Abstract

Stereotypes and prejudices about certain groups in society lead to prejudice-motivated violence, hate speech, and discrimination. To punish crimes that occur because the victim belongs to a certain ethnic group, because of one's sex, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation or some other protected characteristic that a person enjoys, the law is used today. For this reason, the authors analyze the criminal legal provisions that regulate the institute of hate crimes in North Macedonia, as well as the practice of the police and criminal justice authorities when it comes to recording these cases in order to indicate possible directions for improving activities in the field of recognizing, recording and processing hate crimes.
