Abstract

Celiac disease is an IgA-mediated intolerance to the gliadin fraction of wheat gluten protein. Grains that contain gluten include wheat, rye, barley, and emmer. About 1% of the worldʼs population is affected by celiac disease. Patients can present with both gastrointestinal and extraintestinal manifestations of the disease. A total of 57 celiac patients from our hospital participated in a questionnaire study, which was dedicated to the topics of symptomatology, diagnosis, and quality of life. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and will be used to generate hypotheses for further studies.
