The year 2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the passing of Prof. Kazimierz Zając, the long-standing head of the Department of Statistics and later the director of the Institute of Statistics, Econometrics and Computer Science at Krakow University of Economics, while 2023 marked the 10th year of the passing of Prof. Zdzisław Hellwig, the long-standing head of the Department of Statistics and director of the Institute of Economic Cybernetics at Wroclaw University of Economics. Both professors were the scientific leaders of statistical centres at the above-mentioned universities. The aim of the article is to present the contribution of Polish statisticians to the development of the theoretical foundations and empirical research in the field of numerical taxonomy and methods of data classification and analysis. Particular emphasis is placed on the achievements of Professor Zając and Professor Hellwig and their students and associates. According to the authors of this work, recalling the achievements of these scholars is especially important as most commonly cited sources on data classification and analysis are mainly English-language.

In 2006, the family archive of the classic of Russian literature of the twentieth century, A.P. Platonov, was submitted for state storage. The article describes the stages of the scientific research of the extremely rich archive; outlines a wide spectrum of textological and text-source issues in the study of the heritage; presents the main projects and guidelines of the scientific group at the IWL RAS, which is working on the first scientific Collected Works of the writer and its satellite writings.

REM sleep and mental disorders on the 70th anniversary of the discovery of REM sleep.

The discovery of rapid eye movement sleep in 1953 led to numerous studies investigating the relationship between rapid eye movement sleep abnormalities and psychiatric disorders. The most salient findings were the association of rapid eye movement sleep alterations-reduced rapid eye movement sleep latency, increased rapid eye movement sleep volume of total sleep, and increased rapid eye movement density-with major depression. This paper briefly reviews the history of rapid eye movement sleep research in psychiatry with a focus on the work related to major depressive disorder and some of the various theories that have been proposed to explain the associated rapid eye movement sleep abnormalities. Given the increasing evidence that rapid eye movement sleep is important for emotional processing, memory and cognition, a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms for the relationship between rapid eye movement sleep and mood disorders could lead to improved treatments for these common and disabling illnesses.

On the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of the Famous Morphologist and Teacher Petr Fedorovich Stepanov

The article is devoted to a major Soviet and Russian anatomist, Professor Petr Fedorovich Stepanov. He organized and headed the Department of Human Anatomy in Chita, then Smolensk, was a leading anatomist in the field of anatomy of the nervous system, a wonderful teacher, a kind, responsive and principled person with an active lifestyle.

Not to Betray Anatomy (Devoted to the 70th Anniversary of Professor A. K. Usovich)

In August 2024, Professor A.K. Usovich, the famous Belarusian morphologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Human Anatomy, Vitebsk State Medical University, turned to be 70 years old. Alexander Konstantinovich was born on August 27, 1954 in the village Ushachi, Vitebsk region. In 1977, he graduated from the Vitebsk State Medical Institute, where he worked his way up from a senior laboratory assistant to the head of the Department of Human Anatomy, which he led for 21 years. A.K. Usovich is a member of the Coordinating Council of the International Association of Morphologists, a member of the Board of the Belarusian Association of Morphologists. Professor A.K. Usovich focused on the improvement of anatomical techniques, structural organization and interstitial relationships in the prostate at the stage of ontogenesis, variant anatomy of the lymphoid, vascular, nervous systems, morphohistochemical changes in the structures of the visual, vestibular and auditory sensory systems in case of blood flow disorders, improving the educational process at the departments of the morphological profile. He trained 5 candidates and 7 masters. For his services to higher education, Professor A.K. Usovich was awarded the "Excellent Healthcare Worker" badge, honorary certificates, diplomas of the Ministries and Departments of the USSR, BSSR, the Republic of Belarus, regional legislative and executive authorities, universities of the CIS countries.

Policy Feedbacks and Medicaid on its 60th Anniversary.

Despite early skepticism about Medicaid's ability to withstand retrenchment as a program of "welfare medicine," it has proved remarkably durable. Existing analyses explain durability with a policy feedbacks perspective - how program provisions affect the subsequent political environment and policymaking options. This article updates earlier feedback accounts to the ACA era. Examines extant findings on policy feedbacks in Medicaid at the elite and mass levels since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act of 2010. Mass feedbacks have been modest. Medicaid expansion under the ACA only slightly increased beneficiary political participation, if at all. Medicaid attitudes among beneficiaries and the larger public have become somewhat more supportive. Elite-level feedbacks are the most powerful, with the federal contribution, increased for expansion populations under the ACA, inexorably shaping state incentives. However, continued rejection of Medicaid expansion and attempts to add conditions to Medicaid eligibility in Republican-led states with large shares of Black residents demonstrate that federalism, race, and the program's welfare medicine image continue to threaten the program. Medicaid survives as the nation's largest health insurance program by enrollment, and is deeply woven into the health care system, but remains chronically vulnerable and variable across states despite robust aggregate enrollment and spending.

Academician Dmitrii Arkad'evich Zhdanov: Personality and Time

The article, devoted to the 100th anniversary of D.A. Zhdanov'sadmission to the medical faculty of the Voronezh State University, is dedicated to the creativity and scientific research of this outstanding anatomist, the founder of Russian lymphology. Five main periods of the scientist's life are considered - Voronezh, Gorky, Tomsk, Leningrad and Moscow - presented in the context of historical events and legislative changes in the field of education and science that took place in the 20th century in the RSFSR. The article uses previously unpublished archival materials that help to better understand the personality traits of D.A. Zhdanov.

Think Human: exploring the exhibition of ergonomics to enhance education and engagement: establishing the CIEHF 75th anniversary exhibition

The field of ergonomics and human factors (E/HF) has an urgent need for increased uptake of specialists to meet the growing demands of the sector and related industries employing ergonomists. In the absence of E/HF being part of the school curriculum, one way of achieving this is through public engagement activities. Specialists in E/HF are motivated by understanding people and interactions, inherent qualities in outreach and engagement, so we are well placed to practice what we preach by understanding our own users, the consumers of our science. In this paper, we present a curriculum map and museum exhibition model as part of ongoing work to develop a public exhibition, called ‘Think Human’, hosted at the Museum of Making in Derby, England, from September 2024, as part of ongoing work in timely celebration of the 75th anniversary of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).

Vasil Yakovych Yuriev: Life and scientific heritage (on the 150th anniversary of his birth)

The article discusses the main stages of life and scientific activities of the renowned and respected academician-breeder Vasyl Yakovych Yuriev. His name is inextricably linked with the activities of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Plant Breeding, Selection, and Genetics (now Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine). It is shown that in his scientific work, Vasyl Yakovych paid special attention to the collection of initial material, the selection of parental forms for crossing, developed methods for testing hybrids and varieties at different stages of the selection process, and demonstrated the advantages of the method of selecting pure lines from local wheat populations compared to the ineffective method of mass selection. Based on this method, under his leadership, many high-yielding valuable varieties of winter and spring wheat, rye, millet, barley, and corn were developed. To study the patterns of inheritance of important valuable traits in wheat, V. Ya. Yuriev used intervarietal and interspecies crosses of the diallel type. Many studies have been conducted in the field of breeding varieties for disease and pest resistance and immunity. In recognition of his scientific achievements, the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine established the Vasyl Yakovych Yuriev Prize, which is awarded for the highest achievements in the field of selection and genetics.

Organizer of biological science: to the 100th anniversary of P. A. Lehr’s birth

2023 marks the 100th anniversary of Pavel Andreyevich Lehr’s birth (09.27.1923–09.15.2005). He was an outstanding Soviet scientist, a leading expert on dipteran insects, a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, director of the Institute of Biology and Soil Science of the Far Eastern Scientifi c Center/Far Eastern Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences during 1981–1991. The article highlights the contribution of P. A. Lehr to the organization and development of biological research in the Far Eastern region between 1988 and 1991, when he was deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Far Eastern Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. At the same time, Lehr led a temporary creative team to develop the Environmental Program of Primorsky Krai, which he managed to bring to completion and offi cial approval during the collapse of the USSR. Unique documents from the Archive of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the personal archive of the author are presented.

The concept of spirituality in V. Ptushkin’s compositional, particularly piano creativity: on the 75th anniversary of the Master

The relevance of the article conditioned by the modern immediacy of the problem of maintenance of spiritual values, by the necessity of the research of regional features of composer’s schools and specifics of embodiment of spiritual instructions in V. Ptushkin’s compositional, particularly piano creativity, that hasn’t got an exhaustive coverage in modern national musicology. The purpose of the article is to highlight the specifics of the concept of spirituality as the worldview and axiological center of V. Ptushkin’s compositional, particularly piano creativity. The methodology of the article is based on comparative, historical-typological, interpretative method, methods of generalization, stylistic and genre analysis. The results. The article highlights the concept of spirituality, represented as a concentrated reflection of the humanistic orientation of V. Ptushkin’s compositional, particularly piano creativity and a means of affirming spiritual values in a dialogue with the spiritual experience of mankind, appeals to the signs of cultural eras, genre model of the past — requiem, choral, spiritual cantata, concerto grosso, in the reproduction of eternally relevant images and themes — symbols of spirituality, in particular the image of Virgin Mary as the ideal of humanity’s existence and the positioning of the sublime and the earthly as the poles of worldview and human existence. It is revealed that the specificity of the embodiment of the concept of spirituality in the work for two pianos “The Sublime and the Earthly” is related to: understanding its significance through the prism of comparing personal and universal principles and allusions to the signs of the Renaissance, Classicism, romanticism; resonance with worldview guidelines of the culture of the border of XX–XXI centuries; functional mobility; the variability of performing teams; compositional and structural abnormality. The global significance of the concept of spirituality is imprinted in the work on the following levels: texture — in large-scale vertical chords, chronotope and dynamics — in powerful orchestral sonority, tonal organization — in the affirmation of major constructions, genre — in the movement from lyrical, individualized elegy to anthem as a reflection of the human unity. The scientific novelty of the article is due to the substantiation of the concept of spirituality as a worldview basis of V. Ptushkin’s work and the study of the peculiarities of its embodiment, in particular in the play «The Sublime and the Earthly». The practical significance of the article is determined by the possibility of using the results of the study in performing and pedagogical practice.

Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Unitatis Redintegratio, a text expressing the ecumenical dimension of the entire Second Vatican Council, we propose a rereading of Paul Tillich's work, Dynamics of Faith. Although relatively unknown, this work remains inspiring and pertinent to the theme of restoring Christian unity, as well as to the ecclesial and social challenges of ecumenical dialogue and practice in the contemporary world. Firstly, we present Tillich's formal definition of faith as the "ultimate concern" of existence, aiming to embrace the constitutive aspects of the act of believing and thus allow for a greater scope and macro-ecumenical dialogue. Secondly, we highlight how Tillich defends the symbolic nature of faith before characterizing specific religious symbols. Thirdly, we show that the Lutheran theologian proposes a typology of faith, positioned between presence and becoming. Fourthly, we tackle the question of the truth of faith and its criteria. Finally, we conclude with Tillich reaffirming the experience of faith in its relation to life.

60 anos do Decreto Unitatis Redintegratio

In the celebratory milestone of the 60th anniversary of the promulgation of the Unitatis Redintegratio Decree on Ecumenism from the Second Vatican Council, this article aims to present an assessment and some theological-pastoral keys for a prospective and heuristic re-reading of the contemporary challenges of ecumenism in light of ecclesiology - the Church as the People of God, going forth to the peripheries and engaging in synodal conversion - and the creative magisterium of Pope Francis. Driven by the liberating heuristic method of João Batista Libanio, the reflection outlined here is organized into three parts. In the first part, a brief reading and assessment of this important conciliar decree are presented. In the second part, some theological-pastoral keys of ecclesiology and the magisterium of Pope Francis are listed, in light of the challenges and urgencies of ecumenism in the current context. In the third part, some suggestions are made for us to take steps together towards growth and realization of ecumenism.

La pertinencia del Ensayo sobre el don de Marcel Mauss

2022 marked the 150th anniversary of Marcel Mauss's birth. Along with him, his work is recognized as a source and inspiration for countless contemporary anthropological works. His writings favored multiple theoretical currents and influenced dozens of anthropologists: from the structuralism of Levi Strauss to Marcel Griaule, Maurice Leenhardt, Louis Dumont and Roger Bastide, among others. In a modern world characterized by the economic logic of the market, interest, consumption and profit, a revision of Mauss' work, such as the one carried out by Alain Caillé's Movement Anti-utilitarianism in Social Sciences (MAUSS) (2000), can mean significant rediscoveries in contemporary societies of other hidden logics involving reciprocities driven by the symbolic.
