AbstractThe electric quadrupole hyperfine interactions for 181Hf/181Ta probes in polycrystalline ZrAg and Zr2Ag were measured in the temperature range 24–1100 K and compared with the results of previous experiments on isostructural Hf–Ag compounds. For both phases one unique quadrupole frequency νQ with asymmetry parameter η = 0 was observed in accordance with the B11 and C11b structures of the ZrAg and Zr2Ag phases, respectively. On the basis of the chemical similarities of Zr and Hf, the 181Hf probes can be considered as the constituent atoms in Zr–Ag alloys. In both matrices they were found to substitute the Zr site.
