Abstract

Abstract A description is provided for Zoophthora phalloides . Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: Aphids (Homoptera: Aphididae), many species, but in France, where most records have been made, particularly Myzus ascalonicus and Tubaphis ranunculinus . GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Probably worldwide. Recorded from Europe (including U.K.), Asia, N. America, Australasia. DISEASE: This fungus, like all the Entomophthorales, invades its host by the penetration of the cuticle by the germ tube from an adherent conidium. In France this species appears to be inhibited by temperatures above 20°C and occurs most frequently in early spring.
