Textbook and Board Exam Prep Resource Trends in Academic Health Sciences Libraries Serving College of Osteopathic Medicine Programs

Objective This study collected and analyzed data on the required and recommended textbooks and board exam prep resources in academic health sciences libraries that serve accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine (COM) programs in the United States. Methods The study consisted of locating, compiling, and analyzing data on the required and recommended texts and board exam prep resources through the COM libraries’ public-facing websites. Results The investigators compiled the required or recommended texts and the board exam prep resources used within the COM curricula from 38 COM libraries. Conclusion The study results provide information for medical school administrators, especially within the academic affairs department and library directors, to help identify trends across U.S. osteopathic medical schools to justify the need for additional resources and services. These results can assist medical and library leadership in COM schools in planning for their future academic health sciences libraries and COM programs. Finally, the findings could assist programs in library and information sciences in redesigning their curriculum and students who seek future careers in academic health sciences libraries.

Quality Analysis of PDCA-Based Edupreneurship in 21st-Century Higher Education

The objective of this qualitative descriptive study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle in enhancing the quality of entrepreneurship education, or "edupreneurship," within universities, with a focus on Tangerang Raya University. This research engaged key stakeholders from the university, including the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, deans and vice deans of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Humanities, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and the Faculty of Engineering, as well as coordinators of study programs and students participating in edupreneurship initiatives. The findings indicate that the PDCA cycle significantly contributes to the improvement of edupreneurship quality and achievements at Tangerang Raya University. By facilitating the identification of weaknesses, the PDCA cycle enables continuous enhancements in the entrepreneurial education process. Despite its effectiveness, the implementation of the PDCA cycle in edupreneur programs encounters several challenges. These include constraints such as limited resources (budgets, teaching staff, and facilities), implementation hurdles, varying levels of engagement among members, shifting priorities, challenges in identifying opportunities, time limitations, difficulties in impact assessment, collaboration challenges, member turnover, and environmental uncertainties.This study underscores the PDCA cycle's potential in fostering edupreneurship within universities. However, it also highlights the necessity for addressing the aforementioned obstacles to fully leverage the PDCA cycle's capabilities in enhancing the quality of edupreneurship education. Addressing these challenges is essential for the sustained success and effectiveness of edupreneur programs driven by the PDCA quality management cycle.

전업직장인의 상담학 학습경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

Objectives The purpose of this study is, on the one hand, to examine the experiences of individuals who are full-time employees and enrolled in the process of learning in counselor education, and on the other hand, to phenomenologically reveal the meaning behind their experiences.
 Methods Interviews were conducted on seven full-time employees who are in counseling graduate school for more than 3 semesters or within 1 year of graduation, and analyzed by Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. Participants consisted of those in their late 30s to early 50s who had more than 10 years of work experience and experienced vocational activities in different occupations from the counseling field. The data collection period was from September to December 2021, and after an in-depth interview of 90 to 120 minutes, additional interviews were conducted by phone or text message if necessary.
 Results As a result, 5 categories, 19 topic bundles, and 81 topics were derived. The five categories are as follows. ‘studying counseling to break away from current instability’, ‘making good changes during the counseling course of study’, ‘facing psychological difficulties arising from both occupation and academic affairs’, ‘maturing the mind through learning in counselor education’, and ‘running a life as an employee also doing in counseling job’. In conclusion, participants, with over 10 years of full-time work experience and a stable career will go to counseling, a new field, and the world of experience can be summarized as “growth through counseling studies upgrades professionalism in the current workplace and running a life as an employee also doing counseling job.”
 Conclusions The research results confirmed the experiences and meanings experienced in the course of learning in counselor education, and based on this, provided basic data for future related education and information provision.

Examining who is conducting and leading National Institute of Health-funded research in U.S. schools of nursing

BackgroundNursing science is essential for generating a unique body of knowledge that is foundational to the academic discipline of nursing. PurposeThe goal of this analysis is to detail the education and licensing of faculty and leadership in research-intensive schools of nursing and to present the current data on the National Institute of Health (NIH) funding patterns in schools of nursing. MethodsThe faculty composition analysis focused on the 40 U.S. schools of nursing receiving the most NIH funding through faculty serving as PIs on grants awarded in 2023. For the NIH funding patterns analysis, data were extracted from the NIH RePORTER database. DiscussionOf the top 30 NIH-funded Schools of Nursing, all the Deans and Associate Deans of Academic Affairs are educated or licensed as nurses; whereas only 55% of Associate Deans of Research are educated or licensed as nurses. In 2022, nearly half of the top-ranked schools of nursing had less than half of their NIH funding awarded to faculty who are trained and licensed as nurses ConlusionThe current trends in the research enterprise in schools of nursing implore us to assess if we are adequately training nurses to advance nursing science and more importantly to serve as leaders of nursing science.

Who feels taught to lead? Assessing collegiate leadership skill development

PurposeUsing a panel of over 433,000 college students from over 600 institutions of higher education in the USA, we investigate students’ opinions of leadership skill development during their undergraduate tenure.Design/methodology/approachThe data used in this analysis come from the Higher Education Research Institute, which runs the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) housed at the University of California, Los Angeles. Among others, the CIRP administers two surveys known as The Freshman Survey (TFS) and the College Senior Survey (CSS).FindingsThe present research supports the extant literature and conventional wisdom of academic and student affairs professionals with regards to engagement in leadership classes or training where students have an opportunity to increase their knowledge bases through course content, and when there are opportunities for them to apply leadership principles, the students are more likely to report an increase in leadership capacity upon completion of their collegiate degree.Originality/valueIf colleges and universities are serious about fulfilling their espoused visions, then it is essential that awareness of leadership courses and applied opportunities be heightened and made a strategic priority to ensure resources are allocated in appropriate places to support these key efforts. It also suggests greater collaboration between academic and student affairs, as well as other departments (e.g. athletics and centers), is needed, as well as prioritizing experiential learning.

Half a Century in Service: Professor Leonid Gerasimovich Marchenko (1941–2019)

This text is a dedication to the Professor Leonid Gerasimovich Marchenko, a graduate of the Leningrad Institute of Chemical-Pharmaceutical Sciences. Throughout his career in education, L.G. Marchenko progressed from being an assistant to eventually heading the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology of Medications. Apart from his teaching activities, he was actively involved in administrative work: serving as deputy dean, and from 1983 to 1986, as the dean of the Pharmaceutical Faculty; from 1986 to 2005, he was the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, then from 2005 to 2008, the First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and from 2008 to 2009, an advisor to the rector. The essay draws on family archival materials, thanks to the active support of Ekaterina Anatolievna Marchenko, who carefully preserves the memory of her husband, L.G. Marchenko. For almost half a century, Leonid Gerasimovich's life was inseparably linked to the Saint Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical University. Here he studied from his student years, continued his education in graduate school, and then worked in the university for more than 40 years. Leonid Gerasimovich embodied the principles of academic integrity and responsibility. He always attached great importance to the quality of his work, sought perfection, and inspired his colleagues to achieve high results.

The research results can be summarized as follows: I) The current state and problems of educational administration of the secondary school in Thailand overall practice is at a high level when considering each aspect, there are practices at a high level in all 8 aspects: 1) Planning and quality assurance 2) Academic affairs 3) Student affairs 4) Human resources 5) Administrative work 6) Finance and supplies 7) Building and environment services and 8) Community work and affiliate networks. As for the educational administration problems in Thai secondary schools, the overall practice is at a low level, when considering each aspect, there is a low level of practice in all 8 aspects: 1) Planning and quality assurance 2) Academic affairs 3) student affairs, 4) Human resources, 5) Administrative work, 6) Finance and supplies, 7) Building and environment services, and 8) Community and affiliate networks. Maria A. Oquendo: The translational pathway from the elucidation of the biological contributions to suicide risk to the development of interventions aimed at preventing morbidity and mortality

Dr. Maria Oquendo is Ruth Meltzer Professor and Chairman of Psychiatry at University of Pennsylvania and Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. A summa cum laude graduate of Tufts University, she attended College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University and completed residency at Payne Whitney Clinic, New York Hospital, Cornell. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in medicine. Dr. Oquendo has used Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging to map brain abnormalities in mood disorders and suicidal behavior. Her expertise ranges from psychopharmacology to Global Mental Health. She has over 500 peer-reviewed publications, an H-index 116 and 49,472 citations (Google Scholar). In terms of organizational leadership positions, Dr. Oquendo is Past President of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the International Academy of Suicide Research, the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP), and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Board of Directors. She is Vice President of the College of International Neuropsychopharmacology and has served on the National Institute of Mental Health's Advisory Council. Dr. Oquendo serves on Tufts University's Board of Trustees, serves on its Executive Committee and chairs Tufts’ Academic Affairs Committee. A recipient of multiple awards in the United States, Europe, and South America, most recently, she was honored with the Symonds Award (APA 2017), the APA's Research Award (2018), the Shockley Award (ACNP 2018), and the Glassman Award (Columbia University 2021). Dr. Oquendo has shared some of her thoughts and perspectives on her life and career.

An overview of the research of the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji) in South Korea over the past forty years (1971–2010)

The Shiji (史記 Records of the Grand Historian) is a pathbreaking monument of Chinese history. Its author Sima Qian 司馬遷 created a genre of biography centered around individuals that was continually used in dynastic histories from the Han dynasty onward. Sima Qian's composition of the Shiji not only respected historical facts and directly portrayed them as they occurred, but also paid attention to featuring polished language and beautiful writing. He organically integrated different styles of narrative, expressions, and reasoning and achieved a high degree of uniformity of thought and art, providing a model for later generations of literature and history. The Shiji was not only a pioneer in the genre of Chinese biographical history, but also had a far-reaching impact on later prose, fiction, and drama. It was also soon transmitted overseas and had a large effect on countries in the Chinese cultural sphere. With the introduction of the Shiji to Korea, Korean intellectuals particularly showed interest in and reverence for the work, and it was highly valued in the Korean academic world. By the mid-1960s, with the development of the national economy, all of South Korean society entered a new period of history that not only saw fundamental changes in the nation's appearance, but also saw academic and cultural affairs return to the right track, and at that time South Korean academics renewed their high degree of interest in learning about and researching Chinese academics and culture. It was on this foundation that South Korean intellectuals made great advances in translating and studying the Shiji and made positive contributions to its transmission, spread, and popularization. After briefly reviewing the transmission of the Shiji in Korea, this paper reviews the state of translation and study of the Shiji in South Korea from the nearly four decades from 1971 to 2010 and offers an objective evaluation of some shortcomings and gaps in this research.

This article contributes to the history of the development of Polish United Workers Party university committees on the example of the Tricity academic community. The goal of the communist party’s actions at universities was to seize control over academic affairs while simultaneously bringing students into the political mainstream through ongoing ideological and instructional initiatives. As a result, higher education’s independence was reduced and subjugated to political agendas. Recruitment of students into the PZPR ranks was not given much importance at first; it wasn’t until the 1960s that it started to receive significant attention. As a result, duties delegated by higher authorities were formalized, and there was more control over how they were carried out. Despite intensive activities aimed at increasing youth participation in party life, until the end of the existence of the Polish People’s Republic, the scope of the PZPR’s influence among students was limited. The only measurable criterion of the party’s offensive in the academic community was quantitative, not qualitative.

Construction of an information-based English teaching quality evaluation system based on the fusion of multimedia English educational resources

Abstract Today's information technology is constantly evolving, multimedia teaching, a new form of classroom teaching, has long been widely used by colleges. However, in many colleges, its teaching advantages have not been fully exerted, although the school spends a lot of human, data, and financial resources to publicize and promote multimedia classroom teaching, the effect of multimedia classroom teaching is not very good. There are many reasons for this, including the lack of an effective evaluation system to guide teachers in their teaching activities. Therefore, the top priority is Establishing a correct and appropriate multimedia English teaching evaluation index system. Starting from the characteristics and requirements of multimedia classroom teaching, this paper constructs a multimedia classroom teaching evaluation index system in colleges and universities based on the problems faced by current multimedia classroom teaching, promoting the quality of teaching in multimedia English classrooms through the English Teaching Evaluation System - the medium between theory and practice. The teacher teaching quality evaluation system studied in the thesis can completely solve the problem of unreasonable evaluation of teacher learning quality, and provide an integrated teaching quality evaluation model for students, teachers, and academic affairs offices. The system has changed the original evaluation method and constructed a teaching quality evaluation model that integrates. Data collection, evaluation management, online evaluation, and teaching resource data management, to achieve fair, scientific, and comprehensive evaluation, and provide a comprehensive management and analysis platform for comprehensively mastering evaluation of multimedia English teaching quality.

MERDEKA BELAJAR CURRICULUM AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL

This study aims to describe the innovation and obstacles of Implementation Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at junior high school number 7 of Palembang. This type of research is qualitative in a descriptive way. The key research instruments are observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The data source for this research is the results of interviews with the assistant principal of academic affairs and curriculum sector as well as 10 teachers who teach using the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. The results found by researchers are : 1). Innovation from the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at Junior High School Number 7 of Palembang has been running and implemented in accordance with the content of merdeka belajar curriculum, which focuses on the Strengthening Pancasila Student Profile Project (P5). An innovative project of an independent school curriculum is called "Merdeka dari Sampah", 2). The implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at Junior High School Number 7 of Palembang is very effective for teachers and students, 3). There are no obstacles to implementing the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at Junior High School Number 7 of Palembang.

DETERMINING STUDENT GRADUATION BASED ON SCHOOL LOCATION USING GEOGRAPHICALLY WEIGHTED LOGISTIC REGRESSION

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) is one of the Faculties in Tanjungpura University with 9 Undergraduate Programs (S1). Based on the graduation data of the 2014 batch of FMIPA students, the number of students who did not complete their studies was 131 students or 29% of the total 445 students and 187 schools in Indonesia. If the study period of students can be predicted early, the study program can provide advice or recommendations so that students can complete their studies in/exactly 8 semesters. This study aims to determine the model for analyzing the factors that influence the graduation of FMIPA students using GWLR. Geographically Weighted Logistic Regression (GWLR) is a developing logistic regression model applied to spatial data. This model is used to predict data with binary dependent variables that consider the location characteristics of each observation. The units of observation in this study are the school location of 455 students spread across Indonesia. The variables used in this study were sourced from the Academic and Student Affairs Bureau UNTAN and divided into dependent variables (Y) and independent variables (X), i.e. Gender, college selection, Accreditation, School Type, School Location, and Name of Study Program. The dependent variable analyzed is the graduated status of FMIPA UNTAN students, i.e. completed and not completed their studies. The results showed that gender and the name of the study program are factors that affect the graduation of FMIPA UNTAN 2014 students with a classification accuracy of 72.6%.

Evaluasi kegiatan seleksi koleksi perpustakaan sebagai pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi dosen di lingkungan UIN Imam Bonjol Padang

Lecturers are involved in the collection selection process prior to procurement. There are various ways of selecting collections such as using publisher catalogs, publisher websites, user suggestions, google forms, syllabus. The purpose of this study was to find out the collection selection process carried out by the Library UPT UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, the response of lecturers in the selection process, and the fulfillment of lecturers' information needs regarding the selection results. This research is descriptive quantitative in nature. The author will describe the collection selection process along with lecturer responses and to fulfill information needs. Then the number of fulfillment of lecturers' information needs on collection proposals is described in percentage form. The results showed that only a small proportion of lecturers (12.2%) of the participating lecturers responded to the collection proposals by filling out the Google form, Google Doc, document files, syllabus delivery and course distribution. UPT Library UIN Imam Bonjol Padang can fulfill most (73.5%) of the proposed collection. Libraries need to increase promotion related to proposing collections to lecturers. Collaboration with the academic and student affairs divisions as well as TIPD needs to be improved to obtain syllabus data and distribution of courses for collection selection

The change of the COVID-19 pandemic on medical education in Korea: a national survey of medical schools

Purpose: This study aims to investigate how medical schools in Korea managed their academic affairs and student support in response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and their plans for the post-COVID-19 era.Methods: An online survey was conducted, and a link to a questionnaire was distributed to all the administrators of the 40 medical schools in Korea. The final analysis data involved responses from 33 medical schools and 1,342 students. Frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, Fisher’s exact test, and one-way analysis of variance were applied for statistical analysis.Results: Regarding instruction methods, most medical schools in Korea transitioned from in-person learning to video-on-demand learning (51.5%) and real-time online learning (42.4%). Among the school leaders, 36.4% planned to continue offering online classes combined with in-person classes beyond the end of the pandemic. Among the students, the online class concentration and participation score was 3.0 points or lower, but the class understanding score was 3.6 points, above a moderate level.Conclusion: Students cited the shorter times needed to attend school and being able to take classes repeatedly as advantages of online classes, and over one-third of medical schools intended to continue with a hybrid of in-person and online learning even after the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions end.

Implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Primary Schools in a Province of Northern Thailand

Implementing comprehensive sexuality education combats unsafe sexual behavior among children and adolescents. However, risky sexual behavior among teenagers still exists globally, including in Thailand. This qualitative descriptive research aimed to explore the implementation of comprehensive sexuality education in primary schools in a province of northern Thailand and to identify facilitators and barriers related to its implementation. Data were collected from June 2021 to May 2022 through in-depth interviews with 15 primary school teachers and nine primary school principals/deputy directors of academic affairs and analyzed using thematic analysis. Four themes emerged: 1) Promoting implementation of comprehensive sexuality education, including the policy level and the teacher levels, 2) Informal teaching, including non-compulsory subjects, differential content coverage, teaching informal style, availability of teaching aids, and unstructured evaluation, 3) Motivation as a facilitator for implementing comprehensive sexuality education, including teachers’ eagerness, children’s enthusiasm, changes in children’s outcomes, and support for teaching comprehensive sexuality education, and 4) Challenges and overcoming the barriers to implementing comprehensive sexuality education, including traditional vs. a paradigm shift, sensitive issues, lack of coordination, and lack of continuity and sustainability. The findings provide essential evidence that informal teaching in comprehensive sexuality education as a non-compulsory subject is valued, but some barriers should be eliminated by nurses to enhance children’s well-being and actively contribute to the prevention of health issues, including comprehensive sexuality education. Additionally, nurses play an active role in developing prevention programs and promoting healthy lifestyles, which encompass comprehensive sexuality education. The collaboration among nurses, school administrators, and teachers would support the effectiveness of implementing comprehensive sexuality education.

The Organization of Negative Business Messages Preferred by Students in Higher Education

Written communication in an educational setting aims to convey messages related to academics or finances. The messages delivered contain either positive or negative information. This study aims to reveal the organization of negative business messages preferred by higher education students while receiving messages from university parties. The participants are the vice-chancellors for finance and academic affairs or the representatives (heads of divisions) at three private universities within the Association of Catholic Higher Learning Institutions as the senders and 170 active students in several universities as the receivers. This study uses quantitative and qualitative descriptive approaches. I collected data through online questionnaires, semistructured interviews, and observation of written documents in email and WhatsApp. I proposed four essential dimensions of negative message, namely, organization/approach, language, medium, and response, with the Likert scale questionnaire. I also inserted two cases of negative messages at the end of the questionnaire to find students’ tendency to select one they liked. The questionnaire results are used to discover the participants’ preference for the approach of relaying negative messages, corroborated by the interviews. The study found that students preferred direct approach to negative business messages. Buffers, prevalent in negative business with indirect order, are found in the email. A positive tone was not found at the end of the message. The study concluded that negative messages should be conveyed in writing with direct organizations and positive language and addressed to students before being forwarded to their parents

Assessing the Organizational Communication Style and Its Effect on Employees' Performance in the Case of Wachemo University

In the case of Wachemo University, this paper looks into evaluating organizational communication style and how it affects employee performance. 261 sample respondents were given a standardized questionnaire as part of the study's survey methodology. The study's aims were achieved by combining the dependent variable, employee performance in the organization, with the independent variables completeness, correctness, consideration, clarity, conciseness, courtesy, and concreteness. Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs, Research and Community Service, and Administrative and Development are all involved in this investigation. The sample was chosen purposefully within each office: from the academic vice-president's office, the colleges of business and economics, social science, and agricultural science were chosen; from the research and community service vice-president office, the following institutions were chosen: Community service directorate office, Research publication office, and Research directorate office. The finance office and Student service office were chosen from the administrative and development vice-president office. Following collection, the data was analyzed using tables and graphs that use descriptive statistics. Additionally, a multiple linear regression model was employed to investigate how changes in each of the study's independent factors affected how well the employees performed. The results demonstrate that every independent variable has a favorable and significant impact on how well an organization's employees perform. Affective commitment and the communication surrounding work and organization were both favorably impacted by social and emotional subjects that were discussed between superiors and subordinates. The organization should build a fluid communication style between different departments for them to better coordinate and cooperate to achieve the overall organizational goals, according to the results and recommendations.
