Pharmaceutical Science - translating innovation for delivery to patients: The 14th APS PharmSci International Conference

The 14th APS PharmSciInternational Conference was held at the University of Reading between the 5thand 7th September 2023. The event attracted 347 delegates with approximately halfbeing from pharmaceutical industry from 23 different companies and academicrepresentatives from 34 different institutions. The conference theme was, “PharmaceuticalScience - translating innovation for delivery to patients”.

Local Stiffness Assessment of Geogrid-Stabilized Unbound Aggregates in a Large-Scale Testbed

This paper integrates and extends an earlier article presented at the 20th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The generation of a stiffened zone in the proximity of a geogrid is one of the primary mechanisms of mechanical stabilization of pavement unbound aggregate layers using geogrids. This paper focuses on the quantification of the stiffened zone through a local stiffness assessment using bender element (BE) sensors. Unbound aggregate base layers were constructed in a large-scale laboratory testbed. Geogrid-stabilized layers had geogrids with different-sized triangular apertures contributing to the geogrid-stiffened zone. Shear wave velocities were measured at three different heights using BE sensors, and the vertical stiffness profiles of the mechanically stabilized aggregate layers were evaluated. In addition, the conversion method between small-strain stiffness and large-strain stiffness was established from the repeated load triaxial tests with BE pairs to transform the vertical stiffness profile into that of the resilient modulus. Furthermore, dynamic cone penetration (DCP) and light-weight deflectometer (LWD) tests were performed at multiple locations into the stabilized and unstabilized unbound aggregates. From the large-scale experimental study, the local stiffness improvement owing to the geogrid enhancement was up to 16.2% in the vicinity of the geogrid location, and the extent of the local stiffened zone evaluated through various test methods was between 15.2 cm (6 in.) and 25.4 cm (10 in.) above the geogrid.

The 2023 4th International Conference on Medical Imaging, Sanitation and Biological Pharmacy (MISBP 2023) was successfully held during November 04-05, 2023 in Osaka, Japan. This conference aims to provide a platform for researchers and engineers to share their ideas, recent developments, and successful practices in medical imaging, sanitation, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, pharmacy, and human health.
 The conference had 4 technical session and 4 poster sessions. Each keynote speech lasted 30-40 minutes, and authors presentation 8-10 minutes. Each presentation was included with questions and answers. MISBP 2023 became an effective communication platform for all the participants over the world. The conference proceeding is a compilation of the accepted papers and represent an interesting outcome of the conference.
 We would like to acknowledge all of those who supported MISBP 2023. Especially we would like to thank the committee members and reviewers for their tremendous contribution in conference organization and peer review of the papers. We are sure that the proceedings will serve as an important research source of references and the knowledge, which will lead to not only scientific and engineering progress but also other new products and processes.

The 2023 4th International Conference on World Economy and Project Management (WEPM 2023) was successfully held from 04 to 05, November, 2023 in Singapore. The 5th International Conference on Management Science and Innovative Education (MSIE 2023) was held from November 25-26, 2023 in Singapore. This conference was sponsored by Research Center of Engineering and Science, and was attended by academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, government agencies and policy-makers, postgraduates from China and all over the world.
 The aim of MSIE 2023 is to provide a platform for educators, scholars, managers and graduate students from different cultural backgrounds to present and discuss research, developments and innovations in the fields of Social Science. It provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration.
 MSIE 2023 has received 87 manuscripts. By submitting a paper to MSIE 2023, the authors agree to the review process and understand that papers undergo a peer-review process. Manuscripts will be reviewed by appropriately qualified experts in the field selected by the Conference Committee, who will give detailed comments and-if the submission gets accepted-the authors submit a revised version that takes into account this feedback. All papers are reviewed using a double-blind review process: authors declare their names and affiliations in the manuscript for the reviewers to see, but reviewers do not know each other's identities, nor do the authors receive information about who has reviewed their manuscript. The Committees of MSIE invest great efforts in reviewing the papers submitted to the conference and organizing the sessions to enable the participants to gain maximum benefit.
 Hopefully, all participants and other interested readers benefit scientifically from the proceedings and also find it stimulating in the process. We look forward to the exciting moments of the 6th International Conference on Management Science and Innovative Education next year.

The Method and Process of the Philosophical Café: Workshop Analysis

The philosophical café method sparked my interest due to its design purpose of bringing back philosophy in contact with the everyday person and by the fact that it is a group practice, entailing the need for people to interact with one another and exchange philosophical ideas in the process. The 17th International Conference of Philosophical Practice held in Timisoara, Romania in 2023 granted me the opportunity to work with this method having as attendants a group of international participants. The workshop I conducted, titled “Experiencing the Café-philo”, revolved around the topic of the possibility of using philosophical counselling as a helping tool in alleviating the consequences technological alienation has on the human being. The first part of the article takes on the task of getting a better understanding of what does the philosophical café method actually mean, by taking a look at the method and practice it implies, as well as trying to determine whether it really implies philosophizing or not. Having had a deeper knowledge of the method we have worked with during the workshop, the second part of the article is meant to be an analysis off the philosophical café process that was undertook during this workshop.

Computer Science for Green Technologies and Sustainable Development: Invited session Report at KES 2023

This report provides an overview of the Invited Session titled "Computer Science for Green Technologies and Sustainable Development", held during the 27th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems from September 6–8, 2023, in Athens, Greece. The session was co-chaired by Adam Sulich and Tomasz Zema, with additional organizational support from Letycja Sołoducho-Pelc. The session requirement was attendance by participants in person. The purpose of this report is to summarize the papers presented and the discussions that took place within the session. Therefore, this paper has a descriptive approach and does not attempt to combine the presented papers.

Neurosurgery and Sport-Related Concussion at the Amsterdam Consensus Meeting

The 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport held in Amsterdam in October 2022 was a scientifically rigorous process that included international experts in sport-related concussion (SRC) from many medical and allied health disciplines. The scientific process included 10 systematic reviews that addressed SRC prevention, diagnosis, management, and potential long-term sequelae. The definition of SRC was revised to include contemporary neurophysiological and neuroimaging findings. Outputs from the meeting included the updated Concussion Recognition Tool 6, Sport Concussion Assessment Tool 6 and Child Sport Concussion Assessment Tool 6, and the introduction of new tools, the Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool 6 and Child Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool 6. The consensus statement included prevention strategies, the importance of physical activity and aerobic exercise in SRC management, rehabilitation strategies, the role of advanced neuroimaging and biomarkers in SRC research, management of retirement issues, analysis of potential long-term effects of SRC, pediatric recommendations, para athlete management, and ethical considerations. This review also discusses the important role of the neurosurgeon in concussion management, research, and advocacy.

Fake News, Misinformation and Privacy: How the COVID-19 Pandemic Changes our Society and How Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies Reduce Their Effects?

This position paper summarizes the panelists’ presentations and discussions at the Panel “Fake News, Misinformation and Privacy: How COVID-19 Pandemic Changed our Society,” held at the 15 th International Conference on Information Resources Management (Conf-IRM 2022) on October 18, 2022. The Panel discussed their views on (i) how to stop the spreading of health misinformation, (ii) how information sources affect online health information behavior, (iii) how news literacy increases people's to seek out information by increasing their skepticism, and (iv) how political beliefs, trust, and privacy concerns affect people's decision during COVID-19. The paper discusses how blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) can help tackle the fake news and misinformation problem.
