Morphological transition of triblock copolymer cylindrical micelles responding to solvent change

Reported is the morphological transition of micelles of a BCA triblock copolymer after the solvation medium was changed from one that was selective for B and A to one that was selective for A only. Here B, C, and A denote poly(tert-butyl acrylate), poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate), and the amine-bearing poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) blocks respectively. In methanol, BCA formed cylindrical micelles with the insoluble C block as the core and the soluble A and B blocks as the corona. Adding water reduced the solubility of the B coronal chains. The micellar morphological evolution was followed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) by analyzing samples, which were taken at different times after water addition to the water volume fractions (fw) of 2.7% and 10.7%, respectively. Also reported are the stabilized morphologies of the micelles formed in methanol/water mixtures with fw ranging from 2.9% to 23%.

Chiral Imprinting of Diblock Copolymer Single-Chain Particles

This Article reports the molecular imprinting of polymer single-chain particles that have a radius ∼3.7 nm. For this, the template L-phenylalanine anilide or L-ΦAA and a diblock copolymer PtBA-b-P(CEMA-r-CA) were used. Here, PtBA denotes poly(tert-butyl acrylate), and P(CEMA-r-CA) denotes a random block consisting of cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate (CEMA) and carboxyl-bearing (CA) units. In CHCl(3)/cyclohexane (CHX) with 64 vol % of CHX or at f(CHX) = 64%, a block-selective solvent for PtBA, PtBA-b-P(CEMA-r-CA) formed spherical micelles. The core consisted of the insoluble P(CEMA-r-CA) block and L-ΦAA, which complexed with the CA groups. Pumping slowly this micellar solution into stirred CHCl(3)/(CHX) at f(CHX) = 64% triggered micelle dissociation into single-chain micelles, which comprised presumably a solubilized PtBA tail and a collapsed P(CEMA-r-CA)/L-ΦAA head. Because the solvent reservoir was under constant UV irradiation, the photo-cross-linkable units in the P(CEMA-r-CA) head cross-linked, and the single-chain micelles were converted into cross-linked single-chain micelles or tadpoles. Synchronizing the micelle addition and photoreaction rates allowed the preparation, from this protocol, of essentially pure tadpoles at high final polymer concentrations. Imprinted tadpoles were procured after L-ΦAA was extracted from the tadpole heads. Under optimized conditions, the produced imprinted tadpoles had exceptionally high binding capacity and high selectivity for L-ΦAA. In addition, the rates of L-ΦAA release from and rebinding by the particles were high.

Water-Dispersible Superparamagnetic Microspheres Adorned with Two Types of Surface Chains

Water-dispersible superparamagnetic polymer/γ-Fe(2)O(3) composite microspheres adorned with two types of surface polymer chains are prepared and characterized. To prepare these spheres, we first synthesize uniform γ-Fe(2)O(3) nanoparticles that are covered by poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(acrylic acid) (PCEMA-b-PAA). These nanoparticles are then mixed with a PCEMA homopolymer in CHCl(3) to form an oil phase. The oil phase is dispersed into water under vigorous stirring with the help of two diblock copolymer surfactants, PGMA-b-PCEMA and PSGMA-b-PCEMA. Here PGMA and PSGMA denote poly(glyceryl monomethacrylate) and succinated PGMA, respectively. Solid microspheres with cores composed of PCEMA and PCEMA-b-PAA-covered γ-Fe(2)O(3) nanoparticles are obtained after CHCl(3) evaporation and PCEMA photo-cross-linking. Under certain conditions, the coronal PGMA and PSGMA chains become segregated, thus producing surface bumps, ridges, and valleys. The PSGMA chains preferentially cover the protruding regions. The PSGMA carboxyl groups are used to immobilize bovine serum albumin (BSA). The immobilized BSA retains its activity and binds with anti-BSA. These spheres should be useful in immunoassays.

Wrapping amino-bearing block copolymer cylinders around carboxyl-bearing nanofibers: a case of hierarchical assembly

Poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(tert-butyl acrylate) (PCEMA-b-PtBA) formed cylindrical micelles in methanol, a selective solvent for PtBA. Photo-crosslinking the PCEMA core yielded structurally stable nanofibers. Hydrolyzing the coronal PtBA chains then produced nanofibers bearing surface carboxyl groups. Poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-block-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(N,N-dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate) (PtBA-b-PCEMA-b-PDMAEMA) self-assembled into cylindrical micelles in methanol, a block-selective solvent for the terminal PtBA and PDMAEMA blocks. These micelles, with either crosslinked or non-crosslinked PCEMA cores, form the amino-bearing nanocylinders. This paper reports the wrapping of the nanocylinders around the nanofibers to form solvent-dispersible composite “nanoropes”, when the two nanostructures were mixed at appropriate mass ratios. Also reported is the chain rearrangement of the slightly crosslinked nanocylinders on the nanofiber surfaces to eventually yield multilayered composite cylinders.

New cinnamate group-containing copolymers for a self-curable, humidity-sensitive polyelectrolyte and polymeric anchoring agents were prepared by copolymerization of [2-[(methacryloyloxy) ethyl]dimethyl]propyl ammonium bromide(MEPAB), methyl methacrylate(MMA), 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate(TMSPM) and 2-(cinnamoyloxy)ethyl methacrylate(CEMA). Photocrosslinkable copolymer composed of MEPAB/MMA/TMSPM/CEMA＝70/20/0/10 were used for humidity-sensitive membrane, and those of 50/0/20/30 and 0/0/50/50 were used for polymeric anchoring agents. 3- (Triethoxysilyl)propyl cinnamate(TESPC) was also used as a surface-pretreating agent for the comparison of capability of attachment of polyelectrolyte to the electrode surface with polymeric photocurable silanecoupling agents. Pretreatment of the electrode substrate with anchoring agents was performed to form a cinnamate thin film on the electrode through covalent bonds. When the sensors were irradiated with UV light, the anchoring of a polyelectrolyte into the substrate was carried out via the [2+2] cycloaddition. The resulting sensors using polymeric anchoring agents and TESPC showed water durability with increase of resistance by 60~85%, which is corresponding to the reduction of 2.25~3.15%RH, after soaking in water for 24 h. They showed good hysteresis (-0.2%RH), response time (90 sec) and long-term stability at high temperature and humidity.

Viscometric Study of Poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)

Six poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate) (PCEMA) samples with low polydispersity indices were derived from precursors prepared by anionic polymerization. Their intrinsic viscosities were determined in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and chloroform at 25 °C and in p-xylene between 55 and 82 °C. The data were treated to yield the Mark−Houwink−Sakurada parameters K and a. The a values suggested that THF and chloroform were good solvents for PCEMA at room temperature. The intrinsic viscosity data obtained in p-xylene were also analyzed by the Burchard−Stockmayer−Fixman method. Both the a values and the results of data treatment by the Burchard−Stockmayer−Fixman method suggest that p-xylene was a theta solvent for PCEMA at 60 °C. Using the K value at the theta temperature, we determined for PCEMA a characteristic ratio of 12.6, which is the ratio between its mean-square end-to-end distance in a theta solvent and that of a random flight chain.

Triblock terpolymer helices self-assembled under special solvation conditions

We recently reported an accidental discovery that a linear triblock terpolymer, poly(butyl methacrylate)-block-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(tert-butyl acrylate) (B350C160T160, with the subscripts denoting the numbers of repeat units for the different blocks), self-assembled into double, and sometimes triple, helices in three binary solvent mixtures that were marginal for the B350 block, poor for the C160 block, and good for the T160 block. We show in this paper that double helices were formed as a self-assembly product from B350C160T160 in another three solvent mixtures. Also, a triple-stranded superstructure bearing helical sections was prepared from a new BnCmTl sample, which was B240C120T120. In addition, we have replaced some of the cinnamoyl groups of the C120 block with three types of chiral groups. Multi-stranded superstructures bearing helical sections were produced in every case when the solvents met the special solvation conditions. The partial or full hydrolysis of the T160 and T120 blocks of the two terpolymers yielded acrylic acid bearing blocks and represented the largest structural change from the original terpolymers. Interestingly, these polymers formed helices as well. These helices were double-stranded and had regular pitch lengths. These new results suggest that the use of the special solvation conditions may represent a general paradigm for the production of helices from different triblock terpolymers.

Polycinnamates and Block Co-polymers Prepared by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization and Microwave Irradiation

Homo-polymers of 2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate (PCEMA) and block co-polymers with methyl-methacrylate (MMA) synthesized via copper(I)bromide/pentamethyldiethylentriamine-mediated atom transfer polymerization (ATRP) and microwave irradiation, under homo(co)polymerization conditions, are reported. Method 1 led to homo-polymers with relatively low molecular weight (PCEMA-1: 5100; PCEMA-2: 25 000), while the second method offered polymer of 100 000 average molecular weight (PCEMA-3), the polymerization being completed within 60 min. Two di-block co-polymers, poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate-block-poly(methyl methacrylate)) ((PCEMA-b-PMMA)-1, (PCEMA-b-PMMA)-2) with 0.33 and, respectively, 0.5 molar fraction of photo-cross-linkable PCEMA were also prepared and utilized for this study. Subsequent gel-permeation chromatography (GPC) measurements on block co-polymers have indicated molecular weights of 24 000 and 45 700, respectively. In addition, structural characteristics for all photo-polymers were determined by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, AFM and SEM/ESEM measurements. Photochemistry in thin polymeric films suggested that UV irradiation is accompanied by an insolubilization of the film caused by the transformation of cinnamate moieties and the formation of intermolecular cross-links, with important effects on the morphology. As expected, it was found that by electrospinning the above photo-polymers produced electrospun fibers of small diameter.

Swelling and network parameters of crosslinked porous octadecyl acrylate copolymers as oil spill sorbers

AbstractIn previous work crosslinked copolymers were prepared from cinnamoyloxy ethyl methacrylate (CEMA) and several monomers feed ratios of octadecyl acrylate (ODA). Networks so produced are both flexible and porous; we now report their swelling efficacies as a function of temperature in toluene and in crude petroleum. Network characteristics is presented including the polymer + solvent interaction parameter χ, effective crosslink density υe, equilibrium modulus of elasticity E, average molecular weight between crosslinks Mc and the theoretical crosslink density υt. These parameters are correlated with structures of the synthesized sorbers.

Macrocycles from the Photochemical Coupling of Preassociated Terminal Blocks of Block Copolymers

Cyclization of long polymer chains is difficult because polymer chain ends have a low probability to contact one another and intramolecular cyclization has to compete with interchain coupling. To minimize intermolecular coupling, macrocycles are prepared traditionally under high dilution conditions, which limit the amount of polymer obtainable per volume of solvent. Reported in this paper is a new methodology for synthesizing polymer macrocycles. Instead of using polymers with one pair of reactive groups at the ends of a polymer chain, we use a block copolymer, poly[(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-ran-(2-trifluoroacetoxyethyl methacrylate)]-block-poly(solketal methacrylate)-block-poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-block-poly(solketal methacrylate)-block-poly[(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-ran-(2-trifluoroacetoxyethyl methacrylate)] or P(CEMA-r-TFAEMA)-b-PSMA-b-PtBA-b-PSMA-b-P(CEMA-r-TFAEMA), with reactive P(CEMA-r-TFAEMA) end blocks to increase the efficiency of end coupling. In our method, a micellar solution is first prepared in a solvent selectively poor for the end CEMA units. This micellar solution is then slowly pumped into a solvent reservoir or reactor under constant stirring and irradiation. In the reactor, where the polymer concentration remains low throughout the preparation for its conversion into macrocycles, the micelles dissociate quickly into end-associated rings or unimolecular micelles, and the rings then get covalently linked photochemically. Since the TFAEMA units in the end blocks are soluble in the solvent used and probably segregate preferentially on the surface of the “balls” formed from the aggregation of the end CEMA units, they help deter the chemical coupling of different macrocycles. Using this methodology, we can prepare large macrocycles in high purity and at high concentrations.

Preparation of intermediary layer crosslinked micelles from a photocrosslinkable amphiphilic ABC triblock copolymer

To prepare intermediary layer crosslinked micelles, a photocrosslinkable amphiphilic ABC triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)- b-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)- b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PEG–PCEMA–PMMA), was synthesized and its micellar characteristics were investigated. The triblock copolymer of PEG- b-poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)- b-PMMA (PEG–PHEMA–PMMA) ( M n = 9800 g/mol, M w/ M n = 1.33) was first polymerized by activators generated by electron transfer (AGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using a PEG macroinitiator in a mixed solvent of anisole/2-isopropanol (3/1 v/v). The middle block of the copolymer was then functionalized with cinnamoyl chloride. The degrees of polymerization of the PEG, PHEMA, and PMMA blocks were 113, 18 and 21, respectively. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the PEG–PCEMA–PMMA was 0.011 mg/mL. The PEG–PCEMA–PMMA micelles were spherically shaped with an average diameter of 43 nm. The intermediary layer of the PEG–PCEMA–PMMA micelles was crosslinked by UV irradiation. Not all of the cinnamate groups underwent photocrosslinking probably due to a lack of other cinnamate groups in their immediate vicinity. However, the degree of photocrosslinking of the intermediary layer of the PEG–PCEMA–PMMA micelles was sufficient to give excellent colloidal stability, even in different external environments.

Coating and Structural Locking of Dipolar Chains of Cobalt Nanoparticles

Above a critical size, Co nanoparticles aggregate because of magnetic dipole-dipole interaction into chains. Reported in this paper is the coating of such chains by an AB diblock copolymer in a block-selective solvent for the A block. Also reported is the cross-linking of the deposited or anchored B block of the diblock copolymer to lock in the coating and thus the dipolar chain structure. The Co nanoparticles used were prepared from the high-temperature decomposition of Co(2)(CO)(8) using poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(acrylic acid) or PCEMA-b-PAA as surfactant. To coat the dipolar chains, the particles and diblock copolymer poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-block-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate), PtBA-b-PCEMA, were dispersed in a good solvent for PCEMA and PtBA. Methanol, a precipitant for PCEMA and a good solvent for PtBA, was then added. This induced the collapsing of the PCEMA blocks and the deposition of the PCEMA block of PtBA-b-PCEMA onto the surface of PCEMA-b-PAA-coated Co nanoparticle chains. The dipolar chains remained colloidally stable in solution for steric stabilization provided by PtBA. The coating was cured by photocrosslinking the PCEMA layer. Such "permanent" and solvent-dispersible Co dipolar chains are novel and may have interesting applications.

ABC Triblock Copolymer Micelle-Like Aggregates in Selective Solvents for A and C

Interesting self-assembly behavior of an ABC triblock copolymer in selective solvents for the terminal A and C blocks is reported. The triblock copolymer consists of poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-block-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(glyceryl monomethacrylate) or PtBA-b-PCEMA-b-PGMA, with 107 tBA units, 193 CEMA units, and 115 GMA units. The solvents used are pyridine/methanol with methanol volume fraction fMeOH between 80 and 100%. While pyridine is a good solvent for all of the three blocks, methanol is selective for PtBA and PGMA. At fMeOH = 80% and fMeOH = 90% and at 50 °C, spherical and cylindrical micelles with PtBA and PGMA coronal chains are formed. At fMeOH = 95%, vesicles are formed. Grafted on the outer surface of the vesicles are mostly the PGMA chains and some PtBA chains. The PtBA chains are found by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy to segregate from the PGMA chains to form circular patches. At fMeOH = 100%, tubular micelle-like aggregates (MAs) coexisted with vesicular MAs. While there have been many reports on morphologies of block copolymer MAs, reports on MAs of ABC triblock copolymers in selective solvents for A and C are rare. Also, there have been very few reports on tubular MAs and MAs with segregated surface chains. These combinations make results of this study unique.

Twisted ABC Triblock Copolymer Cylinders with Segregated A and C Coronal Chains

The formation of twisted cylinders with segregated A and C coronal chains from an ABC triblock copolymer in a block-selective solvent for the A and C blocks is reported. Such cylinders consisted of left- and right-handed helical sections (3D twisting) connected by wriggling (2D twisting) sections after aspiration on a solid substrate. The copolymer used was poly(glyceryl monomethacrylate)-block-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(tert-butyl acrylate) or PGMA-b-PCEMA-b-PtBA consisting of 310 PGMA units, 130 CEMA units, and 110 tBA units. Twisted cylinders were prepared from the dialysis of an aqueous solution of the triblock copolymer against methanol. In water, the copolymer formed core−shell−corona cylinders with the insoluble PtBA and PCEMA blocks making up the core and shell and the soluble PGMA block making up the corona. Tadpoles from the Intramolecular Photo-Cross-Linking of Diblock Copolymers

Preparation of tadpoles or globule−coil diblock copolymers from three coil−coil diblock copolymers is reported. The coil−coil copolymers consist of one poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-block-poly(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate) or PtBA-b-PCEMA sample and two PtBA-b-P(CEMA-ran-hCEMA) samples. Here P(CEMA-ran-hCEMA) denotes poly[(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)-ran-(2-hydrocinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)]. The tadpoles are prepared by photo-cross-linking the PCEMA or P(CEMA-ran-hCEMA) blocks intramolecularly. Intramolecular cross-linking competes with intermolecular cross-linking. The former is encouraged by adding a diblock copolymer solution at a low pumping speed into a solvent under constant UV irradiation and stirring. The irradiation ensures that the newly added copolymer is immediately converted into tadpoles. The slow copolymer addition ensures that the copolymer concentration in the photoreactor remains low throughout the photolysis process. Factors affecting the purity, yield, and compactness of the tadpoles produced are examined.

Synthesis and characterization of oil sorbers based on docosanyl acrylate and methacrylates copolymers

AbstractDocosanyl acrylate (DCA) monomer was copolymerized with different monomer feed ratios of cinnamoyloxy ethyl methacrylate (CEMA) or methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer to produce different compositions for DCA/CEMA or DCA/MMA copolymer with low conversions.1H NMR spectroscopy was used to confirm the copolymer structure. DCA was crosslinked with different mol % of CEMA or MMA using dibenzoyl peroxide as initiator and various weight percentages of either 1,1,1‐trimethylolpropane triacrylates or 1,1,1‐trimethylolpropane trimethacrylates crosslinkers. The effects of monomer feed composition, crosslinker concentration, and the hydrophobicity of the copolymer units on swelling properties of the crosslinked polymers were studied through the oil absorbency tests. The network parameters, such as polymer solvent interaction (χ), effective crosslink density (υe), equilibrium modulus of elasticity (GT), and average molecular weight between crosslinks (Mc), were determined and correlated with the structure of the synthesized copolymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(Cinnamoyloxy Ethyl Methacrylate-Co-Octadecyl Acrylate) as Flow Improver for Egyptian Waxy Crude Oils

The octadecyl acrylate–cinnamoyloxy ethyl methacrylate linear copolymers (CEMA-ODA) were designed to be applied as pour point depressants. The preparation scheme involved synthesis of cinnamoyloxy ethyl methacrylate (CEMA) monomer and then copolymerization with octadecyl acrylate (ODA) at different molar ratios in the feedstock. The efficiency of these copolymers to depress pour points and rheological characteristics for waxy crude oils using different concentrations of CEMA-ODA additives were studied. It was observed that the synthesized copolymers showed nonNewtonian pseudoplastic relationships at different concentrations of synthesized additives. CEMA-ODA copolymer with molar ratio 1:3 has good ability to disperse wax crystals and improve the flow behavior of tested crude oils even at temperatures below their pour points. The results showed that there is a good correlation between viscosity measurements and pour point characteristics.

Preparation and Quencher Diffusion Study of Pyrene-Tagged Water-Dispersible ABC Triblock Nanospheres

A poly(glyceryl methacrylate)-block-poly[(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-ran-(2-cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)]-block-poly[(tert-butyl acrylate)-ran-(acrylic acid)-ran-(pyrenemethyl acrylamide)] or PGMA−P(HEMA−CEMA)−P(tBA−AA−Py) sample and a PGAM−PCEMA−P(tBA−AA−Py) sample were synthesized. Spherical micelles were prepared from the triblocks in water with a soluble PGMA corona, an insoluble P(HEMA−CEMA) or PCEMA shell, and an insoluble P(tBA−AA−Py) core. Photocrosslinking the P(HEMA−CEMA) or PCEMA layer yielded nanospheres. Driving I- into the P(tBA−AA−Py) core led to pyrene fluorescence quenching. The decrease in pyrene fluorescence intensity as a function of time after quencher addition was used to examine how the rate of I- diffusion changed with variations in the degree of CEMA crosslinking, in the degree of tBA hydrolysis in the core, and with addition of the plasticizer tetrahydrofuran into water.

Swelling and Network Parameters of Oil Sorbers Based on Alkyl Acrylates and Cinnamoyloxy Ethyl Methacrylate Copolymers

Cinnamoyloxy ethyl methacrylate (CEMA) monomer was copolymerized with different monomer feed ratios of alkyl acrylate, such as dodecyl and octadecyl acrylate DDA and ODA, respectively. The monomers were copolymerized with different mole% to produce different compositions for each CEMA/alkylacrylate copolymer with low conversion. 1HNMR was used to determine the copolymer compositions. The monomer reactivity ratios of each CEMA/alkylacrylate copolymer were determined using Fineman-Ross and Kelen-Tudos methods. CEMA was copolymerized with DDA or ODA and crosslinked using azobis isobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator and 1% weight content of either 1,1,1-trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TPT) or 1,1,1-trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TPTm) crosslinkers. The swelling parameters, such as the maximum oil absorbency (Qmax), characteristic oil sorbency (Q), characteristic swelling time (T), and swelling rate constant (k), were evaluated for the synthesized sorbers. The network parameters, such as the polymer solvent interaction (χ), effective crosslink density (υe), equilibrium modulus of elasticity (GT), average molecular weight between crosslinks (Mc), and the theoretical crosslink density (υt), were determined and correlated with the structure of the synthesized sorbers.

Crosslinked reactive macromonomers based on polyisobutylene and octadecyl acrylate copolymers as crude oil sorbers

Cinnamoyl chloride was condensed with different glycols to produce five different of hydroxyalkyloxy cinnamate esters. Each cinnamate ester was reacted with polyisobutylene–succinic anhydride adduct to produce five different reactive macromonomers. The synthesized macromonomers were characterized by FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopic analyses. These macromonomers were copolymerized with octadecyl acrylate (ODA) at 1, 2 and 4 wt% of trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TPT) crosslinker in presence of benzoyl peroxide as initiator and cobalt octoate as activator. Copolymerization of a cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate (CEMA) with octadecyl acrylate (ODA) was prepared by bulk polymerization in presence of ABIN initiator and TPT crosslinker. The crosslinked copolymers were evaluated for oil-absorbency application. The effect of monomer feed composition; crosslinker wt% and type of oil on swelling properties of crosslinked polymers were studied through the oil absorption tests. The network parameters, such as polymer solvent interaction ( χ), effective crosslink density ( ν e), equilibrium moduli of elasticity ( G T), average molecular weight between crosslinks ( M c) and theoretical crosslink density ( ν t) were determined and correlated with the structure of the synthesized sorbers. The values of crosslinking efficiency ( β) and the efficiency of copolymer to form physical crosslinks ( α) are also computed and discussed.
