Students' Metacognitive Ability Mathematical Problem-Solving through the Problem-based Learning Model

Students lack metacognitive ability despite its vital role in mathematical problem-solving. The problem-based Learning (PBL) model is one of the learning models to improve metacognitive ability in problem-solving. This study aimed to analyze the students'metacognitive ability in mathematical problem solving through PBL and examine its improvement. This present study applied the explanatory sequential mixed-method design. The population was the Year 11 students from one of the senior high schools in South Aceh Regency, Indonesia. Data collection was conducted using three instruments: pre-test, post-test, and interview guidelines. The pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using the t-test, while students' metacognitive ability was analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that students' metacognitive ability in mathematical problem solving through the PBL model was increased. Furthermore, students' metacognitive abilitywas at the semi-reflective use, the strategic use, the aware use levels for high-ability, medium-ability, and low-ability groups.

The Effect of Open Ended Approach on Problem Solving Ability and Learning Independence in Students' Mathematics Lessons

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether 1) solving mathematical problems between students who take learning with an open-ended learning approach and students who take learning without an open-ended learning approach; 2) the influence of mathematical ability among students who have learning independence high, medium and low; 3) whether the Open-Ended learning approaches and student learning independence there was an interaction of the students' mathematical problem solving ability. This research was Quasi Experimental design The Non-equivalent Post-test Only Control Group Design. This study population throughout the first semester of seventh grade students of MTs Negeri 1 Bandar Rice academic year 2018/2019. A research technique used is purposive sampling with a sample class as a class VII-1 and VII-2 experiment as a control group. The research instrument used was a test description to measure students 'mathematical problem solving and a questionnaire to measure students' learning independence. Analysis of the data in this study is a two-way ANOVA. The results of data analysis 1) there is a mathematical problem solving among students who take the learning with the Open-Ended learning approach with students who take the lesson without learning approach Open-Ended; 2) there is an influence on the ability of mathematical problems between students who have high, medium and low learning independence; 3) there is no interaction between the Open-Ended learning approach and students 'learning independence on students' mathematical problem solving ability.

IMPLEMENTATION OF OPEN-ENDED APPROACH TO MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM SOLVING IN CLASS V OF CEWENG JOMBANG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

This study aims to determine the ability of mathematical problem solving before or after the application of the open-ended approach and student’s responses during learning. The techniques used in collecting data were interviews, questionnaire tests, and documentation. This type of research is quantitative with experimental design, statistical techniques are used to analyze the research results. The results of the study can be seen with the results of the pretest and posttest student’s abilities. The ability of students showed an average difference between the pretest and posttest scores of 36.71 and 80.81 and the Fcount was 122.927. So the conclusion is the problem solving ability of students has a significant difference and tends to increase. As well as a very positive response shown by students with a percentage of 84.3%.

PENGARUH MODEL DISCOVERY LEARNING MENGGUNAKAN METODE BRAINSTORMING TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH MATEMATIKA

This research was took based on the low ability of Mathematical Problem Solving by students. The objective at this research was there were any impact teaching Models Discovery Learning Using Brainstorming Methods toward students’ ability in Mathematical Problem Solving at grade VIII SMP Al-Ikhlas Lubuklinggau in academic years 2019/2020. The research method used is of pure experiments. The population in this experiment is all of Students grade VIII SMP Al-Ikhlas Lubuklinggau that consist of 73 students and the sample as exsperimental class was VIII.A and as the class control was VIII.B.In collecting the data the researcher used test. The data that was collected, it was analysed by z-test .The result showed that at level of sicnificances 𝛼 = 0,05, it can be concluded that there were impact teaching Models Discovery Learning Using Brainstorming Methods toward students’ ability in Mathematical Problem Solving at grade VIII SMP Al-Ikhlas Lubuklinggau in academic years 2019/2020. Analysis of Students Metacognitive Ability in Mathematical Problem Solving in SMP Negeri 4 Bendahara Aceh Tamiang

The purpose of this research is to analyze: 1) the students metacognitive ability in mathematical problems solving, 2) difficulties experienced by students’ metacognitive in mathematical problem solving, 3) process of students’ metacognitive answer in mathematical problem solving. This research is as qualitative descriptive research aimed to describe the students’ metacognitive ability in mathematical problem solving with problem-based-learning model. Subject in this research is class VII in SMP Negeri 4 Bendahara Aceh Tamiang. The subjects consisted of four students; one in high-ability student, one medium-ability student, one low-ability student, and one with the most wrong answers. The data is obtained from the essay test and depth interview. While the object of ths research is the students’ metacognitive ability in problems solving by learning mathematics with problem based learning model on the subject of integers and fractions. based on the analysis of research data, the result that: 1) the mathematical problem solving ability of students with high category at the level of metacognitive Strategic Use, the students medium category at the level of metacognitive Aware Use, and low category at the level of metacognitive Tacit Use. 2) metacognitive difficulties experienced by students in solving mathematical problems include difficulty facts, concepts, principles, and procedures.

Penerapan Pendekatan Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) ditinjau dari Multiple Intelligences

The purpose of this research is to know if there are: (1) the influence of PMRI approach to the problem-solving ability of mathematical learners; (2) the influence between multiple intelligences capability categories of mathematical problem solving abilities; (3) there is an interaction between PMRI approach with multiple intelligences on mathematical problem solving ability. This research is a quasi-experimental design research with 2 × 3 factorial design. Sampling technique in this research use probability sampling with cluster random sampling. The research instrument used is the test of mathematical problem-solving ability and multiple intelligences questionnaire. The resulting data of mathematical problem-solving test were analyzed by using another test of two different cell paths. The result of the research shows that: (1) there is an influence of PMRI approach to students' mathematical problem solving ability; (2) there is influence between categories of multiple intelligences ability in mathematical problem solving ability; (3) there is no interaction between PMRI approach with multiple intelligences on mathematical problem solving ability.

Inductive-Deductive Approach to Improve Mathematical Problem Solving for Junior High School

This research is experimental quantitative about quasi experiment that emphasize on improve mathematical understanding and problem solving for Junior High School students by inductive-deductive implementation. The population of this research are all of students at IX degree students in Subang 2012/2013. Two of nine classes were chosen as sample for this research. The topic which used is probability including random occurrence, basics of chance, relative frequency, calculation of probability, determining the value of probability, the expected frequency and the combined odds of two events. The instrument that was used are test and non-test. Mathematical understanding and problem solving were used as a test methods. Meanwhile questionnaire, and observation sheet were used as non-test methods. The data was analyzed by Mann-Whitney and t-test. According to whole analyze in this research, can be concluded: 1) the student improvement of mathematical understanding by using inductive-deductive approach is in middle quality, 2) there is no significant difference at improvement mathematical understanding between experimental class and control class, 3) the improvement of student’s ability in mathematical problem solving that use inductive-deductive approach has a low quality, 4) there is no significant difference at mathematical problem solving between experimental class and control class, 5) most of students has positive responses to mathematic learning by inductive-deductive approach, although the students have many problems when learning takes place.

Penerapan Model Pembelajaran PBL Untuk Mengembangkan Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah Matematika

This research is a mixed method research with concurrent embedded strategy. The aim of the research is to find outthe students’ ability in mathematical problem solving that learn with problem-based learning (PBL) is better than the conventional learning; The population of the researchwas the mathematics education students of FKIP UNMA Banten.The sample of the research was two classes in semester IV. The instrumentsin this research werean essay, questionnaires and observation sheet of students’ and lecturersactivities. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively that was obtained from the pretest and posttest. The results showed thatthere is no significant difference between the students’ ability in mathematical problem solving that learnt with the problem-based learning (PBL) and the conventional learning.
