POLEVP In contrast, state-owned enterprises show a stronger emphasis on ECOEVP compared to non-state-owned enterprises. These findings can provide valuable insights for decision-makers in promoting the sustainable development of the YREB at the micro-enterprise level and facilitating the green, low-carbon transformation of mining companies.

Classification of 3D Casting Models for Product Lifecycle Management and Corporate Sustainability

The purpose of this study was to combine simulations and experiments in order to present the first stage of construction in product lifecycle management. Based on the simplification of casting models, the relationship between the filling and solidification characteristics, casting methods, and geometrical classifications of aluminum alloy precision casting products was investigated. By rearranging and summarizing the data, the casting models could be digitally managed; moreover, the digitized data could be used as the basis for intelligent processes in further developments. The simulations calculated and analyzed the casting speeds, defect locations, material densities, and critical fraction of a solid A356 aluminum–silicon alloy; the actual casting was carried out and samples were taken for metallographic observation to confirm the simulation results. The part model was simplified with four basic geometric shapes: solid cylinder, tubular, block rectangle, and thin-shell rectangle. The 150 casting models were summarized using 37 combinations, which were further classified into five main categories to match the casting method: solid cylindrical, tubular, and thin-shell rectangular for side casting, and discoidal and plate rectangular for bottom casting. File-compression rates of up to 75% were achieved after classification and archiving, and data integrity was maintained. Finally, model training using random forest classification resulted in an 88.8% accuracy when predicting the casting method. This research is based on the practical issues raised by business owners and R&D engineers, and a solution was obtained. From the perspective of product lifecycle management, the results of this study show the consistency and uniformity of product design rules, as well as the reusability of product process planning, which can be integrated with carbon emissions trading and carbon taxes to save energy and achieve corporate sustainability.

Environmental innovation and corporate sustainability: evidence-based systematic literature review

PurposeSustainability at the corporate level is interpreted as the approach capable of creating prosperity over long-term horizons through targeted strategic integration, sustainable business system and societal transitions, beyond economic growth, along with environmental quality and social equity. In this context, this article aims to explore the interplay of the relationship between environmental innovation and corporate sustainability.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted in the Web of Science and Scopus databases for the last six decades to explore the proposed relationship. Data were selected on August 2, 2020, and the analysis period lasted until July 20, 2021. A research protocol consistent with the methodological rigor required in conducting an SLR was prepared for the mapping and analysis of relevant research.FindingsIn the last five years, there has been an evolution in research related to green innovation in supply chain management. Based on this evolution, there is a growing concern with the development of sustainable business models, taking into account the motivation to adopt green innovation practices aimed at corporate image. The purpose lies in verifying the organizational capabilities in achieving corporate sustainability practices and economic performance. The results show a greater concentration of studies exploring (1) sustainable business models, (2) the complexity of the sustainability tripod balance, in addition to (3) organizational strategies based on green and competitive practices.Originality/valueFew works explored the context of small and medium-sized companies, especially those located in emerging and underdeveloped countries. This opens up a promising field of research. The main contributions of this article are related to (1) the presentation of a portfolio of theoretical and methodological approaches on the subject, which allows the exploration of the possibilities of empirical studies; and (2) showing the current status of research on environmental innovation and its impact on corporate sustainability. This article explores the interplay of the relationship between environmental innovation and corporate sustainability and brings state-of-the-art research about the theme.

Achieving Corporate Sustainability through Green Human Resource Management: The Role of CSR in the Banking Industry of a Developing Country

Green human resource management (GHRM) and green innovation are highly important aspects for firms to achieve corporate sustainability, particularly in developing countries. This study explores the effect of GHRM and green innovation on obtaining corporate sustainability through the mediating effect of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). A quantitative approach using self-administered surveys is deployed, where a total of 192 data points were obtained from bank managers in Beirut. Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is used for analyzing data in Smart-PLS version 3. The findings suggest that both GHRM and green innovation have positive impacts on corporate sustainability. Furthermore, the mediating effect of CSR activities has been supported in both relationships between GHRM and corporate sustainability and between green innovation and corporate sustainability. These results provide both managerial and theoretical implications that can be beneficial for scholars and practitioners alike.

The driving factors of corporate carbon emissions: an application of the LASSO model with survey data

Corporate carbon performance is a key driver of achieving corporate sustainability. The identification of factors that influence corporate carbon emissions is fundamental to promoting carbon performance. Based on the carbon disclosure project (CDP) database, we integrate the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model and the fixed effects model to identify the determinants of carbon emissions. Furthermore, we rank determining factors according to their importance. We find that Capx enters the models under all carbon contexts. For Scope 1 and Scope 2, financial-level factors play a greater role. For Scope 3, corporate internal incentive policies and emission reduction behaviors are important. Different from absolute carbon emissions, for relative carbon emissions, the financial-level factors’ debt-paying ability is a vital reference indicator for the impact of corporate carbon emissions.

Do Age and Gender Change the Perception of Workplace Social Sustainability?

Social sustainability must be included into the workplace in order to achieve corporate sustainability. Each indicator of the workplace’s social sustainability must consider employee perspectives. In this study, we estimate Indonesia’s employee preferences gap in workplace social sustainability. The dimensions referred to include views on employee well-being and concerns about safety. Workplace comfort and musculoskeletal health are considered dimensions supported by environmental concerns. This research was conducted on 643 current employees and analyzed based on a workplace social sustainability questionnaire. Through online surveys, we measured employee preferences concerning workplace social sustainability diversity and how they differ by gender, industry sector, age, education level, and types of industry. The findings of this research will encourage the company to reconsider its approach to social sustainability improvement in terms of the contributions made by its employees. The study also suggests research into whether and how differences in gender, industry sector and industry type are shaped due to workplace social sustainability. Gender concerns must be considered to achieve social sustainability in the workplace. It contributes significantly to achieving the 5th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Balanced scorecard and eco‐innovation in the industrial sector: A strategic map for environmental innovation

AbstractIn recent years, companies in several industries have adhered to new initiatives, developed new technologies and industrial processes to help reduce pollution and address other factors that have negative impacts on the environment. However, there is a lack of practical methodologies to evaluate the environmental performance of an organization, and there is no appropriate methodology to help companies direct their investment strategies to achieve corporate sustainability. An eco‐innovation plan is an important tool to help industries become more environmentally friendly, but its implementation is difficult to achieve in the short term. To this end, this article offers a strategic eco‐innovation map based on the well‐known balanced scorecard (BSC) that aims to help companies mitigate environmental impacts and promote sustainable development without harming their development and growth. Based on a review of the relevant literature and a survey of 30 environmental experts using four dimensions and 38 indicators, the map provides a methodological path for the investment in environmental sustainability initiatives and programs with financial returns.

Relationship of total quality management with corporate sustainability in the MSME sector: does innovation capability play a mediating role?

PurposeThis study attempts to find the structural relationship between Total Quality Management (TQM) and Corporate Sustainability (CS) by analyzing the role of Innovation Capability (IC).Design/methodology/approachThe authors conducted the study in the context of manufacturing industries in the Indian Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. In the process, The authors attempt to throw light on the significance of TQM and IC in bringing out sustainable practices in organizations. The authors used Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS to study the relationship between TQM and CS.FindingsThe authors measured TQM through product control management, process control, vendor quality management and customer relationship improvement. We did find a direct relationship between TQM and CS, along with its three dimensions: environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and social sustainability. TQM was found to be antecedent to IC. IC, measured through product innovation, process innovation and managerial innovation, did not mediate the relation between TQM and CS. However, the link between TQM and social and environmental sustainability partially mediates through IC at the dimension level.Practical implicationsTQM can provide a holistic means of nurturing participation and satisfaction of stakeholders for achieving corporate sustainability and in the process, can create an innovative culture for stimulating a circular social economy.Originality/valueThis study fills the gap in the literature by providing a structural model that explains the relationship between TQM and corporate sustainability and highlights the role of innovation capability in achieving it.

Correlation Between Learning Motivation and Satisfaction in Synchronous On-the-Job Online Training in the Public Sector.

Non-governmental organizations often regard expanding revenue and reducing costs as standard procedures to achieve corporate sustainability, while at the same time considering human resources as important assets. Government agencies have greater flexibility in staffing, and their human resource strategies for employee education and training often use organizational learning to develop operational performance. Training is regarded as a panacea for corporate sustainability and channels have been established to support employees' learning. Curriculum development of synchronous online learning is an approach that requires further investigation. We distributed 360 questionnaires to supervisors and employees of the Taipei City Government, Taiwan. A total of 268 valid copies were retrieved, giving a response rate of 74%. The study results are expected to help public sector employers enhance employee cohesiveness and generate more operational team spirit.

Two-decade journey of green human resource management research: a bibliometric analysis

PurposeDuring the past decade, the green workplace has attracted the attention of academics and industry alike. As a result, new research areas like green human resource management (GHRM) started emerging. Green workplace means greening of traditional business functions, namely, human resource management, marketing, operations and supply chain. GHRM can play a strategic role in enabling organizations to implement and formulate sustainable strategies and help them achieve corporate sustainability. This paper helps understand the GHRM scholarship and provides an up-to-date account of GHRM practices.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper, the authors have adopted the bibliometric analysis method to analyse and draw inferences from 247 articles retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database for the time horizon of almost two decades: 2005 to June 2021. The methodology's schematic view comprises four steps: data collection, data analysis, data visualization and interpretation. The present study intends to understand GHRM scholarship using Bibliometric R-package and VOSviewer software.FindingsThe study offers some interesting insights that may help scholars, line managers and top management to conceptualize the GHRM practices in their organization, which is currently limited to a few HR practices (hiring, training and reward), geographies, developed countries and industries. These can be extended to other HR practices (e.g. industrial relations). In addition, this paper contributes to the GHRM literature in identifying the keywords, authors, journals, intellectual, conceptual and social structure.Research limitations/implicationsThe study underpins the research in the area of GHRM in order to understand the trends on this topic over the past 17 years in terms of prolific authors, most impactful journals, key themes and the field's intellectual and social structure. The study indicates that this field is still in its development stage. Hence, there is a need for more arduous research on the topic to help develop a better understanding of this new field.Originality/valueThe paper helps understand green practices in human resource functions, focusing on corporate sustainability goals. It helps the line managers and top management make GHRM a central function for achieving sustainability goals. In addition, these findings can be a road map for the researchers to investigate the field of GHRM further.

Dynamic Capabilities to Achieve Corporate Sustainability: A Roadmap to Sustained Competitive Advantage

Dynamic capabilities and sustainability practices have become the center of attention for companies globally, but there is still a debate on how organizations can successfully develop dynamic capabilities and achieve sustainability for competitive advantage. This paper discusses the outcomes of a comprehensive systematic literature review (SLR) following the PRISMA guidelines and employs dynamic capabilities theory to suggest that strategic routines and competencies, integrated value chains, sustainability-oriented transformations, and strategic organizational developments are the drivers to effectively develop dynamic capabilities. Similarly, environmental-oriented sustainability, sustainable strategic management, sustainable dynamic capabilities, stakeholder-centric approach, sustainable supply chain management, operational excellence, sustainable research and development (R&D), and sustainability-oriented global business strategy are found to be the drivers to achieve overall corporate sustainability. Based on the findings, a conceptual model is proposed to obtain sustained competitive advantage by developing sustainable dynamic capabilities and achieving corporate sustainability.
