Abstract

We extend the zonal cooperative inversion (ZCI) approach based on fuzzy c-means cluster analysis and conventional single-input data set inversion algorithms for the cooperative inversion of data sets with partially co-located model areas. This is done by considering recent modifications made to the fuzzy c-means cluster algorithm. We apply the extended ZCI to cooperatively invert two crosshole tomographic traveltime data sets with partly co-located model areas. Additionally, we demonstrate how additional a priori information can be incorporated in the ZCI methodology. The ZCI results in a single geophysical model outlining the major subsurface zonation. Available ground-truth data support our zonal geophysical model and, thus, prove the applicability of the proposed inversion approach.
