An analysis of physical planning perspective of the implications of traffic congestion in the central area of Osogbo

This study analyzes the physical planning perspective of the implication of traffic congestion in the central area of Osogbo to investigate the socio-economic lifestyle of commuters and Identify the implication of traffic congestion within the study area. The study annexed both primary and secondary sources for data collection. The study adopts a 3% sampling study out of the total traffic count of 19745 respondents that ply the road; this therefore amounted to 364 respondents from the 7 selected junctions in the area. The results of the finding show that the population growth, lack of road infrastructure and parking facilities are physical planning perspectives on the implication of traffic congestion in the study area. The result also shows that the socio-economic status of respondents influences the condition of traffic congestion. The study concludes and makes recommendations such as the need for public enlightenment / regular education of road users in the study area on the need to use traffic control devices, the need to decongest activities in the central area of Osogbo to reduce the number of travel to the area, construction of proper and consistent bus terminals which are not too far apart within the city, enforcing the use of alternate routes to minimize the number of traffic within the city centre during the peak hour of the day. The study recommends the provision of a parking plaza strategically within the area to curb the problem of on-street parking. Clean eco-friendly cooking energy as sustainable approach and mitigation to climate change: A case study of Ankole, Western Uganda

The study investigates how communities in the Ankole region, western Uganda are coping with a shortage of cooking fuels, climate change and what strategies they have set up to counteract its effects using innovative, sustainable, renewable and affordable technological methods. The objectives of the study are: 1) to investigate the type of cookstoves used in cooking that is being used in the area under study. 2) To suggest eco-friendly cook stoves that can be used for cooking to save the environment and reduce health hazards that are related to inhalation of smoke. It was carried out in the districts of Mbarara and Bushenyi which are diverse in their setting. The main objective was to investigate how traditional cooking fuels have become a health hazard to many mothers and children in Ankole, human activities and rural-urban migration, have caused hiking of prices for fuel for cooking; wetland drainage, bush clearing for farming, charcoal burning, brick making associated with social and economic developments have affected the environment. Traditional methods of cooking still dominate in Ankole, where three stones are still used. Charcoal has become a major fuel for cooking in many homes as an alternative to firewood, in addition to briquettes, biogas, LPG and volcanic rocks. A sustainable eco-friendly stove is proposed to mitigate environmental degradation. Participation of public-private partnership in housing provision in the core areas of Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria

Private-Public partnership (PPP) is a new paradigm in the development arena that involves collaborative working arrangements between the public, profit and non-profit private sectors in providing public services hitherto provided solely by the sector. This study carried out research on the impact of participation of Private-Public partnership (PPP) in housing provision in the core area of Akure with a view to suggesting effective measures to promote housing development and delivery in the study area. It examined the socio-economic characteristics of the residents, investigated the illegal dumpsites in the area, examined the system of waste disposal and management in the area, and identified the effect of illegal dumpsites on residents and the environment and possible measures to improve waste management in the area were suggested. Using simple random sampling techniques, Questionnaire was used to gather primary data from 181 respondents and an interview guild with the Director of works and housing in the Ministry of Works and Housing, Akure South Local Authority (Ondo State). Akure was interviewed on the operations of the public estate. It was gathered that the majority of the resident were female with at least a secondary school certification. The Public-Private housing schemes were not designed for the low-income class. Untarred roads, irregular electricity supply, and high cost of housing units amongst others were the challenges encountered by residents in the study areas. It was recommended that Community Based organization approach and Mortgage housing scheme should be introduced in the PPP housing schemes in the areas in order to achieve a maximum result in the housing provision business amongst others. Examinatıon of basketball players' team cohesion levels according to some variables

This study was applied to measure the team cohesion of basketball players playing in the Türkiye Basketball Leagues in terms of some variables. In the research, two different forms have been used. First of these forms, the personal data form is prepared by a researcher to collect data about the active basketball period of the participants, their league category, camping with the team at the start of the season, and the duration of their presence in the team. The second is the Moralı data form developed by Neil W. Widmeyer, Lawrence R. Brawley and Albert Carron (1985) The Measurement of Cohesion in Sports Team Inventory adapted to Türkiye by 1994. The research group consists of a total of 266 basketball players actively playing in the Türkiye Basketball Leagues. The scale and personal data form were applied to the basketball players who participated in the study with the online method using the purposeful sampling method. The data obtained as a result of the research were analyzed in the SPSS.22 program. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of the data, a t-test for independent groups was used in pairwise group comparisons, and a one-way analysis of variance ANOVA test was used to compare multiple groups. In addition, posthoc tests were used to know the way of the difference among groups. The significance level was taken as 0.05 in the interpretation of the results. The cohesion levels of the basketball players participating in the study were mostly at a better level. Keywords: Basketball, team cohesion, basketball players.

Social entrepreneurship and the nature of the impact achieved

Society's most pressing needs all over the world have raised concerns which are comprehensive, deep and quick. The development of any nation depends on its social and economic strength as well as the contributions of its citizens. Their contribution now has an important place, but is only relatively recently that this contribution has been recognized by writers outside mainstream economic thinking. As attention has become more focused on the importance of entrepreneurship for economic security and the creation of employment opportunities, greater attention has been directed at the social enterprise sector. Thus, the new innovative culture has additionally spread to the social area. Progressively higher expectations are being set on social entrepreneurship in ameliorating social issues facing the world at large. Social entrepreneurship is a concept that covers the individual motivation and leadership behind the pursuit of social objectives. This can be best represented as the activity of pursuing social objectives through entrepreneurship. Accordingly, social business ventures can include a somewhat expansive scope of associations and organizations which acquire assets to implement social objectives. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of social entrepreneurship in addressing social issues facing the world. It will explain the importance of social entrepreneurship, its concepts, social issues as well as impacts of social entrepreneurship. Effects of population growth on housing demands in Ondo State, Nigeria

One of the fundamental effects of population growth affecting millions of Nigerians is the high demand for housing from which residents of Ijomu and Isolo communities along Oba Adesida road, Akure South are not exempted. This study assesses the effects of population growth on housing demand in Akure South. Two communities chosen randomly are Ijomu and Isolo. There are three hundred and twenty-six (326) buildings in Isolo and five hundred and fifteen (515) in Ijomu respectively making eight hundred and forty-one (841) residential buildings in the two residential neighbourhoods representing the research population. Using a systematic random sampling technique, questionnaires were administered to a householder in the 10th building at the interval in the selected residential area thus, giving a sample size of 33 buildings in Isolo and 52 buildings in Ijomu making eighty-five (85) respondents. Data is analyzed using simple descriptive statistics such as frequency counts and percentages. The study reveals that income, household size, occupation, education, housing finance and family expenses have a significant influence on housing demand and population growth in the study area. The government’s inability to tackle these factors appropriately manner has made many people unable to live in convenient and affordable apartments. Recommendations were suggested for a progressive way in ensuring that housing in the study area is improved such as the introduction of economic revitalization, government intervention in road construction, and provision of public facilities e.g waste collection, disposal system, and potable water, amongst others.
