Enhancing Global Education Through Insights into Student Responses in Recount Text Writing

This qualitative study investigates the responses of 8th-grade students in writing recount texts at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Porong. Through interviews and analysis of students' texts, the research identifies students' chosen topics, feelings during writing, and difficulties faced. Results indicate that while many students struggle with composing recount texts effectively, they generally express positive feelings towards the task. These findings underscore the importance of teachers in supporting students' learning motivation and addressing writing challenges to enhance their writing skills.

Interference of prototypical geometry representations in students’ construction of concepts and development of proofs

ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of prototypical geometric representations on students’ ability to construct accurate geometric concepts and their subsequent performance in proving tasks related to those concepts. Ninety-one 11th-grade students participated in the study. We intentionally designed and utilized a questionnaire as the primary data-collection tool. We used the questionnaire items and findings as a basis for semi-structured interviews that we conducted with approximately 10% of the study participants. This allowed the integration of the quantitative and qualitative analyses, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the learning processes. Our analysis reveals that many Grade 11 students struggle with geometric concept formation due to an overreliance on prototypical examples, which in turn hinders their ability to construct proofs concerning the attributes of these concepts, highlighting the need for more diverse representations in geometry instruction.

Teaching Vocabulary Using the Duolingo Application in Junior High School

Most students in junior high school, especially seventh grade, had difficulty learning vocabulary. Even though vocabulary was very important for language learning. Duolingo could help with this problem because Duolingo could make students more interested and less bored when studying. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was an effect of the Duolingo Application in increasing the vocabulary mastery of 7th grade students at SMPN 32 Bandar Lampung in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research methodology used in this research was quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was all 7th grade students of SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung for the 2023/2024 academic year with a total of 180 students. This research sample consisted of two classes, namely class 7B with a total of 34 students as the experimental class, and class 7C with a total of 33 students as the control class. This meant that the total number of samples for this research was 67. The experimental class used Duolingo Application, while the control class used the “When English Rings a Bell” textbook and dictionaries. The sample for this research was determined using a cluster random sampling technique. The treatment was carried out in first meeting. In collecting data, this research used a test instrument in the form of 40 multiple choice questions. Before giving treatment, a pretest was carried out. Then, after the treatment has been carried out, a post test was given. The results showed that there is a significant difference in student scores before and after treatment. This research used hypothesis testing, especially the T-test, to find out whether the Duolingo Application had a significant effect on students' vocabulary scores. And the results show that Sig. (ρvalue) = 0.000 < α = 0.05. So Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using the Duolingo Application on increasing the vocabulary mastery of 7th grade students at SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung in the 2023/2024 academic year.

Rule-Based Games for Meaningful Learning in Sustainable Solid Waste Management

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of rule-based games as a pedagogical strategy for meaningful learning about sustainable solid waste management among 6th-grade students (Class 08) at the Leónidas Acuña Educational Institution (Cesar Department, Municipality of Valledupar, Colombia). Theoretical Framework: The research is based on the theories of Piaget (1962) and Ausubel (1983), highlighting the importance of play in children's cognitive development and meaningful learning. It also addresses sustainable solid waste management according to the environmental regulations and policies implemented in Colombia. Method: The study was developed using a non-experimental, cross-sectional quantitative approach. The sample included 28 students selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. A questionnaire with a Likert scale was used to collect data on knowledge and practices of waste management, learning disposition, and students' perception of using games. Results and Discussion: The results showed that 75% of the students have a high level of knowledge about solid waste, but there are significant deficiencies in sustainable management and recycling techniques. Additionally, 92.86% prefer classes that include games, highlighting their positive influence on meaningful learning. Research Implications: The research demonstrated the need to integrate playful strategies into environmental education to improve solid waste management. The results can influence educational policies and pedagogical practices, promoting deeper and more sustainable learning. Originality/Value: This study contributes to strengthening environmental pedagogy by demonstrating the effectiveness of rule-based games as an innovative educational tool to foster meaningful and sustainable learning about solid waste management. The findings can guide future research.

The Influence of The Use of Audio-Visual Media on The Ability of Fraction Calculation Operations of Grade IV Students of SD Negeri 4 Amparita Sidrap

This study examines the effect of the use of audio-visual media on the ability of fraction calculation operations of fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Amparita. The main problem studied is whether there is a positive influence of audio-visual media on the ability of fraction calculation operations of fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Amparita. This study is an experimental research that aims to determine whether there is a positive effect of audiovisual media on the ability of fraction calculation operations of fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Amparita Sidrap on the material of addition and subtraction of fractions. This research uses a quantitative approach. This study consists of two variables, namely audiovisual media and conventional models as independent variables and students' fraction calculation operation skills as the dependent variable, using the Randomized Subject Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design research design. The population in this study were all 4th grade students of SD Negeri 4 Amparita consisting of 1 class with a total sample of 42 people. The research sample of class IVA as an experimental class with 21 students and Class IVB with 21 students who were selected by Random Class. The data obtained were analyzed with descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive analysis showed that the average value of fraction calculation ability of experimental class students was 75.71 and the average value of fraction calculation ability of control class students was 60.48. The learning completeness of experimental class students was 85.95% while the learning completeness of control class students was 47.61%. Inferential statistical analysis to test the hypothesis through Independent Sample T-tests obtained the value of -t count < - t table (-3.678 < -2.021) or t count > t table (3.678 > 2.021) thus H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. In this case, audio-visual media has a positive effect on the ability of fraction calculation operations of fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Amparita Sidrap.

The Students’ Perception of YouTube in Learning English to Improve Speaking Skills on Senior High School in Eleven Grade

This study explores the perceptions of 11th-grade students at SMAIT Annur Bekasi regarding the use of YouTube in learning English to improve speaking skills. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a narrative approach to collect data from 10 purposively selected students. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews in the participants' natural environment. The findings indicate that YouTube can be an effective tool for enhancing students' English speaking skills through diverse and engaging content, providing opportunities for practice and feedback. Students reported that watching YouTube videos helped them understand more natural pronunciation, intonation, and expressions in English. Additionally, the use of subtitles and participation in discussions in the comment sections also contributed to their skill improvement. This study highlights the importance of integrating digital platforms like YouTube in language learning to create a more enjoyable and effective learning experience for students?.

Learning Inside the School, but Outside the Curriculum: An Extreme Case of Interest-Driven Learning in Alternative STEAM Learning Infrastructure for Schools

Choice and autonomy are central tenets of interest-driven learning. Yet, in most studies on interest in school, students’ choice and autonomy have been confined within the boundaries of the curriculum and the subject matter in question. This limits our understanding of how schools can support interest-driven learning as well as students’ interest development in educational settings more broadly. To address this gap, in this study, we have focused on student learning when they are allowed to follow their interests beyond the curriculum during school time. Building on relational and practice-based perspectives on interest, we conceptualized such extensions as productive deviations and centered on a particular case of two 6th-grade students - Tamaz and Nuri - who created two computer games during their time in the FUSE Studio, alternative STEAM learning infrastructure for schools. Our interactional analysis of Tamaz and Nuri’s problem-solving during their game-making shows that their productive deviation formed a significant learning experience for them in terms of game design and working with computers. Overall, our study contributes to discussions on fostering and supporting students’ interest-driven learning and interest development in school settings.

Exploring the Impact of SQ4R Technique on Reading Comprehension in 10th-Grade Students

The study was conducted with the primary objective of investigating the effectiveness of the SQ4R technique in enhancing the reading comprehension skills of 10th-grade students. To achieve this objective, a quasi-experimental research design was chosen, involving a single group of participants. The study cohort consisted of 40 10th-grade students from a secondary school in Thailand. The instruments were an SQ4R learning management plan and a specially designed reading comprehension test. Data analysis in this study was conducted using two distinct approaches. First, the effectiveness index (E.I), calculated as the ratio of E1 (process effectiveness) to E2 (product effectiveness), was employed to gauge the overall effectiveness of the intervention. Second, a paired sample test was utilized to determine any statistically significant differences between the participants' pre-test and post-test scores. The data collection process spanned an entire semester and was conducted within a public school in Thailand during the first semester of the 2023 academic year. The results obtained from this study unequivocally demonstrate the positive and constructive impact of the SQ4R technique on the reading comprehension abilities of the participating students. These findings not only contribute valuable insights to the field of education but also emphasize the practical utility of the SQ4R model in enhancing reading comprehension, particularly within the context of 10th-grade students in Thailand.

Implementation of The 7th Batch of Teaching Campus Program in Improving Literacy and Numeracy Competencies of SMPN 1 Tuhemberua

The Kampus Mengajar program has become an important initiative to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the impact of the Kampus Mengajar Batch 7 program on the literacy and numeracy skills of 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Tuhemberua, North Nias Regency. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The 8th grade students consisted of 108 students, so the study population was all 8th grade students, while the sample was only 30 students. The researchers collected data using test techniques, then analyzed the data with descriptive statistics. The results showed that students' literacy and numeracy skills increased significantly after a series of Kampus Mengajar Batch 7 activities were carried out, where the average literacy score increased from 38.17 in the pretest to 55.83 in the posttest, and the numeracy score increased from 16.83 in the pretest to 64.17 in the posttest. This program also provides students with direct community service experience. However, collaboration between students and schools needs to be strengthened to ensure the sustainability of the program. Future research is expected to include more schools and more detailed factors to measure the success of this Teaching Campus program as a whole.

The impact of various teaching methods on the knowledge of students of different genders: The case of mathematics word problems abstract

Despite significant progress in recent years, there is still evidence of gender differences and underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in mathematics. To promote equal opportunities for all students, it is essential to comprehend gender differences in math learning at school and identify potential barriers to educational equality. In this regard, our study examined the gender differences in solving word problems, and whether they relate to the solution strategy the students were taught.The study involved 100 10th-grade students divided into two groups and taught different solving approaches. One group was taught an algebraic approach using linear equations, while the other group was taught a combined approach, which incorporates the algebraic solution with a functional-graphic solution using a graph of a linear function.The research findings reveal gender differences in various aspects: Girls who learned the algebraic approach had better attainments than boys; Boys who learned the combined approach opted to solve problems with functions and graphs, whereas girls in the same group preferred an algebraic solution; Boys who learned the combined approach achieved significantly higher than boys who learned the algebraic approach.This study illuminates the importance of teaching word problems using diverse solution strategies because different populations of students respond differently to different strategies.

PATOGE geometry transformation board: A teaching aid to enhance junior high school students' conceptual understanding

Geometric transformation is a vital mathematics topic that should be learned at the junior high school level. Students often consider This material difficult because it is abstract and lacks concreteness. One effort to overcome this difficulty is by using teaching aids. This study aims to develop a geometric transformation board teaching aid to improve the conceptual understanding of 9th-grade junior high school students. This research employs a research and development method. The research sample consists of 17 9th-grade junior high school students. The results show that using the geometric transformation board teaching aid can enhance the conceptual understanding of 9th-grade students. The average student learning outcomes evidence this increase from 57.65 to 79.41. This study implies that PATOGE can effectively make abstract mathematical concepts more concrete and easier to understand.

Implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile on Global Diversity Dimensions in Junior High Schools

Globalization challenges national identity with global influences that disregard national borders and internal influences such as ethnic and regional ties. Pancasila is needed as a filter for new values to preserve local culture. This study explores the formation of the Profile of Pancasila Students in the Global Diversity dimension among 7th-grade students at Harapan Bangsa Outstanding Junior High School. This research used a qualitative method with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research sample consists of 7th-grade students at Harapan Bangsa Outstanding Junior High School. The research instruments included interview guidelines, observation sheets, and related documents. The data analysis technique used was an interactive descriptive analysis by Miles and Huberman, which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. The results showed that students can better explore, explain, and understand cultural diversity in Indonesia through active and interactive learning. Civics teachers' strategies in shaping the Profile of Pancasila Students with a Global Diversity dimension include jigsaw learning, Snowball Throwing, quizzes, and Pancasila Profile strengthening projects. The implications of this research contribute to the development of more effective and efficient learning to enhance students' ability to understand cultural diversity in Indonesia.

The role of stress mindset and academic buoyancy in school burnout in middle adolescence

ABSTRACT School burnout, defined as prolonged feelings of exhaustion, cynical attitude and inadequacy feelings towards schoolwork, can lead to mental problems during adolescence. To find effective ways to prevent burnout, this study examined the synergistic role of two positive personal resources, a stress-is-enhancing mindset and academic buoyancy in relation to school burnout dimensions. The participants were 932 Finnish middle-school 9th-grade (age = 14–15) students. The results of SEM revealed that academic buoyancy and stress-is-enhancing mindset were jointly negatively related to one dimension of school burnout, cynicism. However, the stress-is-enhancing mindset had an indirect effect on all dimensions (exhaustion, inadequacy and cynicism) via academic buoyancy. The findings highlight their joint effect and especially the role of academic buoyancy in relation to school burnout. The implications of the results to burnout prevention and stress theories are discussed.

Upaya Meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Matematika Siswa Melalui Penerapan Model CORE di MA NW Putra Narmada Tahun Pelajaran 2023/2024

This study was conducted as an effort to enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts through the application of the CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending) model at MA NW Putra Narmada, West Lombok Regency. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) carried out in two cycles with stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research are 34 students from the 10th grade at MA NW Putra Narmada. The research instruments used are observation sheets and test sheets. The data collection techniques employed are testing and observation. The data analysis techniques used are both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The results of this study indicate an improvement in the understanding of mathematical concepts among the 10th grade students of MA NW Putra Narmada after applying the CORE learning model. Test results show an increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts in cycle I to 57% with a sufficient category, while in cycle II, it increased to 95.00% with an excellent category. Observation results show 68% in cycle I with a good category and 96.00% in cycle II with an excellent category.

THE EFFECT OF PjBL-STEM LEARNING MODEL ON STUDENTS’ COGNITIVE SKILL IN MATTER SUBSTANCES AND THEIR CHANGES SUBJECT

The background of this research was the results of the researcher's observations on 8th grade students of SMPN 14 Padang. Based on the results of observations, information was obtained that teachers had previously implemented the PjBL learning model but never had implemented the STEM approach, and teachers had never combined the learning model with the STEM approach. The purpose this research was to examine the effect of the PjBL-STEM learning model on students' cognitive skill regarding substances and their changes subject. The type of research used was Quasi Experimental, design, using a Posttest Control Group Design. This research used two classes, there were experimental and the control class. The experimental class uses the PjBL-STEM learning model, while the control class used a conventional approach learning model. Sampling in this study was carried out using a purposive sampling technique, based on almost the similliary average daily test scores. The instrument of this research were multiple choice test with 20 questions. The results of data analysis show that the cognitive skill of students in the experimental class are higher than those in the control class. The used of the PjBL-STEM learning model makes a good difference in students' cognitive abilities. The results of hypothesis testing based on posttest data obtained from the two sample classes showed that, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, so it can be interpreted that there is a difference in the average cognitive abilities of students in the experimental class and the control class. There is an effect of the application of the PjBL-STEM learning model on the students’ cognitive skill on substance material and its changes subject.

The Use of The Task-Base Language Teaching (TBLT) Method to Improve Learning Outcomes of Arabic Language Skills

This study was prepared with the aim of improving students' learning skills using the Task Base Language Teaching (TBLT) method for class VIII students of MTs Al-Hurriyyah Kutawaluya, Karawang. School year 2023/2024. Improving learning skills referred to in this study are istima' (listening), qira'ah (reading), kalam (speaking), and kitabah (writing) skills. This research is classroom action research (PTK), and its design uses the Kemmis and McTaggart model. This research was carried out salam 2 cycles in the even semester of the 2023/2024 school year, namely in May 2024. The subjects of this study were VIII grade students of MTs Al-Hurriyyah Kutawaluya, consisting of 25 students. Data collection techniques used observation and interviews, and the data were analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of tables and graphs. The results showed an increase in student learning skills, namely in cycle I by 73,25% (good category), then in cycle II, there was an increase, which amounted to 82,79% (very good category), and means that there is an increase; therefore, the use of the task-based language teaching (TBLT) method in Arabic language subjects can improve the learning skills of 8th-grade students of MTs Al-Hurriyyah Kutawaluya. This research supports the development of better Arabic learning strategies in Madrasah. Recommendations for future research: expand the variables and longitudinal design to understand the effects of TBLT in Arabic language teaching.

Enhancing senior high school students' visual imagery creativity in geometry through Geoboard

This study examines innovative learning tools to enhance students' understanding of geometry subjects. The research aims to describe the use of Geoboards in fostering the visual imagery creativity of 12th-grade students in geometry learning. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with subjects consisting of six students selected through purposive sampling. The results show that students with high visual imagery creativity possess good abilities in fluency, diversity, originality, and detail aspects. Students with moderate creativity still require guidance, while students with low creativity experience difficulties and need intensive practice. Using Geoboards has proven effective in enhancing visual imagery creativity, making learning more interesting and meaningful, and facilitating understanding of three-dimensional geometric concepts. The implications of this research suggest that Geoboards can be an effective learning tool in mathematics education.

The Impact of Flipped Classroom Instructional Strategy on 7th Grade Students Reading Comprehension in Jordan: An Empirical Study

The current study investigated the impact of flipped classroom instructional strategy on 7th grade student's reading comprehension in Jordan. A semi-experimental pre-posttest design was used through a sample consisting of (43) female students from the 7th grade selected purposefully. These were randomly assigned into two groups, the experimental group consisted of (23) female students and the control group consisted of (20) female students. The experimental groups were taught through the Flipped Classroom strategy, whereas the control group was taught according to the guidelines and procedures of teaching reading from the teacher's book. The study's results revealed a statistically significant difference between the means scores of students of the experimental and control groups and reading comprehension posttest in favor of the experimental group taught using a flipped classroom. This study may help language students capitalize on simple and interesting technology such as CDs, DVDs, Electronic platforms, and interactive applications for presenting educational materials.
