The preface to the special issue of Int. J. Mod. Phys. D “New trends in Cosmology, Particle Physics and Astrophysics” briefly reviews some new ideas in the development of Modern Astrophysics, Cosmology, Particle and Astroparticle Physics inspired by discussions at the Sixth International Conference on Particle Physics and Astrophysics (ICPPA2022).

A situated analysis of research publication evaluation in Latin countries based on a pluriversal approach

The global knowledge ecosystem is affected by ethnocentrism and witnesses Western monopolies of knowledge that have built hegemonic structures and narratives, especially in scientific and academic publishing. For the design field, the paper proposes a transition from processes of power and control over knowledge to processes of distributed knowledge leadership among the stakeholders of the publishing system (journals, conferences, scientific associations and societies, academic networks). It analyses the publishing ecosystem of Latin American countries as a case study representative of Global South knowledge that is ‘decentring’ scientific design publishing. By problematizing pluriversity, it proposes a practical frameworkon international collaboration, informed evaluation, and distributed processes to promote equity and accessibility. The 8th International Forum of Design as a Process serves as a testbed, showcasing community-led knowledge experimentation targeting the Global South countries. The case study highlights the potential to re-evaluate established structures for more pluriversal design knowledge.

Preface: 6th International Conference on Information Science and Electronic Technology (ISET 2024)

We are pleased to announce that the 2024 6th International Conference on Information Science and Electronic Technology (ISET 2024) was successfully held in Venice, Italy during September 07-08, 2024. The objective of this conference is to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, academicians as well as industrial professionals from all over the world to present their research results and development activities in information science, computer applications, mechatronics, electrical engineering, and electronic technology. This conference provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations, and to find global partners for future collaboration. There were over 50 participants attended ISET 2024. During the conference, the conference model was divided into three sessions, including oral presentations, keynote speeches, and Q&A discussion. Their insightful speeches had triggered heated discussion in the conference. Every participant praised this conference for disseminating useful and insightful knowledge. We would like to acknowledge all of those who have supported ISET 2024. Each individual and institutional help were very important for the success of this conference. Symposium Highlight: PULMONARY LYMPHATICS HISTORY, ANATOMY, AND PATHOPHYSIOLOGY: EMERGING KNOWLEDGE AND A LOOK TO THE FUTURE

Central lymphatic disorders of the lung have not received intense investigation. Lymphatic system physiology is presented in the context of historical developments and basic lung lymphatic anatomy is reviewed followed by emerging characteristics of primary and secondary pathophysiological disturbances of lymphatic involvement in a number of pulmonary diseases including Gorham-Stout disease, pulmonary edema and infections and inflammatory conditions including lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). The future includes potential molecular targeting of lymphangiogenesis or lymphatic vessels for interventional occlusion. This article is an amalgamation of presentations at the 2023 ISL International Congress of Lymphology, Genoa, Italy in a special symposium on central and regional lymphatic system in health and disease and as part of a Special Symposium on the Lymphatic system of the Heart and Lung in Health and Disease at the 26th International Congress of Lymphology meeting held in Barcelona, Spain, September 2017, which has been updated to 2024.

7th ERL Conference Links between Beliefs and Language held at the heart of Europe, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – a report

On 27-28 June 2024, the Association for the Educational Role of Language organized the 7th International Pedagogic and Linguistic Conference entitled Links between Beliefs and Language. The conference was held at International University of Sarajevo (IUS) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the English Language and Literature program. Around 50 scholars presented 38 topics and discussed links between beliefs and language through sociolinguistic, cultural, literary, semantic, instructional, personal, interpersonal and inter-linguistic lenses. The Conference was a unique event that brought together participants from different countries: Poland, Georgia, Estonia, United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Italy, Oman, Spain, Bulgaria, Norway, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Romania and Ukraine. The importance of this scientific and academic event was recognized by the local government, with the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton granting funds and supporting the Conference. Recent advances in the study of serpentine plants and ecosystems: Perspectives from the 10th International Conference on Serpentine Ecology, France: Part II

AbstractThe 10th International Conference on Serpentine Ecology was held in Nancy, France on June 12–16, 2023. The main goals of the conference were to create a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences and to promote scientific dialogue among scientists from numerous fields who share expertise in the study of ultramafic habitats worldwide. The proceedings of the conference are being published as two Special Issues of Ecological Research, of which this is the second. In this article, we present the major topics and provide some highlights of the contributions to the 10th International Conference on Serpentine Ecology.

7th International Workshop on Software-intensive Business (IWSiB 2024): Software-intensive Business in the Era of Generative Artificial Intelligence

The 7th International Workshop on Software-intensive Business (IWSiB'24), held on April 16, 2024, in Lisbon, Portugal, as part of the 46th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2024), brought together diverse research communities to address the pressing challenges faced by software-producing organizations. These challenges, driven by changing demands, evolving technologies, and dynamic environments, require interdisciplinary collaboration across software engineering and business research. The workshop focused on the theme "Software Business in the Era of Generative Artificial Intelligence," highlighting the transformative impact of GenAI and large language models on software businesses. The event featured a keynote by Jan Bosch and showcased 11 accepted papers on a diverse range of topics. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, group activities, and ideation sessions aimed at identifying future challenges and solutions for software-intensive businesses, fostering ongoing community development and cross-disciplinary synergy.

Report on the 5th International Workshop on Engineering and Cybersecurity of Critical Systems and 2nd International Workshop on Software Vulnerability Management (EnCyCriS/SVM - 2024)

Increasing system interconnectivity, decentralization, and introduction of new, more intelligent technologies, result in critical infrastructures becoming exposed to increased risk of cyber, physical, and combine cyber-physical attacks. Cyber-attacks on critical systems can inflict severe consequences on to people, society, economy, and national security, and can have adverse effects on safety and reliability of critical infrastructures. The joint EnCyCriS-SVM workshop facilitates discourse and discussion among researchers, practitioner, and students who are working on challenges and solutions related to the industrial revolution. Focus is given on sharing industry experience and project results pertaining to cyber threats on critical systems; secure software engineering; and attack detection and response mechanisms.

Meeting report from the 3rd ISCBH-ERN BOND Achondroplasia Workshop on Long Bone Pathology in Children with Achondroplasia, Salzburg, Austria 22nd June 2024

A pre-meeting workshop on Long Bone Pathology in Children with Achondroplasia was held in Salzburg, Austria at the 11th International Conference on Children's Bone Health (ICCBH) 22–25 June 2024. There remains poor understanding and awareness amongst physicians managing achondroplasia of the underlying pathophysiology, radiology, natural history and orthopaedic procedures available for long bone deformities and restrictions. The structure of the workshop consisted of presentation of the results of a multinational patient survey on views of leg lengthening in achondroplasia, lectures, a debate and an interactive round table discussion. In total 150 attendees from 71 different cities and 31 countries were in attendance.

In May 2024, the Faculty of Communication at Üsküdar University hosted the 11th International Communication Symposium, which this year has been delineated on the overarching theme 'Digital Inequality and Data Colonialism’. Among the scholars and subject matter experts serving as keynote speakers during its proceedings, Prof. Dr. Nick Couldry along with Prof. Dr. Ulises A. Mejias- gave an insightful keynote speech entitled “Data Grab: The New Colonialism of Big Tech”, which focused on the subjects explored in the groundbreaking research recently published by the two scholars and entitled Data Grab: The New Colonialism of Big Tech and How to Fight Back. In this context, as founders of the concept of data colonialism, Couldry and Mejias discussed further implications of this concept and how Big Tech companies are nowadays grabbing users’ data, exploiting labour and connections for their profit. We interviewed Professor Nick Couldry on data colonialism and why it represents a radically different concept from those already existing in sociology and communication studies. Reimagining a nursing ecosystem in an uncertain world.

The discussion paper synthesises the insights shared during a keynote panel at the 26th International Philosophy of Nursing Conference, themed "Reimagining a nursing ecosystem in an uncertain world." It delves into the substantial impact uncertainty has on nursing, offering innovative strategies for reconceptualization. Through a critical examination of evidence-based practice, the tendency to homogenise nursing is discussed, prompting advocacy for a Nietzschean political framework as a form of resistance and emancipation. Drawing inspiration from Donna Haraway, a transition from individualistic to relational approaches is needed, especially amidst social and economic instability. Furthermore, the integration of caritas and Indigenous epistemologies underscore the significance of cultural sensitivity in nursing. Meanwhile, Ubuntu philosophy champions empathy and collective values, while a convergence of Eastern and Western philosophical traditions promises to enrich nursing practice. Ultimately, the panellists advocate for overcoming rigid ideologies in favour of a pluralistic approaches, ontologies, epistemologies and ethics to address contemporary challenges, and signal for a philosophical reorientation to engage uncertainty and reshape nursing roles in an ever-evolving and world.

A philosophical exploration of rural health and nursing based on an undergraduate United States-Australian collaboration through the lens of 'positionality'.

Growing nursing workforce maldistributions impede rural healthcare access globally. In-depth exploration of underlying philosophical ideas about rural health in nursing curricular could support recruitment and retention of nurses who are well positioned to support and advocated for health care and services relevant to their communities. Through a lens of positionality, the purpose of this paper is to explore rural health and nursing within the United States and Australia from the perspective of undergraduate students. Recognizing that both countries have 'first world' health services, issues of access to services associated with systemic and structural biases were significant features identified by participants. Their perceptions were supported by discussion with attendees of the 26th International Nursing Philosophy Conference from several countries, during a presentation titled 'What is different about rural health nursing: A philosophical exploration.'This international consistency suggests that systemic and structural biases are global phenomena. While exposure to rural health and rural nursing may be beneficial for recruitment, preparing nurses for rural practice requires more than educating students to complete clinical tasks. Uncovering collaboration, advocacy and policy development opportunities for nurses in rural communities could move the dial from recruiting rural nurses to fulfill immediate needs to retention of well-educated and highly skilled nurses. Building a stronger philosophical base for rural healthcare inclusive of all people, honouring their distinguishing characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity, is long overdue. Positionality can inform how nurses across the globe relate to other countries' governments, cultures, norms, values, expectations, etc., which can influence the advancement of the profession and address social inequities among rural populations.

Background To further enhance domestic and international cooperation and exchange, better understand research hotspots, stimulate scientific research vitality, and build a high-level academic exchange platform, Yangzhou University and Tsinghua University jointly hosted the 8th International Conference on Pumps and Fans (ICPF) in Yangzhou, China, from 12th to 15th April 2024. This conference traces its origins to the first International Conference on Pumps and Fans held at Tsinghua University in 1992, with subsequent conferences held at Tsinghua University in 1995, 1998, and 2002; at Zhejiang University in 2010; at Tsinghua University again in 2013; and at Zhejiang University again in 2015. Participation is encouraged from individuals involved in all facets of fluid machinery. International Conference on Hydrodynamics, Energy and Electric Power System (HEEPS) is an annually held conference, it aims to provide a forum for participants to exchange their experiences, share research results in all aspects about Hydrodynamics, Energy and Electric Power System and discuss the encountered practical challenges and the adopted solutions. The 2024 8th International Conference on Hydrodynamics, Energy and Electric Power System (HEEPS 2024) was held in Beijing, China from June 28th to 30th, 2024. This esteemed conference, as the eighth in its series, continues to serve as a premier platform for researchers, scholars, and industry professionals to converge, share insights, and collaborate on the latest advancements in hydrodynamics, water resources and hydropower engineering, energy systems, and electric power technologies. HEEPS 2024 was organized with the aim of fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and innovation within the rapidly evolving fields of fluid mechanics, energy systems, and power engineering. Building upon the success of the previous seven editions, this conference attracted a diverse and vibrant community of participants from around the world. The event was hosted with the support of esteemed institutions such as the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Universiti Putra Malaysia, further enhancing its international reach and impact. HEEPS 2024 was an outstanding three-day conference and a reference that attracted many remarkable keynote speakers, including: Professor Jizhong Zhu (South China University of Technology, China), Professor Ishak Bin Aris (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia), Professor Lin Chen (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China), Associate Professor Sohrab Mirsaeidi (Beijing Jiaotong University, China), as well as Assistant Professor Jianxiao Wang (Peking University, China). The program kicked off with a series of keynote lectures delivered by renowned experts in their respective fields, setting the tone for an intellectually stimulating conference. These presentations covered a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from fundamental research in hydrodynamics and fluid mechanics to the latest developments in energy systems and power grid technologies. Besides, during all parts of the conference, the attendees actively interacted with the speakers and each other on specific topics. The conference’s Proceedings of HEEPS 2024 contains the papers accepted and presented at this great conference. All these contributions were carefully reviewed by program committee members and took into consideration the breadth and depth of the research topics that fall into HEEPS scope.
