Learning apps can be helpful to non-native language learners in learning Arabic, which includes speaking, writing, and speaking exercises. When learners become better in the language, they become more confident in interacting with the community, thus affecting their Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and Acculturation (AC). This study aimed to explore the relationship between the CQ and AC among non-native learners of Arabic. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate the potential impacts of learning apps and gender. This study used a correlational approach, involving a sample of 102 non-native Arabic language learners in Jordan. To assess these factors, this study used the Cultural Intelligence Scale and the Acculturation Survey. The findings of this study revealed a positive correlation between the CQ and AC. Furthermore, the use of apps can provide CQ and AC levels. In addition, the study determined that gender did not play a significant role in influencing learners. the utilization of educational apps has been shown to enhance both CQ and AC. Thus, it is imperative to encourage learners to engage with these apps, as they foster cultural awareness, thereby facilitating the process of learning Arabic.

Background. The literature local venture out; 1) l to migration of talent from universities and emergent, stay in universities and developed talents return to his alma mater; 2) acculturation, multiculturalism and interculturality as management systems for the expulsion and reception of migrants; 3) the adaptation of migrant workers and the assimilation and selection of talents, as well as the identity in both; 4) the inexorability between community worker entrepreneurship and academic talent entrepreneurship. Objective. Specify a model of local entrepreneurship based on a review and discussion of theoretical, conceptual and empirical frameworks related to the migration of workers and talents. Method. A documentary study was conducted with a selection of indexed sources during the period from 2010 to 2019 in repositories in Latin America. Results. The model specified included after hypothesis of correlational trajectories between the assimilation, selectivity and identity variables reviewed in the state of knowledge. Discussion. From the approaches of acculturation, multiculturalism and interculturality, the inclusion of explanatory variables of equitable relations between economic, political and social actors is noted. Conclusion. The specification of the model can only be checked if it is possible to observe inter-culturalism in the public policies of micro-financing of entrepreneurial projects for local development.

This thesis is based on empirical fieldwork that consisted of two Interpretative\nPhenomenological Analysis (IPA) studies investigating the acculturation experiences of\nSaudi international students in the UK. It further explored the identity negotiation process\nand perceived consequences on their sense of self and identities by combining the original\nacculturation framework from Berry (1997, 2011) with the Dialogical Self Theory of\nHermans (2001).\n\nThe aim of Study One was to examine transitions when moving to and studying in the UK\nfor Saudi Arabian students focusing on the experiences that students reported as\nchallenges. A sample of 8 Saudi international students studying at a university in South\nEast England was used to collect data. Using IPA method, the analysis identified 14\nprimary themes relating to the Saudi Arabian students' experiences of the UK. Drawing\non Berry’s model (1997; 2011), the themes were organized around two stages of\ntransition: 1) pre- moving to the UK and 2) arriving and living in the UK; and a third major\ntheme emerged in the data, which was the impact of change on self-development. The\nfindings reinforced experiences that are common to all international students, but in\nparticular, they highlight experiences that were very specific to the sample of Saudi\nstudents studied. The findings showed that Saudi students experienced various\nchallenges and difficulties. However, Study One also reported self-development as the\noutcome of students’ acculturation. Further, the participants addressed the dialogue in identity positions linked to their home culture (Saudi) and being in the UK.\n\nThe novel findings were used to guide the development of Study Two. The aim of this\nstudy was to understand how Saudi students negotiated the demands of different identity\npositions. This study involved a sample of 11 Saudi international students studying at\nuniversities in South East England. This involved an expansion of the theoretical\nframework by combining the original acculturation framework from Berry (1997, 2011) with\nDialogical Self Theory from Hermans (2001) to obtain a more in-depth understanding of\nhow Saudi students gave meaning to the idea of being Saudi students in the UK. Using\nIPA (Smith et al., 2009) and DST (Hermans, 2001), combining both phenomenology and\ninterpretation, the analysis identified three distinct I-positions: I-as a Saudi in the UK, I-as\na Saudi Arabian national identity, and Identity negotiation processes among these\npositions. The findings illustrated key areas of dialogical self experience of Saudi students.\nIn this study, the dialogical self of the participants was engaged in negotiating I-positions\nand repositioning processes, which were dependent on and prompted by the participants’\ngoals of studying abroad and their preferred future.\n\nThe original and important findings generated by this research have distinct implications\nfor the acculturation of Saudi international students and identity negotiations and\ncontribute to the literature on cross-cultural experiences and international students' issues.\nThis research contributes to helping prospective and current Saudi students to become\nmore informed regarding the experiences they may encounter when studying in the UK.

Starting from the concept of habitus, not dissociated from the “pure universes”, both in art, as in science, as in religion, and based on the concepts of field and strategy(s), a reflection is made about the specific and multidimensional habitus of the members of the Company of Jesus, covering some aspects of their journey around the world. It is a reflection on a singular, missionary habitus, incorporating strategies for the diffusion and implementation of the Christian faith and the recognition of practices, through religious migrations, which are not separated from teaching, culture, science, in short, from knowledge and acculturation of indigenous people, where art(s) are still present, in and for an appropriation of symbolic significance.

The purpose of this thesis was to explore the influence of acculturation on female perceptions of beauty. The research objective of this study asked how length of residency in the host country can influence immigrants’ perceptions of beauty. The ABC acculturation framework (Ward, Bochner & Furnham, 2001) was used as a theoretical lens of interpretation in this study to help categorise and interpret the data. This thesis was the first time the ABC acculturation framework had been used in a study of this nature. A literature review showed a gap in the interface of acculturation and marketing in the area of immigrant perceptions of beauty. A constructivist approach was used for this study as it believes that meaning and knowledge are formed based on how a person constructs them, using their own perceptions and comprehensions. As this study is exploring immigrants’ perceptions of beauty it was important to understand that the meaning of beauty is subjective to each individual. This was a qualitative study in nature because it provided grounds for in-depth and abstract analysis. 16 Indian immigrants in New Zealand were interviewed in a semi-structured format. Beauty advertisements from both New Zealand and India were used as a medium to facilitate discussion. The use of the ABC acculturation framework (Ward, Bochner & Furnham, 2001) allowed the data to be effectively categorised into affective, behavioural and cognitive change. The results showed changes in all three areas. The data showed that length of residence had little influence on these changes, however media was found to have notable influence. This finding led to suggested additions and changes to the ABC acculturation framework (Ward, Bochner, & Furnham, 2001). It also provided new insights into an understudied area in literature. Managerially, the findings provided implications for market segmentation, strategic planning and the use of these insights in the creation of marketing communications.

Wine tasting notes can be considered a multifunctional genre within the discourse of wine writing. They are a key instrument in the process of wine acculturation (Lopez Arroyo, Roberts 2016, p. 371; Caballero 2009, p. 75) and of wine marketing and promotion. Tasting notes are a short text usually organized in three distinct sections containing the three steps of the evaluating procedure, that is to say the assessment of wines’ colour, smell (technically referred to as ‘nose’ in English and ‘naso’ or ‘profumo’ in Italian), and taste (defined by the technical term ‘palate’ and ‘palato’ or ‘gusto’ in Italian). Descriptions and labels may be said to be strategically elaborated in order to persuade potential customers to change or strengthen their thinking. Indeed, a number of studies suggest that the information on the label directly influence people’s perception of the quality and attributes of wine (Morgan, Tresidder 2016, p. 200), thus confirming the importance of tasting notes. Even though wine labels seem to be organised according to general and universal features, similar concepts related to taste and nose may be differently communicated by different cultures. In order to check this hypothesis, three comparable corpora have been assembled by downloading red wine tasting notes from Australian, US, and Italian winemakers’ websites and analysed by means of AntConc software for linguistic investigation. Furthermore, a qualitative analysis will also be carried out, in order to identify metaphors and check similarities and differences of usage in the three cultures. The analyses described in this paper may contribute to provide an overall description of the characteristics of this genre across languages, and to detect culture-influenced communicative differences, with important implications in the process of translation and international marketing strategies.

Following the political instabilities that have characterised Ghana few years after independence from British colonialists, many were those who thought multiparty democratic governance was the surest way to good governance and sustainable human development. The paper argues that citizens’ uncooperative attitude in governance issues, and leaders’ unpreparedness to be accountable to the citizenry result from lack of democratic acculturation. The way forward to achieving and ensuring good governance and peace in Ghana therefore is an elaborate and sustained democratic education geared toward making democracy a way of life for Ghanaians. The paper is an empirical study founded on current affairs and democratic politics in Ghana. It combines historical and sociological approaches in the interpretation of textual data and empirical observations in the formulation of its reflections. In so doing, it examines what democracy is not, on one hand, and what it is, on the other. Informed-knowledge of these two realities will lead to democratic literacy urgently required for good governance, socio-economic and political development in Ghana. Key words: Democracy, governance, illiteracy, authoritarianism, dictatorship, responsiveness.

With a fast-growing population of immigrant and international students entering English-medium higher education in Canada, it is critical to understand the nature of academic experiences for these students and what contributes to their academic acculturation and post-secondary success. As such, a literature review was carried out to identify emerging themes related to students using English as an additional language in post-secondary settings. This article is based on a literature review of 87 empirical studies, conducted between 2008 and 2018, related to the academic acculturation journey of international students using English as an additional language in English medium higher education setting. Three major themes—academic engagement, academic socialization, and social integration in relation to English language ability—emerged from the literature among a multitude of influential factors. The findings of this literature review point to the importance of supporting students using English as an additional language as they navigate a new academic culture.

Latina/o emerging adults living in southern states may be especially at risk of being disproportionately affected by HIV. In 2015, Latina/os aged 20 to 24 accounted for 14.7% of all 20-24-year old’s living with HIV in southern states, despite the fact that 20 to 24-year-olds make up 3.7% of the region’s overall population of individuals living with HIV (CDC, 2016; U.S. Census Bureau, 2017). Specifically, there continues to be groups of Latina/o emerging adults who do not use condoms when they are sexually active and who are not using condoms consistently. Condom use literature suggests that relationship factors, such as power dynamics and dating violence (DV) victimization, can play an essential role in Latina/o emerging adults' attitudes towards condoms and condom use behaviors. Hence, there is a continued need for studies focused on identifying factors that serve as barriers to and supports for southern-residing, Latina/o emerging adults’ condom use behaviors. To this end, 196 Latina/o emerging adults (59 males, 137 females) completed a survey that asked questions about their sexual attitudes, behaviors, intentions, cultural factors, and DV. This study sought to examine the inter-relations among Latina/o emerging adult’s DV experiences (i.e., victimization, perpetration), cultural factors (i.e., acculturation, traditional gender roles (TGRs), familismo), and condom use outcomes (i.e., attitudes toward condoms, condom use efficacy, condom use negotiation efficacy). Second, it sought to investigate whether biological sex and cultural factors moderated the relationship between DV experiences and condom use outcomes.\nBivariate correlations revealed a number of associations between the variables and regressions analyses suggest that adherence to TGRs significantly affected whether or not females had perpetrated or experienced DV. Further, biological sex was found to moderate the relationship between DV perpetration and condom use negotiation efficacy and DV perpetration and Attitudes towards condoms such that the effect is stronger for Latinos compared to Latinas. Lastly, familismo beliefs was identified as an exacerbator, such that the positive relationship between DV victimization and condom use efficacy is particularly strong for individuals who possess higher familismo beliefs than those with lower familismo beliefs. This study’s finding of Latina’s increasing condom use negotiation efficacy among Latina’s that perpetrate DV sheds insight into the possibility of Latinas utilizing physical violence as a method of achieving a balance of power and sexual control in a romantic relationship to protect themselves against STIs. Given this, future researchers should longitudinally investigate the nuances in DV perpetration and victimization behaviors among emerging adults with an emphasis on relationship power dynamics in heterosexual relationships among Latina/os.
