Abstract

Studies have been started to obtain knowledge of the composition of spider communities in Berlin. An interesting part of the remaining natural habitats in the town is, the Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde. There are areas staying more or less undisturbed for years. In the present paper preliminary data are introduced on the spiders of typical habitats on the fields of the Tierpark. The main habitats are — a dry and sandy plain sparsely covered by Corynephorus canescens. In places grow Oenothera biennis and Echium vulgare; — an elevated area (as compared to the forementioned plain) tightly covered by Solidago gigantea, Tanacetum vulgare, and Artemisia vulgaris, in the northern part mingled with grassland; — a mesophilic grove. The animals have been caught by continuous pitfall trapping from the beginning of May 1984 to the end of May 1985, complemented by manual collecting. 1998 spiders belonging to 83 species are listed. A number of the species are estimated with respect to habitat selection and/or phenology. That refers to Dysdera erythrina WALCKENAER, Harpactea rubicunda (C. L. KOCH), Zelotes pusillus (C. L. KOCH), Alopecosa cuneata (CLERCK), Alopecosa puherulenta (CLERCK), Pardosa agrestis (WESTRING), Pardosa palustris (LINNAEUS), Tapinocyba biscissa (O. P.-CAMBRIDGE), and Lepthyphantes insignis (O. P.-CAMBRIDGE). Zodarion rubidum SIMON and Zelotes aeneus (SIMON), two rarely recorded species, deserve interest because of disjunction.
